Benn, Seguin break down Game 5′s opening goal vs. Flames: ‘I think the crossbar got the best of him there' - The Dallas Morning News

After watching the Flames scored short-handed goals in three straight games, the Stars returned the favor on Tuesday — just barely.

Jamie Benn's first-period goal will technically go down as a short-handed tally, but it was created during 4 on 4. By the time Benn tucked the puck and crashed into the net, Rasmus Andersson had exited the penalty box, and Calgary was officially on the power play.

The play began when Benn stole the puck from a spinning Dillon Dube in the Dallas zone, springing Tyler Seguin to lead the rush as T.J. Brodie retreated for the Flames. Benn drove the net as Dube trailed him, and Seguin deftly navigated a pass around Brodie, in front of Cam Talbot and before Dube tracked down Benn.

"Found a way to get a 2 on 1, Segs made a great play," Benn said. "Pretty much just put it on my stick. That's all."

Seguin: "Jamie was going hard to the back post. I think the crossbar got the best of him there. It was a big hit, but a good goal."

It was Benn's second goal of the series, after his bouncing shot in Game 1 also beat Talbot. It was Seguin's third assist of the last two games.

The goal was also the latest flex for the Stars' top line of Benn, Seguin and Alexander Radulov, who did not play together during training camp or the round robin but were reunited in Game 2 against the Flames. Benn finished with a game-high six shots on goal while Seguin and Radulov each had two.

"We didn't see much of each other during training camp, but I don't think it should matter," Benn said. "We've seen a lot of each other over the years. The most important thing is to improve every game and try and make a difference."

The Stars had not scored a short-handed goal since Jan. 3.

In Games 2-4, Calgary used their penalty kill as an unlikely source of offense. Tobias Rieder scored two short-handed goals and Mikael Backlund scored another, as the Flames used their penalty kill to demoralize Dallas at times.

"You can't be making careless mistakes," Bowness said Monday. "You can't be making slow, soft saucer passes. You have to recognize the pressure you're under, and put it in a safer spot. Our players have to do a better job of that. It's not so much them. We know what they're doing, the onus is on us to make sharper, harder plays at the right times."

In the final five minutes of Game 5, the Stars went on the power play with a chance to ice the game — but also a chance for the short-handed Flames to strike again. Neither team scored.

Depth signing: The Stars will sign college free agent defenseman Ryan Shea, according to a report from Rinkside Rhode Island. Shea was a 2015 fourth-round pick by Chicago. His exclusive rights to the Blackhawks expired on Aug. 15, and he was free to sign with any NHL team.

Shea spent four seasons at Northeastern and was named to Hockey East's second team in his senior season, when he scored five goals and 26 assists in 34 games. Shea also captained the Huskies during the 2019-20 season.

Shea, 23, should provide depth defensively for the Stars in the AHL, similar to what Gavin Bayreuther (who the Stars signed after four years of college, when Bayreuther posted 29 assists in 30 games as a senior) has done for the franchise. Shea, 6-1 and 176 pounds, is left-handed.

An emotional loss: Hockey Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk died Tuesday of stomach cancer. He was 57 years old, and shared a history with Bowness dating to the 1980s. Bowness and Hawerchuk both were part of the Jets organization from 1981-89, first as teammates and then when Bowness transitioned to coaching Hawerchuk.

"There's great athletes and there's elite people and Dale is both," Bowness said. "Just a solid, solid person. I was proud to call him a teammate. Unfortunately, again I'm aging myself, I was able to play with him and then coach him later on. It was thrill. I only played with him a little bit because I wasn't good enough. When I coached, you get to know him a lot better. You start to see different things from a coaching perspective."

Bowness said he remembers that Hawerchuk emptied out the pool at his house just to paint a Jets logo at the bottom of it.

"We lost a huge part of our Jet family," Bowness said.

Stars general manager Jim Nill was also Hawerchuk's teammate in Winnipeg from 1984-88.

Small alteration: Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin has had to make a small adjustment to his equipment this series: adding a white strip of tape to the knob of his goalie stick. An obscure rule in the NHL rule book states that goalies must have white tape on their knob. Khudobin uses green.

Khudobin said a lineman told him about it in Game 3, and has used a strip of white tape since.

"But the main referee came in Game 3 and he was like, 'You've gotta do the white,'" Khudobin said. "And I'm like, 'Who said that? Did they ask to do that?' And he was like, 'No, Toronto called it.' So right now, I put some kind of a white stripe on it."

Briefly: Stars defenseman Stephen Johns and goaltender Ben Bishop remained unfit to play. For the fourth straight game, Taylor Fedun played in Johns' place. For the third straight game, Khudobin started in goal instead of Bishop.

BTS share teaser video for their upcoming English song ‘Dynamite’ - NME

K-pop group BTS have shared a teaser trailer for their upcoming English song 'Dynamite', set for release on August 21.

The 28-second clip shows the group dancing in front of a large "disco" sign, with a brief snippet of the song's chorus audible. Watch it below:

The outfit, comprised of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, announced the single and forthcoming album during a broadcast on V Live on July 26, but did not share the track's name until earlier this month.

"We have prepared a new single for ARMY, set for August 21," BTS said in the livestream.

"We are preparing an album for the second half of this year, but decided to first release a single because we wanted to reach our fans as soon as possible. Due to COVID-19, people around the world have been going through tough times and we wanted to share some positive energy with our fans."

A few weeks later, they announced that their latest concert film, Break The Silence: The Movie, will debut in the US on September 24. The movie follows the K-pop giants on their 'Love Yourself: Speak Yourself World Tour', which took place in 2019.

Earlier this year they broke the Guinness World Record for most-viewed concert livestream, with an online performance in June.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also announced the Queensland town of Goondiwindi will be added to the border bubble with New South Wales. Premier Palaszczuk said there were no plans to ease any of the restrictions in her state. The state currently has six active cases of COVID-19.

消委會測試市面上的薯條、薯格及薯餅，包括麥當勞、KFC、豪大大雞排等連鎖快餐小食店，發現樣本當中含有可致癌物質丙烯酰胺，有些更超出歐盟法規基準水平含量，即刻看看是哪一款！

薯條是不少人的最愛，更是不少人的Comfort Food！不過消費者委員會（下稱「消委會」）近日就抽樣測試十間快餐店薯條、薯格及薯餅產品，並公佈報告，十款薯條、薯格均被驗出含有「丙烯酰胺」，當中有三款都超出標準，最誇張竟超標90%。

「丙烯酰胺」是一種有廣泛工業用途的物質，被國際癌症研究機構評為「可能令人類致癌」，每公斤薯條或薯格含量超過500微克就爲之超標。是次消委會抽查了麥當勞、KFC、Jollibee、Five Guys、Shake Shack、豪大大雞排、Green Common、MOS Burger、宜家家居美食站以及意粉屋十間食肆。

消委會同時為檢測了這十個樣本的脂肪和納含量，並為此兩項數值評分，連同「丙烯酰胺」評分，再計算出總評分。下圖就列出這三項數值數據，以及消委會給予的總評分。至於「丙烯酰胺」超標90%的就是下圖最後一間。

報告結果顯示，十間快餐店炸薯產品當中，Five Guys炸薯條、意粉屋星星薯餅以及宜家家居的脆薯格「丙烯酰胺」含量超標，Five Guys更超標9成，在是次消委會調查中獲最低分。

Actress Charlotte Kirk allegedly at center of Ron Meyer's NBCUniversal exit - Page Six

The woman that former NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer allegedly had a brief "consensual affair" and subsequently entered into a settlement with, leading to his exit from the company, is reportedly British actress Charlotte Kirk.

According to Variety, the alleged affair between Kirk, 28, and Meyer, 75, occurred eight years ago.

In a statement on Tuesday, the exec, who was ousted after 25 years at NBCUniversal, claimed that once others became aware of the settlement with an unnamed woman, third-parties, "continuously attempted to extort me into paying them money" by threatening to publish false claims about Meyer or falsely implicate NBCUniversal in the ordeal.

Meyer gave little information about the settlement other than that the woman with whom he'd had the brief affair "made false accusations against me."

Kirk — whose film credits include "Ocean's 8," "How to be Single," and "Vice" — previously engaged in an extramarital affair with former Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara, 55, in 2013 and 2014. That particular tryst also resulted in resignation, as leaked text messages and allegations that Tsujihara attempted to use his position to get Kirk film and television spots, prompted his exit from Warner Bros. in 2019.

Kirk later came to Tsujihara's defense, telling Daily Mail that he did nothing wrong during their time together. She also denied leaking their personal text messages.

Neither Meyer, nor Kirk, has confirmed the actress as the unnamed woman in question, but Kirk's lawyer told Variety that he's "never done a settlement with Ron Meyer on anything."

On Tuesday, NBCU CEO Jeff Shell said in a statement that Meyer "had acted in a manner which we believe is not consistent with our company policies or values. Based on Ron's disclosure of these actions, we have mutually concluded that Ron should leave the company, effective immediately."

Reps for Kirk did not immediately return Page Six's request for comment.

Nintendo’s Indie World delights with multiple games launching - VentureBeat

Nintendo livestreamed one of its Indie World Showcase presentations to Twitch and YouTube this morning. This comes as fans continue to harbor anxiety about the future of the Nintendo Switch's lineup. So far, the publisher has only revealed Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the fall, and that game is due out October 30. But while Nintendo should have more to announce soon — like the 3D Mario remasters — indie games are doing an admirable job keeping the Switch feeling fresh.

The Indie World had a number of standout announcements. Supergiant Games is releasing Hades on Switch this fall. Untitled Goose Game is getting a cooperative mode in September. And the survival game Subnautica is hitting Nintendo's platform in 2021.

But the most exciting reveals were the multiple games that "shadow dropped" on the eShop today. Shadow drop is a colloquial term that fans use when a company announces a game and then releases it on the same day. And Nintendo packed its Indie World with shadow drops. Here are all of them:

Raji: an Ancient Epic

Raji is an action adventure game that puts players in control of a young girl who must stand up against mythological creatures in ancient India.

It is available now for $25 — although it is temporarily discounted to $22.50.

Spiritfarer

In Spiritfarer, you play as Stella. Her job is to ferry the deceased to the land of the dead. While that might sound intense, the game's vibe is going for something closer to chill management sim.

It's available now for $30 on the eShop.

A Short Hike

A Short Hike was one of my favorite games of 2019. It's a concise 3D platformer that looks like Animal Crossing or lo-fi Banjo-Kazooie. But it feels great to play and explore, and I've since played through it at least three times. And I'm gonna do a fourth on Switch.

It's available now for $8 on Nintendo eShop — although it's temporarily discounted to $7.20.

Takeshi and Hiroshi

Takeshi and Hiroshi is a claymation-style game where an older brother must build games for his younger sibling. The idea is that you must make tweaks to simple games to fit your brother's mood. Charming is an overused descriptor, but this game deserves it.

It's available now for $9 on the eShop — but you can get it at a temporary discounted price of $8.09.

Manifold Garden

Manifold Garden is one of them non-Euclidean situations. Geometry and gravity follow their own rules, and you must manipulate them to navigate the environment.

It's available now on the eShop for $20 (temporarily $18). But you can also get it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store on PC.

Evergate

Evergate is a 2D puzzle platformer. The key mechanics involve slowing down time to aim your character's soulflame at crystals around the world. Successfully striking these crystals gives you more energy to perform jumps and other maneuvers.

It's available now on the eShop for $20 (temporarily $17).

What about a big Nintendo Direct?

Nintendo hasn't had a substantial Direct video presentation since March nor a large general Direct all year. And the company is definitely working on one. It's going to announce the aforementioned 3D Mario remasters, but it's also lining up partners.

Unlike Xbox or PlayStation events, third-party developers and publishers are desperate for a Nintendo Direct. Most companies know how to get the attention of audiences on Xbox or PlayStation. But Nintendo's audience is a bit more difficult to rally.

And where there is a will to put together a Direct, Nintendo will find a way — soon.

　８月19日。福岡県福岡市・大濠公園能楽堂において第61期王位戦▲木村一基王位（47歳）－△藤井聡太棋聖（18歳）戦、１日目の対局が始まりました。

　８時43分。まず淡い薄緑色の涼やかな羽織姿で登場した藤井挑戦者。これは師匠・杉本昌隆八段がプレゼントしたものだそうです。

　８時52分。木村王位登場。小豆色の落ち着いた色合の羽織です。目をひくのは、黒いスポーツ用マスク。これは渡辺明新名人の「新手」で、名人戦七番勝負の序盤で採用して大きく話題となりました。

　木村王位はその渡辺流を踏襲したのかどうか。

　2008年、渡辺竜王は最強の挑戦者である羽生善治名人を相手に、将棋史上初の３連敗から４連勝という離れ業を演じています。両者の肩書はいずれも当時。「渡辺竜王、羽生名人」という響きは、多くの将棋ファンにとってはなじみ深いものと思われます。

　この秋にはもし羽生九段が竜王挑戦、奪取となれば、「渡辺名人、羽生竜王」となります。もしそうなれば時代が巻き戻りながら、ほんの少しだけ「入れ替わっている」感じもします。

　渡辺新手にならったのかどうかはともかく、木村王位は普段からジョギングで体力づくりをしていることはよく知られています。

　本局で使われる駒の書体は水無瀬（みなせ）。木地は「虎斑」（とらふ）という模様が入ったものです。

　虎斑の駒は見た目が大変美しい。ただしその模様が気になるとして、実際の対局では敬遠される場合もあります。本局では木村王位が選んで藤井挑戦者が同意し、その駒となりました。

　対局場は大濠公園能楽堂。昨年は第３局がおこなわれました。当時、挑戦者の立場でそこまで２連敗だった木村王位は１勝を返し、反撃ののろしをあげています。最終的には４勝３敗で王位獲得となりました。

　最近ではこのあたりで、イノシシを追い掛けての大捕物が話題となりました。

　立会人を務めるのは地元福岡市出身の中田功八段（53歳）です。中田八段の門下からは佐藤天彦九段（32歳）という名人位を３期獲得する俊英が出ました。佐藤九段もまた福岡市出身です。

　また副立会人を務める豊川孝弘七段（53歳）は現在、福岡市在住。地元での将棋普及に努めています。

　９時。

「それでは定刻になりましたので、対局を始めてください」

　中田八段が時間になったことを告げます。両対局者は「お願いします」と一礼しました。

　木村王位、しばし目を閉じて瞑想。そして１分を使ったあと、カメラのシャッター音が鳴り響く中、飛車先の歩を伸ばしました。

　藤井挑戦者はいつもの通り、グラスを手にして冷たいお茶を口にします。そしてまたいつもの通り、２手目は飛車の前の歩を手にして、一つ先に進めました。

　戦型は相掛かりとなりました。これは木村王位先手番の第２局と同じ戦型です。

　進んで藤井棋聖、木村王位の順に飛車先の歩を交換します。

　そして23手目。木村王位は五段目に飛車を引きました。これが木村王位の工夫です。

　時刻は10時を過ぎました。現在は24手目、藤井挑戦者が７筋の歩を突いた局面まで進んでいます。

Even a man trying to gain attention by "proposing" to Fan Bingbing did not affect the Chinese actress' appetite.

Last week, a video of a Chinese man who said he was Fan's loyal fan went viral on Weibo, as he claimed to have 20 million yuan (S$3.9 million) and wanted to marry her.

The middle-age man, reportedly a nouveau riche, was ridiculed by Chinese netizens. They said that he should take a good look at himself and that the actress was out of his league.

Other netizens said his wealth was unlikely to attract Fan, who topped Forbes' China Celebrity List in 2017 with estimated earnings of 300 million yuan per year.

Netizens later reported that the man was fond of producing videos which are either wacky or related to food.

Fan, who turns 39 in September, has so far not reacted to the video. However, on Monday night (Aug 17), she posted several photos of herself having dinner on Weibo with the caption: "Dinner in summer. A little bit too full."

She looked to be in good spirits and even winked in one of the images.

Fan, who last made a cameo appearance in the war movie Air Strike (2018), has yet to make a full return to the Chinese entertainment industry after she was embroiled in a tax-evasion scandal in 2018. She broke off with her fiance Li Chen in June 2019.

YouTuber and Power 98 FM deejay Darryl Ian Koshy, also known as Dee Kosh, has admitted to texting a 15-year-old boy with what he called a "questionable tone" and apologised "to all the people who have suffered from this".

In a statement on Monday night (Aug 17), Dee Kosh said about the messages: "My tone was questionable, but there was absolutely no intent to groom him.

Let me state categorically that I did not ever have any sexual relations with him or with any minor".

"To me, it was a friendly conversation which was cheeky and inappropriate, but I did not take it any further. In hindsight, I see what was wrong and I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry", he added.

Several police reports have been filed against the 32-year-old following a series of sexual harassment allegations against him over the weekend by alleged victims, mostly young men, on Instagram and Twitter. The police said investigations are ongoing.

Among the accusations were that the YouTuber had solicited nude pictures and offered money to minors in return for sexual favours. Several people also claimed that he approached them under the guise of recruitment, and posted screenshots of conversations with him on Telegram and Instagram direct messages.

At least five alleged victims have posted these conversations online.

Local radio station Power 98 FM, where he hosts weekday night shows, issued a statement on Monday to say that he is currently on leave and that the station "does not tolerate any form of harassment". /TISG

The actress' involvement with Warner Bros. chief Kevin Tsujihara led to his ouster last year.

The woman at the center of NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer's abrupt exit is the same actress whose involvement with Warner Bros. chief Kevin Tsujihara led to the executive's ouster last year.

Sources say Charlotte Kirk, the actress whose affair with Tsujihara had been detailed in a March 2019 Hollywood Reporter story, also had been in a romantic relationship with Meyer. In the case of Tsujihara, text messages showed that he lobbied for Kirk to be considered for a number of Warners movies, an abuse of power that led to his ouster 11 days after THR first reported on the relationship. With Meyer, Kirk's professional trail leading back to Universal was not apparent.

It is unclear why Meyer recently disclosed the relationship to his bosses, but, according to his own statement, "other parties learned of the settlement [between Meyer and the unnamed woman] and have continuously attempted to extort me into paying them money or else they intended to falsely implicate NBCUniversal, which had nothing to do with this matter, and to publish false allegations about me." NBCU CEO Jeff Shell broke the news to staff regarding Meyer's ouster on Tuesday, saying that Meyer "acted in a manner which we believe is not consistent with our company policies or values."

In his own statement, Meyer admitted he had a consensual affair with a woman and that it was brief. Sources say Kirk did work for a charity that involved autism that Meyer backed (Kirk, herself, identifies as on the autism spectrum).

"After I disclosed this matter to the company, we mutually decided that I should step down from my role as Vice Chairman of NBCUniversal," Meyer said in a statement.

Meyer's accusation of extortion mirrors that of Brett Ratner, who in a series of text messages that THR revealed in March 2019, suggested she was shaking down Tsujihara. Ratner, who was involved in the Tsujihara coverup and tried to run interference as Kirk's demands for auditions became more urgent, texted her,  "You can't take back the extortion u have committed because u have sent text and emails asking for these auditions and jobs." By contrast, Meyer implies that a third party is involved in extracting money in exchange for silence.

Like Tsujihara, Meyer was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood when he became involved with Kirk, an actress who went on to land small roles in Ocean's 8 and How to Be Single. She was involved with both men around the same time, beginning in 2013 with Tsujihara. Kirk, who most recently starred in and wrote the horror film The Reckoning, also had a relationship with billionaire James Packer.

　七番勝負はここまで藤井棋聖が３連勝をしています。

　藤井棋聖はあと１勝で王位獲得となります。もしそうなれば棋聖とあわせて二冠達成。18歳１か月の史上最年少で二冠同時保持となります。また規定により八段に昇段。こちらもまた史上最年少記録となります。

　カド番に追い込まれた木村王位。ここから巻き返すことはできるでしょうか。

　将棋界では３連敗から４連勝の例は過去に２回しかありません。

　１度目は2008年度竜王戦七番勝負。渡辺明竜王が羽生善治挑戦者に３連敗から４連勝しました。

　２度目は2009年度王位戦七番勝負。深浦康市王位が木村一基挑戦者に３連敗から４連勝しました。木村現王位はこの時、巻き返されてしまった側でした。粘りが身上の木村王位。11年後の今シリーズではここから、逆の立場から逆転を目指すことになります。

　藤井聡太棋聖の2020年度成績は将棋連盟が公式に発表している分だけで18勝３敗（勝率0.857）。

　６月からのハードスケジュールをものとものせず、今年度もハイペースで勝ち続けています。

　一方の木村王位は６勝５敗（勝率0.545）。

　５敗のうちの３敗は今期王位戦での敗戦です。

　対局は19日９時に始まります。

　８時43分、まず藤井挑戦者が対局室に入りました。淡い緑の夏らしい羽織姿です。

　８時52分頃、木村王位入室。渡辺明新名人と同様の、黒いランニング用マスクをつけての登場でした。

What Is QAnon, the Viral Pro-Trump Conspiracy Theory? - The New York Times

If you're spending a lot of time online these days — and thanks to the pandemic, many of us are — you've probably heard of QAnon, the sprawling internet conspiracy theory that has taken hold among some of President Trump's supporters.

But unless you're very online, you likely still have questions about what exactly is going on.

QAnon was once a fringe phenomenon — the kind most people could safely ignore. But in recent months, it's gone mainstream. Twitter, Facebook and other social networks have been flooded with QAnon-related false information about Covid-19, the Black Lives Matter protests and the 2020 election. QAnon supporters have also been trying to attach themselves to other activist causes, such as the anti-vaccine and anti-child-trafficking movements, in an effort to expand their ranks.

QAnon has also seeped into the offline world, with some believers charged with violent crimes, including one QAnon follower accused of murdering a mafia boss in New York last year and another who was arrested in April and accused of threatening to kill Joseph R. Biden Jr., the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned that QAnon poses a potential domestic terror threat.

Last week, QAnon reached a new milestone when Marjorie Taylor Greene, an avowed QAnon supporter from Georgia, won a Republican primary in a heavily conservative district, setting her up for a near-certain election to Congress in November. After Ms. Greene's win, Mr. Trump called her a "future Republican star."

QAnon is an incredibly convoluted theory, and you could fill an entire book explaining its various tributaries and sub-theories. But here are some basic things you should know.

QAnon is the umbrella term for a sprawling set of internet conspiracy theories that allege, falsely, that the world is run by a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles who are plotting against Mr. Trump while operating a global child sex-trafficking ring.

QAnon followers believe that this clique includes top Democrats including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and George Soros, as well as a number of entertainers and Hollywood celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres and religious figures including Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama. Many of them also believe that, in addition to molesting children, members of this group kill and eat their victims in order to extract a life-extending chemical from their blood.

According to QAnon lore, Mr. Trump was recruited by top military generals to run for president in 2016 in order to break up this criminal conspiracy, end its control of politics and the media, and bring its members to justice.

Not by a long shot. Since it began, QAnon has incorporated elements of many other conspiracy theory communities, including claims about the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the existence of U.F.O.s, and the 9/11 "truther" movement.

QAnon Anonymous, a podcast about the QAnon movement, calls QAnon a "big tent conspiracy theory" because it is constantly evolving and adding new features and claims. But the existence of a global pedophile cabal is the core tenet of QAnon, and the one that most, if not all, of its followers believe.

In October 2017, a post appeared on 4chan, the notoriously toxic message board, from an anonymous account calling itself "Q Clearance Patriot." This poster, who became known simply as "Q," claimed to be a high-ranking intelligence officer with access to classified information about Mr. Trump's war against the global cabal.

Q predicted that this war would soon culminate in "The Storm" — an appointed time when Mr. Trump would finally unmask the cabal, punish its members for their crimes and restore America to greatness.

It's a reference to a cryptic remark Mr. Trump made during an October 2017 photo op. Posing alongside military generals, Mr. Trump said, "You guys know what this represents? Maybe it's the calm before the storm."

QAnon believers pointed to this moment as proof that Mr. Trump was sending coded messages about his plans to break up the global cabal, with the help of the military.

Q's identity is still unknown, although there have been hints and speculation about it for years. Some speculate that a single internet troll has been posting as Q the entire time; others say that multiple people are involved in posting as Q, or that Q's identity has changed over time.

Making things more complicated is that Q's online home base has changed several times. Q's posts originally appeared on 4chan. Then they moved to 8chan, where they stayed until that site was taken offline last year after the El Paso mass shooting. They now live on 8kun, a site run by the former owner of 8chan. Each of these sites uses a system of identity verification known as a "tripcode" — essentially, a unique digital signature that proves that a series of anonymous posts were written by the same person or people.

"Drops" are what QAnon followers call Q's posts. There have been nearly 5,000 of them so far, and most take the form of a cryptic coded message.

In this post, you can see coded references to "LL" (Loretta Lynch, President Obama's former attorney general), "BC" (Bill Clinton), "HRC" (Hillary Rodham Clinton), and "HUSSEIN" (President Obama), along with references to John Brennan, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and "POTUS" — President Trump.

Many QAnon followers use "Q Drop" apps that collect all of Q's posts in one place, and alert them every time a new post arrives. (One of these apps hit the top 10 paid apps in Apple's App Store before it was pulled down for violating the company's guidelines.) They then post these drops in Facebook groups, chat rooms for the Discord chat app and Twitter threads, and begin discussing and debating what it all means.

Yes and no. QAnon has been described as a "big-budget sequel" to Pizzagate, because it takes the original Pizzagate conspiracy theory — which alleged, falsely, that Mrs. Clinton and her cronies were operating a child sex-trafficking ring out of the basement of a Washington, D.C., pizza restaurant — and adds many more layers of narrative on top of it. But many people believe in both theories, and for many QAnon believers, Pizzagate represented a kind of conspiracy theory on-ramp.

One new element in QAnon is a number of clear and specific predictions about when and how "The Storm" would play out. For years, Q has predicted that mass arrests of cabal members would occur on certain days, that certain government reports would reveal the cabal's misdeeds, and that Republicans would win numerous seats in the 2018 midterm elections.

None of those predictions came true. But most QAnon believers didn't care. They simply found ways to reframe the narrative and ignore the discrepancies, and moved on.

It's hard to say, because there's no official membership directory, but the number is not small. Even if you count only the hard-core QAnon believers — excluding "QAnon-lite" adherents who might believe in a deep state plot against Mr. Trump, but not a cabal of child-eating Satanists — the number may be at least in the hundreds of thousands.

Some of the most popular QAnon groups on Facebook have more than 100,000 members apiece, and Twitter recently announced it was taking actions to limit the reach of more than 150,000 QAnon-associated accounts. A recent report by NBC News found that Facebook had conducted an internal study of QAnon's presence on its platform, and it concluded that there were thousands of QAnon groups, with millions of members between them.

That number has probably grown during the pandemic, as people stuck indoors turn to the internet for entertainment and socializing and wind up being pulled into the QAnon community. A recent article in The Wall Street Journal found that membership in 10 large Facebook groups devoted to QAnon had grown by more than 600 percent since the start of lockdowns.

A common misconception is that QAnon is purely a political movement. But it functions, for people who believe in it, as both a social community and a source of entertainment.

Some people have compared QAnon to a massive multiplayer online game, because of the way it invites participants to cocreate a kind of shared reality filled with recurring characters, shifting story lines and intricate puzzle-solving quests. QAnon has also been compared to a church, in that it provides its followers with a social support structure as well as an organizing narrative for their everyday lives.

Adrian Hon, a game designer who has written about QAnon's similarity to alternate-reality games, says that believers "open a fascinating fantasy world of secret wars and cabals and Hillary Clinton controlling things, and it offers convenient explanations for things that feel inexplicable or wrong about the world."

Even though Q's posts appear on fringe message boards, the QAnon phenomenon owes much of its popularity to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, which have amplified QAnon messages and recommended QAnon groups and pages to new people through their algorithms.

In addition, QAnon believers have used social media to harass, intimidate and threaten their perceived enemies, and to seed other types of misinformation that wind up influencing public debate. Several of the most popular conspiracy theories on the internet this year — such as "Plandemic," a documentary containing false and dangerous claims about Covid-19, and a viral conspiracy theory that falsely claimed that Wayfair, the online furniture company, was trafficking children — have been amplified and popularized by QAnon followers.

Some of these networks have started trying to remove QAnon content from their platforms. Twitter recently banned thousands of QAnon accounts, saying they had engaged in coordinated harassment. Facebook is reportedly coming up with its own QAnon containment strategy. But these interventions may be too little, too late.

It's true that much of QAnon's subject matter is recycled from earlier conspiracy theories. But QAnon is fundamentally an internet-based movement that operates in a different way, and at a different scale, than anything we've seen before.

For starters, QAnon is deeply participatory, in a way that few other popular conspiracy theories have been. Followers congregate in chat rooms and Facebook groups to decode the latest Q posts, discuss their theories about the news of the day, and bond with their fellow believers. The Atlantic has called it "the birth of a new religion."

There's also the basic danger of what QAnon followers actually believe. It's one thing to have a polarized political discourse with heated disagreements; it's another to have a faction of Americans who think, with complete sincerity, that the leaders of the opposition party are kidnapping and cannibalizing innocent children.

Combine those violent, paranoid fantasies with the fact that QAnon followers have been charged with committing serious crimes in Q's name, and it's no wonder people are worried.

Mr. Trump is the central and heroic figure in QAnon's core narrative — the brave patriot who was chosen to save America from the global cabal. As a result, QAnon believers parse Mr. Trump's words and actions closely, looking for hidden meanings. When Mr. Trump says the number 17, they take it as a sign that he is sending secret messages to them. (Q is the 17th letter of the alphabet.) When he wears a pink tie, they interpret it as a sign that he is freeing trafficked children. (Some hospitals use "code pink" as a shorthand for a child abduction in progress.)

Mr. Trump has never directly addressed QAnon, but he recently declined to denounce or disavow the movement when asked about his support for Ms. Green, the QAnon-affiliated congressional candidate. And he has shared posts from QAnon followers dozens of times on his social media accounts.

Yes. For months, QAnon followers have been hijacking #SaveTheChildren — which started out as a fund-raising campaign for a legitimate anti-child-trafficking organization — as a recruiting tactic.

What they're doing, basically, is using false and exaggerated claims about child trafficking to attract the attention of a new audience — in this case, worried parents. Then, they attempt to steer the conversation to QAnon talking points — saying that the reason children are being trafficked, for example, is because the global cabal wants to harvest a supposedly life-extending chemical from their blood.

This particular tactic has been especially problematic for legitimate anti-trafficking groups, who have had to deal with clogged hotlines and rampant misinformation as QAnon has latched on to their issue.

Merely posting #SaveTheChildren doesn't mean your friends are QAnon believers. They could have just stumbled on a post about child trafficking that resonated with them and decided to share it. But they, and you, should know that those posts are part of a concerted QAnon strategy.

'Filth': Mexican president blasts purported cash bribes seen in viral video - Reuters

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - An unverified video that appears to show former Mexican congressional staffers counting piles of cash has exposed the "filth" corrupting politics and shows why the last government's overhaul of the oil and gas market was tainted, Mexico's president said on Tuesday.

The video, which went viral on YouTube on Monday, shows plastic bags filled with cash bundles apparently being given to two then senior Senate staffers who worked for the opposition National Action Party (PAN).

The source of the video remains unclear, as does the date and location it was recorded. here

In his daily news conference on Tuesday, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador showed the full video, and said he wondered if it may have been given to prosecutors by the former chief of state-run oil company Pemex, Emilio Lozoya, who faces bribery charges in a corruption trial that has shaken Mexican politics.

"This video that has come to light is quite strong. It shows the filth of the regime of corruption," Lopez Obrador said. He said he had no wider knowledge of the video.

Lopez Obrador, who swept to power in 2018 on an anti-corruption platform, has sought to paint former administrations as part of a political elite beholden to the interests of the wealthy business groups.

A leftist who favors state firms to lead energy production, he has also sought to roll back sweeping reforms that were enacted in 2013-2014 to give the private sector a larger role in Mexico's energy sector.

Lopez Obrador on Monday said the public should see all evidence linked to bribes that he says were paid to lawmakers to aid the passage of those reforms.

Lozoya last week filed a complaint accusing former President Enrique Pena Nieto and a senior aide of ordering a wide-ranging bribery scheme.

Barcelona president Bartomeu opens door to Coutinho stay - Goal.com

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has opened the door for Philippe Coutinho to play for the club next season. 

After a season on loan with Bayern Munich, Coutinho was tipped to be sold to the Premier League, with his agent Kia Joorabchian claiming his client is keen on a return to England.

Bartomeu, though, has said that the 28-year-old could be at Camp Nou next season if incoming head coach Ronald Koeman desires.

"The head coach will make the decision," Bartomeu said when quizzed on Coutinho's future. "If he wants him to continue, next year he will play with us."

Coutinho scored two goals in Barcelona's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich last week. Unfortunately, they were Bayern's seventh and eighth goals in an 8-2 demolition that has already led to head coach Quique Setien and sporting director Eric Abidal shown the door. 

The Blaugrana are in need of fresh faces on the playing squad, but Bartomeu has admitted that his team's financial situation will make it difficult to bring in new talent. 

"Barca has money," Bartomeu said. "The problem is the salary mass. We have salary limits based on income. Therefore, we must reduce the salary mass that the club has to be able to bring in new players." 

Bartomeu hinted that there would be a possible clear-out of some big names at the club to make room for fresh faces. 

"I do not want to speak ill of anyone and I want to praise the team, they have been winning titles for 12 years without pause," Bartomeu said. "It is time to start saying goodbye with all honors to some players."

Barca may need to sell players to raise funds for incoming transfers, but Bartomeu revealed a host of names in his squad that would not be for sale. 

"Who is non-transferable? Leo Messi. He knows it. He is the best player in the world," Bartomeu said. "I would also speak of [Marc-Andre] ter Stegen, [Frenkie] de Jong, [Clement] Lenglet, [Ousmane] Dembele and [Antoine] Griezmann."

Bartomeu also added teenage sensation Ansu Fati to that list, after revealing there have been offers for his team's 17-year-old star.

"Some players already know that they are not available," Bartomeu said. "We have received offers. Ansu Fati has a large market but we will not sell him. He is non-transferable."

The pressure was again all on Paris Saint-Germain. Only this time they didn't feel it at all.

When Neymar stepped off the team bus at the Estadio da Luz for Tuesday's Champions League semi-final with RB Leipzig, his suit jacket was off, the top buttons on his white shirt were open and he was carrying a sound system.

He looked more like DJ rocking up to a club than a footballer preparing for the biggest game in his team's history.

The message was clear: PSG were here to enjoy the game, not bottle it.

From the very first minute, they played with an intensity and belief that appeared to take their opponents completely by surprise.

In his pre-match press conference, Julian Nageslmann warned his players: "Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are top players. We need to stop them as a team.

"It will be difficult. We have to avoid losing the ball, because PSG are very strong on the counterattack, but we'll try to take the game by the scruff of the neck."

They did nothing of the sort. PSG ran right at Leipzig when they had the ball, and then swarmed them when they lost it.

Consequently, it never took the French champions long to recover possession, and they repeatedly did so in dangerous areas.

Even Neymar, a player for so longer questioned over his defensive contribution, hassled and harried at every opportunity.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel described him beforehand as "a leader", "a different kind of leader" but a leader nonetheless. The former Barcelona man backed up his coach's claim.

Like all of his team-mates, Neymar knew that a last-four meeting with Leipzig represented a gilt-edged opportunity for PSG to reach their first-ever final.

To their credit, they never looked like passing it up.

Neymar played a key role: he won the free-kick from which Marquinhos headed home the opener just 13 minutes in before creating the second for Angel Di Maria with a gorgeous back-flick.

However, the latter was the star of the show for PSG.

Much of the build-up had been dominated by Kylian Mbappe's return to full fitness for the semi-final, having made a game-changing impact off the bench in the dramatic comeback against Atalanta in the quarters.

As it transpired, though, Di Maria's availability was of greater significance.

With the veteran Argentine back in the starting line-up in place of Pablo Sarabia, PSG looked far more balanced in attack and, consequently, far more threatening.

Mbappe's pace bailed them out against a tiring Atalanta but such last-gasp heroics weren't required here. With Di Maria on the right side of the attack, PSG were dominant and decisive from the first whistle.

He racked up two assists either side of his coolly taken goal, first crossing for an unmarked Marquinhos to open the scoring, and then Juan Bernat to kill the game off as a contest midway through the second half.

Leipzig may have been as poor as Nagelsmann's choice of suit but this was vintage stuff from Di Maria. Literally.

Not since 2013-14, when he played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's Champions League win has he been involved in as many goals in a single campaign (eight).

Di Maria, of course, was the Blancos' best player in the final that year.

PSG may have two superstars in Neymar and Mbappe but, on the evidence of Tuesday night, you wouldn't bet against their under-rated Argentine accomplice proving just as decisive in Sunday's decider in Lisbon.
