| Sterling drops from two-and-a-half-year high as Brexit talks paused - Reuters Posted: 05 Dec 2020 12:08 AM PST  LONDON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sterling fell from a 2-1/2-year high versus the dollar on Friday after Britain and the European Union failed to strike a trade agreement, with discussions paused so negotiators could talk to politicians for guidance. The euro also turned higher against sterling after the Brexit news. With less than four weeks left until Britain leaves the EU's orbit on Dec. 31, both sides have said the talks are stuck on three areas, with each calling for the other to compromise to secure a deal governing almost $1 trillion of annual trade. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will discuss the state of Brexit talks on Saturday. In late trading, the pound slid 0.1% against the dollar to $1.3434 after hitting $1.3540, its highest since May 2018. It also slipped against the euro, which was last up slightly at 90.35 pence. As sterling hit 2-1/2-year peaks versus the dollar on the expectation that there would be some sort of a Brexit deal, traders had ignored reports that the Bank of England could probably cut interest rates slightly below zero. Sterling is see-sawing, sometimes wildly, on comments from British and EU officials on the likelihood of a deal as they try to reach agreement before a transition period ends on Dec. 31. The transition period began after Britain's formal departure from the EU last January. Traders' nervousness was reflected in the derivatives market, as one-week implied volatility gauges - derived from the cost of options and incorporating risk posed by an EU summit next week - rose to their highest since March at 13.7% . Two-week vols hit similar levels. On top of that, a premium for one-month sterling puts over calls - showing downside protection - on one-month-expiry risk reversals is trading at 2.5, its highest since the 2016 Brexit referendum, excluding the rise last March. Although traders were looking mainly to this weekend for a trade deal, investors are also looking ahead to the virtual EU summit on Dec. 10-11, another possible date for a deal to be agreed. But the sides have missed a number of deadlines and issues such as fisheries and state aid remain unresolved. Some investors said negotiations could stretch into 2021 even though Britain has repeatedly ruled this out. "It's conceivable that they don't come to any agreement before the transition period ends on Jan. 1 and continue negotiating some sort of trade deal even after the UK has crashed out with no deal," said Marshall Gittler, head of investment research at BDSwiss Group. "I expect sterling to remain volatile indefinitely." The Tribal Chief entered the ring to start the show (after a sweet 10 bell salute to the late Pat Patterson) and Kayla… tried to interview him. She just asked some really lame amateur questions. One of those questions was about how some say Jey Uso is being used as a pawn and that Reigns is manipulating him, in which the camera focused behind Reigns. The look Jey had on his face, man. "Do I look like a man who manipulates?" And Jey's eyes dropped to the floor. Magnificent. He put Jey over as one half of the greatest tag team of their generation. He said Heyman went to bat for Kayla and she blew it on both questions. Heyman interjected and said that Jey Uso has been in consistent main events and it's led to big ratings at FOX And then Kevin Owens interrupted to settle the score, but Jey grabbed the microphone from Heyman and accepted the challenge. "I wasn't talking to the bus boy, I was talking to the head of the table." Oh my god! KO makes a challenge for TLC for the title, and Reigns responded by saying Owens is on the island of relevancy right now and agreed to Jey accepting, and also accepted the TLC challenge. But he won't attack now, because he's not a savage. He's a gentleman and won't attack because there's a lady in the ring. Ya know, the lady he was just calling an amateur and being mean to. In the back, Jey was mad and said he had to accept the challenge because he was disrespecting the family. And this time, Reigns was cool with him. But he said that even though he loves him, there are consequences for everything. So f-ing brilliant. The consequence? Jey Uso fighting all by himself in the main event. Jey waited on the ramp as his music kept playing and the realization sunk in - Roman isn't coming out. Or so we thought. Jey started the match and a few minutes later, out came Roman and as he stood on the apron with his hand out for a tag, he ran into the ring and put a savage beatdown on Otis. KO saved Otis and attacked Roman, but Jey dove out of the ring to make the save for the Tribal Chief. For the second half, Reigns and Jey tag teamed Owens all by himself. But Owens got offense on Jey and Roman looked on with disappointment. Then Owens did a Samoan drop and you could hear Heyman saying no no no. Angry Roman got in the ring and attacked Owens, then Jey climbed to the top and Roman told him to get down and tag out, because he closes the show. Owens attacked them both, and Roman locked the Guillotine in and the ref called for the bell. Roman told Owens that he and his whole family will fear him and he and Jey took chairs and beat Owens with them, until Roman revealed what the real consequence was. He turned around and whacked Jey with his chair multiple times. Oh my God, I never want this to end. This is the BEST! STORYLINE! IN! WRESTLING! And no I don't care that the referee was being weird with his DQ call there. It is every great mob movie (GoodFellas, Godfather, Casino, etc.) in wrestling story form. I want a movie with this story. I had goosebumps. The Rest Banks and Mella - This was a really good up until the weird snap at the end when Carmella took cues from RETRIBUTION and hacked the production truck. This may have been one of Carmella's best promos on the main roster. She played the entitled pretty woman well and said that Sasha is jealous because while she scratched and clawed to get where she is, she was just able to waltz into the Performance Center and get to the top with half the work. I'm very interested to see how this plays out going into TLC. Bryan, Rey Mysterio, and Big E def. Zayn, Ziggler, and Nakamura - WWE played a touching tribute video to Frank Sinatra's My Way, Pat Patterson's favorite song I believe. (Or at least his favorite Karaoke song) The most relevant things about the whole match was BIG E WITH NEW MUSIC AND THE CHALK IS BACK! Also, Sami and Bryan were going at it for a bulk of the match and I want them to fight forever. The 1979 Intercontinental championship Pat Patterson won was ringside. After the babyfaces won, Dolph Ziggler got the "take everyone's finishes" spot and was actually very entertaining. I haven't been this entertained by him in a long time. Natalya def. Bayley - The EST was on commentary for this, and I was so happy because originally I thought they were just leaving her out of this when the feud really is between Bayley and Bianca. Bayley was dominating Natalya until it went to the outside, and Bayley decided to focus on Bianca. Naturally, Natalya took advantage of that. Natty locked in a sharpshooter and Bayley tapped, clean as a whistle! I should have expected that but it caught me off guard in the moment. Clearly we'll be continuing with Bayley and Bianca. Bayley loses… a lot now. Maybe we should include that in a story here? King Corbin def. Murphy - The Forgotten Sons are forgotten no more. Now they're Corbin's new henchmen. Totally didn't realize it was them at first as their beards are gone and they are dressed like ninja businessmen. Corbin pretty much dominated Murphy in the first half, and then Murphy scouted Corbin's slide out of the ring into a clothesline and gave him a knee to the face. But then the ex-Forgotten ones attacked the Mysterios (Rey and pink turtleneck Ricky Starks wardrobe rummager Dominik) and dove back into the ring after Murphy chased them. Murphy ran into an End of Days. Yes, Corbin can irk me at times but I absolutely love the very well protected End of Days. This one ain't over yet! I… have no complaints about this show. I could nitpick, but honestly, this week (after Raw) was full of really great wrestling. When it's good, it's good. But when it's great...man. Sometimes we need great wrestling in our lives. | Lampard: I want to stay at Chelsea beyond my current contract - Goal.com Posted: 04 Dec 2020 10:42 PM PST The Blues boss has 18 months left on his deal and isn't yet pushing for contract talks but he has shown his desire to build a long-term project Frank Lampard has addressed his contract situation and has confirmed his desire to remain at Chelsea beyond his current deal. After guiding Chelsea through a transitional season last year, Lampard is now working to take the club to the next level following a summer of spending on new players that cost £220 million ($275m). Those new signings have already made an impact, with the Blues aiming to go top of the Premier League with a win over Leeds United on Saturday, while they are also on a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions, having won their Champions League group with a game to spare. Yet, there is still a sense of more to come from the current Chelsea group as the squad boasts an average age of 26 and Lampard is keen to be the manager to help this squad win titles. "In terms of my contract, time seems to have flown by and I've got 18 months left," Lampard told reporters. "I felt it when I came to the club, I knew there were a lot of circumstances at the beginning that were going to make last year transitional and maybe slightly difficult. "I felt like I took the job in a different position to most recent Chelsea managers. I think people sympathise with that as well. Now, I feel like I would love to be part of the long-term plan here. "The signings we made in the summer, other than probably Thiago [Silva] particularly, were signings for now and the future, players that are going to progress and who will mature, and, of course, I would love to be part of that. "Of course, that's the club's decision and the owner's decision first and foremost, so I have to get on with the short term which starts with Leeds tomorrow. But I don't think anybody would expect me to say anything else. "I'm a lucky man to be managing the club that I love and is my life. So, of course, I want to make a success of it and be here as long as I can."
 Despite Lampard outlining his desire to remain in west London in the long term, he will know that things can change quickly in this job. Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich has brought in a ruthless era that has seen him hire and fire managers, with none of his appointments lasting three years or more. Whether Lampard can buck the trend is hard to say but he is aware that his future is in the hands of the Russian billionaire. "That will only ever be decided by the owner and the only thing I can do is look at what's in front of me and at that minute," said Lampard regarding how long he will be in the Stamford Bridge hot seat. "Since I came in here, the relationship I have with Petr Cech [the performance and technical advisor at Chelsea] has been a huge strength for me. "I get on so well with him and, hopefully, we work well together. The communication I have with Marina [Granovskaia, Chelsea director] is very regular. I try and do all the things I can for the club, for the best of the club on and off the pitch and I can't get much further than that. "I said before I would love to do this job as long as possible but I'm also very aware it will be based on results. At the minute, I think we're working towards something and people are getting very excited and mentioning us being in a title race this year. "I always saw it as a longer plan than that and it might take until next year for us to really challenge, because of the signings, because of the bedding-in process. What we're doing at the moment, it's really getting people excited, but I know we need to be consistent throughout the season. "I'm genuinely not thinking too much about my future. I'm just thinking about the game-to-game at the minute. I guess the future will look after itself either way after that." It is rare for English managers, such as Lampard, to get a chance at one of the Premier League's top clubs. Indeed, Lampard was Chelsea's first English manager in 23 years and he has been building up experience against the Premier League and Champions League's biggest sides. After outlining his ambition to remain at Chelsea, Lampard was asked whether managing England is something he would like to do. "It's certainly not anything that's on my short-term radar," he added. "But I'm very patriotic, I loved playing for my country but, at the moment, I'm focused on trying to do my best here in a long-term way, which is all I can think about. The EU's chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, has been in London for six days, trying to carve out a difficult compromise with his UK counterpart, David Frost, and draw up a trade pact that can be ratified within weeks. "After one week of intense negotiations in London, the two chief negotiators agreed today that the conditions for an agreement are not met, due to significant divergences on level playing field, governance and fisheries," they said in a statement. "On this basis, they agreed to pause in order to brief their principals on the state of play of the negotiations. (European Commission) President (Ursula) von der Leyen and Prime Minister (Boris) Johnson will discuss the state of play tomorrow afternoon."
Earlier on Friday, there were contradictory reports of how far the talks had progressed, with some EU officials saying they were on the brink of agreement while British officials said the process was "very difficult". Britain formally left the EU on January 31 but has been in a transition period since then under which rules on trade, travel and business remain unchanged. From the end of the year, however, it will be treated by Brussels as a third country. If the two sides fail to reach a deal, the five-year Brexit divorce will end in disorder just as Europe grapples with the vast economic cost of the Covid-19 outbreak. A no-deal exit is the nightmare scenario for businesses and investors, who say it would snarl borders, spook financial markets and sow chaos through supply chains that stretch across Europe and beyond. The change signals T-Mobile readiness to phase out 3G and repurpose the spectrum as part of its 5G rollout plan and since Google Fi is an MVNO, it needs to do the same.  As first reported back in July, T-Mobile will cease to activate devices that can't make calls with VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Some smartphones released a few years ago may not offer native support for VoLTE unless they were carrier-branded devices. These devices switched to 3G when making phone calls and thus, will no longer be supported next year. The Google carrier is offering a $100 credit to affected customers if they purchase a device directly from Google Fi and activate it before December 31. Customers eligible for this credit must have had a non-VoLTE device active on a Fi line as of December 3. They also need to have received this email notification about the credit. It's worth noting the credit can be combined with other ongoing smartphone promotions. T-Mobile was never clear on exactly when it plans to sunset its nationwide 3G network, but it's taking the steps to do so as soon as next year to expand its 5G network. As India has lost the ODI series with 2-1, they will want to win the T20I series to level the tour before proceeding to play the Test series. However, the problem of the dearth of bowling options remains the same for India. Hardik Pandya had bowled four overs in the second ODI, but in the last ODI, he was used only as a pure batsman. It will be interesting to see with what combination Virat Kohli enters in Canberra. Here, let's take a look at India's Predicted Playing XIShikhar Dhawan: After scoring a half-century in the first ODI, Shikhar Dhawan has lost his wicket early in the last two ODIs. But the southpaw is in good form. He will look to replicate his impressive IPL performance in the T20I series to give a fiery start to the team. Mayank Agarwal: Mayank Agarwal was rested in the last ODI match after featuring in the first two ODIs where he could not even touch 50 runs marks. The speedster has picked up four wickets in the ODI series but was unable to pick wickets in powerplays which costed the team. He will be expected to give a breakthrough in T20Is; otherwise, Australia might again take the series home. Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah notched the crucial wicket of Glenn Maxwell to help India to win the last ODI. During the ODI series, he was in the form, but he has lost the knack of picking wickets, for which he is known. He could not pick wickets in the first 10 overs which costed India. The world-class bowler will have to bounce back stronger in the T20I series.
