Only one team currently set to compete at all throughout the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season is not on the entry list for the Daytona 500.
The entry list for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 is overflowing, as there are 44 cars on it as we prepare for tonight’s single-car qualifying qualifying session (7:00 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1) and tomorrow evening’s Bluegreen Vacations Duels (7:00 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1).
Because of the fact that 36 cars are chartered entries and thus guaranteed to qualify for the race, this effectively means that there will be eight drivers competing for four open spots.
There is a 40-car limit for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked Daytona International Speedway oval in Daytona Beach, Florida, just as there has been for every Cup Series race since the start of the 2016 season.
But there is one notable omission from the entry list for the 63rd annual running of this race.
All of the teams with any sort of confirmed plans to compete at any point throughout the 36-race 2021 season (so excluding NY Racing Team and Tommy Baldwin Racing after their Daytona 500 efforts fell apart) have plans to compete in the Daytona 500, except for one.
That one is Go Fas Racing. Go Fas Racing announced in October that they would be getting rid of their charter and not running a full schedule in the 2021 season. Corey LaJoie, who now drives for Spire Motorsports, had previously announced that he would not be back with the team for 2021.
They are still set to field the #32 Ford in select races, however, five or six to be specific. Ryan Ellis is currently slated to drive the car whenever it is entered.
But the Daytona 500 is not one of the races for which this car is entered.
NY Racing Team and Tommy Baldwin Racing could still show up later in the season as well, of course, but as far as confirmations are concerned, Go Fas Racing stand alone as far as confirmed teams but without a Daytona 500 entry.
The 63rd annual Daytona 500 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 14, and Fox is set to broadcast the race live from Daytona International Speedway beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
