Leopard climbs tree with its prey. Watch crazy viral video - India Today

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 11:06 PM PDT

A video of a leopard climbing a tree with its prey has gone crazy viral on social media after it was made available on Twitter by Parveen Kaswan. The Indian Forest Service officer had shared the video on March 28 but on Wednesday though, he posted a clip of the same incident again, shot from a different angle. This time, it is even better.

In the 43-second clip, the leopard is seen climbing a tree with a dead deer hanging from its mouth. The clip, Kaswan informed in his post, was shot at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

"You saw that leopard climbing a straight tree with huge kill which I shared. This is same from another angle. Shot at Kruger National Park on March 24 at 6pm. This one is equally amazing," Kaswan said in his post.

Watch the video here:

This particular clip, so far, has been viewed over 18,000 times and garnered 1400 likes.

Netizens were stunned after watching the video and wrote about it in the comments section. "That strength and power though," a user said in the comments section. "My God! That power and energy level," another comment read.

See the comments here:

Kaswan, on March 28, had shared a different angle of the aforementioned video, and captioned it as, "Unbelievable climb. Do you know a #leopard can take three times heavy prey and can climb a straight tree. In their territory, many a time, you can see leftover on trees also. Close shot."

Incredible, right?

WHO chief addresses death threats, racist insults: 'I don't give a damn' - CNBC

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:58 PM PDT

The leader of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said Wednesday he's received death threats and racist insults while running the global efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

"I can tell you personal attacks that have been going on for more than two, three months. Abuses, or racist comments, giving me names, black or Negro. I'm proud of being black, proud of being Negro," he told reporters on a conference call from the organization's Geneva headquarters on Wednesday. "I don't care, to be honest ... even death threats. I don't give a damn."

Tedros was responding to a question about whether criticism from world leaders such as President Donald Trump in the midst of a global pandemic makes it more difficult to operate the WHO. Tedros commented specifically on insults that he said came from Taiwan.

"Three months ago, this attack came from Taiwan. We need to be honest. I will be straight today. From Taiwan," he said. "And Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry also, they know the campaign. They didn't disassociate themselves. They even started criticizing me in the middle of all that insult and slur, but I didn't care."

Tedros also referenced remarks made by scientists on French TV that Tedros had condemned on Monday as artifacts of a "colonial mentality." The scientists were discussing the potential of moving a vaccine trial in Europe and Australia to Africa, according to the BBC. Tedros said Wednesday that the remarks insulted "the whole black community."

Tedros pleaded for world leaders and politicians to put aside differences and focus on the fight against the pandemic, which has now infected more than 1,452,378 people around the world and killed at least 83,615, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

"Please quarantine COVID politics. That's what we want. We don't care about personal attacks," he said. "We care about the life passing every single minute unnecessarily because we couldn't unite to fight this virus."

About 90 international passengers remain aboard Coral Princess - WPLG Local 10

Princess Cruises arranges 9 additional charter flights Tuesday

MIAMI – About 90 international passengers remain aboard the Coral Princess ship at PortMiami, as others left Tuesday on nine additional domestic charter flights, a spokesperson for Princess Cruises said.

Princess Cruises confirmed two people on board died while the ship was at sea and there were 12 cases of the new coronavirus. A third passenger, Wilson Maa, of California, died at a Hialeah hospital Saturday night after waiting for hours to be taken off the ship.

The cruise line said 545 guests disembarked Coral Princess on Sunday and another 139 left Monday, leaving 274 on board.

According to the spokesperson, Coral Princess departed March 5 from San Antonio (Santiago) for a South America voyage, which was scheduled to end in Buenos Aires on March 19.

"In response to the global spread of COVID-19, Princess Cruises announced a voluntary 60-day pause of operations on March 12, becoming one of the first companies in the leisure travel industry to take this proactive measure," the spokesperson said. "Coral Princess remained in service longer than previously expected, until arriving at the Port of Miami, due to a series of port closures, airline cancellations and other actions taken, which impacted the onward travel home of the guests and crew onboard."

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, D-Florida, has called for an investigation by local authorities into Maa's death.

"Families and individuals should not be abandoned during medical emergencies or left pleading for help," she said. "I truly do believe it needs to be investigated."

Gimenez said the initial investigation indicates that the cruise ship did not follow protocol and call 911.

"They were waiting for a hospital bed to open up, and that's not with our guidelines," he said.

Have you ever wondered how birds laugh? A video shared by Indian Forest Services (IFS) Officer Susanta Nanda is trending on Twitter for the same reason.

Susanta shared the clip from his official handle today. In the viral video, two Kookaburra birds sitting on a railing can be seen laughing raucously. He shared the incredible clip with the caption, "This is how kookaburras laugh. The bird throws its head back in raucous laughter, mainly to establish territory."

Kookaburras, which are terrestrial tree kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea, can be seen throwing back their heads and laughing in the 15-second-long clip. According to the IFS officer, the birds laugh like this, by throwing back their heads, in order to establish territory.

Within minutes of being shared, the clip immediately garnered around 1.5k views. The clip left many entertained and amazed. Netizens took to the comments section to talk about what they thought of the clip. One user wrote, "Amazing! Never experienced such voice before!"

U.S. Coronavirus Outbreak Kills an American Every 45 Seconds as Country Records Highest Daily Death Toll Yet - Newsweek

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:58 PM PDT

The novel coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. has seen its deadliest day yet, with nearly 2,000 deaths reported on Tuesday. The country's death toll climbed to just below 13,000, as of Wednesday, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.

The virus, which was first reported in Wuhan, China, has infected more than 1.4 million people wordwide, including nearly 400,000 in the U.S., as of Wednesday. There were 1,970 deaths in the U.S. reported on Tuesday, which means the virus has killed an American every 45 seconds.

The majority of the deaths have been in New York, which saw its highest daily death toll with 731 fatalities on Tuesday. The state's death count is now at nearly 5,500, New York Governor Cuomo confirmed. New York City alone has at least 4,009 casualties, as of Wednesday.

New Jersey has the second highest number of deaths in the country, with at least 1,232 fatalities, according to the New Jersey government website.

New Jersey and Connecticut both saw their largest daily death tolls, with 229 and 71 deaths, respectively, recorded on Tuesday. The tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut has seen a combined total of nearly 7,000 deaths among its nearly 191,000 infected people.

Michigan has seen at least 845 casualties, while 582 patients have died in Louisiana, according to each state's health department.

California has seen at least 450 deaths, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday, while Massachusetts has seen 356 fatalities, according to the Massachusetts Department of Health.

The U.S. braced for a surge in deaths this week. U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams told Fox News on Sunday this week will be "the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans' lives."

"[The surge in deaths] is not going to be localized. It's going to be happening all over the country," he warned. But "there is a light at the end of the tunnel if everyone does their part for the next 30 days," he added.

Several states across the country have issued a "stay at home" order. The order requires residents to remain at home, while all non-essential businesses, including bars, restaurants and other places of public gathering, are shuttered.

President Donald Trump noted at a White House press briefing on Tuesday: "Even during this painful week, we see glimmers of very, very strong hope. And this will be a very painful week."

"But signs are that our strategy is totally working. Every American has a role to play in winning this war [against the virus]," he added.

Data on COVID-19 cases is from Johns Hopkins University unless otherwise stated.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advice on Using Face Coverings to Slow Spread of COVID-19

  • CDC recommends wearing a cloth face covering in public where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
  • A simple cloth face covering can help slow the spread of the virus by those infected and by those who do not exhibit symptoms.
  • Cloth face coverings can be fashioned from household items. Guides are offered by the CDC. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html)
  • Cloth face coverings should be washed regularly. A washing machine will suffice.
  • Practice safe removal of face coverings by not touching eyes, nose, and mouth, and wash hands immediately after removing the covering.

World Health Organization advice for avoiding spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

Hygiene advice

  • Clean hands frequently with soap and water, or alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Wash hands after coughing or sneezing; when caring for the sick; before, during and after food preparation; before eating; after using the toilet; when hands are visibly dirty; and after handling animals or waste.
  • Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your hands, nose and mouth. Do not spit in public.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing. Discard the tissue immediately and clean your hands.

Medical advice

  • Avoid close contact with others if you have any symptoms.
  • Stay at home if you feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and runny nose, to avoid potential spread of the disease to medical facilities and other people.
  • If you develop serious symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) seek medical care early and contact local health authorities in advance.
  • Note any recent contact with others and travel details to provide to authorities who can trace and prevent spread of the disease.
  • Stay up to date on COVID-19 developments issued by health authorities and follow their guidance.

Mask and glove usage

  • Healthy individuals only need to wear a mask if taking care of a sick person.
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
  • Masks are effective when used in combination with frequent hand cleaning.
  • Do not touch the mask while wearing it. Clean hands if you touch the mask.
  • Learn how to properly put on, remove and dispose of masks. Clean hands after disposing of the mask.
  • Do not reuse single-use masks.
  • Regularly washing bare hands is more effective against catching COVID-19 than wearing rubber gloves.
  • The COVID-19 virus can still be picked up on rubber gloves and transmitted by touching your face.

Disney+ is almost near its subscribers goal four years ahead of schedule - CNN

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:40 PM PDT

The company told investors last year that it projected Disney+ would have 60 million to 90 million global subscribers by 2024. Now, after five months, the service is almost there, the company announced on Wednesday.
Disney reported that it had nearly 30 million paid subscribers in February and since then the service's global footprint has grown.
In the last few weeks, the service launched in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, among other European countries. The service also became available in India last week where it was offered in conjunction with the country's existing streaming service, Hotstar.
Disney (DIS) said that India accounts for eight million of the total, but it did not break down the subscriber totals of the other countries.
Here's when Disney's delayed movies are coming to theaters
"We're truly humbled that Disney+ is resonating with millions around the globe," Kevin Mayer, the chairman of Disney's direct-to-consumer unit, said in a statement on Wednesday. "Great storytelling inspires and uplifts, and we are in the fortunate position of being able to deliver a vast array of great entertainment rooted in joy and optimism on Disney+."
The company did not say if Disney+ received a bump from millions of people being forced to stay at home because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The pandemic has hit the company particularly hard. Disney's theme parks around the world have closed down, many of its biggest films of the year have been postponed and the Disney-owned ESPN has had to scramble to figure out what to air after sports leagues suspended games and canceled events.
Disney said last week that it would furlough employees "whose jobs aren't necessary at this time" starting on April 19.

Illinois 4000 COVID-19 tests per day short of goal, governor says - Northwest Herald

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:40 PM PDT

As a public service, Shaw Media will provide open access to information related to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) emergency. Sign up for the newsletter here

Governor JB Pritzker announced Wednesday afternoon that Illinois has recently surpassed 6,000 COVID-19 tests per day, 4,000 short of the goal.

Ten days ago, Pritzker laid out a plan to issue 10,000 tests per day in 10 days in order to understand the presence of the virus in the community.

"We are not there yet," he said.

Pritzker said that the machines being utilized currently from Thermo Fisher, a global provider of COVID-19 testing solutions to state and commercial laboratories, are not providing valid results.

"I will not sacrifice accuracy for the sake of speed. Until these challenges are overcome, these machines will not be part of our testing capacity here in Illinois," he said.

The Illinois Department of Health said they are working with commercial manufacturers and local hospitals in order to reach the goal and get accurate results.

In response, the governor outlined a new plan to increase the capacity. Private labs used by the federal government, he said, takes 7-10 days to produce a test result. State labs and local hospitals take two days.

"Instead of solely relying on federally sanctioned labs to save us, we're charting our own path forward," Pritzker said.

Moving away from global supply chains, the state is working with in-state universities and labs to develop their own raw materials such as the Viral Transport Medium (VTM), a necessary reagent, to distribute locally. Hospitals running low on VTM will be able to access these resources.

Pritzker also announced that more than 96 locations across the state are now collecting specimens.

"This capacity has brought us the increase that we have already achieved, 6,000 tests in a 24 hour period," he said.

The state's labs will be matching their capacity soon, he added.

There have been 75,066 tests performed in the state.

Illinois reported 15,078 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 1,529. There have been 82 deaths the last 24 hours, making the total at 462.

Both the death total and new case total are the highest for a 24-hour period during the pandemic.

The COVID-19 Response Fund announced Wednesday morning a $5.5 million grant to 30 organizations that serve vulnerable populations with access to food, shelter, health care, mortgages and utilities.

As the governor continues to urge people to stay at home, some may be able to return to work thanks to a new test recently authorized by the FDA.

"This blood test detects antibodies and persons who have been infected, not the actual virus. An important distinction as we are focused on finding COVID-19 positive individuals and isolating them from those who are not infected," IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said.

By helping identify people who have overcome an infection and developed an immune response, the antibody tests will "play a critical role in the fight against COVID-19," Ezike said.

"Results from antibody testing will identify individuals who we assume will be no longer susceptible to the infection and can return to work," she said.

This test, she added, could also help determine who may donate blood that could serve as a possible treatment for those who are seriously ill from COVID-19.

While the IDPH is bringing antibody testing to Illinois, their bigger priority, she said, is obtaining the test that will actually detect the virus. The IDPH is responding to the testing supply constraints by developing multiple testing platforms that will reduce its dependence on commercial manufacturers.

"We need to know where there are large numbers of cases, hotspots, if you will, so that we can try to do more targeted efforts to stop the spread in those high risk areas," Ezike said.

To further assist with testing, Wednesday evening, the Illinois Air National Guard planned to move 250 negative pressurized tents from Eugene, Oregon to Chicago. In addition, 575 guardsmen from the Air National Guard and the Army National Guard will assist in the build out of the McCormick Place Convention Center set to turn into an Alternate Care Facility (ACF) for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms who don't require intensive care.

"This effort is truly a whole of government approach to ensure the very timely delivery of these negative pressurized tents in parallel with a build out, the really expeditious build out, of the McCormick facility," Illinois Adjutant General Richard Neely said.

Broadway Will Remain Closed at Least Until June, and Probably Longer - The New York Times

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 01:15 PM PDT

Broadway Will Remain Closed at Least Until June, and Probably Longer - The New York Times

Broadway will remain closed for at least another two months, industry leaders said Wednesday, as they formally acknowledged what has been widely known: that their initial target of reopening in mid-April has become impossible because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Broadway League, a trade association representing producers and theater owners, said the 41 Broadway houses would remain shuttered at least through June 7. But industry leaders widely expect the theaters to remain closed longer — many say that a best-case scenario is reopening following the July 4 weekend, and that it is possible that the industry will not reopen until after Labor Day.

"We're hopeful that the restrictions will be lifted by June 7," said Charlotte St. Martin, the president of the Broadway League. "If they're not, we will continue to monitor government restrictions and will advise ticket holders as soon as we know what those restrictions are."

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, asked at a news conference in Albany about the Broadway announcement, said it was too early to determine when large gatherings could resume. "I wouldn't use what Broadway thinks as a barometer of anything, unless they're in the public health business," he said.

He added, "Before you go to Broadway theaters, people are going to say, 'When can I go back to work? When can I go back to school? When are the other essential services going to open?' Before they go to a play, there's going to be a lot of other questions that they're going to ask, and that's going to be a function of numbers."

The pandemic that has killed tens of thousands of people around the world and has battered the global economy is also wreaking havoc with the theater industry. Broadway is not only an important center for the art form, but is also big business: The industry drew 14.8 million patrons last season and grossed $1.8 billion.

The entire industry — like so many others — is on pause, at the cost of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars.

Spring and summer programming has already been canceled in other sectors of the performing arts world — all five Edinburgh festivals, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Jacob's Pillow dance festival, and New York nonprofits including Lincoln Center Theater and the Roundabout Theater Company. In Britain, London's West End theaters have canceled all performances through May 31, and in Canada, Toronto's Mirvish Theaters have closed until June 30 "at the very earliest."

Broadway has been loathe to officially announce a far-off reopening date for several reasons: ticket sellers are reluctant to refund more tickets than they need to, sooner than they need to; each closing extension requires another consideration of whether and how to compensate or provide health benefits for unemployed workers at a time when there is no box office revenue; and getting ahead of government mandates might endanger insurance coverage. (Theater producers and 14 labor unions are now negotiating a possible extension of health benefits for workers affected by the ongoing suspension of performances.)

But theater presenters also expect that their stages will recover more slowly than some other parts of the economy because live performance usually involves large numbers of people getting together in confined spaces, which could be viewed as a public health risk, and theater tends to draw an older audience, which is a population particularly vulnerable to this coronavirus.

Broadway has even more challenges than other parts of the theater world: It is heavily dependent on tourism, and it is not clear when visitors from around the country and around the world will again be excited about visiting New York. And the high production costs of Broadway shows mean high ticket costs, which could be an obstacle during a recession or depression.

The League said that people who had already bought tickets for Broadway shows through June 7 should soon receive an email about refunds or exchanges; if such an email is not received by April 12, the League advises ticket holders to contact the organization or company that sold them the tickets.

The uncertain Broadway schedule has impeded the Tony Awards, which honor Broadway plays and musicals. The ceremony, originally scheduled for June 7, has been postponed indefinitely.

A few options being discussed in the industry: The Tonys could extend the eligibility deadline, which had been April 23, for shows to compete in this year's awards, and hold a ceremony later in the year. But the longer Broadway remains closed, the less practical that seems because of the amount of time it takes to preview and open a show and then allow the approximately 850 Tony voters, who live all over the country, time to see it.

One alternative: Honor an abbreviated 2019-20 season, considering only those shows that opened before the March 12 shutdown. That would exclude 16 shows that had been scheduled to open between that date and the April 23 deadline.

Another option: The Broadway League and the American Theater Wing, which jointly produce the awards, could consolidate the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, and let any shows that opened over a two-year period compete for honors at an awards ceremony next year.

In any case, awards organizers are hoping CBS will agree to air a broadcast, coordinated with the reopening of Broadway, that would celebrate theater as a way of reminding viewers of the joys of the art form.

Jesse McKinley contributed reporting from Albany.

John Prine’s 15 Essential Songs - The New York Times

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 01:15 PM PDT

John Prine's 15 Essential Songs - The New York Times

John Prine was an Army veteran walking a U.S. Postal Service beat in Chicago and writing songs on the side when Kris Kristofferson heard him and helped spread the word about Prine's gifts. Pretty soon, he resigned as a letter carrier; his supervisor snickered, "You'll be back." Nearly 50 years later, in January, he was given a lifetime achievement Grammy for his contributions to songwriting. The singing mailman almost always had the last laugh.

Prine, who died on Tuesday from complications of the coronavirus, was legitimately unique. He took familiar blues themes — my baby left me — but filled them with whimsy and kindness. He liked a saucy lyric, and wrote movingly, in character, of the quiet lives and loneliness of humdrum people. He seemed like a Zen sage and offered an uncynical live-and-let-live morality in his songs, writing in a colloquial voice that revealed a love of the way Americans speak. He showed how much humor you could put in a song and still be taken seriously. He had less in common with any other songwriter than he did with Mark Twain.

He grew up in Maywood, a western suburb of Chicago, and was reared by working-class parents from Kentucky, where he often spent summers with relatives and fell in love with country music and bluegrass. By 13, he was performing in rural jamborees. When he debuted in 1971, in his mid-20s, he sounded like an old man already, so years later, when he got old and went through two cancer treatments, he still sounded like himself. From his first to his last, he wrote songs that were tender, hilarious, and wise, without grandstanding any of these traits. Here are 15 of the best.

"Angel From Montgomery," his best-known song, begins with a little declarative startle: "I am an old woman, named after my mother." It's an incisive and terrifying look at the dissatisfactions of a bad marriage and a woman's sense of being economically trapped in her misery. Bonnie Raitt recorded it three years later, and uncovered some of the song's dormant melodies.

Prine's self-titled 1971 debut album is a playlist all its own; it has more great songs than a lot of respected songwriters have in their entire careers. The moral stance of this sprightly folk-rock ditty is a response to what he saw as sham patriotism during the Nixon years, and it remains relevant: "Jesus don't like killing/No matter what the reason's for." Prine, a former altar boy, stopped playing it live for a number of years, but when George W. Bush became president, Prine said, "I thought I'd bring it back."

Some fans and critics are put off by this song and its slightly lesser companion, "Sam Stone," which they see as performative displays of sensitivity toward the vulnerable, or what we now call virtue signaling. Yet somehow, we don't ever criticize singers for signaling vices and meanness. Prine sings in the voice of an old married man with a dead son, who spends his days in silence and loneliness, and who at the end of the song, asks people to be kind to the elderly.

For his second album, "Diamonds in the Rough," Prine assembled a small, mostly acoustic band and pursued a front-porch, Appalachian simplicity. Like a lot of his songs, this one takes a lighthearted view of domestic complications: A man comes home and discovers his wife has run off with a traveling salesman. He cries miserably, recounts what he loved about her ("I miss the way she used to yell at me/The way she used to cuss and moan"), and full of pride, comes to the wrong conclusion: Never leave your wife at home.

For people who love Prine's music, there's some small solace in listening to his songs about death, which have the same sense of mischief and acceptance as the ones about broken marriages. (Try "Mexican Home" or "He Was in Heaven Before He Died.") The narrator is dead, and as angels explain to him how it happened, they also recap his last wish: to not be dropped into a cold grave, but to be put to practical use, as an organ donor: "I'd druther have 'em cut me up/And pass me all around." A kind of recycling anthem from his terrific third album, "Sweet Revenge."

Almost like an apology, Prine concludes "Sweet Revenge," a grieving, downhearted album, with an exuberant Chuck Berry cover, one great writer nodding to another. The Memphis R&B guitarist Steve Cropper produced the record and put together a crack horn section, which pushes ahead of some barrelhouse piano. Prine wasn't a rocker, but he could rock.

Prine seemed to have an unlimited ability to expand and vary songwriting structures and perspectives. This track, which has been covered by Miranda Lambert and Norah Jones, has two verses: In the first, the narrator describes a drunk who "beats his old lady with a rubber hose," and in the second, the narrator gets stuck in a frozen bathtub (it's hard to explain) and imagines the worst until a sudden sun thaws him out. Both verses illustrate the refrain: that's the way the world goes round. Even when circumstances are bad in Prine songs, he favors optimism and acceptance.

A lot of Prine songs celebrate physical pleasure: food, dancing and sex, which he gallantly prefers to call "making love." The working-class singer in this soulful, up-tempo shuffle feels unreserved delight at having a girlfriend ("We receive our mail in the same mailbox/And we watch the same TV"), and wants us to know he and Betty aren't just friends ("I got rug burns on my elbows/She's got 'em on her knees"). OK guy, we get it.

A stomping number from "Storm Windows" in the style of Chuck Berry, with the Rolling Stones sideman Wayne Perkins on guitar. Prine's lyrics don't distinguish between reality and absurdity — they don't clash, they mix — and here's one more way to say you're happy and in love: "I don't even care what kind of gum I chew." And another: "Lonely won't be lonesome when we get through."

Prine had a sideline in novelty songs, which give full voice to his comic absurdity, throwaways that are worth saving, including the 1973 semi-hit "Dear Abby," and this now-problematic number from "German Afternoons" inspired by a paperback book called "Instant Hawaiian." Prine and his co-writer Fred Koller began making up Hawaiian-sounding nonsense words full of sexual innuendo, and Lloyd Green added airport-Tiki-bar bar steel guitar for maximum faux authenticity. You can say Prine's loving disposition makes the song OK, and you can also say it doesn't.

After five years away, Prine returned with "The Missing Years," a Grammy-winning album produced by Howie Epstein, Tom Petty's bass player. The singer in this gentle, masterly miniature claims to want good things for an ex-lover, but feelings aren't simple: "I wish you don't do like I do/And never fall in love with someone like you" twists the knife. Now recording for his own label, Oh Boy Records, Prine was about to hit a hot streak.

Bob Dylan, who was a huge fan, called the haunted, mysterious "Lake Marie" his favorite Prine song, and who are we to disagree with Dylan on the topic of songwriting? Even though Epstein's booming production draws too much attention to itself, "Lost Dogs + Mixed Blessings" is full of winners: the simple, loving ballad "Day is Done," the rapid-fire doggerel of "We Are the Lonely" and the calm, ornery "Quit Hollerin' at Me," where Prine tells his wife that the neighbors "already think my name is 'Where in the hell you been?'"

Prine was diagnosed with cancer, and doctors removed a tumor from the right side of his neck, which took away his already-modest ability to project his voice. But incredibly, his stolid singing was now perfect for harmonies, and he cut a duets album called "In Spite of Ourselves" with female country and Americana singers. On its one original song, Prine and Iris DeMent trade backhanded compliments ("She thinks all my jokes are corny/Convict movies make her horny") that read like a divorce complaint, but turn out to be only pillow talk.

At seven minutes and three seconds, this track from "Fair and Square" is the longest song on any of his studio albums. A cloud of slide guitar keeps this soft waltz afloat and allows Prine to express his disapproval of, if not contempt for, so-called humans who lack empathy for others. There's a couplet that is clearly about George W. Bush, and Prine noticed that some audience members were surprised by it. "I never tried to rub it in anybody's face, but I thought it was pretty clear that I wasn't a closet Republican," he told the Houston Press.

In 2013, doctors removed the cancerous part of Prine's left lung, which sidelined and weakened him. It's hard now to listen to his final album, "The Tree of Forgiveness," which was nominated for three Grammys, and not think that Prine heard the clock ticking louder. There's so much tenderness in "Knockin' on Your Screen Door," about a man whose family left him with only an 8-track tape of George Jones, and in the elegiac, reassuring parental entreaty "Summer's End." In the last song, "When I Get to Heaven," Prine describes his ideal afterlife: a rock band, a cushy hotel, a girl, a cocktail ("vodka and ginger ale") and "a cigarette that's nine miles long." He removes his watch, and asks, "What are you gonna do with time after you've bought the farm?"

What Is the Disneynature Special 'Elephant' Featuring Meghan Markle About? - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex returns to her roots for this Disneynature special. Recently, Disney+ debuted its original film, Elephant, a special created in support of the nonprofit organization, Elephants Without Borders.

What is the Disneynature special, Elephant, about? How can fans of the former Suits cast member watch Disney's film? Here's what we know about Elephant and Disney's streaming platform.

Disneynature and Disney+ released their original special, titled 'Elephant'

Disney is back with more nature specials — one of which stars an elephant and the non-senior royal member, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as the narrator of her story. Elephant premiered exclusively on Disney's streaming platform, Disney+, and features the story of one of the world's largest living land mammals.

This film is about an African elephant, Shani, "and her spirited son Jomo as their herd make an epic journey hundreds of miles across the vast Kalahari Desert. Led by their great matriarch, Gaia, the family faces brutal heat, dwindling resources, and persistent predators, as they follow in their ancestor's footsteps on a quest to reach a lush, green paradise," reads a synopsis.

This Disneynature special was created in conjunction with Elephants Without Borders

When Disney+ debuted its film on April 3, Disneynature and the Disney Conservation Fund made a donation to help the species featured in the documentary. This was a donation to the nonprofit organization, Elephants Without Borders.

"In recognition of Elephant, Disneynature and the Disney Conservation Fund are supporting Elephants Without Borders, an organization working in Botswana to ensure people and elephants thrive," Disney said in a statement, according to E! Online

"Elephants Without Borders is working on strategies to protect Botswana's elephant haven, helping to reduce human-wildlife conflict through education, economic development, and solutions that either redirect elephant migration away from people or provide communities with tools that help to protect themselves and their properties when elephants are nearby," the statement continues.

This wouldn't be the first time that Disneynature made a donation along with a film's premiere. When Disney debuted Born in China, they made a sizable donation to the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) to protect pandas in their natural habitat.

What other Disneynature specials are on Disney+?

There are a few Disneynature specials available for streaming in honor of Earth Month. This April, Disneynature premiered Dolphin Reef exclusively on the streaming platform. That special features Star Wars and Thor actress Natalie Portman as the narrator.

Disneynature's Penguins is available for Disney+ subscribers. Additionally, there are two specials that follow the filmmakers as they made Elephant and Dolphin Reef, titled In the Footsteps of Elephant and Diving with Dolphins respectively.

Since Disney's acquisition of National Geographic, award-winning television shows, documentaries, and movies produced by that studio are also listed in the Disney+ library. That includes Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, Free Solo, Jane, and the original series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

Elephant is available for streaming on Disney+. To learn more about this service and to subscribe, visit their website.
