The Vegas Golden Knights have signed defenseman Lukas Cormier to a three-year entry-level contract.
Cormier was selected in the third round (No. 68 overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and was the team’s second pick of the draft after Brendan Brisson was taken in the first round. Cormier is the first member of Vegas’ 2020 draft class to sign with the Knights.
Cormier, a skilled mobile defenseman who moves the puck well, is off to a great start this season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with seven goals and 21 points in 13 games with the Charlottetown Islanders. His 21 points lead all defensemen in the league.
The 18-year-old recorded 36 points in each of his past two seasons, so he’s on pace for his best season yet.
The left-shot defenseman from Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, New Brunswick was one of the final cuts from Team Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship.
