| Posted: 04 Dec 2019 12:26 AM PST Khloe Kardashian Reportedly 'Confused' by Caitlyn Jenner's Claim They Haven't Spoken in Years - Showbiz Cheat Sheet Caitlyn Jenner claims that she and Khloe Kardashian haven't spoken in five or six years — and Kardashian is reportedly hurt and confused by that statement. Kardashian hasn't responded personally on the matter but a rep for Jenner says there's no beef between them. ![]() Jenner says it's been years since she and Kardashian spokeFans knew that there had been some tension between Jenner and Kardashian, but Jenner seemed to admit during an episode of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! that things are much worse than many believed. Jenner discussed her relationship with Kardashian during the celeb reality show, sharing that they had a falling out after she released her memoir — and things never got better. According to Jenner, things between her and Kardashian weren't in a good place even before her book came out. Jenner explained how the rift with Kardashian began when Jenner told each of them she was transitioning, noting: "The only one that was really, and still, even to today can't quite figure it out was Khloe. Khloe, for some reason, was pissed off about something through this whole process." Jenner confessed, "It's been five or six years and I really haven't talked to her since. We were really close, I raised her since she was five years old, I really don't know what her issues are. I really don't know." Rumors of an ongoing feud resurfacedMost fans were under the impression that things between the two were fine, given that Kardashian said as much during a May interview with Laura Wasser for an episode of her Divorce Sucks podcast. At the time, Kardashian shared that she and Jenner were on good terms: "I'm fine with Caitlyn. I saw Caitlyn recently, trying to think when, but yeah when I see Caitlyn it's fine. I think we've really come a long way. It was a struggle for all of us… not because she was transitioning. I think from just how it was all handled." Kardashian didn't, however, show up to Caitlyn's 70th birthday party, though it seemed she squashed any rumors of a feud by sharing on her Instagram Story that she had filmed a commercial that day. Kardashian is reportedly confused about the claimGiven what Kardashian had said about Jenner earlier this year, it's easy to understand that Jenner's claim might have come out of left field. According to a report from TMZ, Kardashian was "completely blindsided" and "genuinely confused" about Jenner's claims. Sources told TMZ she "rejects the notion they're still beefing," and that Kardashian "was completely supportive of Caitlyn's transition at the time" but things became tense "when Caitlyn took shots at Kris in her memoir." Sources told TMZ that "she's hurt by Caitlyn's accusation there's tension… there's no bad blood from Khloe's side." Further, a spokesperson for Jenner told Elite Daily: "Caitlyn and Khloe don't have any beef, feud, or drama. Caitlyn just isn't as close with Khloe as they used to be, but there is certainly no feud." 2019-12-04 00:12:26Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMigwFodHRwczovL3d3dy5jaGVhdHNoZWV0LmNvbS9lbnRlcnRhaW5tZW50L2tobG9lLWthcmRhc2hpYW4tY29uZnVzZWQtaHVydC1jYWl0bHluLWplbm5lci1jbGFpbS10aGV5LWhhdmVudC1zcG9rZW4taW4teWVhcnMtYmVlZi5odG1sL9IBAA?oc=5 |
| Daisy Ridley on filming 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' after Carrie Fisher's death - Fox News Posted: 04 Dec 2019 12:25 AM PST Daisy Ridley on filming 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' after Carrie Fisher's death - Fox News ![]() Daisy Ridley is speaking out about her experience filming "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" without franchise staple Carrie Fisher. Ridley, 27, recently spoke with British GQ about her time on set, calling Fisher's absence "difficult." Ridley not only lost a friend and co-star after Fisher suffered a heart attack in 2016, but in order to complete the most recent "Star Wars" trilogy, Ridley had to film scenes that would be spliced together with unused footage from "The Force Awakens." 'STAR WARS' STAR BILLY DEE WILLIAMS REFERS TO SELF AS 'FEMININE AS WELL AS MASCULINE' "It was definitely difficult," the actress said in the interview, published Tuesday. "It was emotional doing it because you're also weirdly picturing her. You're not picturing how the scene is going to be." Ridley also said she never brought up Fisher's death with co-star Mark Hamill, who had known the actress for 40 years before she passed away. However, Ridley did mention that she reached out to Billie Lourd, Fisher's daughter and fellow "Star Wars" alum, to "ask Billie how she was doing." CARRIE FISHER APPEARS IN FINAL 'STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER' TRAILER And while the scenes without Fisher were hard to film, Ridley said they'll be tough for viewers to watch, as well. "It's really sad. And it's going to be really sad," Ridley said. "But also, it's amazing that they have all this footage that is woven into the story in such a strange way." Ridley also let a hint slip about the movie's ending, which was emotional both on- and off-camera. "The scene was me being very sad," Ridley said, telling GQ that she didn't stop crying when the director called "cut." "Let's just say it was not hard to be upset in that scene," she added. | Australia Revokes Medical Evacuations for Offshore Detainees - The New York Times Posted: 04 Dec 2019 12:03 AM PST ![]() SYDNEY, Australia — Ten months after it was enacted, the Australian Parliament on Wednesday repealed a law that had allowed refugees and asylum seekers being held offshore to seek emergency medical care in Australia, a move that human rights advocates denounced as cruel and shameful. The vote was the latest example of the Australian government's hard-line stance on border protection, a policy it has maintained even as the United Nations has condemned it for detaining asylum seekers who were intercepted at sea indefinitely, on islands in the Pacific. "This was always a law that was about getting people here through the back door, and today we've closed that back door," Peter Dutton, the minister for home affairs, told reporters in Canberra, the capital. He added that it had undermined efforts to resettle refugees in the United States under a deal struck in 2016. The independent senator who cast the decisive vote to repeal the measure, Jacqui Lambie, said it would return decision-making power to lawmakers from doctors, whose approval was required for a medical transfer. "You can take advice from doctors, but doctors aren't elected. They aren't accountable to the public," Ms. Lambie told the Senate as the repeal passed, 37 to 35. Physicians' groups had strongly supported the medical evacuation law, saying it upheld fundamental rights to health care. The law, which was narrowly approved in February after a campaign by doctors, lawyers and rights advocates, allowed detainees on the islands to come to Australia for medical treatment or assessment if the transfers were approved by two doctors and the home affairs minister. About 170 people have filed applications to be transferred under the law, and more than 130 have been evacuated. About 500 are still being held in the Pacific island nations of Papua New Guinea and Nauru. Since the Australian government enacted a policy in 2013 barring anyone intercepted at sea from setting foot in Australia, more than 3,000 people have been held on the islands, where their living conditions have been described as dire. Twelve detainees have died since 2014. A coroner said in 2018 that a faster medical transfer could have prevented the death of Hamid Khazaei, an Iranian asylum seeker who suffered from a leg infection. There have been no deaths since the medical evacuation law was enacted. Dissenting lawmakers said the law's repeal would compound the detainees' despair. "The last shred of hope for people we know were suffering in those offshore hellholes was knowing they were getting medical care — and now that's gone," said Richard Di Natale, the leader of the Greens party. Detainees called the move a devastating blow. Shamindan Kanapathi, a Sri Lankan detainee in Papua New Guinea, said on Twitter that refugees' lives would "again be in the hands of politicians who have shown they will deliberately withhold medical treatment from people who desperately need it." Jana Favero, a director at the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, said that many of the people who had been evacuated suffered from multiple medical conditions, and that many more sick detainees remained. "This is not about left and right, it's about right and wrong," she said. "Yet again, the government is playing politics with people's lives." Ms. Lambie, the senator who cast the deciding vote, had initially expressed sympathy for the refugees' plight but ultimately voted for the repeal, saying she had negotiated a secret agreement with the conservative government on the issue. The government denied any such deal. New Zealand has offered to help resolve the crisis by accepting 150 refugees a year, though the Australian government has so far refused the proposal. On Wednesday, the Kurdish-Iranian writer Behrooz Boochani, a prominent former detainee, applied for asylum in New Zealand, Australian news media reported. Mr. Boochani was allowed to leave Papua New Guinea last month for a literary festival in New Zealand. Under a deal reached with President Barack Obama late in his second term, 654 refugees have been resettled in the United States, with 251 in the provisional approval stage, Mr. Dutton said. | Actress Anna Faris thankful after carbon monoxide scare - KSBY San Luis Obispo News Posted: 03 Dec 2019 11:31 PM PST ![]() Actress Anna Faris was spending Thanksgiving were her family at a home in Lake Tahoe, California, when the house filled with carbon monoxide gas. In a tweet thanking first responders, Faris said, "I'm not quite sure how to express gratitude to the north Lake Tahoe fire department- we were saved from carbon monoxide- it's a stupidly dramatic story but I'm feeling very fortunate." According to a press release by the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, members of Faris' family began feeling ill Thursday night, with symptoms akin to altitude sickness. After two of the 13 people in the house were treated at a hospital, the hospital relayed that the illnesses were related to carbon monoxide poisoning. Two additional patients were transported to the hospital, and nine others were treated at the scene. When fire crews evacuated Faris' family from the home, they measured carbon monoxide levels nearly 6 times the recommended indoor level for carbon monoxide, even after the home was ventilated. The home, which was said to be a short-term rental, was not equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. Fire Chief Mike Schwartz of the North Tahoe Fire Protection District stressed that those using short-term rentals should check for working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. "We are so thankful to report that this holiday disaster was averted," said Fire Chief Mike Schwartz. "Situational awareness is so important. Whether you are at home or traveling, it is important ensure that smoke and CO alarms are in working order anywhere you stay. It's not a bad idea to consider bringing your own alarm when you travel, just to be safe." Justin Boggs is a writer for the E.W. Scripps National Desk. Follow him on Twitter @jjboggs or on Facebook . | Morrison denies making deal with Lambie on medevac - 9News Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:48 PM PST The Prime Minister has denied making a "secret deal" with Jacqui Lambie in order to repeal the controversial medevac bill. Earlier today Senator Lambie tearfully announced she would support the repeal. The independent confirmed her support after a proposal she said she "can't discuss publicly because of national security concerns". "We've worked to an outcome I believe we both want, which is an outcome that our borders are secure, the boats have stopped and sick people aren't dying waiting for treatment," she said. "I can't let the boats start back up and I can't let refugees die, whether it's sinking into the ocean or waiting for a doctor and I am voting to make sure that neither of these things happen." Her statement is in direct contradiction to the Prime Minister's remarks. Speaking to reporters in Canberra, Scott Morrison denied the government had made any concessions to the Tasmanian crossbencher. "It means she is happy with the government's policies and the bill that was presented to the Senate, and she voted for it," Mr Morrison said this afternoon. He steered his answer to a criticism of Labor. "(Labor) sought to prise open the door on Australia's border protection regime because they've never believed deep down in the border protection policies that the government has put in place. When speaking about the medevac bill, Senator Lambie tore into media coverage of the policy. "The usual suspects in the newspapers can make a big song and dance about someone coming because they've got a cold or whatever it is they're talking about. "My rule throughout this whole process has been that if it's on the front page of the newspaper and it's anything to do with medevac, it's probably not worth reading. "Before medevac, someone presented to a nurse with the flu and 13 days later, he was dead." The vote passed by a narrow 37 to 35 votes. Labor's Senate leader Penny Wong lambasted the government for making its "secret deal" with Senator Lambie. "At the moment we have Cabinet ministers in here like lemmings to vote for a bill on a deal you haven't seen," Senator Wong said. "Members of the Cabinet of Australia are coming in to vote on a deal that's been done with Senator Jacqui Lambie, that they don't even know about." But Finance Minister Mathias Cormann denied making a secret deal. "The Labor Party thinks that whenever we are able to persuade anyone, the Labor Party just assumes there must be some secret deal," he said. "The Australian people understand very well what we have done in order to clean up the mess that Labor left behind at our borders. "The Australian people know perfectly well how we are ensuring that the boats don't start coming again." The medevac bill allowed asylum seekers being held in offshore detention to be moved to Australia for medical treatment if a doctor deems it appropriate. But only 19 of those were hospitalised upon arrival. The bill, which passed against the wishes of the government in February, was an embarrassing defeat for Scott Morrison. But its repeal marked a success for the government in the final days of Parliament for the year. As a consequence, the Home Affairs Minister will be able to stop sick asylum seekers from getting the treatment doctors say they need. The repeal has been criticised by global health charity Médecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders). "To now deny medical professionals from taking decisions in patients' best interests – and to effectively hand that power back to unqualified officials – entrenches dangerous precedents set in the last years and puts those most sick and vulnerable at risk," MSF Australia executive director Paul McPhun said. "Preventing access to medical care as a policy tool is unethical and harmful to vulnerable people and the entire medical profession." | Wild erase two-goal deficit to beat Panthers 4-2 - FOXSports.com Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:28 PM PST ![]() SUNRISE, Fla. — The Minnesota Wild had to come from behind to get another win and keep their point streak going. Carson Soucy scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period to rally the Wild to a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. More Wild coverageLuke Kunin, Mats Zuccarello and Jason Zucker also scored as Minnesota won its fourth straight and earned a point for the 10th straight game (7-0-3). Soucy broke a 2-2 tie after he backhanded the puck between Driedger's pads at 4:49 of the final period. The goal was the first game-winning goal for Soucy. "That was awesome," Soucy said. "To come from behind and just to help get the team a win. We've been doing a good job getting points lately, it's nice to contribute to that." Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 44 shots in his second NHL start. "I felt pretty good," Kahkonen said. "Obviously they had a couple of pretty good shots in the first period, the goals. But I think we as a team we stuck with it and in the second period we came out and started putting some pressure on them and then we got some chances and tied the game and went from there." Kahkonen narrowly missed an empty-net goal in the final minutes when he cleared the puck and it went just wide of the net. "The first thing is to get the puck out of the zone, but if you can shoot it in the net, obviously you can try and go for it. But missed it," Kahkonen said. Kunin got an empty-netter with 1:01 left. Kahkonen made his first start since a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 26. "The goalie played great and when the goalie plays great good things happen," coach Bruce Boudreau said. Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the Panthers, who have lost four of their past five games. Chris Driedger made 22 saves in his second straight start. "It's one of those games you look back after and you get what you deserve," Panthers coach Joel Quenneville said. "It's one of those tough losses, can't happen." The Panthers scored two goals in the first period but weren't able to build on the lead. "We just got away from the things we did in the first period. Started turning over pucks and that's the result," Barkov said. Trailing 2-0, the Wild closed within one when Zucker grabbed a loose puck, moved past defenseman Mike Hoffman and skated in on a breakaway, and backhanded the puck high into the net with 10:34 left in the second. Zuccarello tied it 2-all when his shot from the right circle went between Driedger's pads with 7:04 left in the middle period. Barkov gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on his power-play goal midway through the first as his shot from the left circle beat Kahkonen on the stick side. Huberdeau doubled the Panthers' lead when he fired a shot past Kahkonen with 5:34 left in the opening period. | Connor's goal and 2 assists help Jets beat struggling Stars - USA TODAY Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:18 PM PST ![]() WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Patrik Laine is growing fond of playing the Dallas Stars. Kyle Connor had a goal and two assists, and Laine was one of four others with a goal and an assist as the Winnipeg Jets handed Dallas its fourth straight loss, 5-1 on Tuesday night. "I wish we played 82 against those guys because I'd have a lot of goals," said Laine, who's scored 18 goals in 16 career games against Dallas. "It just seems like it goes in. Don't have any explanation." Nikolaj Ehlers, Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele also each had two points for Winnipeg, which is 4-1-0 in its past five games. Miro Heiskanen scored for the Stars, who are 0-3-1 since ending a seven-game winning streak. Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves for Winnipeg (17-10-1), which went 10-3-1 in November. Anton Khudobin stopped 25 shots for Dallas (15-11-3), which is two points behind the Jets in the Central Division. "That was our worst game of the year," Stars coach Jim Montgomery said. "And we never responded throughout the game and I apologized to Dobie (Khudobin) after the second (period) for the effort in front of him." Winnipeg led 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 after two. It looked like Laine got the Jets a goal 13 seconds into the game, but Dallas successfully challenged for offside to wipe it away. Ehlers made it 1-0 at 7:45 when he got the puck in the slot, spun around and beat Khudobin. "We came out hard, got the first goal after 13 seconds, but we kept going after," Ehlers said. "I don't think we gave them many chances and that's the way we've got to play." Winnipeg had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal after the first period. The three shots allowed was a season-low for the Jets. Khudobin started the second period by making two pad saves on breakaways by Scheifele and Ehlers, but then the bounces went against him. Connor notched his 11th of the season off a deflection at 7:56. Morrissey got his goal courtesy of Stars forward Mattias Janmark, who had the rebound go off his skate to make it 3-0 at 11:12. Heiskanen scored at 17:59 when he went in alone on Hellebuyck, but Laine countered with his eighth of the season just a minute and a half later to restore the Jets' three-goal lead. "They were better in everything tonight," Heiskanen said. "I don't know. It was a bad game. (Khudobin) was great today, but everyone else was bad." The shots on goal after the second were 21-14 for Winnipeg, which was another season-low allowed through two periods for the Jets. Scheifele made it 5-1 with a wrap-around goal at 13:59 of the third. Laine picked up an assist, giving him the team lead in points with 27. Scheifele has 26. NOTES: Winnipeg Blue Bombers players Nic Demski, Andrew Harris and Chris Streveler dropped a ceremonial puck to honor the CFL team for winning last month's Grey Cup. ... | People fall off ride at carnival in Thailand. Terrifying viral video - India Today Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:10 PM PST ![]() Five people had a narrow escape as they were thrown off their seats while enjoying an amusement ride at a carnival in Thailand. A video of the terrifying incident surfaced on social media and has swiftly gone viral. The one-minute video has been shared on Twitter by CGTN Official. An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed ride at the carnival. It was all good until five people fell off their seats on the steel platform of the ride underneath as the crowd shrieked in horror. It appears that the accident occurred after the safety bars came loose while the ride rotated towards the other side. CGTN reports that the operator turned off the machine immediately. Those who fell off their seats managed to get up from the steel platform and walked out of the premises of the fairground ride. One of them was a young boy who appeared to have hurt himself on the forehead. He wept profusely while his father consoled him. Watch the video here:
The operator, meanwhile, apologised after the accident and was quoted as saying by Daily Mail, "I was in charge at the control centre because my friend who also ran station went to the toilet and then had a break. I want to apologise to the people who were hurt and their family but I did not know much about the machine so I did not check anything before I started it." Police officials ordered that the ride will be temporarily closed and the owner's licenses will be checked. | Viral video documents Montgomery County dog rescue - WDBJ7 Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:10 PM PST ![]() MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)— Shadow, a Montgomery County dog rescued in a now-viral video, is lucky to be alive after getting stuck on a cliff in Blacksburg. WDBJ7 caught up with two of the animal control officers involved in the rescue. "We got a call from dispatch and they said they had an animal stuck on a cliff down at the rock quarry," said Deputy Maven Ogle. "Low and behold there was a dog about 50 feet on the side of a cliff." Ogle and Chief Ray Helmick of Montgomery County Animal Control are just two of the officials who came to Shadow's rescue when he got trapped at the Virginia Tech Quarry on Oct. 11. "I would assume he was traveling across the top of the rock quarry there, in loose rock and he slipped and fell down and luckily the ledge had caught him," Helmick said. Helmick said Shadow is an escape artist, and he managed to break loose from an enclosure at home. "If he hadn't stopped on that ledge, then he would have fallen all the way to the bottom and the outcome would have been a lot different," Ogle said. Animal control called Blacksburg Fire because they had the tools to assist in the rescue. Ogle was quick to capture the moment on his cell phone. "I thought this would be really neat to see a good outcome come to a bad situation," he said. Animal control said the rescue took over three hours, but was completely worth the effort. Firefighter Cliff Phillips was the first person to get Shadow from his original spot, then he guided him to Helmick who carried him to safety. "It was pretty awesome, it was amazing to be able to do that and get the dog to safety and back to his rightful owner," Helmick said. "It's a good feeling of accomplishment. You feel like your job is worth something," Ogle said. "A lot of times we have to see the bad, and this time we got to see the good. It was really refreshing." Shadow was a dog that was originally rescued from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. He is unharmed and was returned home safely to his family. Copyright 2019 WDBJ7. All rights reserved. | Manchester City scores three great goals in picturesque onslaught at Burnley (video) - Yahoo Sports Posted: 03 Dec 2019 09:58 PM PST Rodri scored Manchester City's third goal in the 4-1 win over Burnley. (Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images) You want skill? You want teamwork? You want power? Manchester City beat Burnley with all three. Gabriel Jesus scored two gorgeous goals and Rodri added a deafening third as City beat Burnley 4-1 on Tuesday at Turf Moor. Jesus' first strike arrived in the 24th minute, when he took possession wide left and peeled a curling shot that looked destined to sail wide into the upper-right corner: There was brief trepidation when it seemed like the goal came at the expense of Kevin de Bruyne, who'd been involved in a hard collision in the build-up. But de Bruyne was OK. So OK that he began the movement that led to the second goal, feeding wide for Bernardo Silva to play a left-footed cross back that Jesus chased down in the 50th minute: Rodri, City's club-record signing from the summer, put the game to bed in the 68th minute when he lashed home this booming combination of technique and force: Riyad Mahrez added his 50th career Premier League goal in the 87th minute, while Robbie Brady pulled one back for Burnley right before stoppage time. Even with the win, City still trails Liverpool by eight points and could be down 11 again if the Reds beat Everton in Wednesday's Merseyside derby. But City will be in hot pursuit of a third straight title the rest of the season, and impressive displays like Tuesday's are a loud reminder. | Posted: 03 Dec 2019 09:18 PM PST The Morrison government has repealed refugee medical transfer rules and restored its border protection regime amid uproar in the Senate over a "deal that dare not speak its name" with Tasmanian independent Jacqui Lambie. The Coalition gained support from four of the six crossbenchers in the Senate to repeal of the regime by 37 to 35 votes shortly after 11am on Wednesday, dismantling rules that were passed over government objections in February to restore the full discretion of federal ministers to accept or reject medical transfers to Australia. An emotional Senator Lambie declared she would vote for the repeal of medevac because she was satisfied with the conditions to be applied to asylum seekers wanting medical assistance. "I did not accept that we could just go back to the way things used to be and I asked myself how we'd have to do things differently," she said. Advertisement "I'm not being coy or silly when I say I genuinely can't say what I proposed. I know that's frustrating to people. And I get that. I don't like holding things back like this. But when I say I can't discuss it publicly due to national security concerns, I am being 100 per cent honest to you." Greens leader Richard Di Natale immediately accused the government of lying over the vote because Finance Minister Mathias Cormann claimed there was no "secret deal" while Senator Lambie said there was. An emotional Senator Lambie has voted with the government to repeal the medevac legislation.Credit:Alex Ellinghausen Senator Lambie had pushed for a shift in government policy on settling refugees in New Zealand but the government resisted the idea of accepting the New Zealand government's offer to take 150 refugees each year from Nauru and Papua New Guinea. Prime Minister Scott Morrison left room to resettle asylum seekers in third countries in a press conference after the vote. "The only undertaking we've given is to implement our policies – that's it," Mr Morrison said. "The government's policy is that we seek to resettle people who are on Nauru." Asked several questions about any commitment to Senator Lambie, the Prime Minister said: "She has an assurance the government will implement its policies." Asked if the New Zealand option could be on the table after settlements in the United States are exhausted, Mr Morrison said: "The government is always looking at ways in which it can resettle those who are on Nauru." Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said 654 refugees had been settled in the US from Nauru and Manus Island, while another 251 had gained "provisional approval" to travel to the US and 21 of those approved refugees had come to Australia under the medevac rules. Mr Dutton also rejected the argument from human rights groups that asylum seekers needed to come to Australia for treatment, arguing instead that asylum seekers were getting the help they needed in Papua New Guinea, Nauru or Taiwan. Mr Dutton said 51 contracted health professionals were providing services to 258 people on Nauru and Manus Island. The Coalition has 35 votes in the upper house and needs four of the six crossbenchers to gain the 39 votes required for a majority. It repealed medevac with support from Senator Lambie, independent Cory Bernardi and the two One Nation Senators, Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts. While the government avoided any show of jubilation after the vote, the outcome is a significant victory for Mr Morrison after last week's defeat on industrial relations law, a delay to religious discrimination law and weeks of questions over Energy Minister Angus Taylor. The government cleared the way for the final outcome with a series of procedural votes in the Senate that went ahead smoothly, with Senator Lambie never wavering in her support, guaranteeing the numbers against Labor, the Greens and Centre Alliance. Labor Senate leader Penny Wong accused the government of striking a "deal that dare not speak its name" and attacked the attempts to force a vote in the Senate on Wednesday without full disclosure of any agreement. The government leader in the upper house, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann, dismissed the attack by arguing Australians knew where the government stood on border protection. "There is no secret deal. There is no secret," he said. When Labor attempted to stall the process by moving that the bill could only be considered after the government produced the documents showing its deal with Senator Lambie, the government secured the numbers to press ahead toward a final vote. Senator Hanson argued for the restoration of the government regime by claiming asylum seekers were "swallowing stones" to claim the need for medical help in Australia so they could apply to stay. "How many of those people have actually been sent back? None. They are using it as a back door to get into the country," she said. "We will be supporting this bill very, very strongly." One Nation senators Malcolm Roberts and Pauline Hanson also voted to repeal the legislation.Credit:Alex Ellinghausen Speaking after the repeal, Senator Di Natale warned of the harm to asylum seekers. "Medical care is a fundamental human right, and today the government, along with Senator Jacqui Lambie, voted to remove that fundamental human right to people who are suffering," he said. "It is cruel, it's brutal, and it is a sign that this is a government that will do whatever it takes to keep this secretive and brutal regime under a shroud of secrecy." | Actress Anna Faris thankful after carbon monoxide scare - ABC Action News Posted: 03 Dec 2019 07:01 PM PST ![]() Actress Anna Faris was spending Thanksgiving were her family at a home in Lake Tahoe, California, when the house filled with carbon monoxide gas. | Comedian imitates toddler avoiding bedtime in viral video - TODAY Posted: 03 Dec 2019 06:40 PM PST Comedian Shaun Johnson doesn't have kids, but he nailed the hours-long struggle that accompanies bedtime. In a now-viral Instagram video, Johnson, 35, doubles as a toddler hell-bent on delaying sleep, and a mom who just wants to watch Netflix. The clip begins with a familiar question: "Why are you out of bed?" Trending stories, celebrity news and all the best of TODAY. "I was scared but then I wasn't very scared, but then I got scared again," the "toddler" explains. Later, he chalks it up to an itchy sock. At one point he has a query about Donald Trump, and then another about "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The excuses keep coming and each one is funnier than the next. Johnson, who lives in Utah, said he almost didn't share the sketch. "I'm not a parent so I wasn't sure if I got it right," he told TODAY Parents. But Johnson's imitation was spot-on, and moms and dads everywhere are responding with their own stories. "Most relatable video I've ever seen. Why is it that bedtime turns them into dehydrated world philosophers that need a hug?" wrote one person in the comments. "I just need a drink... I'm still hungry... I'm not tired... My tummy hurts... You didn't tuck me in right... I can't sleep... I heard a noise... I thought it was morning... Can't you just read me one more book... Can't you just sing me one more song... I thought I heard you say my name!!!" another weary parent wrote. Added another, "Paused this video for my son to slink down the stairs and tell me the skin on his fingernail hurt."
