The phone will be the umpteenth iteration of the Mi 10 family this year although with a novelty, since everything indicates that it will become the first in its catalog in carry the Snapdragon 865+, the latest high-end processor from Qualcomm. | Flipstarter Campaign Launched to Create Viral BCH Videos for Normies - Cointelegraph Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:47 PM PDT Bitcoin Cash (BCH) advocate and CEO of BitcoinBCH.com, Hayden Otto, has launched a fundraising campaign to create viral videos promoting BCH to mainstream audiences — after failing to win over crypto converts to the cause. The last video produced by Otto garnered more than 100,000 views across various social platforms. He was also behind a controversial viral video last year showing a Bitcoin double spending exploit of the Binance-backed TravelbyBit payment network The campaign aims to raise 650 BCH (nearly $180,000) and has garnered 192.52 BCH (roughly $53,000) in donations already in the first 48 hours. The campaign is hosted on Flipstarter, a BCH-powered fundraising platform that has facilitated more than 2,900 BCH worth of contributions toward various initiatives in support of Bitcoin Cash development. The funds will be used to create videos with a budget of either $5,000 or $10,000 each to be posted to Youtube, Lbry.io, and Bitchute, alongside other "alternative streaming sites." Fund marketing, not developmentOtto told Cointelegraph he decided to start the campaign after noting several BCH supporters "saying that they would prefer to donate to Bitcoin Cash marketing rather than development." Otto has spearheaded numerous marketing initiatives for BCH over the past three years, including "producing video content for online audiences, [...] running meetups, or putting up signs/billboards." Otto asserted that financial support from the community would allow him to "supercharge" his promotional efforts.

| Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:08 PM PDT New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed four new locally transmitted coronavirus cases on Tuesday night, and announced that Auckland will temporarily see level three restrictions introduced for three days starting from midday on Wednesday, local time.  All four of the cases were found within one household in South Auckland according to New Zealand's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield. He added that none of the new cases had recently traveled outside of New Zealand. "We have been preparing for that time, and that time is now," said Dr Bloomfield adding that the "health system is well prepared." "In line with our precautionary approach we will be asking Aucklanders to take swift actions with us, as of 12 noon tomorrow, Wednesday August 12, we will be moving Auckland to level 3 restrictions," said Ardern. She added that this will give health officials time to conduct urgent contact tracing and assess the situation. The new restrictions mean that businesses including restaurants, bars and non-essential shops will have to close. People will also now only be allowed to leave their homes to conduct essential activities such as picking up supplies from grocery stores. Gatherings over 10 people will also be restricted in Auckland.  Schools in Auckland will also be closed for three days. Outside of Auckland, the rest of New Zealand will go into level two restrictions. Under the restrictions groups of no more than 100 people can gather in one place. Social distancing must also be practiced at hospitality businesses, while public venues such as museums, libraries and pools can open if they comply with public health measures and ensure one meter physical distancing and record keeping. The new restrictions across Auckland and New Zealand will take place from midday on Wednesday and last at least three days until midnight on Friday. | Xiaomi made a transparent OLED TV — and it’s actually for sale - The Next Web Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:08 PM PDT  Xiaomi is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a slew of new products, including phones, scooters, and the usual Xiaomi fare. Arguably the most interesting of these, however, is a new OLED TV. Sure, OLED TVs are common these days, but this one has a trick up its sleeve: it's transparent. Verbosely named the Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition, the TV literally lets you see through the screen, allowing you to keep an eye on your shows as well as whatever is behind the TV. And no, this isn't just vaporware: you can actually buy it starting August 16 for approximately $7,200 — if you live in China, anyway (¥49,999). Xiaomi claims s it's the only Chinese company capable of mass-producing atransparent TV of this caliber. Despite the newfangled technology, it seems like it's actually a decent TV too– in the right conditions, anyway. It features a 55-inch OLED transparent (duh) display with 93% DCI-P3 color support and 120 Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi says it has "a 150,000:1 static contrast ratio and an infinite dynamic contrast ratio" though in practice that'll, of course, depend on what's actually behind the TV. Because of the transparent display, Xiaomi moved all the processing components of the TV to the base of the display, so this isn't a unit you'll be mounting to a wall. Of course, your viewing experience will be affected by what's behind the display, as the screen cannot become completely opaque — you might want to have a dark surface behind the TV. Okay, so this isn't the most practical viewing experience, nevermind the $7,000+ price tag. Still, it feels like the future; who knows, maybe 20 years from now we'll all have unnecessarily transparent screens. Ron DeSantis pushes for college sports to play this fall - USA TODAY Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:08 PM PDT  With the Mid-American Conference canceling its football season this fall and Big Ten presidents voting against playing in the fall, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is still hopeful that other Power Five conferences will be able to play. "The Big Ten college presidents may have a little different sense of this. I think the Southeastern Conference, ACC, most of those institutions want to play because I think they see how important it is for the well-being of their student-athletes," DeSantis said Monday on Fox Sports Radio. "I'm 100 percent in favor of it." Speaking with host Clay Travis, DeSantis endorsed the #WeWantToPlay movement, championed by Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, which calls for the major conferences to take steps to ensure games can be played this fall. DeSantis said many student-athletes are safer on campus and in the structured environment that football provides than they would be otherwise in regard to coronavirus. "Very few of the folks in that cohort are becoming seriously ill," he said. "Just because you test positive, most of these athletes really never actually end up getting ill." However, the long-term effects of the novel coronavirus are not fully known. A recent study found about a quarter of young adults were still not back to their normal health weeks after contracting the infection. DeSantis said he not only wants to see football played on college campuses this fall, but at high schools across Florida as well. "Keeping kids out of school and denying them the ability, those who want to to play sports, those are going to have long-term ramifications," he said. "You'll be dealing with problems I think for society for years and years to come." He said he plans to go to a lot of high school games this fall to show his support. Noting that Florida has already conducted a NASCAR race with limited fans in the stands, as well as hosting the NBA's bubble, DeSantis said the return of sports is important for the country as a whole in getting back to normal. "You see everybody else is playing -- the NBA, Major League Baseball ... the PGA (Tour) ... soccer is playing -- there's no reason we can't play high school and college athletics," he said. | Video Of This Elusive Animal Is Viral. No, It's Not A Black Panther - NDTV Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:47 PM PDT  A video going viral online shows an elusive animal, endemic to the Western Ghats. On a sloping green hillside, a black-coated animal sits calmly. At first glance, it appears to a black panther - the elusive big cat that has fascinated many. When the camera zooms in, however, it becomes apparent that the animal is not a panther or, indeed, any other big cat. It is, in fact, an elusive species of a different kind. The video, which has gone viral on Twitter, shows a Nilgiri marten - the only marten species native to southern India. Martens are weasel-like carnivores of the genus Martes. The Nilgiri marten is the only marten found in India, and this rare animal lives in the hills of the Nilgiris and parts of the Western Ghats. A Nilgiri marten was captured on camera and the video is now viral on social media. Indian Forest Services officer Sudha Ramen was among those who shared it. "This not a black Panther which might excite you. This is Nilgiri marten, an arboreal animal endangered and endemic to the smaller pockets of Western Ghats. This is the only Marten species available in South India," she wrote while sharing the clip. In the comments section, she added that Nilgiri martens usually feed on smaller birds and very small animals. Take a look at the video below:
The clip has collected nearly 31,000 views on Twitter, along with hundreds of 'likes' and fascinated comments. Many Twitter users confessed that it was the first they had heard of such an animal. "Hearing and seeing for the first time," wrote one person in the comments section. "Nature brings in so many surprises. I did not know of this animal," said another. | Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Doesn’t Want To Punt On Fall Football - CBS Miami Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:08 PM PDT  TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday continued to pitch the return of college and high-school sports as a safer environment for student-athletes amid the coronavirus pandemic. During an appearance at Florida State University with football players and President John Thrasher, DeSantis also said the state would welcome athletes from schools in other states and conferences not planning to play this fall. "We want to make sure that folks know that we value the opportunities for our student-athletes in the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "I asked President Thrasher and (FSU football coach Mike Norvell) about, hey, if some of these other conferences shut down, can we welcome their players to the state of Florida?" DeSantis continued. "I'm not exactly sure how the NCAA rules work on that. But I can tell you, if there's a way, you know, we want you guys to be able to play as well." DeSantis' news conference came as the Big Ten Conference and the Pac-12 Conference on Tuesday called off all fall sports, including football, because of health and safety concerns related to the pandemic. The Big Ten and Pac-12 were first two major athletic conferences to take the step, though smaller conference also have called off fall seasons. "The mental and physical health and welfare of our student-athletes has been at the center of every decision we have made regarding the ability to proceed forward," Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren said in a prepared statement. "As time progressed and after hours of discussion with our Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee, it became abundantly clear that there was too much uncertainty regarding potential medical risks to allow our student-athletes to compete this fall." Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott also pointed to challenges in keeping student-athletes from getting exposed to COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus. "Unlike professional sports, college sports cannot operate in a bubble," Scott said in a statement. "Our athletic programs are a part of broader campuses in communities where in many cases the prevalence of COVID-19 is significant. We will continue to monitor the situation and when conditions change we will be ready to explore all options to play the impacted sports in the new calendar year." DeSantis, who played baseball at Yale University, has said athletes will be safer when involved in team activities than if they have free time that could lead to getting exposed to the virus. He also has touted athletics as a way to provide "structure" for students and has repeatedly focused during recent public appearances on having college and high-school sports this fall. "That means the world to so many of our student-athletes," DeSantis said. "We talked about some of the college players who may not necessarily be (going) pro. There's a lot of high school players who may not be able to get to college on it, but man, that's an important part of their development." The focus on sports comes amid broader debate about reopening public schools and university campuses this month because of COVID-19. Florida became a hotspot for the virus this summer, with 276 deaths of state residents reported Tuesday. In all, 8,553 Floridians have died of COVID-19, with more than 80 percent of them age 65 or older. The state also reported 5,831 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 542,792. In July, the state averaged more than 10,000 new cases a day. DeSantis has been joined by other Republican leaders in backing the resumption of sports. His appearance Tuesday at FSU's Albert J. Dunlap Athletic Training Facility came a day after President Donald Trump tweeted "Play college football!" Also, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis wrote a letter to every university president in the state urging them to support fall football. Thrasher said DeSantis' support is important as talks continue with presidents of other colleges on moving forward with the football season. "What we frankly want to send is a message to some of the other schools that may be teetering on whether or not to play football," Thrasher said. "We think it's in the best interest of our student-athletes for us to play football. We can do it safely. And we can do it productively for them, as well as the absolute culture of our university. And certainly, this community of Tallahassee. We're ready to do it." Thrasher, Novell and Athletic Director David Coburn said the school has safety protocols in place for student-athletes, from daily temperature and symptom checks to the use of a residence hall as a quarantine zone. "They're socially distancing their meetings, they're required to wear masks throughout the building and on the way to and from practice," Coburn said. "We're testing weekly now, and we will probably go to bi-weekly testing during the season." Players invited to take part in Tuesday's events backed up the arguments of DeSantis, Norvell and the administrators. "If you talk about 18- to 22-year-olds just quarantining at their house, that's unrealistic. It's unrealistic," said Keyshawn Helton, a junior wide receiver from Pensacola. "There are so many other things that guys are going to go do that are not safe. So, being here with my team and all together, it's the safest for us." The school, which is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference, has kept the number of positive COVID-19 cases under wraps through the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which prohibits confirmation or disclosure of student COVID-19 test results. Asked after the event about the potential economic impact of not playing football in the fall, Thrasher said it would be "significant." "Football drives everything else," Thrasher said. "When you have football, you're able to support the other sports, the Olympic sports and everything else." Coburn estimated football accounts for 75 percent of the athletic department's revenue. | Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:47 PM PDT  SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Tuesday announced that it would conduct an in-depth review of its rifle deployment policy and training after a video posted to social media showed deputies pointing guns — including at least one AR-15 — at a group of Black teens in Santa Clarita. The incident unfolded Friday at about 5 p.m. in the 19200 block of Soledad Canyon Road, near Whites Canyon Road, after multiple witnesses called authorities after seeing the three teens being attacked by a man armed with a knife. The video shows deputies responding to the scene with their guns pointed at the teens, who have their hands in the air, while witnesses yelled that the teens were the victims of a crime — not suspects. "As a result of that interaction, Sheriff Villanueva has directed a thorough review of our policy as it pertains to the deployment of the AR-15 rifle, as seen in the video," Los Angeles County sheriff's Chief Dennis Kneer
On Monday, Sheriff Alex Villanueva posted a video on Twitter stating that the department was investigating the incident.
