Adam Schefter is now breaking lacrosse news.

Schefter Tweeted Saturday that Chris Hogan, the Penn State midfielder turned Super Bowl wide receiver who’s oft-mentioned lacrosse roots became a meme among the lacrosse fans, has declared for the Premier Lacrosse League entry draft.

“I have signed with Premier Lacrosse League for the 2021 season,” Hogan later wrote on Twitter. “As many of you know, my roots are in lacrosse, and I’m excited to fight for a roster spot with the best in the world!”

Hogan is a two-time Super Bowl champion who spent three seasons with the New England Patriots. He finished his career with the New York Jets and suffered an ankle injury and was waived in December.

While it’s surely an attention-grabbing move and will bring attention to the league, it’s also fair to guess whether Hogan can crack a lineup — particularly with and infusion of Major League Lacrosse talent. Of course, all those incoming players have more prestigious college and pro lacrosse careers — but none have been through the rigors of a nine-year NFL career.

Earlier this week, Rob Pannell was traded from the Atlas to the Redwoods, a blockbuster involving one of the biggest names in the sport. The Player Movement window is open, and there are three drafts upcoming to build the Cannons LC roster, welcome new players (mostly from MLL), and college players.
