CASPER, Wyo. —A Casper Reentry Center inmate reported as an escapee last April was recently captured in Montana, according to a state attorney.
Rachelle Madeline Lynch, 26, was booked into Natrona County on the escape warrant on Wednesday at 4 p.m., arrest records show.
On April 17, 2023, CRC staff reported Lynch as an escapee to the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office. She had signed out at about 4:45 p.m. and failed to return by 10.
The CRC manager advised deputies that Lynch’s grandmother had recently passed away in Billings, according to the affidavit. She had left all her possessions at the facility.
At Lynch’s initial appearance on the escape charge in Natrona County on Thursday, Assistant District Attorney Sam Forshner said Lynch had been captured in Montana.
Lynch was originally sentenced to 5–13 years out of Fremont County for involuntary manslaughter. According to the affidavit, Lynch admitted to retrieving a knife and swinging it at her nephew, Joshua Friday, after a drunken fight in October 2019.
A Riverton police officer observed bruises on Lynch, and a witness said they’d seen Friday punch Lynch several times.
Friday was found dead from a single stab wound to the torso. A trail of blood led back to the trailer where a fight had been reported around 5 a.m. that day.
