NASCAR: 3 possible additions to the Daytona 500 entry list - Beyond the Flag

deweweko.blogspot.com

The entry list for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 currently has 44 cars, but there are three more possible additions.

Single-car qualifying and the Bluegreen Vacations Duels leading up to the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway will be crucial for several teams and drivers.

There are just 40 spots available in the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida, and 36 cars are guaranteed one of those spots.

There are already 44 cars on the entry list, so there will inevitably be disappointment following next Wednesday and Thursday’s sessions to set the starting lineup.

And there may be more than just four drivers disappointed once the 40-car field is set, as there is still a chance that the entry list could grow to as many as 47 cars. This would result in 11 drivers battling for the final four open starting spots next week heading into the weekend of the “Great American Race”,

Here’s a brief list of the three possible additions to the entry list for the 63rd annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway next Sunday, February 14.

NY Racing Team – #44 Chevrolet

NY Racing Team, which haven’t competed in a Cup Series race since 2018 and haven’t competed in the Daytona 500 since 2015, have stated that they plan to run the entire 36-race 2021 season without a charter, but they have yet to confirm those plans and have not announced any drivers, not even for the Daytona 500.

The Money Team Racing – #50 Chevrolet

The Money Team Racing are still aiming to make their Cup Series debut following more than a year of speculation about their arrival. They had been expected to partner with Spire Motorsports and co-brand one of their cars for the 2021 season before purchasing one of their three charters and running their own car full-time in 2022, but they could end up their own non-chartered entry in this year’s Daytona 500 now that Spire Motorsports’ plans have been solidified.

Tommy Baldwin Racing – #71 Chevrolet

Tommy Baldwin Racing have stated that they want to compete in the Daytona 500 this year, something that they haven’t done since 2017 despite attempting to do so in 2019 with Ryan Truex. But they are still working on putting a deal together, and they have not mentioned any potential drivers.

Front row qualifying for the 63rd annual Daytona 500 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 10, with the Bluegreen Vacations Duels scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 11 to set the starting lineup. Fox Sports 1 is set to broadcast both events live from Daytona International Speedway beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET on their respective dates. The race itself is set to be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 14.
