Hero Charity Golf tournament set for Thursday
The 4th annual Golf with a Hero Tournament begins with registration starting at 7 a.m. and runs to 4 p.m. Thursday Oct. 29 on the Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa, 2100 Costa Del Mar Rd. Tournament start is 9 a.m. and foursome starts will have staggered tee times for social distancing. The event is hosted by the Camp Pendleton Historical Society and benefits the nonprofit historical group’s projects. Each foursome is slated to include an active duty Marine and three other golfers. Registration is $150, including food service and golf carts.

Congregation offers Hebrew reading classes
A free nine-week series of virtual classes on reading Hebrew starts the first week in November sponsored by Congregation B’nai Tikvah via Zoom. The program is open to new and beginning Hebrew readers. A Level 2 class for review and intermediate readers will also begin next month. The class, books/materials and Internet support are covered by a grant, “Read Hebrew Across America,” by the National Jewish Outreach Program. Festival of Lanterns slated for Nov. 14
The Festival of Lanterns: A Night of Light & Reflection will be broadcast on the Carlsbad City Library Facebook page at 6 p.m. Nov. 14. Concerts in Your Cars series at fairgrounds
Aaron Lewis and Sully Erna will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 as part of the “Concerts in Your Cars” series at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. The concert will be broadcast on an FM frequency that attendees can listen to in their cars along with on-stage sound system and four-sided stage with four large video screens. Patriotic group runs essay contest
The Rincon del Diablo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution holds an American History Essay Contest open to students in grades 5-8. The essay topic is the “250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre.” Students are asked to imagine they witnessed the events March 5, 1770, and describe their family’s discussion about the Boston Massacre and what role it played in organizing the colonists against the British king and Parliament.
