| Beaulieu’s 1st Goal of Season Lifts Jets Over Blackhawks 3-2 - NBC Chicago Posted: 16 Feb 2020 09:25 PM PST  Nathan Beaulieu's first goal of the season early in the third period sent the Winnipeg Jets past the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Sunday night. Playing in his 27th game of an injury-riddled season, the defenseman fired a one-timer from the point that hit a Chicago player and got by goalie Corey Crawford to give the Jets a 3-2 lead. Beaulieu also had an assist. Mason Appleton had a goal and an assist and Jack Roslovic also scored for Winnipeg, which was coming off two straight losses. Dmitry Kulikov added a pair of assists. Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves for the Jets (30-25-5), who were playing the fifth game of a six-game homestand (3-2-0). Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist and Ryan Carpenter also scored for Chicago, which was coming off an 8-4 win in Calgary on Saturday night. Crawford stopped 35 shots for Chicago (26-25-8), which completed a 1-4-0 road trip. The Blackhawks led 1-0 after the first period. Carpenter scored his third goal of the season after Kane sent a sharp-angled backhand pass to the front of the net and Carpenter redirected the puck past Hellebuyck at 15:44. The win means Liverpool will be Premier League champions with just five more league wins. | NBA All-Star Game opens with emotional tribute to Kobe Bryant - USA TODAY Posted: 16 Feb 2020 07:56 PM PST  CHICAGO — Even as he stood before 24 of the NBA's best players, Magic Johnson made a declaration about Kobe Bryant that made him unique even among those All-Stars. "We'll never see another basketball player quite like Kobe," Johnson told the sold-out crowd at the United Center before Sunday's NBA All-Star game. Moments later, those fans chanted "KO-BE, KO-BE!" which has become the soundtrack at Los Angeles Lakers home games and when legions of fans around the world have mourned his recent death. The NBA continued offering tributes to Bryant, who died along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash three weeks ago Sunday. After mourning the recent deaths of Bryant and former NBA Commissioner David Stern, Johnson held a moment of silence for the amount of seconds that matched Bryant's first jersey number (eight). Then, fans belted out more "KO-BE!" chants. "How ironic is it that Kobe has worked out with a lot of these guys or given them great advice," Johnson said as he stared at the 24 All-Stars. "He was always there for all of us in one way or another." After Johnson spoke, Jennifer Hudson sang "For All We Know," which was first performed by Nat King Cole. Shortly afterward, Common rapped the starting lineup introductions for Team LeBron and Team Giannis. Common also made several references to Bryant, including "24 hours a day, you put in the work; forget the salary/being in Chicago, you can possess that 'Mamba Mentality.' " Team LeBron wore Gianna's No. 2, while Team Giannis wore Bryant's No. 24. Both teams wore jersey patches with nine stars, representing those who died in the crash, including Kobe and Gianna Bryant; John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli; Sarah and Payton Chester; Christina Mauser; and Ara Zobayan. After Team LeBron and Team Giannis split the first two quarters, Chance the Rapper performed at halftime. The arena scoreboard played a Bryant video tribute along with the message "We thank you, Kobe." S 0.23% to merge, removing another hurdle between the cellphone carriers and their long-planned combination. "After a thorough analysis, New York has decided not to move forward with an appeal in this case," Ms. James said in a statement released Sunday. "Instead, we hope to work with all the parties to ensure that consumers get the best pricing and service possible, that networks are built out throughout our state, and that good-paying jobs are created here in New York." A federal judge in Manhattan on Tuesday ruled in favor of the companies, which agreed nearly two years ago to a $26 billion all-stock combination that would create a single wireless company with a customer base rivaling AT&T Inc. T -0.16% and Verizon Communications Inc. New York and California led a coalition of states that sued in June to block the deal. The states argued that leaving the country with three nationwide cellular network operators would hurt consumers, especially those with low-cost rate plans. The U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission later signed off on the merger subject to certain conditions. But a core group of states remained unconvinced. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Tuesday that the state coalition was "prepared to fight as long as necessary to protect innovation and competitive costs" but stopped short of vowing to appeal the verdict. A spokeswoman for Mr. Becerra said the state is still reviewing its options. Both companies face more obstacles before they can close the deal. California's independent public utilities commission and another U.S. district court in Washington are still reviewing the merger. The companies are also negotiating changes to a merger agreement originally signed in late April 2018. T-Mobile operating chief Mike Sievert, who is slated to take over as chief executive after longtime CEO John Legere steps down, said the merger could close as early as April 1. The game-show app, which at its peak in early 2018 had more than 2 million daily users, officially shut down Friday. CNN Business obtained an email from CEO Rus Yusupov telling employees that "lead investors are no longer willing to fund the company, and so effective today, HQ will cease operations and move to dissolution." Yusupov added that a banker had been hired to find new investors, and a sale had been proposed but fallen through. All 25 employees were laid off, and the game signed off with a profane, drunken finale on Friday. "Someone hire me!" co-host Anna Roisman said at one point during the show. "I'm f**king talented!" On Saturday, former host Scott Rogowsky — known as "Quiz Daddy" to HQ Trivia players and long the public face of the app — ripped the company's management. Prime Minister Hun Sen greeted disembarking passengers in person last week, and the cruise line, Holland America, was able to charter flights to get passengers home. Staudenmaier's homebound flight had been scheduled for Saturday. She and other passengers took a charter flight from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, which is more than 100 miles inland, without trouble. But when they arrived in the capital, she said, "we were greeted with chaos." Check-ins dragged on, and little information was available about when the flight would actually depart. Then came the announcement of a positive coronavirus test, accompanied by news that the flight was delayed – and then canceled. Other flights chartered by Holland America were not allowed to land. Cruise line officials distributed letters to passengers in Phnom Penh on Sunday informing them that travel plans were, for now, up in the air. "It will be impossible for us to plan any travel arrangement from Phnom Penh today for you to complete your homeward journey," said a copy of the letter provided by Staudenmaier. | 2020 NBA All-Star Game: How to watch, Kobe Bryant tributes, format changes - USA TODAY Posted: 16 Feb 2020 04:26 PM PST CHICAGO -- The 69th annual NBA All-Star Game is Sunday night and all eyes will be on Team LeBron, Team Giannis and how the league pays its respects to Kobe Bryant. Team captains LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks drafted their teams from a pool of players voted into the game by fans, media and players or selected as reserves by the NBA's coaches. There are plenty of marquee names to keep fans glued to the action, but there are some notable absences, including Stephen Curry (broken hand), Kyrie Irving (knee) and Kevin Durant (Achilles). Damian Lillard was voted onto the team, but pulled out because of a strained groin. Devin Booker will take his spot. Tickets are in high demand and are the priciest in a decade. Kobe tributesThere have been reminders of four-time All-Star Game MVP Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash Jan. 26, everywhere this weekend. Sunday's game will be no different. Commissioner Adam Silver announced Saturday that the game's MVP award would be renamed the Kobe Bryant MVP Award. There also are some special touches planned before and during the game to honor Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and the seven friends aboard who also died. The NBA has not announced its entire plan, but here's what we know: ►Team LeBron will wear No. 2 in honor of Gianna and Team Giannis will wear No. 24 in honor of Kobe. ►Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson, a Chicago native, will perform a tribute to the victims of the crash before player introductions.
