The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Emil Andrae to an entry-level contract, the club announced Monday afternoon.
Andrae, 21, collected six goals and 26 points in 51 games with HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League this season. He recently reported to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and has two assists in his first two games with the club.
The Flyers originally selected Andrae in the second round (No. 54 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. The five-foot-nine defenseman, who shoots left, captained Team Sweden to bronze and scored eight points in seven games at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Andrae’s entry-level contract with the Flyers will take effect in the 2023–24 season and will run through 2026. He is currently playing with the Phantoms on a professional tryout agreement.
Andrae is the fourth member of the Flyers’ 2020 draft class to sign with the team, joining Tyson Foerster (No. 23 overall), Zayde Wisdom (No. 94), and Elliot Desnoyers (No. 135). The Flyers had until June 1, 2024 to ink Andrae to an entry-level contract before his exclusive draft signing rights expired.
Among all U21 players in the SHL this past season, Andrae tied with Detroit Red Wings defense prospect William Wallinder for first place with 26 points. He also led the way with 20 assists in 56 games.
The Flyers currently sit in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division (and 26th in the NHL) with a 28–32–12 record and 68 points in 72 games this season. They’ll return to action on Tuesday evening to take on the Montreal Canadiens at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
