LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In an effort to get more people into fishing and other recreational activities, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission held a Free Fishing and Park Entry Day on Saturday.
This special day, which happens annually on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day weekend, allows free access into any of Nebraska’s many state parks and recreational areas.
For some, this day has served as a gateway to fishing and other outdoor activities, often inspiring them to purchase park permits.
Several noteworthy festivities were also held across Nebraska on Saturday, including fishing derbies and wildflower walks.
Lincoln recreationalist Delmer Vanlengen says he thinks the event is “a great idea to encourage and get people started.”
“Pretty good chance that we will get a camp permit now and spend some more time at some other places during the summer months,” he said.
Nebraska Game and Parks is also hosting several events for Memorial Day weekend.
