Ex-Barcelona player Deco, who recently joined the club's recruitment team, has been talking to the 23-year-old's agent, while coach Xavi has given the green light to sign him.
Cabral will likely cost between $14-$17 million, but Barca will have to sell some players before they can act on their interest.
Man Utd join Juve, Spurs & Newcastle in Vlahovic pursuit
Manchester United will challenge Juventus, Tottenham and Newcastle to the signing of Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic, reports The Daily Mail.
Juve have made the 21-year-old their top target and are hopeful of signing him in January, though they will have to offload several players before they will be able to afford his salary.
AC Milan, Spurs and Newcastle are all said to be interested, too, but United could swoop in with an offer as they look to bolster their attack.

The winger is regarded one of Ukraine's finest talents and has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Shakhtar.

Liverpool target Raphinha committed to Leeds
Leeds United's Brazil ace Raphinha is convinced that he can achieve his ambitions at Elland Road, despite the club's lowly league position.
“Without a doubt," the Liverpool target told BBC Radio Leeds. "When you bring together players with a real, strong, winning desire together with the manager, the coaching staff, fans who love the club, you create a wonderful atmosphere in the stadium and at the training ground.
“Marcelo Bielsa demands a lot of us. We know that. We’re used to it. We listen to him. He helps us develop and evolve as players, as professionals."
