Alex Ovechkin gets kneed, draws penalty, then scores PP goal to move to 3rd all-time - NBCSports.com Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:27 PM PST The Capitals (27-7-5) managed to beat one aggressive forechecking team on Friday, now they will have to play another as they travel to Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes (22-14-2). Catch all the action on NBC Sports Washington Plus starting with Caps FaceOff Live at 6 p.m. followed by Caps Pregame Live at 6:30 p.m. bringing you up to the 7 p.m. puck drop. Stick with NBC Sports Washington Plus for postgame coverage with Caps Postgame Live and Caps Overtime Live. Here is what you need to know for Saturday's game. About last nightBoth Washington and Carolina were in action on Friday. After Columbus managed to beat the Caps handily in two prior meetings, Ilya Samsonov was able to lead the Caps to their first win over the Blue Jackets this season, a 2-1 overtime thriller. Carl Hagelin scored his first goal of the season to tie the game in the third period and T.J. Oshie won it in overtime. The Hurricanes suffered a 5-3 loss on the road to the New York Rangers. Lucas Wallmark put Carolina up 1-0 early, but the Rangers scored four straight goals from there to take control of the game. Brett Pesce and Sebastian Aho brought the Hurricanes to within one, but New York added a fifth goal in the third period to hold on for the win. Who plays on defense? Both Michal Kempny and Radko Gudas were game-time decisions on Friday due to illness prompting the team to recall Christian Djoos from Hershey. Kempny did not play allowing Djoos to make his season debut. The question now is whether one day will be enough to get Kempny back into the lineup or if Djoos will play for a second straight night. Because of the back-to-back, there is no morning skate on Saturday so we will not know the lines until warmups for the game begin. Here is how the lines looked last night: Alex Ovechkin - Nicklas Backstrom - Tom Wilson Jonas Siegenthaler - John Carlson Scratches: Travis Boyd, Michal Kempny While that was how the lines started, it should be noted that Todd Reirden switched Kuznetsov with Eller and Kuznetsov helped the third line score the game-tying goal. We will see if he sticks with that or goes with his normal lines to start. Goalie matchupWith Samsonov and James Reimer getting the starts on Friday, it is expected that Braden Holtby and Petr Mrazek will start on Saturday. Here's a look at both netminders' stats this season. Holtby: 17-5-4, 2.87 GAA, .907 save percentage Keep on eye on playing timeWith Kempny out and the game going to overtime on Friday, Reirden was not able to manage the minutes of his top players the way he probably would have wanted in the first game of a back-to-back. Carlson played 28:06, Orlov played 26:36 and Jensen played 21:15. Ovechkin also logged a lot of minutes at 21:23. Dougie Hamilton was the only Carolina player to skate more than 21 minutes on Friday with 26:19. A similar styleOne of the reasons the Hurricanes were able to defeat Washington in the playoffs last season was due to an incredibly aggressive forecheck. John Tortorella was taking notes as that is what he has employed against the Caps in three meetings this season. While Washington has shown struggles against that type of style, the good news for Saturday is that the team will not have to adjust to playing against a drastically different style of play in the back-to-back. When last we metWashington last played the Hurricanes on Oct. 5 in the team's home opener. The Caps were handed their first loss of the season as Carolina battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game and Jake Gardiner scored the overtime winner. After not playing the Hurricanes for nearly three months, the Caps will be seeing a lot of their divisional rivals in the coming weeks. Saturday's game is the first of three meetings between these two teams between now and Jan. 13. Carolina will be Washington's first opponent in 2020 with a game in Raleigh on Jan. 3. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:05 PM PST In the wake of soured relations between Huawei and the US, life has been anything but easy for the Chinese tech giant. However, that doesn't mean that acceptance or desperation have settled in. Quite the contrary, Huawei and its subsidiaries and sister companies have really been doubling-down hard to make up for lost ground and still come out on top. Whether through impressive efforts into 5G infrastructure, expansion and contracts or the aggressive Western marketing for tech accessories like smart TVs and wearables, which haven't been affected by various trade bans quite as badly. And these are just some of the reactionary measures in the tech realm we are observing first-hand. Huawei's contingency plans stretch far and beyond and operate with impressive scope. Software effort has been huge in this process. And we're not just talking about the company's HarmonyOS, which still holds great promise as an Android alternative and beyond. Huawei's recent work on filling the Google-sized hole, so to say, in its current and future Android devices has been nothing short of admirable and impressive. Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) 4.0 beta was just revealed on December 27 at a Huawei Developer Groups (HDG) event. The beta version of what is essentially an alternative to Google's Mobile/Play Services will be coming shortly and it is packed full of new features, as well as major improvements to existing ones. Huawei account services, in-app payment services, and advertising services all get a major boost in functionality. And there are shiny new software packages to get excited about as well, like smart learning services and dynamic label manager services, as well as a new Safety Detect security detection service. The latter promises system integrity, application security, malicious URL and fake user detection. Definitely a nice and much needed effort into improving the company's stance and image with regard to privacy. Huawei also boasted that it's own Push Kit notification and communication service has seen a huge spike in users lately, with over 38,000 applications currently signed-up and a daily message volume exceeding 30 billion. These numbers appear to be more than just the product of organic growth, though. A few days ago, Huawei and Honor CEO spoke out about the company's ongoing software effort and particularly the goal to create Google app alternatives by the end of 2020. As part of said effort, both Huawei and Honor have apparently been reaching out to developers of the top 150 apps in India to both scout for talent and try to entice said parties into implementing HMS and getting on to the Huawei app store. The entire mission, allegedly, has a sizeable $1 billion fund backing. Guentzel's Power-Play Goal Lifts Penguins Past Predators 6-4 - The New York Times Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:57 PM PST PITTSBURGH — For the second straight night, the Pittsburgh Penguins scored three first-period goals against the Nashville Predators. This time, Pittsburgh had to gut it out after the Predators rallied to tie the score. Jake Guentzel's power-play goal with 1:03 remaining put Pittsburgh ahead for good as the Penguins beat the Predators 6-4 on Saturday night. "It's such a game of momentum and when you lose it, it's tough to get it back," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "I give our players a lot of credit. It wasn't the prettiest win, but we found a way." On the winning goal, Bryan Rust's initial point shot missed the net. Evgeni Malkin gathered the puck behind the net and gave it to Guentzel, who tucked it inside the left post for Pittsburgh's third power-play score. "(Malkin) gave it back to me and I tried to wrap it as fast as I could," Guentzel said. "It just barely went in." Rust scored twice, including an empty-netter, and added two assists as Pittsburgh won for the ninth time in 11 games. Alex Galchenyuk and Kris Letang scored power-play goals, while Dominik Kahun also scored for Pittsburgh, which has points in 13 of its last 16 against Nashville dating back to Oct. 21, 2010. Evgeni Malkin extended his point streak to five games with three assists and Matt Murray stopped 44 shots to win for the second time in nine starts. It was his first win since Dec. 7 at Detroit and his first home win since Nov. 9 against Chicago. "I don't think it's the game plan we drew up," Murray said. "It's an ugly one, but we grinded it out and that's what good teams do." Mikael Granlund's 100th career goal – and second of the game – at 8:56 of the third tied the score at 4-4 as Nashville rallied from a pair of three-goal deficits. Viktor Arvidsson got his third goal in three games, while Craig Smith also scored for the Predators, who lost their second straight after earning points in their previous five games. Roman Josi established a career-high seven-game point streak with two assists. "Terrible start by us," Josi said. "They dominated the first, and I thought we played a lot better in the second and third period." Pittsburgh and Nashville played the second straight of a home-and-home, back-to-back. The Penguins chased a Predators goaltender in the first period for the second straight night, this time with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. A day earlier, Pekka Rinne was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots. On Saturday, Juuse Saros gave up three goals on eight shots. Rinne stopped 25 of 27 shots in relief. "I thought the response in the second period was good," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "We generated a lot of shots and gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game." Pittsburgh scored twice in the first 1:05 of the game. Rust opened the scoring 32 seconds in with his 15th of the season and sixth goal in his last seven games. Kahun scored his ninth of the season just 33 seconds later on a behind-the-net feed from Galchenyuk. Letang scored a power-play goal, a slap shot from the right point at 9:04 of the first to give Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead. Arvidsson got Nashville on the board with his ninth of the year, a power-play goal at 4:07 of the second period. But Galchenyuk answered with his second goal in two games, a power-play score at 8:02, as Pittsburgh regained its three-goal lead. The Penguins' three-goal lead didn't last. Nashville scored twice in the final 3:57 of the second period and again in the third, but Pittsburgh's late power-play goal was the difference. "I liked our resilience and our resolve," Sullivan said. "We didn't crumble. We kept competing." NOTES: F Patric Hornqvist returned to the lineup for Pittsburgh after missing 10 games with a lower-body injury. ... Letang's 40th career power-play goal tied Paul Coffey for most by a Penguins defenseman. ... Guentzel continued a five-game home point streak with his 100th career assist. ... Springfield Salvation Army only half way to $1 million goal - KY3 Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:57 PM PST SPRINGFIELD,Mo. (KY3) -- Salvation Army organizations across the country have fallen short of their red kettle fundraising goals. In Springfield, the bell ringers and red kettles are gone, but the Salvation Army is only about half way to their goal. "We're grateful for the generosity of Springfield, but we're short," said Jan Millington, the chairman of the advisory board. The organization is hoping to hit $1 million by the end of January. So far, they've raised a just over $552,000. The organization fell short of its goal last year and if that happens again it will have to make some cuts. "We'll just have to have fewer programs," Millington said. "There's only so much money, you know how a budget is, if we don't reach our goal we will have to cut some of our services." She said the organization has had a lot of trouble in the past because people don't carry a lot of change or cash on them. "So we've kind of had to come up to the technology era and have some additional ways to donate," Millington said. You can still donate via mail, but the organization also offers an online donation form and a text form. "[Text] 24-365," she said. "I remember it now because it's 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and then you type in SAL and they will send you a link." Millington said the money raised this time of year is used to cover every program the organization has for the next year. "We serve over 200 meals every single day, hot meals to folks," she said. "Harbor House can house up to 30 men who are trying to get their feet back on the ground [and] we also have the family enrichment center where there are up to 8 apartments for families." The deadline for donations being counted in their goal is January 31. Click HERE to visit the Salvation Army donation site. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:24 PM PST Kim Gura wasn't afraid to speak his mind about the current state of award shows at the 2019 SBS Entertainment Awards. On December 28, SBS held its annual year-end award ceremony, with Kim Sung Joo, Park Na Rae, and Jo Jung Shik serving as this year's MCs. The eight nominees for the 2019 Daesang (Grand Prize)—which ultimately went to Yoo Jae Suk for his work on "Running Man"—were Shin Dong Yup, Baek Jong Won, Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Gura, Kim Byung Man, Kim Jong Kook, Lee Seung Gi, and Seo Jang Hoon. At one point during the show, host Kim Sung Joo stopped by Kim Gura's seat to interview him about his nomination for the Daesang. In a moment of self-deprecating honesty, Kim Gura remarked, "To be honest, I myself am having a hard time accepting that I'm a Daesang nominee, so I worry whether the viewers will be able to accept it." A surprised Kim Sung Joo responded, "But many people are rooting for you," and Kim Gura replied, "Honestly, it seems like the network threw eight people in because they wanted an assortment [of nominees]." "I'm delighted [to be nominated]," continued the comedian, "but starting this year, my mood has changed somewhat. I can't put on a false expression. Earlier, I went up to receive the Excellence in Programming Award for 'Same Bed, Different Dreams,' but to be honest, I shouldn't have been the one receiving the award. It's the married couples and the production staff that work hardest on our program, so I [felt uncomfortable] going up to receive the award. Well, I do work hard in the studio, but… anyway, I've been sitting here with complicated feelings for the past two hours and a half." He added, "It's really an honor just to be sitting here." Then, when Kim Sung Joo asked him to share his thoughts on who would win the Daesang that night, Kim Gura took the opportunity to instead voice his opinion on how entertainment award ceremonies needed to change. "I think these entertainment award ceremonies need to change up the scene," he declared, before shocking Kim Sung Joo by continuing, "Honestly, the ratings for the 2019 KBS Entertainment Awards a few days ago weren't so great." "Since there are so many nationally beloved programs that have been running for 5 or 10 years, the same shows are now receiving awards year after year in a rotating format," said Kim Gura. "So in my opinion, from now on, they should leave out useless people like me and nominate only people [who have a real shot at the award], like Baek Jong Won, Yoo Jae Suk, and Shin Dong Yup. Keeping it to only three people would make things more exciting and suspenseful. Why are Seo Jang Hoon and I sitting here? Kim Jong Kook, too." He went on, "[Entertainment award ceremonies] should no longer run things this way, nominating eight people for the Daesang and then filling up one or two hours with their individual skills instead of any content. Okay? From now on, let's be accurate. The directors of the three broadcast networks [KBS, MBC, and SBS] should get together and have one network air [one entertainment awards ceremony for that year] each year. I know you do this because of the ads, but please don't do this anymore. It's time for things to change." As the startled Kim Sung Joo attempted to stop him, he continued, "That's what I think. I bet many viewers will agree with me and say, 'For the first time in a long while, Kim Gura is saying something right.'"
Kim Gura ended his bold remarks to the cheers of the crowd, with many of his fellow attendees rising to give him a standing ovation.

Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer compares Fred to Paul Scholes - Metro.co.uk Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:54 PM PST Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has paid Fred the highest of compliments by comparing him to Manchester United Paul Scholes…only quicker. The Brazilian midfielder has been in good form of late and played well again in the 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League on Saturday night. The 26-year-old was a commanding presence in midfield and has steadied the ship in that department with Paul Pogba missing from the starting XI since September through injury. Scholes was on pundit duty for BT Sport during the match and he suggested to Solskjaer that it was Fred's best performance in a Manchester United shirt, which led to the high praise. 'I think Fred's improved a lot and maybe two or three months ago people wouldn't have said Burnley away would be a game for Fred, but he's developed a lot,' said the Norwegian. Advertisement Advertisement 'He's confident and he's a tenacious little midfielder, like you to be fair, but a little bit quicker over the ground maybe.' Before we have even reached January, Fred has started as many Premier League games this season as he did last, but it might be a stretch to put him in the same category as Scholes just yet. With Pogba's continued absence and Scott McTominay also now sidelined through injury, Nemanja Matic made only his third Premier League start of the season alongside Fred. The 31-year-old had not started in the league since September but Solskjaer was also very pleased with his performance in the win over the Clarets. 'Nemanja as well,' continued Solskjaer. 'He's got experience and he helped us a lot.' The three points at Turf Moor moved United up to fifth in the Premier League and only one point behind Chelsea in fourth spot in the table. They appear to have recovered from the woeful performance at Watford last week, where they lost 2-0, having bounced back with back-to-back wins since then. 'We want to keep the momentum going,' said Solskjaer. 'Two wins now and good response after the disappointing game against Watford. Advertisement Advertisement 'We have not lost a game straight after we have lost another one so happy with that. Good response from the players, they are learning.' The Red Devils are back in action on New Year's Day when they travel to north London to take on Arsenal at the Emirates. Blake McLaughlin's late goal sends Gophers past Bemidji State - Minneapolis Star Tribune Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:27 PM PST Sitting with a sub-.500 record through the season's first half, the Gophers men's hockey team was looking for a spark to turn things around Saturday night. It got one in the Mariucci Classic when Blake McLaughlin intercepted a pass and scored with 2:50 left in the third period for the winning goal in a 5-2 victory over Bemidji State. Scott Reedy and Sammy Walker added empty net goals with 1:17 and 5 seconds left, respectively. The Gophers (6-9-4) will face St. Cloud State, a surprising 7-2 winner over No. 2 Minnesota State Mankato, in Sunday's 7 p.m. championship game at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Bemidji State and Minnesota State meet for third place at 4 p.m. Sunday's final will mark the first time Gophers coach Bob Motzko faces St. Cloud State, the team he coached from 2005-18 before being hired by Minnesota. Saturday's victory was the 300th of Motzko's career. Wearing gold sweaters with "Wooger" every player's name plate in honor of the former Minnesota coach who died at 75 on Dec. 14, the Gophers also got a goal from Garrett Wait and 27 saves from goalie Jack LaFontaine. Bemidji State (8-6-3) struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ross Armour at 13:33 of the first. After a faceoff win, defenseman put a shot from the point on net, with Armour pounding home the rebound after LaFontaine's pad save. The Gophers answered to tie it 1-1 at 16:49 of the first when Reedy deflected Tyler Nanne's shot from the point past Driscoll. The play started when Jack Perbix won a puck battle in the corner to keep possession in the Beavers zone and got the puck to Jonny Sorenson, who passed to Nanne. In the second period, Owen Sillinger intercepted a pass by McLaughlin near the Gophers blue line, raced down the ice on a breakaway and beat LaFontaine at 5:20 for a short-handed goal for a 2-1 Beavers lead. The Beavers killed the rest of the penalty, getting a big stop when defenseman Tommy Muck swept the puck out of the crease with Driscoll down. Guentzel's power-play goal lifts Penguins past Predators 6-4 - USA TODAY Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:57 PM PST PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jake Guentzel's power-play goal with 1:03 remaining helped the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Nashville Predators 6-4 on Saturday night. Bryan Rust's initial point shot missed the net. Evgeni Malkin gathered the puck behind the net and gave it to Guentzel, who tucked it inside the left post for the winning goal. Rust scored twice, including an empty-netter, and added two assists as Pittsburgh won for the ninth time in 11 games. Alex Galchenyuk and Kris Letang scored power-play goals, while Dominik Kahun also scored for Pittsburgh, which has points in 13 of its last 16 against Nashville dating back to Oct. 21, 2010. Evgeni Malkin continued a five-game point streak with three assists and Matt Murray stopped 44 shots to win for the second time in nine starts. It was his first win since Dec. 7 at Detroit and his first home win since Nov. 9 against Chicago. Mikael Granlund's 100th career goal – and second of the game – at 8:56 of the third tied the score at 4-4 as Nashville rallied from a pair of three-goal deficits. Viktor Arvidsson got his third goal in as many games, while Craig Smith also scored for the Predators, who lost their second straight after earning points in their previous five games. Roman Josi established a career-high seven-game point streak with two assists. Pittsburgh and Nashville played the second straight of a home-and-home, back-to-back. Pittsburgh scored twice in the first 1:05 of the game. Smith and Granlund scored goals in the final 3:57 of the second period to make it a 4-3 game entering the third. Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Marcus Rashford's fine form - Metro.co.uk Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:54 PM PST Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford as he continued his superb goal-scoring form in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday night. Rashford netted his 16th goal of the season in all competitions in the Premier League clash at Turf Moor, sealing a victory which took United up to fifth in the table. It is the England international's fifth goal in his last six league games and Solskjaer is thrilled with how the youngster is developing into a potent force up front for United. The Norwegian is keen to remind people that Rashford is just 22-years-old, but has already developed into a leader at Old Trafford. 'He's a kid that you want to help, he's got everything physically, he's got the right mentality and attitude and he's one of our own,' said Solskjaer of Rashford. 'He's just going to be better and better, he's still only 22 so he'll grow and he's got the best years ahead of him. Advertisement Advertisement 'This season he's been a leader, he's really shown his maturity.' Although we are not even into January, this has already been Rashford's best goal-scoring season in the Premier League, with 12 so far already outstripping his best haul of 10. The Red Devils are starting to find some consistency this season, with just one defeat in their last nine Premier League contests and much of that has been thanks to the consistency in front of goal of Rashford and Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has also found his shooting boots of late, netting five times in his last seven matches, including scoring the opener against Burnley. Between them Rashford and Martial have scored 19 of the 32 goals United have managed in the Premier League so far this season. Rashford said of Martial after the win at Burnley: 'He's been brilliant today and for a forward there's nothing better than scoring goals and hopefully he can keep scoring goals, keep the confidence high and we can continue like that until the end of the season.' They will return to action on New Year's Day with a trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal. Hoffman has goal and 2 assists, Panthers beat Red Wings 4-3 - USA TODAY Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:27 PM PST SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Mike Hoffman had a goal and two assists and the Florida Panthers overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Saturday night. Evgenii Dadonov, Brett Connolly, Dominic Toninato and Anton Stralman also scored to help the Panthers win for the fourth time in five games. Chris Driedger made 35 saves in his fourth NHL start to improve to 3-1-0. Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist for Detroit, and Darren Helm, Frans Nielsen and Luke Glendening also scored. The Red Wings have lost five in a row and are 2-15-2 their last 19. Jimmy Howard played his second game after a 10-game injury absence, stopped 25 shots. Florida scored on a power play 2:46 into the first period, with Huberdeau feeding Dadonov in the slot for the Russian winger's 14th goal of the season. Detroit grabbed the lead with quick goals 38 seconds apart. Helm scored on a breakaway after Hoffman's turnover. The left wing skated in and beat Driedger for his sixth goal at 9:29. Larkin pounced on a pass from linemate Andreas Athanasiou and netted his ninth at 10:07. Patrik Nemeth's blocked shot on an early second-period Florida power play led to Nielsen's first goal in 34 games — a short-handed score — 46 seconds in to make it 3-1, but Connolly answered on the same man advantage by ripping home his 15th at 1:58. Hoffman tied it 3 at 6:39 with his 13th after putting in a rebound of Brian Boyle's between-the-legs shot. Toninato's steal of Valtteri Filppula's pass and ensuing goal 9 seconds later put the Panthers up 4-3. Florida's penalty-kill units stymied a Detroit power play midway through the third, and Stralman fired home his fourth goal on a pass from Hoffman at 13:24. Glendening scored with 4:11 remaining and Howard pulled for the extra skater. NOTES: Coach Jeff Blashill said Detroit will be without Anthony Mantha (rib cage) a minimum of four weeks. Detroit will host Florida in the final two meetings this season – on Jan. 18 and March 16. ... 2019-12-28 21:00:00Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMiI2h0dHBzOi8vYnVuc2h1bi5qcC9hcnRpY2xlcy8tLzIxNjA10gElaHR0cHM6Ly9idW5zaHVuLmpwL2FydGljbGVzL2FtcC8yMTYwNQ?oc=5 |

Ducks’ 3-Goal Barrage in 2nd Leads to 4-3 Win Over Vegas - NBC Southern California Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:27 AM PST The Vegas Golden Knights' dramatic NHL entry in 2017 coincided with the Anaheim Ducks' decline from several outstanding years. The expansion club immediately dethroned Anaheim as Pacific Division champions and went on to win eight of the clubs' first nine meetings. With a three-goal barrage Friday night, the Ducks answered back a bit. Cam Fowler had a goal and an assist while the Ducks scored three goals in 1:37 midway through the second period of a 4-3 victory over the Golden Knights. Adam Henrique and Max Comtois also scored and Jakob Silfverberg had two assists during the decisive stretch for the Ducks in both teams' first game back from the Christmas break. Anaheim is struggling to break out of the division cellar and struggling to score goals again this season, but the Ducks were proud of beating the upstart opponent that has dominated them. "You know that in the back of your mind, so you want to turn that, really," Henrique said. "I thought we played good from start to finish. They got a couple at the end there, but it was a good team win for us." Devin Shore added a third-period goal and John Gibson made 26 saves for Anaheim. Fowler's Ducks were the five-time division champions when the Golden Knights took charge of the Pacific on the way to the 2018 Stanley Cup Final as an expansion club. "They've had a lot of early success in this league, and we know that we haven't fared that well against them," Fowler said. "I know me personally, I was thinking about the last time we faced them (a 5-2 loss at Vegas on Oct. 27), and it was probably our worst performance of the year. Just got embarrassed and outworked, so we wanted to make amends for that tonight." Anaheim trailed 1-0 before capitalizing on a two-man advantage and the ensuing momentum to match the third-fastest three-goal spree in franchise history. Nate Schmidt had two late goals, while Jonathan Marchessault also scored and Malcolm Subban stopped 14 shots for the Golden Knights. Vegas had been perfect in four previous trips to Honda Center along with its healthy contingent of fans traveling four hours down the I-15. The Knights almost rallied when Schmidt scored twice in the final 1:52. After snapping his personal 21-game goal drought, the defenseman added his second with 5.7 seconds left. It was too late to stop first-place Vegas from losing two straight in regulation for the first time since Nov. 25. "It ended up being a 2 1/2-minute span that cost us the game," Vegas forward Reilly Smith said. "They caught a couple of fortunate bounces, and they went in the back of the net." After a scoreless first period, William Karlsson took advantage of a defensive mistake and sprung Marchessault for an unimpeded breakaway. His shot slipped barely inside the top corner above Gibson's glove hand and rattled home for his 13th goal of the season. The Ducks' offense awoke during a two-man advantage for 46 seconds in the second period. Henrique scored late in the 5-on-3 sequence, and Fowler ripped home a power-play goal 83 seconds later. Just 14 seconds after that, the 20-year-old Comtois made an exceptional play in front of the net to tip a long shot by Jacob Larsson for his sixth career NHL goal. "There was still half the game left," Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. "We could have come back and battled back, and just couldn't find a way." Shore's goal gave him 100 career points. NOTES: The Ducks got their two-man advantage when captain Ryan Getzlaf was accidentally high-sticked in the face by Tomas Nosek. Getzlaf is among the roughly 25 remaining NHL players who don't wear visors, and he went to the dressing room for help with his bloodied face. He returned later in the period. Visors have been mandatory for new players since the start of the 2013-14 season, but veterans who didn't wear a visor before the change are allowed to keep them off. ... Rickard Rakell missed his second straight game for Anaheim after incurring an upper-body injury before the break, but both Getzlaf and Silfverberg returned after missing games with apparent cases of the flu. ... The Ducks scored three goals in 51 seconds and three goals in 96 seconds in late 2010. ... The Ducks visit Vegas for a matinee on New Year's Eve. UP NEXT Golden Knights: Host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Ducks: Host the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. Apink gets apology from KBS Song Festival for cutting off performance - Metro.co.uk Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:54 AM PST KBS has issued an official apology to Apink after their performance was cut off at the 2019 Gayo Daechukje. The My My singers were one of the acts on the star-studded bill for the KBS Song Festival on 27 December, and were slaying the crowd with their song %% (Eung Eung). Chorong, Bomi, Eunji, Naeun, Namjoo and Hayoung had choreographed an ending to their performance which involved them walking upstage to a male backing dancer. However, KBS cut off their music and cut to an ad break – and the band was seeing looking confused on stage before walking off. Apink fans watching the show from home were furious, tweeting #JusticeForApink as they demanded answers from the network.
Advertisement Advertisement Now, head producer of the song festival Kwon Yong Taek has explained what happened at the Gayo Daechukje. He said in a statement: 'We sincerely apologise to Apink and their fans for Apink's performance not being able to end as planned during 2019 KBS Song Festival yesterday. 'Our mistake did not allow the performance, that the members prepared for their fans and worked hard day and night for despite their busy schedules, to shine properly, and we are not sure how to console the hurt that the members and fans are experiencing as a result. We apologise to the staff of Apink as well, who worked hard to create a great stage. 'Yesterday, camera rehearsals were delayed by over an hour as we faced issues with the video equipment that was suspended from the ceiling. It was an unfortunate but necessary delay for safety reasons, but at the request from the event management team who said that we could not delay audience admissions into the venue any longer, I ordered for a portion of the camera rehearsals to be omitted.' He added: 'This was an error of our staff during the live show, but it was an accident that would not have happened if we had better prepared for the show, so I take full responsibility for this. We will seriously look over the production issues that took place, and place measures to ensure that it does not happen again. Advertisement Advertisement 'Once again, we bow our heads and apologise to Apink and their fans.' Play M Entertainment also issued a statement on the 'unfortunate incident', reading: 'As soon as our artists came down from the stage, our agency spoke with the KBS staff on how the incident had occurred, and the KBS staff immediately expressed their apologies to the members. The KBS staff has since released an official apology this afternoon. 'Regardless of how it happened, our agency wished to express our regret that fans were not able to see the whole performance that was planned. As we know better than anyone the hard work, care, and sweat our artists put in for the year-end performance, our regret grows even more. 'We wish to thank fans for your concern and worry. We also wish to express our gratitude once more for the unending love you have given this year, and we will work hard to make sure we come out stronger from this.' Naeun was the first member to speak out on the incident, taking to Instagram to speak to the fans. She wrote: 'So many upsetting things have happened at the end of this year. I'm posting this because I feel upset and apologetic that we weren't able to show you the full performance that we worked hard to prepare. Advertisement 'To the Apink members and FreeMind, who toiled away while preparing [this performance], and to our staff, who toiled away from the early morning—no, from yesterday's pre-recording—you all worked hard. Thank you to our Pandas [Apink's fandom] who waited for our performance and cheered us on. As we had all gathered to wrap up the end of the year in a joyful way, to celebrate that we we had all worked hard and done a great job [this year], it was an event for which all the artists worked really hard to prepare. 'I hope that in the future, it will be a fair and safe environment in which the performers can do a satisfactory job. Thank you to the many people who are always cheering on Apink.' Devils Defense Scores Own Goal In OT, Hand Gift Win To Maple Leafs - CBS New York Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:27 AM PST NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Devils defenseman Damon Severson backhanded the puck into his own net in overtime, gifting the Toronto Maple Leafs a 5-4 win over New Jersey on Friday night for their season-best sixth straight victory. Severson got the puck after Toronto's William Nylander lost control of it driving toward New Jersey's net. The 25-year-old Severson inadvertently beat goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood while trying to clear the puck out of danger. Nylander was credited with the goal. Zach Hyman, Ilya Mikheyev, Kasperi Kapanen and John Tavares scored for Toronto. Michael Hutchinson had 24 saves in winning his second straight start. Mikheyev left the ice in the third period after being cut on his wrist by Jack Hughes' skate. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, the Maple Leafs said. Nico Hischier, Nitita Gusev, Kyle Palmieri and Jesper Bratt tallied for New Jersey, and Blackwood made 32 saves. Tavares tied it at 4 with 11:45 left in the third period with a tap-in power-play goal from Blackwood's crease. Nylander made the pass to set it up. The teams combined for seven goals during a wide-open first 40 minutes. Palmieri and Bratt got the last two a little more than three minutes apart to give the Devils a 4-3 lead. Palmieri scored his 15th of the season on a point-blank shot shortly after lifting Tyson Barrie's stick to take the puck and tie it at 3. Palmieri jumped on a center-ice turnover by Kapanen to set up the go-ahead goal by Bratt at 10:11. Hyman and Mikheyev scored 19 seconds apart late in the first period to give the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead. With the Devils enjoying a two-man advantage, Gusev tied it at 1:42 of the second period. Kapanen put Toronto ahead with a top-shelf shot at 5:18, but the Devils countered with two over the next five minutes for their second lead. Hischier had scored the game's first goal early. NOTES: The teams will play two more times this season, both in Toronto (Jan. 14, Mar. 17). Toronto had 19 shots in the first period. It was still seven shy of its season high for a period, which it has done twice. UP NEXT: The Devils visit Ottawa Sunday night. (© Copyright 2019 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.
