The Detroit Red Wings have signed Flint Firebirds center Amadeus Lombardi to a three-year entry-level contract.
Lombardi, 19, was Detroit’s fifth selection (113th overall in the fourth round) in the 2022 entry draft. He is small (5-10, 165) but a good skater and has been described as a competitive player and hard worker by Red Wings director of amateur scouting Kris Draper.
Lombardi leads the Firebirds in goals (21), assists (23) and points (44) in 31 games. He has 39 goals and 103 points in 98 games over two seasons in OHL Flint.
The left-shooter from Aurora, Ontario, is the second player signed from the 2022 draft class, after top pick Marco Kasper (fourth overall).
Following this year’s NHL Prospects Tournament, Grand Rapids Griffins coach Ben Simon said of Lombardi: “Amadeus has a good little motor to him. He scoots around the ice pretty well. Sometimes a little bit too well. He takes himself out of plays. We’ve talked to him a little bit about that. He’s pretty confident and composed with the puck. He’s made some nice plays since he’s been here.”
Lombardi missed a year of development time in 2020-21 when the OHL season was canceled due to the pandemic.
