PARIS, Feb 22 (Reuters) - French mutual insurer Groupe Macif is in pole position to acquire Aviva’s French operations, Le Figaro reported on Monday, as the bidding deadline set by the UK group nears.
Macif is poised to enter exclusive talks over the acquisition, the French daily reported in a preview of its Feb. 23 edition.
Its earlier indicative offer placed it ahead of rival bidders including investment firm Eurazeo and life insurer Athora, backed by U.S. private equity fund Apollo, sources have said.
Aviva had set a Feb. 22 deadline for final bids for its French operations, with offers due four days later for its Polish activities. ($1 = 0.8229 euros) (Reporting by Laurence Frost Editing by Sonya Hepinstall)
