As pandemic spreads, China's ex-epicenter down to 1 new case - The Herald-News

MADRID – The battle to contain the coronavirus reached new urgency, as more governments locked down borders and ordered new closures and restrictions and pleas went out to funnel masks and ventilators to places struggling with soaring numbers of sick patients.

The growing sense of crisis rocked financial markets Monday, particularly on Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 12.9%. Investors' fears that the pandemic will throw the economy into a recession sent the market to its worst one-day loss since 1987.

The shift in the battle lines was made clear by tallies showing cases outside China have surpassed those inside it and Spain now has the fourth-most cases in the world. The central Chinese city that was the former epicenter where the viral illness was first detected in December was down to just one new case on Tuesday.

With the number of cases worldwide topping 181,000, a surge of patients in Madrid's hospitals fueled worries across Europe of what lies ahead.

"There is no easy or quick way out of this extremely difficult situation," said Mark Rutte, the prime minister of the Netherlands, in the first televised speech by a Dutch premier since 1973.

Only China, Italy and Iran have more infections than Spain, where the number increased by roughly 20%, to 9,191 and fatalities rose to 309, according to the Spanish Health Ministry. It switched to a new reporting system, so the actual number may be higher.

A somber Rutte told viewers "a large part" of the Netherlands' 17 million people are likely to contract the virus. So far, 1,413 people have tested positive and 24 have died. The government closed schools, restaurants and bars and banned gatherings of more than 100 people.

Countries from Canada to Switzerland, Russia and Malaysia announced sharp new restrictions on the movement of people across their borders.

"We have a window of time at the moment to slow the spread of the virus," said Ulrike Demmer, a spokeswoman for Germany's government, which reversed its earlier insistence that border controls would not work. It imposed new limits on crossings with France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Luxembourg, after German infections increased by more than 1,000 over 24 hours.

With much-needed ventilators in short supply, the British government asked manufacturers, including automakers Ford and Rolls-Royce, to convert some of their assembly lines to making the life-saving equipment.

"We are facing what is an unprecedented situation and that is going to require an unprecedented response," said James Slack, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Around the world, fast-changing rules and restrictions tore up the script for daily life. Bars, pubs and restaurants were closed or restricting orders to takeout and delivery. Cemeteries in the Croatian capital restricted attendance at funerals to the closest relatives. U.S. casinos went dark, not just in Las Vegas, but in more than a dozen states.

Malaysia banned travel in and out of the country for two weeks and is allowing only essential services to stay open. France allowed people to leave home only to buy food, go to work, or do other essential tasks, restrictions President Emmanuel Macron said were heightened because people hadn't complied with earlier guidelines and "we are at war."

The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Somalia, which has one of Africa's weakest health systems after nearly three decades of conflict between the government and the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group.

As the pandemic expanded its reach, China and South Korea were trying to hold their hard-fought gains. China is quarantining new arrivals, who in recent days have accounted for an increasing number of cases, and South Korea starting Thursday will increase screenings of all travelers arriving from overseas.

China on Tuesday reported 21 new cases of the virus, 20 of them imported. Just one new case was confirmed in Wuhan, the Hubei provincial capital where the illness was first detected in late December. The update raised China's totals to 80,881 cases and 3,226 deaths.

China this week relaxed travel restrictions in Hubei, sending thousands of workers back to long-shuttered factories.

Most of the world's 78,000 recovered patients are in China. The virus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, for most people, but severe illness is more likely in the elderly and people with existing health problems.

In the United States, officials urged older Americans and those with chronic health conditions to stay home, and recommended all group gatherings be capped at 50 people.

Americans returning from abroad encountered chaotic airport health screenings that clearly broke all virus-fighting rules against having packed crowds close together.

School closings in 56 countries kept more than 516 million students home, the United Nations said. New York City joined those ranks Monday, closing a school system with 1.1 million students.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested a 30-day ban on people entering the bloc for non-essential travel reasons.

"The less travel, the more we can contain the virus," she said in a video message.

A number of EU member countries have, so far, resisting such far-reaching controls. But many went ahead with measures to sharply curtail activities inside their borders.

Switzerland's government declared a state of emergency, ordering shops, restaurants, bars and other facilities shut down. The measures exclude health-care operations as well as supermarkets, but also include entertainment and leisure facilities, which will be closed until April 19.

"We need to do everything possible to slow the advance of the coronavirus," Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga said, urging people to practice social distancing and follow government guidelines.

Still, some countries have resisted more stringent measures to contain the virus.

In Britain, bars and restaurants remained open and there was no ban on large events. The prime minister's spokesman said closing schools hadn't been ruled out, but "the scientific and medical advice is that that's not a step which we should be taking at this point in time."

Italy reported another jump in infections Monday, up more than 3,000 to 27,980. With 2,158 deaths – including 349 more in just the last 24 hours – Italy now accounts for well over a quarter of the global death toll. Cases, however, slowed in Lombardy, the hardest-hit region.

In Spain, a cut in the frequency of commuter trains created considerable crowds during rush hour.

Wearing blue latex gloves, cleaner Mari Carmen Ramírez said she, like many others, couldn't afford to risk her salary of 950 euros ($1,042) per month.

"I fear the coronavirus, but I fear more not being able to pay the utility bills," the 55-year-old said. "When this is all over, how are we going to eat?"

Manchester United's Ighalo reminds me of Papiss Cisse - Darren Bent - Goal.com

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 11:25 PM PDT

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Darren Bent has exclaimed how pleased he is with Odion Ighalo's fast start to life at Manchester United, comparing him to Papiss Cisse's time at Newcastle United.

Ighalo - a loan signing from Shanghai Shenhua - has scored four goals in eight appearances for the Red Devils, winning the hearts of fans in the process.

His fine displays have thus linked the 30-year-old Nigerian with a permanent switch to Old Trafford.

Cisse played for Newcastle between January 2011 and June 2016. His maiden campaign saw him hit 13 goals in 14 appearances for the Magpies including an audacious strike in a 2-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ighalo himself scored 15 goals in his maiden Premier League season with Watford during the 2015-16 campaign.

"He's [Ighalo] holding up the ball really well, scoring goals and very much like reminds me of the Ighalo we saw at Watford when he had that season where he was fantastic, scoring between 15 and 20 [goals] and it looks like he's got that confidence back," Bent said on talkSPORT.

"He might go a chunk of games without scoring goals, but once he finds the back of the net, he just goes on a roll.

"He kind of reminds me of Papiss Cisse. He had that season where he came in and scored goals and everything, he hit like the one at Chelsea, shouldn't go in but it flies into the corner."

Bent says he had no doubts about Ighalo's quality after there was initial doubts about United's choice of signing him, particularly as a last-minute buy on transfer deadline day in January.

"I know a lot of people question the signing, but I was always one that said it does make a little bit of sense," Bent continued.

"They [Manchester United didn't seem to get hold of anybody and he was willing to come there and take a pay cut from what he was earning [in China].

"He's got pedigree in the Premier League. He's been up to speed and has been absolutely brilliant. Whether they will keep him beyond this season, I can't see it, but at the minute, he's been absolutely fantastic.

"Everything has gone well for Ighalo. Manchester United have not had to pay much money for him and he wasn't to be there.

"He's spoken about how much he loves Manchester United. He's been a shining light and someone they [United] needed."

Bent is also of the opinion that Ighalo's rise and the potential of keeping him at Old Trafford next season will push rising star Mason Greenwood down the pecking order.

The 18-year has been in equally good form for the club, scoring 12 competitive goals.

Article continues below

"It might hamper him, maybe a little bit. As far as next season goes [If United keep Ighalo], they'll have Rashford, Ighalo, Martial, Greenwood and James," Bent added.

"That's five and they never play a front two, it's always a front three.

"So you're going to have Ighalo down the middle, Rashford down the left, Martial really can't play from the right, so you've got Dan James and Greenwood just sitting there."

T-Mobile Drops Data Limits and Won't Cancel Customers Who Can't Pay - The Motley Fool

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:01 PM PDT

T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) has joined its chief rivals AT&T and Verizon in pledging to not turn off service for any wireless customer who does not pay his or her bill for the next 60 days. The three companies have also agreed to waive any late payment fees if they are incurred due to financial hardships caused by coronavirus.

As it generally does, T-Mobile has also decided to do more than what the U.S. government (through the Federal Communications Commission) has asked of it. The Un-carrier, as it calls itself, has also decided to offer a number of other benefits to its customers.

A woman points at a display in a T-Mobile store.

T-Mobile has built its business on treating customers well. Image souce: T-Mobile.

What is T-Mobile doing?

The number three wireless carrier has taken a number of steps to make things easier on impacted customers. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Any T-Mobile or Metro by T-Mobile customer with a data plan will have unlimited smartphone data for the next 60 days (excluding roaming).
  • All T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers will get an extra 20GB of mobile hotspot/tethering for the next 60 days.
  • Providing free calling for all customers of both of its services to level 3 impacted countries (countries where only essential travel is currently allowed).

"I am inspired as I see communities, our nation, and the world coming together to fight this pandemic," wrote CEO John Legere in a letter to customers. "Our team is part of your community and we are dedicated to supporting you all through this unprecedented time."

Why is T-Mobile doing this?

It's easy to say that the company wants to avoid losing customers during what will be a difficult period. It's also fair to say that, based on past actions, Legere and his team truly try to put customers inerests first.

Malaysia and the Philippines enact sweeping measures, as coronavirus cases jump in Southeast Asia - CNN

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 09:49 PM PDT

On Monday, Malaysia's Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced some of the most far-reaching measures yet imposed in the region, with nationwide controls on movement and travel to stem infections of Covid-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.
Malaysians will be banned from traveling abroad, while foreign tourists and visitors will be restricted from entering the country, according to the state-run Bernama News Agency.
It comes as Malaysia reported 125 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 553, according to a tweet from Malaysia's Health Ministry. On Sunday, the country reported 190 new cases. Most of the new infections from both days are linked to a religious rally that thousands attended near the capital Kuala Lumpur, the Health Ministry said.
The control order, which will start Wednesday and last until the end of the month, includes a "comprehensive restriction on movements and public gatherings," including a ban on all religious, sports, social, and cultural activities, Bernama reported. Malaysia is home to more than 31 million people.
All houses of worship and business premises will be closed, with the exception of supermarkets, wet markets, grocery shops and convenience stores selling daily necessities. Most government premises, except those providing essential services such as water and electricity, will also be closed, Bernama reported.
Schools, universities and other education institutions will be closed until the end of the month.
"I appeal to everyone to always comply with this movement control order. It is our common responsibility that we must implement as citizens who are concerned about our family, our society and our country," Muhyiddin said.

Philippines on lockdown

Meanwhile, the Philippines placed half the country -- about 50 million people -- under an "enhanced community quarantine" in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.
Luzon, the Philippines' largest and most populous island that includes the capital Manila, has effectively been locked down. All mass public transportation has been suspended, and residents told they can only leave their homes for essential items, according to CNN affiliate CNN Philippines.
Offices have been shut and only supermarkets, convenience stores, hospitals, medical clinics, pharmacies, and banks, as well as food delivery services and water stations will be allowed to remain open.
From Tuesday midnight local time, people have 72 hours to leave the island if they wish, after which all air travel to Luzon will be restricted.
Filipino nationals, their spouses and children, permanent residents and holders of diplomatic visas will still be allowed entry, as will cargo, according to CNN Philippines.
Enforcing the new measures will be a 70,000-strong police force on Luzon and anyone violating the quarantine may face arrest, CNN Philippines reported.
Video showed queues of commuters lined up at border checkpoints with authorities checking temperatures on Monday morning after Manila was placed in a community quarantine.
The Philippines has reported 140 cases of coronavirus and 12 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
Elsewhere, countries are preparing to stave off widespread infections. Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said that the country's cabinet will meet on Tuesday to decide on enacting measures restricting public gatherings, closing schools, sport arenas and Muay Thai boxing rings.
Those measures include canceling the annual Songkran New Year water festival, which attracts millions of visitors each year who take part in mass water fights, and a large number of Thais travel back to their hometowns.
Reported coronavirus cases in the country have jumped in recent days after months of incremental increases. Thailand's Ministry of Public Health reported 33 new cases on Monday -- the biggest single-day increase -- bringing the total to 147. Most of the new infected are among people who attended Muay Thai boxing events.

Fears of a second surge

The novel coronavirus has infected more than 181,500 people and killed over 7,100 worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking cases reported by the World Health Organization and additional sources.
The continued acceleration of cases comes as countries around the world rush to implement emergency measures in an effort to contain the virus and enforce social distancing, including nationwide lockdowns, imposing border and travel restrictions, school closures and ordering restaurants, cafes and bars to close or reduce services.
Lockdowns are being imposed around the world. China's example highlights the costs
Fear is growing in Asia of the possibility of a second wave of infections from imported cases.
Countries such as China, South Korea, and Singapore have seen caseloads stabilize in recent weeks, thanks largely to a combination of aggressive containment and social distancing measures.
Tens of millions of people in mainland China and elsewhere in Asia were subjected to varying restrictions, with people unable to leave their homes or housing compounds, or go to work or school.
But a rise in infections linked to overseas travel has led to concerns that those sacrifices could be undone.
Governments across the region are now stepping up quarantine and travel restrictions. From Monday, all overseas travelers arriving in the Chinese capital Beijing will be sent to quarantine facilities for 14 days at their own cost, according to state media. Authorities in Beijing had previously required all passengers arriving in the capital from overseas to self-quarantine, either at home or in a designated facility, for two complete weeks.
In Singapore, authorities have announced the introduction of a 14-day mandatory self-quarantine for new visitors traveling from several East Asian countries, Switzerland and the UK. And Hong Kong has urged its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Ireland, the UK and US.

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:56 PM PDT

メンバーは5人で、これまでの「Poppin'Party(ポッピン パーティー)」「Roselia(ロゼリア)」「RAISE A SUILEN(レイズ ア スイレン)」の3バンド同様、リアルバンドでもあるんです。

(C)BanG Dream! Project (C)Craft Egg Inc. (C)bushiroad All Rights Reserved.

本来ゲーム課金の面でいうとDAU(デイリー・アクティブ・ユーザー)を重視しなくてはいけないんですが、プロジェクトの広がりという意味で、MAU(マンスリー・アクティブ・ユーザー)を重視しています。

Why is social distancing so important? This viral 'Scrubs' clip will explain - TODAY

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:28 PM PDT

Here's another reminder of why social distancing is so important amid the coronavirus outbreak.

A clip from a 2006 episode of the sitcom "Scrubs" went viral this weekend, and it explains how a simple sneeze can potentially lead to illness.

The scene is from the opening of the episode "My Cabbage," and features actor Ken Jenkins (as Dr. Kelso) explaining that the No. 1 cause of death in a hospital is "infection."

Jump to a quick cut of a boy sneezing into his hands and his mother cleaning his nose with a tissue. Her hand turns green, showing the way the bacteria is spreading, and she shakes a doctor's hand. Now the doctor's hand is green, and he bumps into a nurse. Together, they help pick up some papers the doctor has dropped, and now the nurse's hand is green. She taps a patient on the shoulder ... and now the patient's arm is green.

"And just like that, you have a patient in trouble," said Kelso.

Several people began sharing the clip on Twitter. "Scrubs" stars Zach Braff and John C. McGinley also retweeted it.

Make sure you're taking its lessons to heart, and continue to practice hand-washing and social distancing. Maybe watch some more "Scrubs" (or one of these other shows) while you're at it!

Mint Mobile is giving out free data for the next month amid COVID-19 - Engadget

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:01 PM PDT

Mint Mobile

Ryan Reynolds' wireless carrier of choice is giving out free data to help people in the US cope with the coronavirus epidemic. Until April 14th, you can get free 3GB data packages from Mint Mobile, even if you've never been a customer before.

To get the data, download the Mint Mobile app (Android and iOS), tap the "Account" icon on the bottom right of the interface and then press "Buy more data" under the payment heading. You'll then have the option to "buy" either a 1GB or 3GB data bucket. Pick the latter option. You'll need to pay for the data with either a credit or bank card, but then Mint Mobile will refund your purchase. You can continue to add data as you use more, though you'll need to go through 95 percent of your current allotment before adding another 3GB to your account.

"These last few days have thrown the world into an unprecedented moment of uncertainty where reliable communication is of the utmost importance," Mint says on its website. "We feel it's necessary to do something that could possibly help all of us navigate this tough time a little bit better."

Over the last week, we've seen some of the bigger carriers in the US implement similar measures. T-Mobile, for instance, is giving all current customers unlimited data for the next 60 days. As part of the FCC's Keep Americans Connected Pledge, most carriers and ISPs have also agreed to waive late fees for any individuals and small businesses who can't pay their bills because of the outbreak.

Lockdowns, tanking stocks: Virus fight shifts to Europe, U.S. - Press Herald

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 06:59 PM PDT

MADRID — The global battle to contain the coronavirus reached a new level of urgency Monday, as governments locked down borders, a new wave of closures and restrictions kept more than 500 million students at home, and pleas went out to funnel masks and ventilators to places struggling with soaring caseloads.

The growing sense of crisis rocked global financial markets, particularly on Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 12.9 percent. Investors' fears that the outbreak will throw the global economy into a recession sent the market to its worst one-day loss since 1987.

The shifting fronts in the battle were made clear by figures showing that cases outside China — where the virus originated — surpassed those inside its borders for the first time. Spain officially became the fourth-most infected country in the world, surpassing South Korea.

Only China, Italy and Iran have more confirmed cases of COVID-19 than Spain, where the number of infections increased overnight by roughly 20%, to 9,191, and the number of fatalities rose to 309, according to the Spanish Health Ministry. The actual figure was presumed to be even higher, because Spain switched to a new system of reporting.

A somber Rutte told viewers that "a large part" of the Netherlands' 17 million people are likely to contract the virus. So far, 1,413 people have tested positive and 24 have died. The government has ordered schools, restaurants and bars closed until April 6 and banned gatherings of more than 100 people.

It imposed new limits on crossings with France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Luxembourg, after cases of the virus increased by more than 1,000 over 24 hours.

Ireland ordered all pubs and bars to close for two weeks — including on Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day.

In the Croatian capital of Zagreb, officials in charge of the city's cemeteries restricted attendance at funerals to only the closest relatives of the deceased, to avoid spreading the virus.

In the U.S., casinos went dark not just in Las Vegas, but in at least 14 other states. From Alaska to New York, restaurants and bars were ordered either to shut down or to restrict their services to delivery and takeout.

Malaysia's leader announced a sweeping lockdown, with travel in and out of the country banned for two weeks and only essential services allowed to stay open. The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Somalia, which has one of Africa's weakest health systems after nearly three decades of conflict between the government and the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group.

In France, officials imposed nationwide restrictions on where people could go, allowing them to leave home only to buy food, go to work, or do other essential tasks.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the government ordered the restrictions because people hadn't complied with earlier guidelines and "we are at war."

A number of EU member countries have, so far, resisted such far-reaching controls. But many went ahead Monday with measures to sharply curtail activities inside their borders.

In Switzerland, the city-state of Geneva banned gatherings of more than five people, though exceptions were made for business meetings that followed public health rules.

In the United States, officials urged older Americans and those with chronic health conditions to stay home, and recommended functions be capped at 10 people.

Americans returning from abroad encountered chaotic airport health screenings that clearly broke all virus-fighting rules against having packed crowds close together.

For most people, the coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. But severe illness can occur, especially in the elderly and people with existing health problems. Worldwide, more more than 7,000 people have died. Over 78,000 have recovered, most of them in China.

In China, thousands of workers headed back to jobs at factories desperate to get production going again, as the virus ebbed. In South Korea, only 74 more cases were reported.

But authorities urged vigilance to keep hard-won gains against the microscopic foe.

"If we loosen our grip on the quarantine," the South Korean Dong-a Ilbo newspaper said in an editorial, "it could be just a matter of time for the embers of small-scale cluster infections to be revived."

Italy reported another jump in infections Monday, up more than 3,000 to 27,980. With 2,158 deaths — including 349 more in just the last 24 hours — Italy now accounts for well over a quarter of the global death toll. Cases, however, slowed in Lombardy, the hardest-hit region.

In Spain, a cut in the frequency of commuter trains created considerable crowds during rush hour Monday Atocha, one of Madrid's main train stations.

Wearing blue latex gloves, cleaner Mari Carmen Ramírez said she, like many others, couldn't afford to risk her salary of $1,042 per month.

"I fear the coronavirus, but I fear more not being able to pay the utility bills," the 55-year-old said. "When this is all over, how are we going to eat?"

Geller reported from New York. Associated Press writers Mike Corder in Amsterdam, Jovana Gec in Belgrade, Frank Jordans in Berlin, Colleen Barry in Milan, Italy, Ken Moritsugu in Beijing, Kim Tong-hyung and Hyung-jin Kim in Seoul, South Korea and Eileen Ng in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia contributed to this report.

T-Mobile and Sprint providing unlimited data to all customers for coronavirus relief - Tom's Guide UK

Posted: 16 Mar 2020 05:31 PM PDT

Here's a bit of good news for T-Mobile, Sprint and Metro by T-Mobile wireless customers during these trying times: For the next 60 days, all three carriers are lifting their caps on existing data plans, in effect giving everyone unlimited data for the next 60 days for no extra charge. They're are also providing every line with an additional 20GB of hotspot data.

The move comes after a number of wireless carriers and home broadband providers signed the Federal Communication Commissions' Keep Americans Connected Pledge, to relieve usage constraints on customers while people are especially reliant upon the internet to work from home an connect with loved ones.

AT&T was among the first to act last week, lifting data caps for home internet customers, though it hasn't extended that effort to wireless users yet. Comcast followed suit, and while Verizon has yet to do the same, Verizon is waiving late fees for the next two months for residential and small business customers unable to pay their bills.

If you use T-Mobile, Sprint or Metro, you don't need to do anything to get these extra perks; they're extended to all users effective immediately. What's more, even if you aren't on a plan that allows you to use your phone as a hotspot, you'll still get 20GB for the next 60 days — though all three carriers haven't rolled that out quite yet, and those measures are "coming soon," according to their press releases.

As network strain increases, T-Mobile is also looking to utilize more 600MHz spectrum to broaden its network capacity during this period. Sprint customers will also have access to T-Mobile's network through roaming, again free of charge, and both networks are offering users "complimentary" international calling rates to Level 3 countries as defined by the CDC, where nonessential travel is advised against.

Interestingly, T-Mobile and Sprint's measures haven't been extended to Boost Mobile customers. Boost is a subsidiary of Sprint, but will likely be spun off as the Now Network finalizes its merger with T-Mobile.

It also remains to be seen whether Verizon and AT&T will lift data caps for mobile customers, given that they have already done so for residential users. Because those carriers also offer home internet service, and because many people are likely staying indoors anyway, they'll likely maintain the status quo on the mobile side. We'll update this story if that situation changes.

*Steph Curry announced on Friday that he's teaming with a local food bank to provide more than 1 million meals to low-income students in Oakland who cannot attend schools amid coronavirus shutdowns.

Curry and his wife, Ayeesha, shared their plan in a Twitter video, revealing that their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation will work with the Alameda County Community Food Bank and Oakland Unified School District on the initiative.

"We know the world is changing before our eyes in terms of dealing with the spread of coronavirus and we just found out that the Oakland Unified School District is closing the doors for the foreseeable future, so we want to intercede on behalf of the kids that rely on the daily services and try to help anyway we can," Steph said in the video.

As noted by CNN, the National School Lunch Program provides low-cost or free lunches to 29.7 million children, but with the closure of schools across the nations, families are concerned about how they are going to feed their children.

The Oakland's Unified School District has temporarily closed schools through at least Sunday, April 5.

"The statistics are really staggering. At least 18,000 kids rely on at least two meals a day from the school system, so we want to make sure that we rally around everyone and ensure that these kids are not wondering where their next meal is coming from," Ayesha said in the Twitter video.

Hear the couple explain their plan via the clip above.

The Golden State Warriors guard also urged his followers "to take responsibility for ourselves and do whatever it takes to #stopthespread," he wrote on Twiter. Adding, "There's a sense of urgency to flatten the curve and give ourselves and the healthcare system the best chance to get through this pandemic. Share this message and let's protect each other!"

WATCH:

Meanwhile, the rest of the Warriors have also pledged a $1 million donation to a disaster relief fund to aid Chase Center employees who won't be working games due to the NBA suspension of the season to help prevent the spread of the potentially deadly CORDVID-19.

Thousands of hourly employees at basketball arenas across the country have been hit the hardest by the NBA shutdown.

The Dallas Mavericks have officially announced their plan to pay hourly workers at the American Airlines Center with owner Mark Cuban vowing to take care of the staffers.

"I reached out to the folks at the arena and our folks at the Mavs to find out what it would cost to support, financially support, people who aren't going to be able to come to work. They get paid by the hour, and this was their source of income," he said. "So, we'll do some things there. We may ask them to go do some volunteer work in exchange, but we've already started the process of having a program in place. I don't have any details to give, but it's certainly something that's important to me."
