The Wilkes County Agricultural Fair is Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 at the Rotary Fairgrounds (Worth Evan Tomlinson Park) off West D Street, North Wilkesboro.

Handwritten registration and entry forms can also be submitted at the Wilkes County Cooperative Extension Center in the Wilkes Agricultural Center building at the end of Executive Drive in Wilkesboro from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The deadline to register and enter exhibits is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13. Items can’t be registered on the day they’re brought to the exhibit hall. Entries can be brought to the exhibit hall and booths set up from 1-6:30 p.m. Aug. 30.
This year, there is no limit on the number of items entered per person. Categories for exhibits are listed in the fair catalog.
Youth exhibitors ages 5-8 will be paid premiums only in the categories of biggest pumpkin, biggest gourd, biggest watermelon and cookies. They will be awarded participation ribbons for entries in other categories.
All food products entered must be processed according to recognized safe methods. The content, processing method (pressure canner, boiling water bath or drying) and processing time must be included on the labels on the sides of jars. Entries will be disqualified if not properly labeled. A labeling sample is in the fair catalog.
Judging of fair exhibits is from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 31.
Decorating for the hay bale decorating contest is from 1-6:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 31. Judging of decorated hay bales starts at noon Aug. 31.
The fair officially opens at 5 p.m. Aug. 31. Fair hours are 5 p.m. to closing each day except Saturday, Sept. 4, when hours are 1 p.m. to closing. The lawn mower race, included with price of admission, is at 6 p.m. Saturday, Seot. 4.
Exhibitors can get their exhibits and any ribbons or premiums awarded from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 5.
