| 4 hidden Google Maps tricks you should know now - CNET Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:14 PM PST ![]() Driving is stressful enough, but it becomes even more of a task when you can't find a parking spot or you lose signal and a turn is coming up soon. Fortunately, the Google Maps app for Android and iPhone ($699 at Amazon) can remove a bit of the strain of driving with some of its hidden features. You probably know that with the Google Maps app, you can save addresses -- such as work and home -- so with a tap you can get directions to the places you frequently travel to. You can also get information about a place -- including what to eat, where to say and what to do -- to help you make the most of a trip. But Google Maps can help with other tasks you may not know about, such as letting you download a map to use offline, include stops to your driving time to get a more accurate destination time and even help you find somewhere to park. Read on to learn how to use these features so your trip will be super smooth. Use Maps offlineIt never fails -- when you need directions the most, your phone loses signal at the most inopportune time. Fortunately, Google Maps lets you download your route ahead of time so that you never have to worry about getting lost. 1. In the Google Maps app, enter your destination. 2. At the bottom of the screen tap the name of the place or the address. 3. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner. 4. Tap Download offline map. 5. Tap Download. The map for the area you've selected will now be available to you offline. Plan the route of your entire trip, including stopsIf Google says your trip will take seven hours but it ends up being eight, it may be because you didn't include your multiple stops along the way. Google Maps lets you add stops so you can get a more accurate destination time. 1. In the Google Maps app, enter your first destination, like a gas station or coffee shop. 2. Tap Directions. 3. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. 4. Tap Add stop. Add as many stops as you anticipate taking. 5. Press Done when you're finished adding stops. Now you'll get a more accurate ETA when planning trips. Easily find an area to park your carKnowing where you can and can't park your car is essential, especially if you're running late to work, going to a huge event like a concert or driving to an unfamiliar neighborhood. Instead of driving around and hoping you'll eventually find a parking spot, use Google Maps to point you in the right direction. 1. In the Google Maps app, enter your location. 2. Tap Directions. 3. You'll see a P icon next to the estimated time it'll take to get to that location. Tap the P (for parking). If P is red, it means parking will be limited. Blue means finding parking will be easy or medium challenging 4. Find parking. 5. A list of parking areas will appear. Select one of the options and tap Add parking. The parking spot will be added as the first stop on your route and you can continue on to your next destination. See what a place looks like before you goPictures can be deceiving, so before you book a hotel that looks nice, check it out on Google Maps first. 1. In the Google Maps app, search for a location, like a hotel you may stay at. 2. In the bottom left corner, you'll notice a small box with a photo of the building. This is the street view of the area, so tap it to see what it looks like. 3. You can zoom in and out and check out the area by swiping your finger across the screen. Want more Google Maps tips? | Adam Eaton chugs beer through shirt to celebrate Caps' goal - NBCSports.com Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:50 PM PST ![]() Quick LinksThe Nationals continued their World Series victory tour at the Capitals' game on Sunday night — and brought back some important traditions. Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton had an especially good time, as he chugged a beer through his shirt after the Caps tied the game against the Calgary Flames. The whole team went wild, a true display of Washington's teams supporting one another.
Chugging beer has become somewhat of a tradition between the two teams after T.J. Oshie set the trend at the Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup Finals parade. Eaton continued to go nuts after Jakub Vrana scored his third goal of the night, lifting the World Series trophy and throwing hat after hat onto the ice.
We're sure they'll keep the party going. MORE NATIONALS NEWS: Quick LinksThe legend of Bud Light guy continues. One of the most exciting storylines from this year's World Series — besides, ya know, the Washington Nationals winning the whole darn thing — has been the formation of the newest American hero. Jeff Adams, the fan who took a World Series home run to the chest while double-fisting Bud Lights, continues to become more and more of a national icon. After getting his own bus for the Nationals' World Series parade, Adams made an appearance at the Washington Capitals game and won the "slap shot challenge" during the second intermission. Of course, in the same epic style that he's risen to fame, Adams won the challenge at the last second and is walking away with free Bud Light at Caps home games as a result. The Capitals' game has been a lot of fun for everyone in Washington, but Adams joins the Nationals players in having just a little bit extra fun. Adam Eaton and his teammates have consumed plenty of their own Bud Light, celebrating their World Series victory in style. Just like the Nationals players, Bud Light guy is really living his best life. MORE NATIONALS NEWS: Quick LinksThis isn't going to go over well. The Nationals paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue in double-decker buses on Saturday in celebration of the franchise's first ever World Series title. But not even 24 hours later, those same buses were seen carrying riders in the NL East rival Phillies' hometown.
Philadelphia's last title came in 2008, and the team hasn't finished with a winning record since 2011. The presence of these buses on the streets of Philadelphia only serves as a painful reminder of what its division rival just accomplished. After failing to meet expectations and finishing eight games out of a playoff spot, perhaps the Phillies will use these buses as motivation for a better season in 2020. | India ready to boost Asean tie-up in areas of mutual interest: Modi - The Straits Times Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:14 PM PST ![]() Despite stiff domestic opposition against India's involvement in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yesterday that his country is ready to increase its partnership with Asean in areas of mutual interest. Addressing South-east Asian leaders at the Asean-India Summit, Mr Modi said: "Asean is at the very core of our Act East Policy, and will always be so. An integrated, cohesive and economically developing Asean serves India's core interests. "We are committed to improving our partnership, through better surface, maritime and air connectivity, and through digital links." His comments come at a time when Asean nations are hoping to conclude the 16-nation RCEP free trade pact at the 35th Asean Summit, with insiders saying that India is the sole holdout among the group. Despite speaking about engaging more with Asean, Mr Modi made no mention in his speech of the RCEP, which is poised to be the world's largest free trade pact. If concluded in its proposed form, the pact covers the 10 Asean nations, as well as China, India, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand - which altogether contribute one-third of the world's gross domestic product (GDP). Mr Modi said India's aim is to have "a great increase" in the mobility of people for studies, research, trade and tourism, and it stands ready to increase its partnership with Asean "in areas of mutual interest". He added that India is also ready to further increase collaboration with Asean through capacity building in areas such as agriculture, science, information and communications technology, and engineering. Mr Modi also welcomed the decision by Asean members in September to review the Asean-India Trade in Goods Agreement, which was signed in 2010. The review will look at simplifying the agreement and making it more user-friendly to facilitate trade between businesses. "This will help not only to further strengthen our economic relations, but our trade will also be more balanced," he said, adding that maritime security, humanitarian assistance, and the blue economy, which focuses on sustainable use of ocean resources, were other areas where partnerships could be strengthened. Speaking at the summit, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong invited India to further engage Asean in the areas of economic integration, regional security and sustainable development. He remarked that Asean and India have a total market of almost two billion people and more than US$5.5 trillion (S$7.5 trillion) in GDP, and the two could enhance economic opportunities through growing transport connectivity by swiftly concluding the Asean-India Air Transport Agreement and the Asean-India Maritime Transport Agreement. He also invited India to cooperate in new areas of regional security such as cyber security, noting that Singapore launched the Asean-Singapore Cybersecurity Centre for Excellence last month. "I look forward to partnering India to help strengthen the region's cyber capacity and resilience," he said. On sustainable development, PM Lee commended India's efforts in mitigating climate change through initiatives such as increasing its renewable energy capacity and launching the Jal Jeevan Mission for water conservation, rainwater harvesting and water resources development. "As a fellow maritime nation, Singapore fully shares India's desire also to strengthen maritime cooperation, including through enhancing maritime connectivity, marine environmental protection and the sustainable use of marine resources," he said. PM Lee added that Asean had made sustainable development its area of focus as well, with initiatives like the Asean Sustainable Urbanisation Strategy and the Asean Smart Cities Network (ASCN). "We welcome India's participation in the ASCN and look forward to exchanging views with India on these issues and more," he said. | Donald Trump absent, ASEAN charts path for trade bloc led by China - Hindustan Times Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:54 PM PST ![]() Leaders from fast-growing Southeast Asian economies, China and other regional powers vowed Sunday to transcend conflicts over trade policies and territorial disputes for the sake of stronger economies and regional stability. President Donald Trump skipped the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and instead sent his national security adviser, Robert O'Brien. Last year, Trump sent Vice President Mike Pence. Both now are busy campaigning back home, and analysts say their absence will leave room for China to further raise its profile and clout in the region. The ASEAN meeting's host, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, said the group aims to reach a basic agreement on plans for what may become one of the world's biggest trade blocs. The proposed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership aims to level trade barriers between the 10 ASEAN members and six other countries in a bloc encompassing nearly a third of all global trade. Prayuth and other officials said the aim was to have a final deal by next year. ASEAN also hopes to set a code of conduct with China regarding disputed waters in the South China Sea, he said. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang told other leaders attending that Beijing was committed to forging such an agreement and to ASEAN's central role in the region. "Given the complexity in the international and regional situation, our cooperation is built on a stable structure and moving forward in a positive fashion," Li said. "This is beneficial to the region and all parties involved." "We support stability in the region and by doing so we have been able to cope with the instability elsewhere in the world," he said. On the troublesome issue of the South China Sea, Li welcomed progress on negotiating a code of conduct aimed at taming aggressive actions that could set off armed confrontations in one of the world's most disputed regions. After being accused of delaying the start of talks for years while building artificial islands with military outposts on contested reefs, China agreed to commence negotiations and both sides announced that the first of three expected rounds was concluded in July. Li called that progress "a very important landmark" for regional stability. He said China is committed to making headway in the negotiations with ASEAN members, four of whom — Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam — are locked in the territorial disputes. But the talks are highly contentious and it's unclear if China is ready to sign a code that many governments, including the US, hope would be legally binding and potent enough to restrain provocative actions in a busy waterway crucial to global commerce. Two Southeast Asian diplomats told The Associated Press that in a tense meeting in Vietnam recently, Vietnamese diplomats questioned how the negotiations could progress while flotillas of Chinese fishing boats backed by China's coast guard and navy were swarming into waters where Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia have exclusive rights under international law to exploit energy resources. Chinese officials replied that ASEAN members should not allow one state "to hijack the COC process," one of the diplomats said, referring to the code of conduct talks. The two diplomats spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because of a lack of authority to discuss the issue publicly. "China's continued harassment of Malaysia, Filipino and Vietnamese activities over the last year shows that it isn't yet prepared to compromise in any substantive way. So these talks always seemed to be heading for trouble," said Greg Poling, a South China Sea expert with the US-based Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative. The meetings Sunday also touched on other challenges. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged the leaders to wean themselves from reliance on coal-fired power plants whose emissions contribute to climate change that is felt keenly in the region in the form of extreme weather disasters and rising sea levels. Guterres nudged Myanmar to do more to help resettle hundreds of thousands of members of its Muslim Rohingya minority who have fled violence in the country's northwest. "Some positive steps have been taken, but much more needs to be done to forge durable solutions and ensure effective accountability," he said. Asked by reporters about the recent deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants who died in a shipping container while being smuggled into Britain, Guterres urged that more be done to fight human trafficking by organizing migration rather than leaving it to organized crime. "Migration is inevitable," he said. "If migration is inevitable, then it's better to organize it." On the issue of trade, ASEAN officials plan to present to the leaders a report on negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. A draft of a statement by the leaders on the RCEP seen by The Associated Press says talks should be finalized by February and endorsed by leaders of member countries at next year's summit, which is due to take place in Vietnam. "We are committed to sign the RCEP agreement in Vietnam in 2020," the leaders' draft statement said. ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Together, they comprise a fast-growing regional market of nearly 650 million people. The proposed RCEP trade bloc aims to facilitate and set standards for trade among ASEAN and six other nations: China, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. It does not include the United States.

| South African Motupa gives Bidvest Wits a four-goal gift - Yahoo Sports Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:01 PM PST ![]() Bidvest Wits forward Gift Motupa scored for South Africa at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games (AFP Photo/Miguel SCHINCARIOL) Johannesburg (AFP) - Gift Motupa scored four goals for South African club Bidvest Wits Sunday, while Nigerian sides Enyimba and Enugu Rangers made contrasting progress in CAF Confederation Cup play-offs. Former South Africa forward Motupa netted the first four goals as Wits crushed UD Songo of Mozambique 6-0 in Johannesburg after taking a 2-1 lead into the second leg. Zimbabwean Terrence Dzvukamanja also scored as Wits achieved the biggest winning margin of the 15 ties with another to be completed Tuesday ahead of a November 10 group draw in Cairo. It was the first time in seven attempts that Wits have qualified for the mini-league phase of a competition modelled on the UEFA Europa League. Enyimba had a comfortable passage and Enugu a nervous one as both continued campaigns to become the first Nigerian winners of the Confederation Cup. Having built a 2-0 advantage at home to South African second division side TS Galaxy, Enyimba doubled their aggregate advantage through goals from Daniel Darkwah and Martins Usule. Galaxy finished 2-1 second leg losers in northeastern city Nelspruit when Terrence Mashego grabbed a consolation goal one minute from time. - Most successful Nigerian club - Enyimba are the most successful Nigerian club in CAF competitions, winning the Champions League and Super Cup twice in a row between 2003 and 2005. None of the current Enugu team were born when the club won their only CAF silverware, the now defunct African Cup Winners Cup 42 years ago. Rangers scraped into the group stage on away goals after edging Togolese visitors ASC Kara 1-0 through a Chinonso Eziekwe goal on 17 minutes that tied the aggregate score at 2-2. Enugu also battled to overcome Pelican of Gabon in the previous round and need to improve if they hope to succeed Zamalek of Egypt as Confederation Cup trophy-holders. Twice African champions Asante Kotoko, the lone Ghana challengers, bowed out after losing 2-0 in Abidjan to San Pedro of the Ivory Coast, who trailed 1-0 from the first leg. San Pedro made the perfect start with Cheick Soumare scoring in the first minute and Tidjae Diomande netted four minutes from time to win the west African showdown. Ghana, who rank among the African football powerhouses, have not won a CAF club competition since Hearts of Oak lifted the Super Cup 18 years ago. There will be seven clubs from the west of Africa, six from the north, two from the south and one from the centre in the group draw, but none from the east All seven clubs from the east, the weakest football region in the continent, were eliminated with the failure of Ugandan outfit Proline the biggest shock. Holding Al Nasr of Libya 2-2 away seemingly set up the CAF debutants for an overall win, but they flopped in Kampala and lost 2-0 with Khalid Almaryami and Albedwi Osama scoring. | Beijing committed to Asean centrality in regional ties - The Straits Times Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:24 PM PST ![]() China will stay firmly committed to supporting Asean centrality in East Asian cooperation, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang told regional leaders yesterday. He noted that the international and regional situation is complex and changing. Given this context, cooperation between Asean and China is "built on a stable structure and moving forward in a positive fashion", Mr Li said. "We have strengthened political mutual trust. We both support stability in the region," he told leaders at the Asean-China Summit in Thailand. "And by doing so, we have been able to cope with the instability in other parts of the world." Mr Li also highlighted progress made on drawing up a code of conduct for the South China Sea, which has been the subject of competing territorial claims. The first reading of the Single Draft Negotiating Text for the Code of Conduct (COC) was completed earlier this year - a "very important landmark" for countries involved, he added. "We stand ready to work with Asean countries, building on the existing foundation and basis, to strive for new progress in the COC, according to the three-year timeframe, so as to maintain and uphold long-term peace in the South China Sea," Mr Li said. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also spoke at the summit, welcomed the latest developments on the COC. He urged negotiators to continue making progress "in the spirit of collaboration and good faith in subsequent readings, as we deal with the more complex and difficult issues". Singapore will work towards establishing a code of conduct that is in accordance with international law, he added. The Prime Minister also welcomed China's proposal to conclude the COC in three years. "But it is even more important to get the outcomes right, and to have an effective and substantive COC," he said. PM Lee added that there is still room for further economic cooperation between Asean and China, especially given the global economic slowdown. China has been Asean's largest trading partner for the past 10 years, while Asean is now China's second-largest trading partner. Among other things, he said it is imperative that the Asean-China Free Trade Area Upgrade Protocol be fully implemented. He added that both parties can also strengthen connectivity through efforts such as working towards fully liberalising the Asean-China Air Transport Agreement. At the summit, leaders adopted statements to synergise the Master Plan on Asean Connectivity 2025 with China's Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen media cooperation, as well as to cooperate on smart city projects. | Foreign money into Singapore has been up 'quite sharply' in recent months, JP Morgan says - CNBC Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:24 PM PST ![]() J.P. Morgan says foreign exchange deposits into Singapore's banks have ramped up "quite sharply" in recent months. It comes amid growing unrest in Hong Kong which has reportedly driven investors and companies to move their money elsewhere. Singapore has been said to be a direct beneficiary of the unrest in Hong Kong, with some bankers and wealth managers saying they have received more queries from clients to move funds to Singapore. In the latest estimate, Goldman Sachs said in October that Hong Kong might have lost as much as $4 billion in deposits to Singapore, often seen as its rival for the role of Asia's premier financial hub. Months of protests in Hong Kong are showing no signs of a let-up. What started out as peaceful demonstrations over a now-withdrawn extradition bill have morphed into a wider call for democracy. "We can't be conclusive that there is a shift from Hong Kong to Singapore," J.P. Morgan's Harsh Modi, co-head of Asia ex-Japan for financials research, said Friday when asked if he's seen deposits flow from the Chinese-ruled territory to Singapore. The financial district in Singapore. ullstein bild | Getty Images "But yes, Singapore banking system — FX deposits have been going up quite sharply in the last two, three months," he told CNBC. "It is fair to expect that there is a shift in asset flows from the financial sector," he added. Where to put your moneyThe demonstrations in Hong Kong — which draw the largest crowds on weekends — have become increasingly violent and taken a toll on businesses from retailers and airlines, to property companies, among other industries. Tourist arrivals have plunged, while hotel occupancy rates have slumped. According to preliminary data on Thursday, Hong Kong slipped into recession for the first time in 10 years in the third quarter. But the real question is whether investors consider Singapore, or Hong Kong, to be the global hub to park their money, Modi pointed out. "Ultimately what we're apparently thinking about is which financial center in Asia is truly the international abode for capital. Is it Hong Kong, is it Singapore?" he asked. "My sense is ... if you talk to a lot of people ... it looks like it is more Singapore. The flow from what we see right now appears to be more in favor of Singapore," Modi said. Singapore banks' exposure to Hong KongMeanwhile, one key risk for Singapore lenders would be their exposure to Hong Kong, Modi told CNBC. "Our biggest concern in Singapore banks is Hong Kong asset quality business," he said, referring to credit risk most likely associated with any bad loans to Hong Kong entities. Of the three biggest Singapore lenders, Modi says he's more positive on the United Overseas Bank, which has the least exposure to Hong Kong. DBS Bank and OCBC Bank have a retail presence in Hong Kong, but UOB does not, he pointed out. UOB posted third quarter results on Friday that saw its non-performing loans ratio at 1.5% — unchanged from the second quarter. That compares with 1.6% in the same period a year ago. DBS and OCBC are set to announce third-quarter earnings later this month. | Touche's goal not enough as Penn men's soccer draws with Brown in overtime - The Daily Pennsylvanian Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:20 PM PST ![]() Another overtime game, but a different outcome. After a run of two consecutive overtime 1-0 wins, one at Drexel and another against No. 24 Yale, Penn men's soccer could only manage a 1-1 draw at Brown. Riding the support of its home crowd, Brown (3-8-3, 1-1-2) looked lively right from the start, pressing and closing down on Penn in possession. As a result, the Quakers (6-5-2, 2-1-1) found it tough to string passes together. Even though the Bears had the bulk of possession to start, Brown struggled to create decent opportunities. The Bears came close on a corner that was whipped in by forward Matthew Chow toward defender Jackson Goebel, but Penn sophomore goalie Dane Jacomen was able to get a slight touch on the ball to keep proceedings scoreless. As the game moved on, the Red and Blue began to take charge of the game. Passes from the back were able to find their targets on the wing, but the final pass of the buildup was lacking in precision. ![]() With the first half nearing a close, a Brown foul near the penalty box gifted Penn with a free kick from a decent position, but captain Brandon Bartel's pass was claimed comfortably by Brown keeper Max Waldau. After the restart, the Bears looked to move the ball with more urgency, winning several free kicks in advanced areas, one of which led to a corner for the Bears in the 50th minute. This time, Chow decided to take matters into his own hands. Curling the corner over the outstretched hands of Jacomen and into the far corner of the net, he tallied his third score of the season. In response, the Quakers ramped up their offensive intensity, with junior midfielder Joey Bhangdia and freshman defender Kai Lammers leading the charge down the left flank. Shortly after, a low cross by Lammers found wide-open junior Jake Kohlbrenner, but the forward was unable to finish. In the 64th minute, Bhangdia found Kohlbrenner once again in the box. Brown defender Matt Rytel fouled Kohlbrenner, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Bartel, who scored the game winner from the spot against Yale a week ago, saw his effort down the middle saved by Waldau. After some confusion in the box, the ball fell to junior defender Alex Touche, whose left-footed shot gave the Quakers the equalizer. That goal set up a thrilling, up-and-down final 20 minutes, during which both teams looked to score the winning goal. ![]() Brown tried to carve out more chances from corners, but Jacomen was rarely troubled, as the Bears only managed two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes. In comparison, six of Penn's 11 shots were on target. With nothing to separate both teams, the game went to overtime. The overtime periods brought more chances on net for both teams, although Penn probably had the best of the bunch. Inside the final minute, some intricate passing by the Quakers set up a chance for sophomore midfielder Isaac McGinnis just inside the box, but he could not convert on what was the final chance of the game for either sides. "I think we created some really good chances towards the end of the game in overtime and were unlucky not to be able to get a goal from one of them," said Touche, whose goal was his second of the season. Overall, the Red and Blue might feel like they deserved more from the game, but they were kept at bay by the heroics of Brown's Waldau, who mustered seven saves. The Quakers, who have played three consecutive overtime matches, have two games remaining and still have a narrow path to the Ivy title. Penn would need wins over Princeton and Harvard and at least one loss from both Yale and Dartmouth to claim that honor. | Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:19 PM PST ![]() Adèle Haenel, the multi-award-winning French actress whose recent credits include Cannes hits Portrait Of A Lady On Fire and Deerskin, has publicly accused French director Christophe Ruggia of sexually harassing her from the age of 12. In an extensive report published by Paris-based investigative journal Mediapart, the actress claims Ruggia began harassing her after she was cast in his 2002 drama The Devils. Haenel says that advances took place on numerous occasions and continued until she was 15. In the report, the actress says she will not pursue legal action as she believes "justice ignores" victims in her situation In response to the piece, Ruggia sent the French website a statement via his lawyers saying that he "categorically refutes" any misconduct. The statement says that the pair had a "professional and affectionate relationship" and calls the reporting "slanderous." Haenel claims that the incidents took place between 2001 and 2004, when she was aged 12-15 and the director was 36-39. She describes the director's conduct during the filming and subsequent release of The Devils, her film debut, as "permanent sexual harassment", including "touching [on the] thighs and torso", and "forced kisses on the neck." Incidents took place at the director's flat and while travelling to film festivals, she claims. In the report, the actress says that she has come forward now after being inspired by HBO's Michael Jackson doc Leaving Neverland. She says that, by coming forward, she is looking to "denounce the system of silence and complicity that makes this [conduct] possible". The Mediapart investigation took place over six months and interviewed more than 30 people connected to Haenel and Ruggia, including Portrait Of A Lady On Fire director Celine Sciamma and producer Bertrand Faivre, who produced Ruggia's 2011 drama In Turmoil but says in the piece he will no longer work with the director after learning of the investigation. The report states it also obtained documents that corroborate the actresses' accusations, including love letters sent to her by the director. Ruggia used to be the co-chair of France's Society Of Film Directors (SRF), alongside Sciamma. Now 30 years old, Haenel is a six-time César Award nominee and a two-time winner, for Love At First Fight in 2015 and Suzanne in 2014. In the article, she says that her coming forward is "not to burn Christophe Ruggia…[but] to put the world back in the right direction… [and] that this exploitation of children, of women cease". Deadline has contacted Ruggia's reps for further comment. | Thailand says new Asian trade deal to be signed in 2020 - Reuters Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:04 PM PST BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand said on Sunday that Southeast Asian nations are committed to signing a pact by February 2020 on forging what could become the world's largest trade bloc, even after new demands by India dealt a blow to the process backed by China. Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha addresses the Opening Ceremony of the 35th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand November 3, 2019. REUTERS/Athit Perawongmetha Going into this weekend's summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Bangkok there had been hopes of finalizing negotiations this year on the 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). But the ASEAN chairman's final statement released on Sunday night said the 10-nation grouping welcomed a "commitment to sign the RCEP Agreement in 2020". "This will significantly contribute to an open, inclusive and rules-based international trading system and expansion of value chains." New impetus to reach agreement has come from the U.S.-China trade war, which has helped knock regional economic growth to its lowest in five years. "The early conclusion of RCEP negotiations will lay the foundation for East Asia's economic integration," said a statement from China's foreign ministry after Premier Li Keqiang met Southeast Asian leaders. But Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not even mention the RCEP talks in opening remarks at a meeting with Southeast Asian leaders and instead spoke only of reviewing the existing trade agreement between ASEAN and India. Nor did Modi mention the trade bloc, whose 16 countries would account for a third of global gross domestic product and nearly half the world's population, in Twitter posts after meeting Thai and Indonesian leaders. An Indian foreign ministry official later told a media briefing "Let's take all the RCEP questions tomorrow." Southeast Asian countries had hoped at least a provisional agreement could be announced on Monday. But India has been worried about a potential flood of Chinese imports. A person with knowledge of New Delhi's negotiations said new demands were made last week "which are difficult to meet." TRADE WAR IMPACTNegotiators were meeting into the evening on Sunday to try to come to an agreement, Thai government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat told reporters on Sunday. "We don't have a conclusion yet. Once there is one, it would be announced," she said. "Commerce ministers are still discussing outstanding issues. The signing is expected around February next year." Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told the formal opening of the ASEAN summit on Sunday that the 16 nations in the potential trade bloc ought to come to agreement this year to stimulate economic growth, trade and investment. He highlighted the risks of "trade frictions" and "geo strategic competition" in the region. Some countries have raised the possibility of moving ahead without India on forming a bloc that also included Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. But Thai commerce minister Jurin Laksanawisit told Reuters on Sunday that India had not pulled out. Another advantage for Southeast Asian countries from having relative heavyweight India in the trade pact would be less domination by China. Longstanding rivals China and India, which fought a border war in 1962, have clashed verbally in recent days over India's decision to formally revoke the constitutional autonomy of the disputed Muslim majority state of Kashmir. The U.S. decision to send a lower level delegation to the summits this year has raised regional concerns that it can no longer be relied on as a counterweight to China's increasing regional might. Instead of President Donald Trump or Vice President Mike Pence, the United States will be represented by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and White House national security adviser Robert O'Brien. The Thai spokeswoman said a planned U.S.-ASEAN leaders meeting would instead be represented by only three leaders from the 10-nation bloc meeting with the U.S. delegation. | Horror injury to Andre Gomes overshadows Spurs draw at Everton - CNN International Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:54 PM PST Tottenham's Son Heung-min was sent off for his foul on Gomes which saw the midfielder's right ankle buckle under him before he collided with Serge Aurier. It was immediately clear that the injury was serious with South Korean star Son visibly upset even before he was belatedly shown the red card by referee Martin Atkinson. Aurier, who would have had a full view of the extent of the injury, was seen appearing to pray while other players could barely bring themselves to view what had happened. After receiving urgent medical treatment, with players from both sides comforting former Barcelona player Gomes as he lay on the field, he was stretchered off and taken to hospital. Tottenham led 1-0 before the incident with Dele Alli scoring for the visitor just after the hour mark after Alex Iwobi's mistake led to Son feeding him the pass to score. With Son sent off, Everton pressed for an equalizer in the 12 minutes of added time and it duly arrived when substitute Cenk Tosun headed home from Luca Digne's cross. But all thoughts were with Gomes at the final whistle, with under pressure Everton manager Marco Silva summing up those feelings. "It's more than a football game, it's the most important thing right now and give all our support to him and to his family as well," he said. "We as a group and the players we have to keep the spirit we showed after that moment," he added. Son 'distraught'Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said Son was not to blame for the serious injury sustained by Gomes. "Sonny was devastated. In that moment it was very confused, difficult to keep calm, you watch the reaction on TV -- it was never the intention and never a tackle to do what happened after," he said. But he did disagree with the decision to send off the striker, who had to lead the Tottenham attack in the absence of the ill Harry Kane. "It was very bad luck for Andre, bad luck for Everton, but to finish with a red card for Sonny was really unfair and the momentum of the game changed," added the Argentine. Everton later confirmed that Gomes had suffered a broken ankle in the incident. | Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:34 PM PST Chris Kamara believes VAR cheated to deny Roberto Firmino a goal in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday. Firmino thought he had cancelled out Trezeguet's shock opener after turning home a Sadio Mane cross in the 28th minute. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR, who adjudged the Brazilian's armpit to be offside. A statement from the Premier League explained: "Liverpool's Roberto Firmino was flagged offside before putting the ball in the net against Aston Villa and the decision was confirmed by VAR. "The red line signifies Firmino and was aligned to his armpit, which was marginally ahead of the last Villa defender #AVLLIV." Liverpool were able to come from behind to beat Villa thanks to late goals from Andy Robertson and Mane. However, Sky Sports pundit Kamara was still unhappy with VAR's decision to rule out Firmino's goal. He told Goals on Sunday: "I'm not happy with it, I'll be 100 per cent honest with you. "In my opinion this is made up, this has been made up by somebody at Stockley Park who's decided they don't want this to be a goal, and that is my opinion, and that is my honest opinion. "From the naked eye you don't need that calibration of dots or whatever to tell you, look at Tyrone Mings' knee, Firmino is onside, right. "So you look at the yellow line and there's a black line there as well. So they've done that there – that tells you that he was onside. "So they change it round now to make it that Firmino is the black line and Tyrone Mings is the yellow line, as you can see now." | Should an employer act over a viral video? | HRM Asia - HRM Asia Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:33 PM PST Investment bank JP Morgan finds itself in the spotlight as footage of employee clashing with security guard goes viral in Singapore. ![]() When a member of staff is videoed being rude and abusive outside of work, what responsibility does the employer have to act? This is the dilemma facing investment bank JP Morgan after an employee was filmed clashing with a security guard over his condominium's parking rules for guests. It wasn't long before netizens uncovered the man's identity and his employer, and started petitioning for him to be sacked. An online petition garnered almost 27,000 signatures. In response to the video, JP Morgan sent a circular to its 3,000 employees in Singapore, reminding them to uphold a culture of respect. In the internal e-mail memo Edmund Lee, senior country officer of JP Morgan's Singapore offices, said: "Our people, services and commitment to integrity have made JP Morgan one of the most respected financial institutions in the world. We all have a shared responsibility for preserving and building on this strong reputation." However, Lee didn't refer to the the incident itself when he sent the circular. Other employers have come down harder on staff who have been the centre of viral videos and controversial social media postings. One infamous case was that of Anton Casey, a former employee of Crossinvest who 'parted ways' with the wealth management firm after making derogatory comments online about Singaporeans using public transport.
