Good news flowed Friday afternoon. The University of Virginia offered spots to just more than 2,000 students as it completed its third and final admissions cycle for the Class of 2027.
On St. Patrick’s Day at about 5 p.m., notifications were delivered to 2,182 people in the regular decision round, as well as to those who were deferred from the two previous cycles, early decision and early action.
The University welcomed 1,038 new Wahoos in December during its first and binding cycle, called early decision. February, UVA delivered acceptances to about 6,000 people during early action. Today’s action brings the total number of offers for the Class of 2027 to 9,189.
As of Wednesday, 56,439 people had applied to the University in yet another record-breaking year; Virginians accounted for 27% of applicants. That’s compared to 50,962 applications last year and 48,011 in 2021. The pandemic dampened applications to colleges around the country in those years.
In the decisions announced Friday, UVA offered 750 Virginians admission (a 13% offer rate) and made 1,432 offers to out-of-state students (an 8% offer rate).
“Reviewing over 56,000 applications was a tall task this year, but we’re excited by this group of extremely talented and qualified admitted students,” Dean of Admission Greg Roberts said. “We hope members of our community will join us in celebrating and encouraging those who were admitted, while also comforting and supporting those who put their hearts and souls into their applications, but unfortunately did not receive the news they were hoping to get.”
