Roy Jones Jr insists Mike Tyson 'is capable of fighting anybody' after exhibition - Daily Mail Posted: 30 Nov 2020 10:08 PM PST A hurting Roy Jones Jr insists Mike Tyson 'is capable of fighting anybody' after the legendary 54-year-old impressed in their comeback exhibition
Roy Jones Jr believes 54-year-old Mike Tyson still has the ability 'to fight anybody' having gone eight rounds with the fearsome heavyweight. Jones earned a draw in his eight-round exhibition bout against Tyson on Saturday night and felt enough of the former world champion to say 'Iron Mike' can still mix it with the best. At 51, Jones also admitted that his body is feeling the effects, even joking that his hands are hurting from Tyson's head. Mike Tyson (left) can still fight anyone, according to Roy Jones Jr (right), who fought him in an eight-round exhibition draw on Saturday night He said: 'I'm happy to scratch it off the bucket list and move on with my life. He hit harder, his hands hurt, his head hurts [my hands], everything hurt that makes contact. 'He's capable of fighting anybody. If he catches you, you're going to have problems. I was feeling everything. He's an exceptional puncher, still. All it takes is one punch from either one of us for something to happen. He can do anything he wants to do. 'I thank God nobody got hurt, it makes it even better. People got entertained.' Tyson declared his intention to carry on fighting after his battle with RJJ and old rival Evander Holyfield could be next for the powerful American. Jones admitted the famous Tyson power is still potent and he is feeling the effects Jones said he had formulated his game plan for Tyson by watching old fights with Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. He went on: 'It makes you so fatigued trying to deal with him on the inside — you have to keep his arm locked up. I learned that from [his] Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield fights; lock his arms up [so he can't throw] uppercuts. 'I had to work on the clinches. Land punches on the inside of the clinch and get the hand back [inside the clinch]. That's what my strategy was going in. Clinch him on the inside, box him outside. 'I never thought about dropping, but he hit me with one good body shot and he hit me with an uppercut straight-up and my jaw is a bit sore. It's all good, happens in a fight. But I never got dizzy, or that. I did feel them… but they never made me dizzy. Jones Jr is happy to tick it off his bucket list but Tyson is keen to have another exhibition 'He was throwing more power punches. I was throwing more jabs and other punches. It could go either way. I'm cool with the draw.' When asked if he'd be interested in a rematch, Jones added: 'He [said] he wanted to do it all again but that's a big, old, dude. He weighed 220-pounds but he's more massive than 220, trust me. 'I took a draw like Tyson, I mean, come on brah how can you get mad about that?' Tyson on the other hand, was delighted with the event and is keen on performing again. Jones Jr revealed that his jaw was sore after feeling the power of Tyson's punches 'This is better than fighting for championships,' Tyson said of the heavyweight exhibition, which raised money for various charities. 'We're humanitarians now. We can do something good for the world. We've got to do this again. I would absolutely do this again.' 'I'm good with a draw, because I entertained the crowd. The crowd was happy with it. Nobody thought I could go eight rounds, but you've got to go the distance, that's boxing. I was very happy to be here, despite what everyone says I was happy to go to eight rounds. 'I used to do this for three minutes. Somehow, those two minutes felt like three minutes. I'm just happy I got this under my belt and will continue to go further.' 2020-12-01 03:32:59Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMiRGh0dHBzOi8vd3d3Lm5pa2thbnNwb3J0cy5jb20vZW50ZXJ0YWlubWVudC9uZXdzLzIwMjAxMjAxMDAwMDI5Mi5odG1s0gFKaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmlra2Fuc3BvcnRzLmNvbS9tL2VudGVydGFpbm1lbnQvbmV3cy9hbXAvMjAyMDEyMDEwMDAwMjkyLmh0bWw?oc=5 |

Climate change: Temperature analysis shows UN goals 'within reach' - BBC News Posted: 30 Nov 2020 07:42 PM PST A new analysis, seen by the BBC, suggests the goals of the UN Paris climate agreement are getting "within reach." The Climate Action Tracker group looked at new climate promises from China and other nations, along with the carbon plans of US President-elect Joe Biden. These commitments would mean the rise in world temperatures could be held to 2.1C by the end of this century. Previous estimates indicated up to 3C of heating, with disastrous impacts. But the experts are worried the long-term optimism is not matched by short-term plans to cut CO2. For more than a decade, researchers from the Climate Action Tracker have kept a close eye on what countries' collective carbon-cutting pledges mean for our warming world. After the failed Copenhagen summit in 2009, the group estimated that global temperatures would rise by 3.5C by the end of this century. But the creation in 2015 of the Paris climate agreement, which was designed to avoid dangerous warming of the Earth, made a considerable impact. As a result of the international deal, countries slowly started to switch away from fossil fuels. In September this year, the group concluded that the world was heading for warming of around 2.7C by 2100. This figure was still far above the 2C goal contained in the wording of the Paris pact, and nowhere near the more challenging 1.5C target that scientists endorsed as the threshold to destructive warming in 2018. Their new "optimistic analysis" now suggests a rise of 2.1C by 2100. So what's really changed? The past three months have seen some key developments. In September, China's President Xi Jinping told the UN that his country will reach net zero emissions by 2060, and that its emissions will peak before 2030. According to the CAT researchers, this could reduce warming by 0.2 to 0.3C by the end of the century. Japan and South Korea have both followed suit, pledging to reach net zero by 2050. South Africa and Canada have also announced their own net zero targets. The other significant change is the election of Joe Biden in the US. Tackling climate change is a major part of his agenda. He has promised to bring the US to net zero emissions by 2050. That move would reduce global temperatures by 0.1C by 2100. "We now have north of 50% of global emissions covered by big countries with a zero emissions by mid-century goal," said Bill Hare from Climate Analytics, who helped lead the Climate Action Tracker analysis. "When you add all that up, along with what a whole bunch of other countries are doing, then you move the temperature dial from around 2.7C to really quite close to two degrees." "It's still a fair way off from the Paris Agreement target, but it is a really major development," he told BBC News. Potential difficultiesThe CAT researchers say they have taken a fairly conservative approach but they readily acknowledge that their optimistic analysis comes with some major caveats. The biggest problem as they see it, is that the near-term plans to cut carbon by 2030 are just not up to the job. "Countries have not yet adjusted their short-term actions to be on a pathway towards the long-term target," said Niklas Höhne, from the NewClimate Institute, who also works on the Climate Action Tracker. "Long-term targets are easier, they are far away. But short-term actions are happening right now and they affect citizens, they affect voters. And that's why this is much more difficult," he told BBC News. The countries that have signed up to the Paris agreement are expected to lodge new carbon-cutting plans for 2030 by the end of this year. It's expected that a number will do so, including the UK and the EU. But there are several countries who are still reluctant to set goals, and many poorer nations are still looking to invest in coal. "There are countries that still remain bad actors, including Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Australia, Russia, and a few others," said Bill Hare. "And we also have a pipeline of coal plants in the region where I'm working now in Asia. It has not collapsed, it has not gone away, so yes, there's much to be concerned about. And there's much that can go wrong." What about the response to Covid-19?According to observers, the response of countries to the Covid crisis is a huge opportunity to focus their short-term spending on renewable energy and increased decarbonisation. "The pandemic opened a window to not only get countries to outline their long-term goal, but to actually move onto the right path so that they can actually achieve the long term goal," said Dr Maisa Rojas, who is the director of the Center for Climate and Resilience Research at the University of Chile in Santiago. "Are we going to harness that opportunity? My impression is that many, including the EU, are harnessing it." Follow Matt on Twitter. Volcano Eruption in Indonesia Forces Thousands to Evacuate - EcoWatch Posted: 30 Nov 2020 06:08 PM PST <p>This year's winners include an Indigenous Mayan beekeeper who led a coalition to ban genetically modified soy in seven Mexican states, a French activist who pressured France's three largest banks to stop financing coal, a woman who harnessed youth activism to enact a ban on single-use plastics in the Bahamas, an Indigenous Waorani woman who organized legal action preventing oil extraction in a huge expanse of Amazon rainforest, an Indigenous Karen organizer who spearheaded the formation of the world's first peace park in an active conflict zone, and an activist who prevented the construction of what would have been the first coal-fired power plant in Ghana.</p><p>"These six environmental champions reflect the powerful impact that one person can have on many," John Goldman, president of the Goldman Environmental Foundation, said in a statement. "Even in the face of the unending onslaught and destruction upon our natural world, there are countless individuals and communities fighting every day to protect our planet. These are six of those environmental heroes, and they deserve the honor and recognition the Prize offers them — for taking a stand, risking their lives and livelihoods, and inspiring us with real, lasting environmental progress."</p><p>The prize ceremony, typically held in April each year was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/goldmanprize/" target="_blank">ceremony</a> will take place virtually today, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m. PST and will be hosted by Sigourney Weaver, with musical appearances by Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, Danni Washington and Lenny Kravitz.</p><p>Here are the winners of the 2020 Goldman Environmental Prize:</p> Kristal Ambrose, the BahamasKristal Ambrose. Goldman Environmental Prize <p><em>Kristal Ambrose started a youth movement that convinced the government of the Bahamas to enact a ban on single-use plastic bags, plastic cutlery, straws, and Styrofoam cups and containers.</em></p><p>Millions of tourists travel to the Bahamas each year to see the islands' famed beaches and diverse marine life. However, plastic waste has increasingly polluted beaches and coral reefs, harming marine life and the economy. Worldwide, at least <a href="https://ift.tt/39tOHLT" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">8 million tons</a> of plastic end up in the ocean each year. By some estimates, <a href="https://ift.tt/33zkCH8" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">more than half</a> of all plastic produced are for single-use purposes.</p><p>Ambrose, a 29-year-old Bahamian woman, says she once witnessed the removal of plastic lodged internally in a sea turtle and, according to a statement, vowed, "I'll never drop a piece of plastic on the ground again." She went on to join an expedition to study the western garbage patch in the Pacific and, upon returning home, founded the Bahamas Plastic Movement in 2013. The goal: develop solutions and educate the youth. Ambrose created a free camp to train youth leaders and researchers who spent their days surveying beaches for plastic, measuring microplastics from boats, and dissecting fish to find plastic within.</p><p>Ambrose drafted legislation to ban single-use plastics on the islands and organized outreach and advocacy campaigns around the issue. In January 2018, Ambrose and students from her camp met with the environment minister to discuss the economic and environmental impacts of plastic waste. Three months later, the environment minister officially announced a ban on single-use plastic bags, straws, food utensils, and Styrofoam cups and containers. The ban was enacted in January this year.</p> Chibeze Ezekiel, GhanaChibeze Ezekiel. Goldman Environmental Prize <p><em>Chibeze Ezekiel </em><em>led a four-year grassroots campaign to cancel the construction of the first coal-fired power plant in Ghana, changing the trajectory of Ghana's energy future</em>.</p><p>Ghana has faced energy shortages and blackouts. Increasing droughts have made hydroelectric projects less reliable. Searching for solutions, the government of Ghana proposed the construction of a 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant and an industry-ready shipping port in Ekumfi district, a coastal fishing community where fresh water resources are limited.</p><p>Knowing that wastewater and mercury emissions from the coal plant could threaten the health and safety of the districts, Chibeze "Chi" Ezekiel, 40, got to work. As national coordinator of <a href="https://ift.tt/2lGxOWj" target="_blank">350 Ghana Reducing Our Carbon</a> and an experienced youth organizer, he launched an awareness campaign around the dangers of coal plants. When the coal company pitched the plant to local communities and community leaders, the latter were prepared to ask tough questions and provide contrary evidence to their claims.</p><p>In 2016, Ghana's environment minister announced the coal plant would not move forward, and in 2017 the country's president said all new power projects would be renewable energy-based. Ghana has now released a Renewable Energy Master Plan, signaling its commitment to a renewable energy future. Ezekiel's work prevented the coal industry from gaining access to Ghana, and he now works toward a cleaner energy future for the country.</p> Nemonte Nenquimo, EcuadorNemonte Nenquimo. As a campaigner for the <a href="https://ift.tt/2zLDBzY" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sunrise Movement,</a> she and her team threatened the banks' reputations through media campaigns and handed out flyers to bank customers. Pinson cultivated relationships with journalists, making clear to them the links between French finance and coal through documentation. She also worked from within, purchasing shares in the banks so she could attend shareholder meetings and develop relationships with professionals within the banks.</p><p>Her work was fruitful. By 2017, none of the French banks were financing new coal projects. With that done, she focused on insurers of banks with similar tactics. Now, 17 insurers and 22 global banks have ceased support of coal development. Pinson is now working to stop all financial institutions from investing in coal.</p> Paul Sein Twa, MyanmarPaul Sein Twa. Goldman Environmental Prize <p><em>Paul Sein Twa worked to establish a 546,000-hectare (1.35-million-acre) peace park to safeguard biodiversity and culture in the Salween River Basin in Myanmar, the first in a conflict zone.</em></p><p>Paul Sein Twa, 47, is a member of the Karen Indigenous group in Myanmar. The Karen sought independence from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) after World War II, leading to what has been described as the world's longest ongoing civil war, displacing hundreds of thousands to camps along the Thai border.</p><p>The Salween River Basin, home to the Karen people, holds the longest dam-free river in Asia. This basin, largely undeveloped due to decades of conflict, is a biodiversity hotspot with large, intact teak forests home to iconic species such as tigers, clouded leopards, gibbons, sun bears, Asiatic black bears, and Sunda pangolins. Agribusiness, extractive industries, deforestation, and mining are on the rise in the region, and in 1998, a mega dam was proposed within the Karen territory in the Salween River Basin.</p><p>Sein Twa began exploring community-driven approaches to conservation and decided to work proactively to protect Karen territory by advocating for the creation of a transboundary protected area, also known as a peace park. He worked with NGOs, government and Karen civil society to rally support and to educate people from 348 villages about the process of forming the park. He also worked with the forest department in Karen state to transition forestry practices back to Indigenous methods and to map the territory to show Karen ownership of land.</p><p>The idea of the park gained widespread support, and in December of 2018, the 546,000-hectare Salween Peace Park was formed. It includes 27 community forests and three wildlife sanctuaries. It is the first peace park to be established in a conflict zone.</p><p>Sein Twa continues to work with communities in the still-volatile region to develop plans for land management, document changes in biodiversity, and resist development.</p> <p><em>Reposted with permission from <a href="https://ift.tt/33scBDL" target="_blank">Mongabay</a>.</em></p><div><strong><div><strong><strong><div><strong><div><strong><div><strong></strong></div><div><strong></strong></div></strong></div></strong></div><div><strong></strong></div></strong></strong></div><div><strong></strong></div></strong></div><div><strong></strong></div>From Your Site Articles Related Articles Around the Web Top stories - Google News November 30, 2020 at 08:42AM https://ift.tt/3ljxDuk Volcano Eruption in Indonesia Forces Thousands to Evacuate - EcoWatch Top stories - Google News https://ift.tt/2FLTecc Shoes Man Tutorial Pos News Update Meme Update Korean Entertainment News Japan News Update |

BTS’ New Album ‘Be’ Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200 - uDiscover Music Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:08 PM PST BTS lands its fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as their new album, Be, bows at the top of the tally. The K-Pop stars' new set, which was released via Big Hit Entertainment on November 20, arrives with 242,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending November 26, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. BTS' Be is the second chart-topper of 2020 for the pop group, following Map Of The Soul: 7, which debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated March 7. Of Be's 242,000 units earned to date, album sales comprise 177,000, TEA units comprise 35,000 and SEA units comprise 30,000 (equating to 48.56 million on-demand streams of the album's songs). Be is a mostly-Korean-language release, but does feature the group's first all-English song, "Dynamite." The track marked the act's first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Sept. 5. It also recently garnered the group its first Grammy Award nomination, for best pop duo/group performance. Be is the 11th mostly non-English album to hit No. 1. Of the 11 leaders that were recorded mostly in a language other than English, five have been by BTS. The album's first week is the largest for an album by a group, both in terms of equivalent album units and album sales, since BTS' own last No. 1 album, Map of the Soul: 7, earned 422,000 units in its first week, of which 347,000 were in album sales (chart dated March 7).
