With the summer season just around the corner, five additional European Union/Schengen Area countries have decided to drop their entry rules and permit restriction-free entry to all travellers.
The most recent countries that have decided to no longer apply entry rules to incoming travellers are Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania, and Switzerland, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Bulgaria dropped all of its entry rules on May 1. Announcing the government’s decision, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that all travellers, regardless of their country of origin, can now enter Bulgaria without being required to present a vaccination, recovery, or test certificate.
In addition, the same has noted that the domestic COVID-19 restrictions have also been dropped. Travellers are no longer required to wear a face mask when attending different public places and events.
Similarly, Croatia is also the most recent country to lift its COVID-19 entry restrictions. The country’s authorities announced that all travellers are now permitted entry under the same rules that were in place during the pre-pandemic period.
All travellers can now also enter Greece restriction-free. The Greek Ministry of Health announced during the weekend that all travellers, even those from third countries, are permitted entry for all kinds of purposes without having to meet any rules.
Apart from the countries mentioned above, travellers can now enter Lithuania restriction-free too. The latter’s authorities explained that the country no longer requires travellers to present COVID proof – a vaccination, recovery, or test certificate.
In addition, Switzerland has also already dropped its COVID-19 entry restrictions. The Swiss authorities said earlier in April that incoming travellers would no longer have to follow any entry rules. It was explained that travellers are now required to follow basic border measures.
The decision of the countries mentioned above to remove their entry rules follows the infection and vaccination rates.
The World Health Organization (WHO) shows that in the last seven days, Bulgaria reported 3,693 infection cases, Croatia reported 5,207, Greece reported 45,318 infection cases, Lithuania reported 3,117 new cases, and Switzerland reported only eight new cases.
As for the vaccination rates, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reveals that until April 29, only 35.5 per cent of the entire adult population has been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease. The other countries, Croatia (66.0 per cent), Greece (82.2 per cent), Lithuania (79.1 per cent), and Switzerland (69.1 per cent) have higher vaccination rates.
