Spire Motorsports will not field its NASCAR Xfinity Series entry in Friday’s Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway, despite the team’s original plans to do so, the organization confirmed to TobyChristie.com on Monday.

In March, the September 15 event at Bristol was announced as part of a six-race campaign for the organization in the second-tier series, in which the No. 77 Chevrolet would be driven by NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular Carson Hocevar.

Hocevar will now have the chance to spend Thursday focused on his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series efforts with Niece Motorsports, before flipping the switch to his third straight NASCAR Cup Series start with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB on Friday and Saturday.

The No. 77 was also scheduled to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Darlington Raceway earlier this month, but was withdrawn, as Spire Motorsports allowed the Portage, Michigan-native to focus on making his second-ever NASCAR Cup Series start on one of the circuit’s toughest tracks.

At this time, Spire Motorsports has not confirmed if additional events will be added to the Xfinity Series entry’s schedule, with or without Hocevar. But, in four starts, the entry has picked up finishes of sixth and eighth in its two incident-free events.

The 20-year-old driver has continued to be one of NASCAR’s busiest drivers, with part-time schedules in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series, along with his full-time effort for Niece Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

In three starts at NASCAR’s top level, Hocevar has turned heads, after a pair of top-20 finishes in the No. 42 Chevrolet for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, and a top-15 run gone awry for Hocevar at WWT Raceway, when driving the No. 7 for Spire Motorsports.
