Travellers from Spain and the Vatican City State can now enter Latvia without having to follow entry rules as the two countries have been placed on the green list.
According to the latest update made by the Latvian Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the country’s authorities have noted that Spain and the Vatican City State have registered less than 75 COVID-19 infection cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last couple of weeks.
On average, Spain has reported 72 positive cases during the last two weeks, whereas the Vatican City State hasn’t reported any new cases, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
For this reason, since November 30, all persons who have been fully vaccinated against the virus, as well as those who have recovered from the disease, are allowed to travel to Latvia for non-essential purposes without having to follow the testing requirement.
In addition, vaccinated and recovered travellers are also exempt from the self-isolation requirement as long as their vaccination or recovery certificate is valid.
Similarly, the Latvian authorities have explained that unvaccinated and unrecovered travellers from Spain and the Vatican City State are also allowed to enter the country for non-essential purposes.
However, they are required to take a PCR test within 72 hours before entry or a rapid antigen test within 48 hours before their arrival.
Except for the two EU countries, travellers from several non-EU countries also fall under the green list.
Latvia’s green list currently includes all these third countries: South Korea, Colombia, Qatar, New Zealand, Peru, Argentina, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Namibia, Rwanda, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan. The list also includes Macau and Hong Kong, which are currently subject to reciprocity.
Simultaneously, through the same update, the Latvian authorities have revealed that all the other EU/Schengen Area countries are placed on its orange list.
Of all the countries that are currently coloured orange, Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, and Czechia have registered the highest infection rates.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over the last seven days, Slovenia reported 22,529 cases, Slovakia reported 51,239 cases, Austria reported 98,301 cases, and Czechia reported 107,304 new infection cases.
Vaccinated and recovered travellers who reach Latvia from one of the orange-listed countries are not required to follow any entry rules. In contrast, those who haven’t recovered or been vaccinated against the virus must undergo COVID-19 testing and stay self-isolated for ten days.
Nonetheless, everyone can shorten their quarantine period by submitting a negative Coronavirus test result on the seventh day.
