Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that all travellers from Cyprus, Germany, Norway, Poland, San Marino, and Switzerland will be required to follow testing and quarantine rules upon their arrival in the Baltic State, as these territories have been added to the red list.
According to authorities in Estonia, the red list includes countries that have reported high COVID-19 infection rates in the last two weeks, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Besides the six countries mentioned above, Estonia’s red list includes the following territories:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Czechia
- Denmark
- Greece
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Liechtenstein
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Switzerland
Citizens from the countries mentioned above are obliged to follow testing and quarantine rules upon their arrival in the Baltic State.
However, Estonia’s government previously clarified that travellers who hold valid proof of immunization against the virus would not be required to follow additional requirements upon their entry into Estonia, such as testing or self-isolation rules.
Since the start of the pandemic, authorities in Estonia have divided other countries into several categories, taking into account the epidemiological situation in them, in a bid to stop the further spread of the virus and its new strains.
Besides the red category, other countries are also grouped into the yellow list, which includes medium-risk territories, and the green list, which consists of countries considered safe in terms of the COVID-19 situation.
At present, the yellow list includes the following territories:
- Andorra
- Italy
- Monaco
- Portugal
- France
- Sweden
- Finland
Travellers from the countries included in the yellow list will be required to present a negative result of the COVID-19 test before travelling to Estonia.
As for the green list, after an increase in the number of infections reported recently in Italy, this country has been moved from the green to the yellow list, and currently, Estonia’s green list includes only three territories:
- Holy See
- Malta
- Spain
According to the figures provided by the World Health Organization, more than 202,600 people in Estonia have tested positive for the Coronavirus and its new strains since the start of the pandemic, while 1,581 people have died during the same period.
WHO figures show that in the last 24 hours, Estonia has reported a total of 1,435 new COVID-19 cases of infections and seven deaths.
Based on the data provided by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), 80.2 per cent of the population in Estonia is vaccinated against the Coronavirus.
