| Here's everything we know about the unapproved antibody drug Trump took to combat coronavirus - CNBC Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:08 PM PDT  Former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Friday he believes the White House carefully considered all of its treatment options before it opted to give President Donald Trump the experimental coronavirus antibody cocktail from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. "This was a wholly appropriate decision to give him active therapy, and then it just became a choice of which therapy," Gottlieb said on "Fast Money," prior to Trump being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center "out of an abundance of caution" following his coronavirus diagnosis. "I wouldn't infer anything from the fact they chose the Regeneron product over another product — other than they probably had confidence looking at the data on the Regeneron product that it seemed to be the most effective of the products, given what they knew," added Gottlieb, who led the regulatory agency under Trump from May 2017 to April 2019. Not everyone in the medical community agrees with Gottlieb about the decision to give Trump an experimental treatment. Some shared concerns about the preferential treatment provided to the president, as the drug has not been approved by federal regulators, and others pointed to the limited available data. On Twitter, as one doctor commented, "V.I.P. medicine doesn't mean better medicine when there is no data." Regeneron confirmed it provided a single, 8-gram dose of its REGN-COV2 treatment for use by the president, whose coronavirus diagnosis was announced just before 1 a.m. ET Friday. Regeneron's antibody drug is still experimental and has not received emergency use approval from the FDA, but it was provided in response to a compassionate use request. CNBC's Meg Tirrell on Friday reported that a "limited number of patients" had also received the drug on that basis after speaking with Regeneron's chief scientific officer, Dr. George Yancopoulos. On Tuesday, Regeneron said its REGN-COV2 treatment improved symptoms and reduced viral loads in non-hospitalized patients who have mild to moderate Covid-19. That was based on results for the first 275 trial patients. At the time, the company indicated it plans to "rapidly" discuss the early results with regulatory agencies, including the FDA. Regeneron is not the only company developing antibody drugs; Eli Lilly and GlaxoSmithKline also are testing monoclonal antibodies, which experts have viewed as a promising potential Covid-19 treatment. Regeneron's REGN-COV2 is an experimental shot of lab-generated antibodies that mimics how the body would mount a reaction to a foreign invader. The goal is to boost the immune system's defenses, rather than to wait on human biology to do its job. In a memo provided Friday by the White House, Trump's physician, Dr. Sean Conley, said the president was given Regeneron's antibody cocktail "as a precautionary measure." Conley also wrote that Trump "remains fatigued but in good spirits." Trump also has a low-grade fever, NBC News reported Friday afternoon, citing three people familiar with his condition. The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on the decision to give Trump the antibody drug. Gottlieb said he thought that if Trump were going to receive any early treatments for Covid-19, it was likely to be Gilead Sciences' remdesivir. The antiviral drug has received emergency approval from the FDA, but for hospitalized coronavirus patients who are severely ill. "I would have thought they would use remdesivir because there's more data around that drug at this point and we are seeing that drug be used earlier and earlier in the course of the disease," Gottlieb said, adding that he is "optimistic" about Regeneron's drug, but it's still very early. "You might get a lot of benefit but you just don't know," he said. However, Gottlieb pushed back on any suggestion that Trump receiving Regeneron's treatment should be cause for alarm. He said virtually any other American, at this point of their coronavirus diagnosis, would just be monitored by medical professionals, hoping symptoms don't intensify. "For a president of the United States, if you have available therapy, I think you deliver it, especially if you understand the safety profile of these products and you believe they are otherwise going to be safe and aren't going to worsen his condition," Gottlieb said. Some doctors are skeptical, however, of the decision to treat Trump with the antibody drug. "It is bad science, bad medicine and bad ethics to give unproven things to powerful people," wrote Dr. Vinay Prasad in a Twitter post. Prasad is an associate professor of medicine and practicing hematologist-oncologist at University of California San Francisco. "I will say that in no case have I heard of a patient, especially of the importance of the president, getting an experimental infusion of an antibody cocktail," added Seattle-based pulmonologist Dr. Vin Gupta on MSNBC, who also pressed for more information from the White House. In addition to Regeneron's antibody cocktail, the president is also taking zinc, Vitamin D and the histamine-blocker famotidine. The famotidine treatment was "speculative" at this point, even though there are studies looking at whether it could be beneficial on coronavirus patients, Gottlieb said. "There are studies that suggest if you're low on Vitamin D, Vitamin D supplementation can be beneficial, but you'd want to be on Vitamin D prior to getting sick," he added. "I don't think any of those drugs are problematic or could cause harm, I just don't know that they're going to provide a treatment effect in this setting." It was the second time in 10 months the Loons said goodbye to a young goal scorer whom they drafted highly. It's also another decision that indicates a team that added gifted 24-year-old Emanuel Reynoso and 31-year-old defender Bakaye Dibassy in this transfer window firmly is aimed to win now. Last November, they left 2017 No. 1 overall pick Abu Danladi available in the expansion draft, and Nashville SC made the injury-prone forward the second player selected in a two-team draft. On Thursday, they traded the 2018 MLS SuperDraft's seventh overall pick to Montreal after Toye read the wall's writing and requested a trade to a team where he could be the starting striker. They're also in discussions with European and South America clubs to loan 20-year-old Uruguayan designated player Thomas Chacon so he'll play consistently. | Meet Nathan Apodaca, the viral Fleetwood Mac TikTok star - Los Angeles Times Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:47 PM PDT Nathan Apodaca is a man of many talents. Most notably, those include skateboarding down an Idaho highway, sipping Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice right out of the bottle and lip syncing to Fleetwood Mac's 1977 hit "Dreams." All at the same time. But the TikTok star can also bag and stack potatoes, fight fires and embroider beanies with the best of them. After his aforementioned "Dreams" video went viral Saturday — it now has 19 million views and 3.7 million likes (and counting) — Apodaca's internet fame even spiked interest in Fleetwood Mac. Streams for "Dreams" have more than doubled, while sales have nearly tripled since his video became a sensation. When Apodaca, 37, isn't introducing old-school jams to a younger audience on the popular social video app TikTok, he works as a laborer at a potato warehouse in his native Idaho. (He was born and raised there, though his dad is of Mexican descent and his mom hails from the Northern Arapaho tribe in Wyoming.) "We've been working ever since the pandemic, getting potatoes out to whoever needs them," Apodaca told the Los Angeles Times Thursday via Zoom. As his viral fame ballooned, Apodaca realized he needed to talk to the big boss at the potato warehouse, where his father also works. "I was like, 'So, I don't know what's going on. I have some things going on where I have a couple interviews. I just need to get this taken care of,'" he said. "Well, we're proud of you," his boss responded. "We're excited for you." Within a few days, Apodaca had an L.A.-based manager fielding interview requests. On the side, Apodaca started to work to suppress wildland fires in 2013 as part of a "camp crew" (although he's not currently fighting the West Coast's wildfires, which have reached Idaho.) The newly minted social media star also casually drops the word "bobbin" in conversation: He knows the ins and outs of embroidery machines well by now, after recently purchasing one of his own. "I went and bought myself an embroidery machine with my taxes," he said. "And I started making beanies, and I made like, $1,000 off those beanies, man. And it was crazy. After my machine paid for itself, I was rolling for a minute." Those beanies feature Apodaca's nickname, "Doggface" — in honor of hip-hop legend Nate Dogg — as well as an assortment of his catchphrases, including "DOWN FOO!" and "420 SOULJAZ." "I was like, 'Man, I'mma buy this machine, I'm gonna push this button and it's gonna go to town. I'm not gonna have to do nothing,'" Apodaca thought to himself. "And then I'm sitting there and I bought it and I went to my lady, and she's like, 'Do you even know how to do this?' And I was like, 'No, can you show me real quick?'" The "Doggface" design is also a nod to Apodaca's TikTok handle, @420doggface208. "420's what I do," he said, referring to cannabis culture. "Doggface is the name. And 208's where I stay." His two daughters, Makyla and Angelia, persuaded their dad to give the app a try. His youngest, Makyla, was engrossed in the app when she came to visit from Montana, where the girls live with their mom. "I seen her doing some of the dances, and I was like, 'Wow, that looks pretty cool,'" Apodaca said. "And I was like, 'I know I could do that.' And then she's like, 'Yeah, right.' "And I was like, 'Well, watch me.' And then she filmed me, and me and her started doing it. Then she's like, 'Whoa.' She's like, 'Yeah, that's pretty cool. We actually did it; we made a video.'" Apodaca was hooked. His carefree, goofy nature translates well for the app and its dance challenges. Eventually, his daughter Makyla caved and helped him set up an account of his own — just as Musical.ly was rebranded as TikTok around November 2017. Under the @doggface208 handle, Apodaca tried his hand at "The Git Up," a dance trend coined by TikTok user Harvey Bass to a song by the same name. Makyla hopped on her dad's skateboard and rolled backward, filming him as he grooved along to the country song. In less than 24 hours, Apodaca racked up 700,000 views and 100,000 likes. "And I just hear the bling, bling, bling: the likes, the hearts," he said. "And I'm just like, 'What's goin' on?' Sittin' there gettin' on cloud nine." After his first brush with internet fame, Apodaca almost stopped posting. "Because I was like, satisfied, happy," he said. "And then my oldest daughter is the one that told me, 'No, you got followers. You're dumb if you just stop now.' I was like, Well, what am I gonna do?' "She's like, 'Well, duh, you always dancing. Just dance!'" Gradually, Apodaca built up 132,000 followers on that account — until TikTok banned him for a video promoting his merchandise and beanies toward the end of last year. Not to fear. A self-proclaimed stoner, he switched over to the @420doggface208 account in January, slowly building up a fan base for his throwback tracks and happy-go-lucky perspective on life. "Everybody always says 'do more skating videos.' … I just do me, basically," he said. "And it puts smiles on faces. And that's what makes me happy about it." In the "Dreams" clip, it turns out, he was longboarding to work after his car battery died. "I use my penny board when I want to go somewhere real quick, real fast," Apodaca clarified. "I use my skateboard when I'm messing around and want to try to break my ankle. And then I use my longboard when I wanna go coast." He couldn't come up with a genre he didn't like. "I honestly listen to everything: I've listened to country, being in Idaho, obviously," Apodaca said. "I love reggae. I listen to freakin' EDM. I like anything that gots a beat. And that's why my daughters, they always laugh at me. Because it don't matter where we're at: If I hear a song, and it's moving, my body just does what it does." That bottle of Ocean Spray he gulps in his "Dreams" video? He buys the big jugs to save money and estimates he goes through about one a day. The colder, the better. As for that feather tattoo on the side of his head, it represents his mom's Native side of the family, and contains the Northern Arapaho flag. "I'm Native-Mexican," Apodaca said. "I've always embraced both sides of my dad's heritage, my mom's heritage. Cholo all the way. I live it. I love it. It don't matter. They can label me, whatever they want, but I'll live it." Not even a week into his viral success, Apodaca is taking the newfound attention in stride. Since Saturday, he has received $10,000 in donations from fans via Venmo, Cash App and PayPal. He's "feeling blessed," he says, and plans to spend that money on his parents, car repairs and a new RV. And his "Dreams" video even made fans out of Fleetwood Mac members. The 29-year-old's status at Stamford Bridge has changed rapidly in the last week after a half-time row with manager Frank Lampard when the Blues were trailing 3-0 to West Brom. The Spain international is now seeking to leave west London and Antonio Conte's Inter side are once again interested in Alonso after trying to sign him last January. Conte had been interested in bringing in fellow left-back Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea on a similar deal and the Serie A giants are considering both players ahead of a move that likely won't go through until the final hours of deadline day on Monday, October 5. 지난 2일 방송된 JTBC '히든싱어6'(기획 조승욱, 연출 홍상훈 신영광)에는 1982년 데뷔, 40년 가까이 독보적인 트로트계 싱어송라이터로 군림하고 있는 설운도가 원조가수로 출연했다. 판정단으로는 '트로트 손자' 홍잠언, '국민 할매' 김영옥, '트로트 삼촌' 김수찬 신인선 류지광 고재근, '트로트 고모' 조혜련 등이 나섰다. 데뷔곡 '잃어버린 30년'이 하루 만에 히트곡이 된 기록으로 기네스북에 등재되기도 한 설운도는 "나와 닮은 사람이 정말 있을지 궁금하다"며 넘치는 자신감을 보였다. 대망의 첫 미션곡은 판정단 모두에게 떼창을 이끌어낸 '다함께 차차차'였다. 흥 넘치는 노래가 끝난 뒤, 조혜련은 "전국을 다녀봐도 똑같은 사람이 없다고 했는데, 다 비슷하다"며 혀를 내둘렀다. Amid this, a viral social media video allegedly shows heaps of Brazilian currency in full public display in the middle of a road. It is being said that it is actually the money recovered from corrupt politicians and public servants in Brazil. The caption to one such video uploaded on Twitter reads, "This is not a Building, these are the 4 Billion Dollars that the Brazilian Government has recovered from its corrupt politicians and public servants, the money is displayed in a public place for public viewing. One day we HOPE our Government of India displays such Loot."
India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the claim is misleading. These are fake currency notes displayed as part of a promotional event for a 2017 film - Federal Police: The Law Is for Everyone. The movie, however, was based on a true story of a corruption scandal in Brazil. Similar claims are also viral on Facebook. The archived versions of the posts can be seen here and here. AFWA probe With the help of the InVid tool and appropriate keywords, we found some images of the piles of notes similar to the one seen in the viral video carried by multiple Portuguese websites in 2017. According to one such article published on August 29, 2017, the gimmick was part of the promotion of a film - Federal Police: The Law Is for Everyone, that tells the story of Operation Car Wash. Operation Car Wash is an ongoing and allegedly world's biggest anti-corruption probe by the Federal Police of Brazil that began in 2014. As per the report, the installation was over four meters in height and simulated the amount recovered during the last three years of Operation Car Wash Four billion Brazilian real. The installation was placed at Curitiba, capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paraná between August 28 to September 7 in 2017. Curitiba is considered as the heart of the Car Wash investigation. We also found a YouTube video where Luís Antônio Boudens, president of Fenapef, the largest representative entity of the Federal Police of Brazil can be seen speaking in front of the installation. The title of the video uploaded on 29 August 2017 in the Portuguese language translates as, "Expectation at the premiere of the film Federal Police: The Law Is for Everyone". The description of the video roughly translates into English as, "Fenapef's president, Luís Boudens, is in Curitiba and expects the film to faithfully portray the joint work of federal police, prosecutors and the judiciary. Boudens visited the "mountain of money" placed by the production of the film, which represents 4 billion Brazilian real." Thus, we can safely say that the pile of money in the viral video is fake and was rather a promotional activity for a 2017 Brazilian movie. The internet has ridiculed Donald Trump and wife Melania after the President and First Lady announced that they had tested positive for Covid-19. Many Twitter users mocked the president's infamous suggestion that people could cure themselves by ingesting cleaning products, mocking up pictures of Trump knocking back a bottle of bleach. Others including celebrities such as Sophia Bush and Zach Braff also saw the irony in Trump's repeated attempts to play down the virus, asking whether the pandemic was still a 'hoax'. Trump's remark that the death toll 'is what it is' also attracted dark humour, including an image of a MAGA-style cap with the quote on the front. It comes after the president tweeted shortly before 1am EST: 'Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. A statement from the White House doctor said both the president and first lady are 'well at this time' but did not say if either have symptoms. Hicks, 31, is said to have first felt unwell returning from a rally in Minnesota on the president's plane Wednesday evening. She was quarantined away from others on the plane and her diagnosis was confirmed Thursday, according to an administration official. If Trump becomes seriously ill, there are constitutional procedures that would allow Vice President Mike Pence to assume power temporarily, just weeks before the November 3 election. | Trump has the coronavirus — here's what happens next - CNBC Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:08 PM PDT  LONDON — President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for Covid-19, prompting many to seek clarity on the procedures in place to deal with a variety of scenarios. The president, 74, who is regularly tested for Covid-19, said via Twitter that he and the first lady would now begin their quarantine and recovery process. The development, which comes late in the run-up to the Nov. 3 presidential election, has raised the possibility that others at the highest levels of U.S. government could have been exposed to the virus in recent days and may need to quarantine as well. White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said in a letter that the president and first lady were "both well at this time, and they planned to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence." Conley said the White House medical team would maintain a "vigilant watch," before adding he expected Trump "to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering." "I will keep you updated on any future developments," Conley said. What happens now?In a research note published earlier this year, John Hudak, a senior fellow and deputy director at the Brookings Institution's Center for Effective Public Management, outlined some of the scenarios designed to "protect the president, the integrity of the office, and the continuity of government" in the event of a positive Covid-19 test. Hudak said the test, in itself, would not be cause for emergency action. Instead, Trump "would likely be able to continue his everyday activities and manage the office either undisturbed or with mild challenges." It was expected to create some challenges for those around him, however. "The need for 24-hour Secret Service protection could put agents at risk for contracting it. But given modern technology, the president could quarantine and have remote or sufficiently distanced contact from most, if not all, aides, including the individual(s) who would be involved in the presidential daily brief," Hudak said.
