Connor McDavid completely undresses Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly, scores insane goal - Sporting News Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:53 PM PST Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is something of a highlight-reel machine at this point, and he scored a goal to remember in his team's 6-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. MORE NHL: Five candidates to replace Peter Laviolette as Nashville Predators head coach It all happened while McDavid and the Oilers led 5-3 with roughly eight and a half minutes left to play at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. In a four-on-four situation, Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins forced a turnover just inside the defensive zone, allowing No. 97 to pick up the puck as it squirted back to center ice. Normally, fans — and opponents — might expect McDavid to turn on the jets and blast by the opposition's defense. But in his lone visit to Toronto this season, the Oilers star had something else in mind for poor, poor Leafs defender Morgan Rielly. McDavid paced up the ice slowly toward Rielly, the lone skater standing between him and Toronto goalie Michael Hutchinson, and started to cut toward the middle — until suddenly, he wasn't there at all. Rielly was caught flat-footed when McDavid pulled something like a juke move in football and turned on the jets only at the top of the faceoff circle on Hutchinson's glove side. With the Toronto alternate captain out of the way, McDavid carved back toward Hutchinson's blocker side with a backhand — only to pull back to his forehand with lightning-quick speed and shoot the puck just past the goalie's glove. "We just gave him way too much space," Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews told reporters after the game. "He's the most dangerous player in the world for a reason so if you just let him fly through the neutral zone with the speed and skill that he has, he's going to make us pay. That's what he did tonight." The goal was McDavid's fourth point of the night and brought his point total to 69 on the season. He now has two points on his Oilers linemate Leon Draisaitl — who scored a goal and recorded an assist on Monday — for the NHL's overall scoring lead. Cause of Viral Pneumonia Outbreak in China Unknown - The Scientist Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:09 PM PST Chinese health authorities are searching for the cause of an outbreak of viral pneumonia in Hubei province that began last month, Reuters reported yesterday (January 5). The respiratory illness, of which there are now 59 documented cases, doesn't seem to be caused by known pathogens such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus, or avian influenza viruses, health authorities said in a statement yesterday, leading to fears that a novel virus is infecting people in the area. "It sounds to me like it's something that's jumped from animals to humans, and it's in early stages," virus researcher Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina tells STAT. "And right now it's virus evolution versus public health control measures to try to prevent spread." The first cases of the mysterious illness, which comes with a fever and in some instances shortness of breath and lung infections, were reported in mid-December in Hubei's capital, Wuhan. The origin of the outbreak was soon traced to the city's wholesale Huanan Seafood Market—an early clue that the virus may have zoonotic origins, Guan Yi of the University of Hong Kong tells Science. The market has now been closed. Of the cases reported so far (several of which are in people who had traveled from Wuhan to Hong Kong), none show clear evidence of human-to-human transmission. More than 160 people who have had contact with the patients are also under medical observation in China, while Hong Kong has stepped up its health monitoring of travelers arriving by air or rail. The most recently reported case was a person who fell sick on December 29, according to the Chinese health authorities' statement on Sunday. A World Health Organization (WHO) statement published yesterday notes that "WHO is closely monitoring the situation and is in close contact with national authorities in China." Between U.S. and Iran, EU powers try mediation and pressure to ease crisis - Reuters.com Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:37 PM PST LONDON/PARIS/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Germany, Britain and France are scrambling to keep talks with Iran over its 2015 nuclear agreement alive despite Tehran having all but torn up the deal after the United States killed its top military commander. In its first formal response to the killing of Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike at Baghdad airport, Iran said on Sunday it would abandon limits on its enrichment of uranium, further breaching a central component of the deal it struck with six major powers. Since Iran did not say how far it would take enrichment while reaffirming cooperation with U.N. inspectors monitoring its nuclear activity, European Union officials found positive elements in the statement and the potential for de-escalation. At the same time, EU foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting in Brussels on Friday to discuss ways to save the deal via pressure if necessary, a step that could lead to the reimposition of U.N. sanctions on Tehran. "The deal is all but dead, but we will do everything to slow and limit the (nuclear) proliferation slope that has been taken and try to save what can be saved," a European diplomat said. A German Foreign Ministry spokesman said the deal struck between Iran and the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany was not yet dead and two-way communication was ongoing. "Our goal remains to save the agreement," the spokesman said. "We are in talks on that." As has been the case since President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the United States from the deal in 2018, Britain, France and Germany find themselves as mediators, trying to convince Iran to stick with the pact and the Americans that they are tough-minded allies who will not be deceived by Tehran. In a joint statement issued after Iran's announcement on enrichment, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said there was an "urgent need for de-escalation". "We specifically call on Iran to refrain from further violent action or proliferation, and urge Iran to reverse all measures inconsistent with the JCPOA," they said, referencing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the deal's formal name. In the wake of Soleimani's killing, which came in response to stepped-up attacks on U.S. assets by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, tensions in the region have risen to their highest level in more than a decade, making mediation more difficult. Compounding the frustration on the European side is the fact they were given no advanced warning of Trump's decision to kill Soleimani despite its potential to destabilize the region. Nuclear experts interpreted Iran's statement as leaving the door open to talks. They said it was positive that Tehran had not threatened to enrich uranium to a fissile purity of 20% - a critical threshold attained before 2015 that moved it much closer to the 90% concentration required for bomb material - and that IAEA inspections would continue. "This is softer than it could have been and leaves room for the possibility of negotiations," said Mark Fitzpatrick, an associate fellow and non-proliferation specialist at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. "It is ominous that Iran is declaring all limits off. We have to see what it actually does, however." CARROT AND STICKWhile European diplomats said the first priority was to halt further escalation toward armed conflict, they are concerned about the unpredictability of the Trump administration and aware that they have little to offer Iran to stick with the JCPOA. France in the past talked about providing Tehran with credit lines to ease the pressure of U.S. sanctions, and Britain, France and Germany created a payment mechanism for humanitarian and food trade, but it is not yet working a year on. Overall they have been unable to deliver on what Iran really wants for remaining in the deal - the end of sanctions and freedom to sell its oil. With Soleimani's death, the possibility of those steps looks even less likely. If forced to choose, the Europeans may have little option but to side with the Trump administration. In that vein, the joint German-British-French statement took a tough line with Iran over its "negative role" in the region and did not refer at all to the U.S. strike on Soleimani. That may satisfy Washington - but aggravate Tehran. "If you look at how the E3 have reacted, they are edging closer and closer to the Americans. I can't see them changing that path, but they also have to keep dialogue open with Iran. It's a question of timing," said a Western diplomat. As well as pushing to maintain talks, European officials are exploring what sticks they could use to corral Iran. The JCPOA includes a dispute resolution mechanism that if activated would ratchet up the pressure on the Islamic Republic, bringing closer the possibility of reimposing United Nations sanctions that were rescinded under the 2015 deal. Officials said such a step could be taken as early as this week, with EU foreign ministers set to discuss it on Friday. Yet it was unclear what reaction it might provoke from Iran, or whether the Trump administration would view it as sufficient. Reiss Nelson's Goal Lifts Arsenal Past Leeds United in 2020 FA Cup 3rd Round - Bleacher Report Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:23 PM PST Julian Finney/Getty Images Arsenal progressed to the fourth round of the 2020 FA Cup after narrowly beating Leeds United 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night. The Gunners weathered heavy pressure early on, before Reiss Nelson settled the tie 10 minutes into the second half against the leaders in the Championship. Arsenal now move on to face Bournemouth away later this month. Arsenal fielded a strong lineup, featuring Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe up top, but were overrun early on, with Leeds putting backup goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez through his paces. Winger Jack Harrison forced the Argentinian into a decent save, before striker Patrick Bamford rattled another shot off the bar. The Emirates FA Cup @EmiratesFACup Harrison easily had the beating of Gunners left-back Sead Kolasinac and ran the show during the opening stages. The winger dragged another effort wide with the chances mounting for Leeds. Arsenal had looked much-improved during a recent 2-0 win over Manchester United, but Mikel Arteta's team was being worked over at will by a side from a lower division. Goal @goal Part of the Gunners' problem was a lack of cohesion along a reshuffled back four. Rob Holding looked rusty on his return from a lengthy injury absence, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos appeared miscast as a right-back. Leeds kept the pressure on Arsenal's muddled defensive lineup. The away side also succeeded in keeping the Gunners' chief playmaker quiet: Match of the Day @BBCMOTD Things changed after the break, with Arteta's players taking starting positions higher up the pitch. A more intense press yielded greater possession, and Mesut Ozil began making it count. Lacazette cracked a free-kick off the bar then found space on the deck to draw Illan Meslier into a smart save. Those chances were an obvious sign the Gunners were quicker and more purposeful in attacking areas. The breakthrough came when Pepe wriggled free and played in Lacazette, whose deflected cross rolled into Nelson's path: The Emirates FA Cup @EmiratesFACup OptaJoe @OptaJoe Despite his goal, Nelson was soon subbed for returning striker Gabriel Martinelli. Pepe wasted little time teeing the Brazilian up, but his shot was deflected behind for a corner. Sokratis then glanced a header wide from the corner, before Meslier again denied Martinelli. The hosts were turning on the style, and another last-ditch block thwarted Kolasinac after the defender worked a neat one-two with a tireless Lacazette. In the meantime, Ozil, who been transformed in the second half, made way for Joe Willock. Pepe was also withdrawn in favour of another academy graduate, Bukayo Saka. The fresh legs, along with more considered use of the ball, helped Arsenal get over the line. Seeing out the result was vindication for first-time senior boss Arteta, who in just his fourth game in charge, proved he can motivate sluggish players and get a response. Meanwhile, a slick Leeds team was left to rue wasting almost total dominance during the first half. What's Next? Arsenal are away to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, while Leeds host Sheffield Wednesday in English Football's second tier later in the day. Influx Of Babies Hospitalized In Denver With Viral Complications - CBS Denver Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:09 PM PST DENVER (CBS4)- We've all heard the coughing and sneezing. Maybe you know someone who's gotten the flu or you've been sick yourself. Viruses spread quickly this time of year and infants are often hit the hardest. At one hospital in Denver, more and more babies are being admitted with viral complications. They have respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). In many cases, it caused a lung infection so serious in babies, like Andy Reynoso, that they need help breathing. "He looks much better today than he did on Wednesday and Thursday," said Kara Reynoso, Andy's mother. But little Andy from Kersey is still confined to a hospital bed and breathing with the help of a ventilator. He was airlifted to Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children (RMHC) on New Year's Eve. "It is the most horrifying thing I've ever been through," Kara told CBS4 Health Specialist Kathy Walsh. Andy is the youngest of eight children. "None of them have ever gotten this sick," Kara said. Kara thought her 16-month-old was struggling with a cold, but when she checked his oxygen level, it was way below normal. "He needed assistance and he needed it quickly," she said. Andy has pneumonia and RSV. The RSV caused bronchiolitis, inflammation and congestion in the small airways of his lungs. "Some kids don't tolerate RSV bronchiolitis as well as others," said Dr. Reginald Washington, Chief Medical Officer of Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center and RMHC. The number of babies hospitalized with bronchiolitis at RMHC in December was more than double what it was in November. "We anticipate it. We always make sure we're ready for this influx of patients because it happens every single year," said Washington. "They think that he will fully recover, but we've got to take it very slow," said Kara. She says it could be weeks before Andy is well enough to go home. It is tough to avoid all viruses, but the best ways to try to prevent getting sick include washing your hands frequently, sanitizing surfaces, avoiding sick people and staying home if you are sick. Indonesia mobilises fishermen in stand-off with China - The Straits Times Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:07 PM PST JAKARTA (REUTERS) - Indonesia will mobilise fishermen to join warships in the South China Sea to help defend against Chinese vessels, the government said on Monday (Jan 6), as the biggest stand-off with China for years escalated off South-east Asia's largest country. In an unusually strong statement, President Joko Widodo told reporters: "There is no negotiation when it comes to our sovereignty." The stand-off since last month in the northern Natuna islands, where a Chinese coastguard vessel has accompanied Chinese fishing vessels, has soured the generally friendly relationship between Jakarta and Beijing. Indonesia's chief security minister, Mr Mahfud M.D., told reporters that around 120 fishermen from the island of Java would be sent to the Natuna islands, some 1,000km to the north. "We want to mobilise our fishermen from the north coast and maybe in turn from other areas to operate by fishing there and other things," Mr Mahfud said. Indonesia, the world's fourth-most populous country, said last week it was sending more warships to the area. Six Indonesian ships were there now and four more were on the way, Mr Imam Hidayat, the head of the Maritime Security Agency's sea operations sub-directorate, told Reuters. China claims much of the South China Sea, a global trade route with rich fishing grounds and energy reserves, as its own based on what it says its historic activity. But South-east Asian countries - and the United States and much of the world - say such claims have no legal basis. Indonesian vessels often confront Chinese fishermen off the Natuna islands, but the presence of the Chinese coastguard vessel has marked an escalation this year over which Indonesia summoned the Chinese ambassador. Speaking in Beijing last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said China had sovereignty over the Spratly islands and their waters and that both China and Indonesia have "normal" fishing activities there. He did not specifically mention the Natuna islands, which are southwest of the Spratlys. Last year, China engaged in a prolonged maritime stand-off in Vietnam's extended economic zone and jangled nerves with its naval presence off the Philippines and Malaysia. The last peak in tensions between Indonesia and China over the South China Sea was in 2016, when a Chinese coastguard vessel rammed a Chinese fishing boat to free it after it had been intercepted for illegal fishing by Indonesian authorities. Britain’s ‘Most Prolific Rapist’ Is Jailed for Life - The New York Times Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:07 PM PST LONDON — A man convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting 48 young men in Manchester, and videotaping and cataloging the rapes, was sentenced on Monday to life in prison, closing a series of trials against a man whom prosecutors called "the most prolific rapist ever tried in a British court." The man, Reynhard Sinaga, 36, was found guilty of carrying out a two-and-a-half year campaign in which he approached scores of drunk young men outside Manchester clubs and lured them back to his nearby apartment under the guise of giving them a place to sleep or recharge their phones. Instead, he gave them drinks spiked with sedatives, prosecutors said, before poking their belly buttons to make sure they were unconscious and then raping them, sometimes for hours. Apart from victims noticing that they had particularly bad hangovers the next morning, Mr. Sinaga committed the rapes without anyone noticing until a June morning in 2017 when an 18-year-old man woke up in the middle of being assaulted. The man beat up Mr. Sinaga and escaped with his attacker's white iPhone. On Mr. Sinaga's digital devices, investigators said they eventually found huge volumes of photos and videos of his assaults, sometimes cataloged alongside pictures of a victim's ID card. In most cases, prosecutors said, the victims did not know exactly what had happened to them until getting a visit from the police. Investigators found evidence of Mr. Sinaga assaulting more than 190 victims in all, they said. Detectives have so far failed to identify 70 victims and are still looking to speak to them. On Monday, at the end of Mr. Sinaga's fourth trial, the courts lifted a media blackout that had previously kept his name from being publicly reported. Mr. Sinaga was already serving a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years before parole after being convicted in his earlier trials, which began in 2018. He was sentenced on Monday to life in prison and had his minimum term increased to 30 years. Mr. Sinaga insisted on taking the case to trial and argued in court that the victims were only pretending to be asleep as part of a sexual role play. He accused the victims of being closeted gay men lying about the assaults, according to British news accounts of the trial. Each of Mr. Sinaga's four trials dealt with between 10 and 13 victims. In all, he was found guilty of 159 offenses, including 136 anal rapes. "He would no doubt still be adding to his staggering tally had he not been caught," Ian Rushton, a deputy chief crown prosecutor for the northwest of England, said in a statement. He said Mr. Sinaga "appears to have derived further twisted pleasure from rewatching his films in court and putting victims through the trauma of giving evidence." Born and raised in Indonesia, Mr. Sinaga came to Britain in 2007 on a student visa. He studied for a master's degree at Manchester University in sociology, and then began studying for a doctorate in human geography in 2012 at Leeds University. Living off money given to him by his father, a banker in Indonesia, Mr. Sinaga fashioned a life of nights out and holidays that looked extravagant to his friends, according to British news accounts of trial testimony. He was openly gay, and he attended gay clubs in Manchester and used gay hookup apps, Mr. Sinaga testified. Mr. Sinaga's friends' only hint of his nighttime campaign was the way he boasted of making heterosexual men realize their gay fantasies. "He was straight in 2014," he texted one friend of a victim, prosecutors said. "2015 is his breakthrough to the gay world hahaha." In another text, he said, "Take a sip of my secret poison, I'll make you fall in love." But in secret, Mr. Sinaga collected the evidence that ultimately proved prosecutors' case against him. He kept some men's belongings as trophies, prosecutors said. He stored films of the assaults on two cellphones. He looked his victims up on Facebook afterward and tried to add them as friends. And some agreed. One was so oblivious about what had happened that he returned with his girlfriend to Mr. Sinaga's apartment the next day, trying to prove to her that he had only been recovering from a night out and not sleeping with another woman, British news reports said. For the most part, prosecutors said, Mr. Sinaga stuck to a consistent pattern in his attacks. After midnight, he lingered outside clubs, waiting for mainly heterosexual young men who had been separated from their friends or kicked out by bouncers. Preying on their various needs — their phone batteries had died, or they had run out of money for a taxi home, or they were sick from drinking — Mr. Sinaga convinced them to follow him home, where he said they could sleep on the floor or have a few more drinks. Once there, investigators believe Mr. Sinaga was probably drugging his victims with gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB, which is sometimes used recreationally as a club drug. At his hearing in Manchester Crown Court on Monday, Judge Suzanne Goddard said she had considered sentencing Mr. Sinaga to a life term without the possibility of parole — an unprecedented punishment for a crime other than murder — before settling on the 30-year minimum term, British news reports said. Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:37 PM PST A U.S. Army armored vehicle flies an American flag as it provides security escort for a convoy in this file photo from 2011. Joe Raedle | Getty Images The Pentagon on Monday said that a U.S. general's letter informing Iraq's Defense Ministry that U.S.-led coalition troops would leave Iraq "was a mistake," and American Defense officials insisted that the troops would remain there. "That letter is a draft, it was a mistake, it was unsigned, it should never have been released," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley told reporters hours after reports about the letter ostensibly written by Marine Brig. Gen. William Seely were published by the Reuters and AFP wire services. "Poorly worded, implies withdrawal," Milley said. "That is not what's happening," he continued. The general's comments came after the top U.S. Defense official appeared to be confused about the letter Monday. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper told reporters earlier, "We are repositioning forces throughout the region, No. 1." "Beyond that with regard to the letter, which I've read once, I can't tell you the veracity of that letter," Esper said. "That letter is inconsistent of where we are right now." "There has been no decision whatsoever to leave," he said. The letter to Iraq's Defense Ministry came to light a day after Iraq's parliament voted to expel all foreign forces from the country. Neither Esper nor Milley would clarify how the letter was made public, or who directed it to be drafted. Neither Seely nor Pentagon spokesmen responded to questions about the letter's origin. Drew Angerer | Getty Images Several news outlets reported they confirmed the letter's authenticity with unnamed Defense Department officials. But it was unclear late Monday afternoon who had authenticated it. According to the letter that appeared to be from Seely, the withdrawal was occurring "in due deference to the sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq, and as requested" by the nation's prime minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, and parliament. Iraq's parliament on Sunday passed a nonbinding resolution calling for the removal of American forces and other foreign troops on the heels of a U.S. airstrike last week at Baghdad's airport that killed Iran's leading general, Qasem Soleimani. There are upward of 6,000 U.S. troops in Iraq. In the letter, Seely wrote that coalition troops "will be repositioning forces over the course of the coming days and weeks to prepare for onward movement." "In order to conduct this task, Coalition Forces are required to take certain measures to ensure the movement out of Iraq is conducted in a safe and efficient manner," Seely wrote. Seely said that "there will be an increase in helicopter travel in and around Baghdad's international zone, and that "Coalition Forces will take appropriate measures to minimize and mitigate the disturbance to the public." "We will conduct these operations during hours of darkness to help alleviate any perception that we may be bringing more Coalition Forces into the" international zone, Seely wrote. "We respect your sovereign decision to order our departure," the general wrote. In addition to Milley's and Esper's statements denying that the coalition forces would leave Iraq, Pentagon press secretary Alyssa Farah said, "There has been no change in U.S. policy with regard to our force presence in Iraq." "We continue to consult with the Iraqi government regarding the defeat-ISIS mission and efforts to support the Iraqi Security Forces," Farah said. "We remain committed to the D-ISIS coalition and ensuring a safe, secure, and prosperous future for the Iraqi people," she continued. A day earlier, President Donald Trump angrily pushed back against the resolution by Iraq's parliament to expel coalition troops. "We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that's there. It cost billions of dollars to build," Trump told reporters on Sunday. "We're not leaving unless they pay us back for it," he said. Trump threatened to impose harsh sanctions on Iraq if the coalition forces were expelled. "If they do ask us to leave, if we don't do it in a very friendly basis, we will charge them sanctions like they've never seen before ever. It'll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame," Trump said. "If there's any hostility, that they do anything we think is inappropriate, we are going to put sanctions on Iraq, very big sanctions on Iraq," he continued. CNBC reached out to several White House spokesmen about the implications of the apparent letter from Seely, and about the president's threat of sanctions on Iraq. None responded. Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:07 PM PST Chilling WhatsApp messages sent by Reynhard Sinaga just hours after he drugged and raped a man implied he convinced yet 'another' straight man to join him in bed. Reading the notes in a shared in a shared group, pals of the 36-year-old monster pals believed Sinaga was a lothario. In reality, he had raped him. The 21-year-old victim was one of dozens of drunk and vulnerable young men who Sinaga preyed on over two years, reports Manchester Evening News. The vile predator would start talking to young men who had become isolated from their friends outside some of Manchester's busiest venues. He would lure them back to his flat where he drugged them, carried out vile rapes and sexual assaults and filmed the encounters on iPhones. Each of the 48 victims were oblivious to the fact that they had been raped or sexually assaulted until police knocked at their door years later. Police believe the true number of victims is closer to 195, making Sinaga the most prolific rapist in British judicial history. The extraordinary case has led to Sinaga being jailed for life, after being found guilty of sex offences in four separate trials. However, the MEN has revealed details of the sick phone messages Sinaga sent to his friends in the wake of two of his attacks. These sinister messages give a grim insight into the mindset of the sexual predator. In one WhatsApp chat, Sinaga told a friend that he would soon be living alone. "You can get in lots of straight boys darling," a friend replied. Sinaga replied: "Hahahah." "You mean like this one?", before sending photographs of a victim which he had taken, hours before, while the young man was unconscious. His friend - who police say was at the time unaware of Sinaga's criminality - replied: "Hahahahaha. "There's always a new one." Having drugged and raped the 21-year-old man just hours earlier, the rapist explains how the young man had left his car outside the city so had stayed with him. Sinaga says: "He is silly, like typical lads lads" and later adds: "He's got a lovely masculine southerner accent" The friend seems impressed and tells Sinaga: "F***ing hell darling u get a dif straight every week" To which the rapist responds: "Black Magic" and "Manchester is a magical city". He adds: "City of gay romance. "City of gay loooooove." Later, another friend joins the chat and says: "Black magic yeah! Rey makes drink potion of gay love haha." To which his first friend responds: "I know." "I want the formula" Sinaga then, with a chilling inference, considering his use of the knock out drugs GHB and GBL, references a pop song by the group Little Mix and writes: "Take a sip of my secret poison, I'll make you fall in love." His friend replies: "I wanted to pull the straight boy last weekend so bad. Ahahahah" To which Sinaga responds: "One drop should should be enough." Prosecutor Iain Simkin - who acted for the Crown Prosecution Service in all four trials - described these messages as 'breathtaking'. "He is admitting there what he is doing," he told a jury. "He's boasting about it. "It is breathtaking that not only is he committing these offences and filming these offences, he's boasting about these offences." But it wasn't the first time Sinaga had bragged to pals about his so-called conquests. Just months earlier he told a friend about his experience with another young man. "Well, he was straight until we woke up naked," he wrote in a text message. "I didn't get my New Year kiss, but I've had my first sex in 2015 already." The 'sex' Sinaga referred to was in fact two rapes, carried out at his flat in Manchester city centre in the early hours of New Year's Day 2015. "I met him in the Factory next to my building. Straight, 22, playing football and work in ******* club." "He was straight in 2014. 2015 is his breakthrough to the gay world hahaha." This pattern of messaging continued, and later that month Sinaga again spoke to friends about one of the men he had raped. Messages recovered from his phone described an encounter with a student. "Ladies," he wrote. "Some drama made we wide awake lol. "I had a 19 year old boy last night who fell out with his annoying girlfriend." He adds: "She kept shouting at him even on the phone." Sinaga claims his victim turned off his phone and 'we had some fun' when in fact he drugged and raped him. "But this morning, we found out that his girlfriend called the whole world that he's gone missing", he says. "His friend, his mom, the police…" To which his friend replies: "Run darling run. They will come after you." Sinaga replies: "His mum almost cried. The police had to see him in front of my flat cuz they thought he was forced lol." Later in the conversation Sinaga describes hearing the victim's girlfriend as 'unbelievably horrible' and sends a photograph of the victim to his friend. "He was such a good, calm and lovely boy," he wrote. "He deserves a better girl… Or boy haha. "First timer, yeah." His friend replies: "He got you as a consolation prize darling." And Sinaga says: "Yup. He came to the right person hahaha." He later adds: "Oh dear. Drama, drama, drama. I feel sorry for him. :-(" Another friend then joins the conversation and asks if Sinaga met the student on Grindr. He says: "Finally I can see the inside of Rey's room, I was always forbidden to go behind the magic door hahaha." Sinaga writes: "U hv seen it! Lol." To which the friend replies: "Briefly! Haha. You were always screaming 'nooo it's too messy!' Then we were joking male dead body were piling under the bed haha." Sinaga replies "Hahahahahha. "Actually, discreet straight boys sanctuary. They are hiding in my closet." Later in the conversation Sinaga writes: "He was telling me about the arguments with his girlfriend. "That he was fed up and need to escape lol. "Yes, for rescue. "SuperRey saves straight boys from their monstrous girlfriend." To which his friend replies: "Robin Hood: stealing from the straight to give to the gays haha." The following day the victim revisited Montana House with his girlfriend so that Sinaga could explain how he had spent the night at his flat. At the time, the young student had no idea that Sinaga had raped him or filmed the attacks, After telling the couple that he had helped the victim to his flat and let him sleep there, Sinaga took to his WhatsApp group to speak to his friends. He wrote: "Ladies. "I hv got a surprise visit. "Lol. "The girlfriend of the boy from last weekend lol." He adds: "Yeah. So many drama! But they seem lovely. "She wanted to meet me. "So they knocked from door to door in my building lol. "Just to find me. How sweet!" He then sends pictures of the victim, says he is 'only 19' and writes: "His gay boy affair, me, only 16 hahhaahha." To which his friend replies: "You always flirting with these young boys. "Oh darling." Another friend then joins the conversation and asks: "But baby doesn't she know you slept with him?! "Didn't she want revenge??? Lol." To which Sinaga replies: "We did not talk about it so I presume she does not know" ,and adds: "They were arguing that night. He told her he was at his friend's. I think she was just wanting to prove he was not lying" He later adds: "The girl seemed lovely but he is too good for her". He then claims he has met her before and states that he has 'added' the couple as friends on Facebook. The rapist later tells his friends: "The boy is too good. He is calm, relax, and always listens "He deserves a better girl like me hahahah." Sinaga has continued to deny any wrongdoing and ran four trials at Manchester Crown Court. He still claims that each of his victims had consensual sex with him, agreed to filmed and were willing participants in a sex game in which they pretended to be asleep as part of his fantasy. It was a notion the prosecutors dismissed as nonsense. All four juries unanimously agreed. Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:37 PM PST Piers Morgan has laid into an Australian Liberal MP over his views on climate change and the Prime Minister's handling of the bushfire crisis. Craig Kelly has been a longtime climate change skeptic, so the team on Good Morning Britain knew that there would probably be a bit of argy-bargy during their discussion. The interview started with Morgan asking how Mr Kelly couldn't believe that climate change had anything to do with the bushfire crisis gripping the country. The Liberal MP responded with the idea that the areas affected didn't undertake enough hazard reduction burns to prepare for the season. Fire experts say climate change has created hotter and drier conditions, making hazard reduction burns more difficult. But Associate Professor Philip Zylstra, from Wollongong University's Centre for Sustainable Ecosystem Solutions, told the Sydney Morning Herald that there have been record hazard reduction burns over the past few years. The TV host asked why Mr Kelly promoted the use of fossil fuels last year and the politician responded with: "To try and make out, as some politicians have done, and to hijack this debate, to exploit this tragedy, to push their ideological barrow that somehow or another, the Australian government could have done something by reducing its carbon emissions, that would have reduced these bushfires, is just complete nonsense." The GMB team then brought in meteorologist Laura Tobin to explain how Australia just endured the hottest and driest year on record. "At the moment we want everyone in the world to commit to lower our global temperature rise. You have the second highest carbon emission per person on earth and you are burying your head in the sand," Ms Tobin said. "This is a climate emergency. You're not a climate sceptic, you're a climate denier." But then they saved their best bit for last. Piers Morgan asked Mr Kelly what he thought of Prime Minister Scott Morrison's holiday to Hawaii during the crisis. "The ultimate responsibility for fighting fires is the state premier's," Mr Kelly said. Morgan responded with: "Scott Morrison thought the right response to these fires erupting in Australia was to go lie on a beach in Hawaii and that was a dereliction of his duty as leader of Australia. "You're facing right now one of the greatest crises you've ever faced and there is you, Mr Kelly, with respect, a senior politician who still doesn't think this has anything to do with a heating up planet, nothing to see here, nothing to worry about. "I gotta say, 'wake up, wake up'. Climate change and global warming are real and Australia is showing the entire world just how devastating it is. And a senior politician in Australia still pretends there's no connection and it's absolutely disgraceful." 5 Things To Remember If Your Goal Is To Find Love In 2020 - Elite Daily Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:23 PM PST I've never been a fan of the expression "You can't love someone else until you love yourself." It implies that you need to be at a certain stage of self-acceptance in order to be worthy of love. That said, you don't want to lose sight of your journey toward self-love as you search for romantic love — because recognizing your own worth is key to attracting a partner who treats you the way you deserve to be treated. Did you notice that I called it a "journey?" Self-love isn't really a state to be achieved, but rather, a continual and ever-evolving endeavor that you can work on every day. And your efforts will undoubtedly pay off in a big way when it comes to your love life. "We can always learn more about ourselves, what we want and need in a partner, what we have to offer a partner, what our boundaries are in our lives and relationships, and most importantly, how to love, accept and respect ourselves," Nikki Leigh, love coach and host of Ready for Love Radio, previously told Elite Daily. "That should be our first priority. Then, we're better able to love, accept and respect a partner who deserves our love and respect." Keep in mind, too, that it's just as important to know yourself as it is to love yourself — in fact, the two are deeply intertwined. "When looking for a partner, you should ideally have a solid sense of who you are which includes your deficits and weaknesses, as well as your talents and gifts," Anne Beverly Chow, counselor-in-residence at Bluebird Counseling Center, explained to Elite Daily. "If you can communicate what you want to a partner and admit your faults as well, it helps you manage your expectations and sets you up for success."
