In overnight twist, Devendra Fadnavis takes oath as Maharashtra CM - The News Minute Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:51 PM PST In a surprise move, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a second term at Raj Bhavan at 8am on Satuday morning. Ajit Pawar, of the National Congress Party, took the oath as deputy CM.   "We wanted a star government in Maharashtra, not a "khichdi" government. Keeping that in mind, Ajit Pawar approached me and other leaders. We went to the Governor and put forth our claim. The Governor asked for the President's rule to be revoked, and asked us to take oath. We are sure there will be a stable government in Maharashtra now," Devendra Fadnavis said, after taking the oath. This comes after NCP's Sharad Pawar on Friday evening declared that Uddhav Thackeray would take over as CM for a full five-year term, following a two-hour joint meeting between the Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena alliance.  "Since the results were announced, no party was able to form a government, Maharashtra is facing many issues and farmers are in distress. With this in mind, we have decided to form a stable government," Ajit Pawar said.  Ajit Pawar, nephew of Sharad Pawar, had told the media that he came to the decision to support the BJP. The meeting lasted 45 minutes.  On Friday night, it seemed almost certain that Uddhav Thackeray would take over as CM of the state, with the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena forming an alliance. However Uddhav Thackeray had not confirmed the decision and had sought time to mull over the proposal.  Out of the 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly, the BJP won 105 seats, the NCP won 54 seats, while Congress and Shiv Sena won 44 and 56 respectively. There are 13 elected independent candidates. However, according to reports, only 22 MLAs have offered support to Ajit Pawar.   Before the state Assembly elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena had joined hands to contest the elections, but the Sena removed itself from the 30-year-old alliance with the BJP as the latter would not offer  Uddhav Thackeray the Chief Ministership. Devendra Fadnavis takes oath as Maharashtra CM; NCP's Ajit Pawar becomes Deputy CM - Livemint Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:21 PM PST Mumbai: In a dramatic turn of overnight events, arch rivals Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar joined hands to form government in Maharashtra on early Saturday morning. The development came less than 12 hours after NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced unanimity over the choice of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to be backed by NCP and Congress. On Saturday morning, former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis returned to the top post and took oath at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai followed by senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar taking oath as the deputy chief minister. The oath was administered by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at the Raj Bhawan. The reasons behind the development were immediately not known. In the assembly polls, the BJP won 105 seats and NCP had won 54 seats in the recently concluded polls. Shiv Sena had got 56, while the Congress had won 44 seats. Ajit Pawar is the nephew of Sharad Pawar and has earlier served as the former deputy chief minister. It is the first time that NCP and BJP have joined hands to form government. Interestingly, alleged corruption charges against Ajit Pawar was one of the mainstay of BJP's state campaign in 2014 assembly elections. "People had given us a clear mandate, but Shiv Sena tried to ally with other parties after results, as a result President's rule was imposed. Maharashtra needed a stable govt not a 'khichdi' government," Fadnavis told ANI after the oath taking ceremony on Saturday morning. "From result day to this day no party was able to form government, Maharashtra was facing many problems including farmer issues, so we decided to form a stable government," a tweet by ANI said quoting Ajit Pawar after taking oath. NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena were in talks for over a week now to form government in the state. Sharad Pawar on late Saturday evening had told reporters that the leadership question was worked and there was complete unanimity over Thackeray's name. Uddhav Thackeray to lead next Maharashtra govt, as Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress form alliance - The News Minute Posted: 22 Nov 2019 08:21 PM PST The Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena decided on Friday that Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray would head the Maharashtra government. Speaking to the media after the first joint two-hour meeting of the three parties, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar said, "We all have come to a consensus that Uddhav Thackeray will be the Chief Minister." The alliance has decided that Uddhav Thackeray would be set to take over as CM for the next 5 years. He added that Friday's discussions centred around the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), saying that important decisions have been taken in this regard. However, Uddhav Thackeray has reportedly sought time to think over the proposal and is likely to convey the same to the NCP-Congress later on Friday night or Saturday morning, according to a party source. "Discussions were positive, fruitful," Uddhav Thackeray told the media after the joint meeting of the three parties. After hectic parleys between NCP and the Congress high command last week, the post-poll alliance was finalised on Friday. Maharashtra Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who was on a weekend trip to Delhi for a conference called by President Ram Nath Kovind, has cancelled the trip as the alliance is planning to stake claim to form the government on Monday. When the elections resulted in a hung assembly on October 24, talks between the Congress and Sena seemed unlikely due to ideological differences between the two. On November 12, the Governor recommended President's rule be imposed in Maharashtra as none of the political parties came forward to stake claim and form the government. Talks for an unlikely Sena-NCP-Congress alliance gathered momentum after Congress President Sonia Gandhi gave a green signal to party leaders to hold talks with Sena and NCP regarding an alliance. Sharad Pawar has been the go-between man in the formation of this alliance and had met Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi twice over the last few weeks in connection with the matter. The Congress, however, delayed its decision in announcing the Chief Ministership, which led Pawar to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. This led to massive speculation that the NCP was looking to form an alliance with the BJP. Congress leader in charge of Maharashtra Mallikarjun Kharge met Pawar in Mumbai on Thursday, where discussions of forming an alliance took place. On Friday, the final talks were held and the decision was announced. Significantly, after the meeting in Nehru Centre, Worli, Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray took an unscheduled visit to the Balasaheb Thackeray National Memorial and paid homage to the Sena founder. Uddhav Thackeray told the media that he did not want to share "any incomplete information on anything." "The discussions were held in detail and efforts are on to ensure no issues are left out. Discussions are still on. When everything is finalised, we shall share with you," Uddhav Thackeray said. Among the constraints being discussed within the Sena is how to prevent two independent power centres from developing if Uddhav Thackeray becomes the Chief Minister -- one at the government level and the other at the party level. Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said that Friday's discussions were very positive. "However, the talks are not yet completed. It will be continued again tomorrow," Chavan said. NCP leader Praful Patel also spoke on similar lines and said that after everything is finalised, it will be informed to the media. The proposed 'Maha Vikas Aghadi' comprising the Sena-NCP-Congress is likely to hold a press conference on Saturday where the final details will be shared with the media. Early Galaxy S11 renders show Samsung joining the giant camera rectangle trend - Circuit Breaker Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:46 PM PST We knew this was coming, but the first batch of early renders for the upcoming Galaxy S11 show that Samsung might be joining Apple and Google in the trend of sticking massive rectangular camera modules on the back of its phones. The renders come from noted hardware leaker OnLeaks, over at 91Mobiles. To be clear, these aren't official Samsung images; they're renders created by OnLeaks based on the current rumors and leaks going around about Samsung's latest flagship. OnLeaks does have a pretty good track record when it comes to their renders, though, correctly showcasing the Galaxy Note 10, iPhone 11, OnePlus 7T Pro, and other phones months before release — so even if the eventual Galaxy S11 doesn't look exactly like this, there's a good chance it'll be pretty close. The OnLeaks renders show a device that looks fairly similar to the Note 10 from the front, with a bezel-less display and a center-located cutout for a single front-facing camera. The back is where things look to be a little more interesting, with five camera sensors — one of which is rumored to be the new 108-megapixel sensor that Samsung is developing. Other rumored upgrades include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 (or whatever the company's next flagship chip is called) and a 120Hz refresh rate display as major additions on the 2020 models. Given that Samsung tends to announce its S-model phones in February, and the flood of leaks that tend to accompany new hardware, expect to see plenty more on the S11 in the near future — which will hopefully confirm (or refute) OnLeak's renders. More than 1 million T-Mobile customers exposed by breach - TechCrunch Posted: 22 Nov 2019 05:19 PM PST T-Mobile has confirmed a data breach affecting more than a million of its customers, whose personal data (but no financial or password data) was exposed to a malicious actor. The company alerted the affected customers but did not provide many details in its official account of the hack. The company said in its disclosure to affected users that its security team had shut down "malicious, unauthorized access" to prepaid data customers. The data exposed appears to have been: Name Billing address Phone number Account number Rate, plan and calling features (such as paying for international calls) The latter data is considered "customer proprietary network information" and under telecoms regulations they are required to notify customers if it is leaked. The implication seems to be that they might not have done so otherwise. Of course some hacks, even hacks of historic magnitude, go undisclosed sometimes for years. In this case, however, it seems that T-Mobile has disclosed the hack in a fairly prompt manner, though it provided very few details. When I asked, a T-Mobile representative indicated that "less than 1.5 percent" of customers were affected, which of the company's approximately 75 million users adds up to somewhat over a million. The company reports that "we take the security of your information very seriously," a canard we've asked companies to stop saying in these situations. The T-Mobile representative stated that the attack was discovered in early November and shut down "immediately." They did not answer other questions I asked, such as whether it was on a public-facing or internal website or database, how long the data was exposed and what specifically the company had done to rectify the problem. The data listed above is not necessarily highly damaging on its own, but it's the kind of data with which someone might attempt to steal your identity or take over your account. Account hijacking is a fairly common tactic among cyber-ne'er-do-wells these days and it helps to have details like the target's plan, home address and so on at one's fingertips. Leaked Galaxy S11 renders give us our first look at Samsung's next flagship phone - Android Central Posted: 22 Nov 2019 04:21 PM PST The renders reveal a centered hole-punch cutout at the top of the display, identical to the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. Just like the Galaxy S10, the screen will have a slight curve on both sides. As per OnLeaks, the upcoming flagship will have a 6.7-inch display and measure 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8mm. On the back of the phone will be a similar L-shaped camera setup as the upcoming Galaxy A51 and A71 smartphones. However, instead of four cameras on the A-series phones, the Galaxy S11 will come with five rear cameras. In addition to the 108MP primary sensor, the phone will likely include an ultra-wide, telephoto, and 3D ToF cameras. Sadly, though, it is not clear what the fifth sensor will be used for. The renders also reveal that the Galaxy S11 will not have any buttons on the left side. It will have the power as well as volume control buttons on the right side. “The Mandalorian” Recap: Season 1 Episode 3 — Baby Yoda Is Delivered - TVLine Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:39 AM PST "The Mandalorian" Recap: Season 1 Episode 3 — Baby Yoda Is Delivered - TVLine RELATED STORIES This Friday on The Mandalorian, the titular gunslinger got wind of what his well-financed client has planned for the found "child." Was his hefty Beskan steel payday enough to make Mando look the other way? Greef Carga, for one, was delighted to hear that Mando has secured his quarry — and in turn instructed him to deliver it immediately to the Client (Werner Herzog's unnamed character) upon his return. Mando had to ask, as we totally would have, what the Client plans to do with that which he sought. Greef says he has no idea if the guy plans to "eat it or hang it on a wall," but he sure is antsy for it. Arriving back in town, Mando leads the child carrier to the Client's hideaway, as the wee being takes in all the sights and sound and spectacle. The Mandalorian is demonstrably protective of the Child ("Easy with that," he warns a trooper-clad bodyguard who grabs at the carrier), and he keeps a close eye as Dr. Pershing examines and declares it "very healthy" upon delivery. As the Client commends the Mandalorian for living up to his reputation, Mando can't help but ask why seemingly every bounty hunter also had a tracking fob. That, says the client, speaks to the bounty's value, and "to the winner go the spoils!" — in the promised form of a buncha Beskan steel. Mando regards his payday, before inquiring what the Client has planned for the child. Such a question is considered very bad form among hunters in the guild, so the Client instead reminds his hire that these "events are now forgotten." Mando retreats to his kind's underground lair, where he presents a duly impressed Armorer with his stash of steel. Throughout their exchange, you sense that Mando has reverence for the Armorer and what she does, and why. For example, she decides that she has enough steel to form for him a full cuirass (chest plate), and he says that would be a "great honor." No sooner does the Armorer note that such spiffy armor will "draw many eyes" than some of Mando's fellow Mandalorians take notice of what is going on — namely, how his steel carries the marking of the Empire, which was behind the Great Purge that led their people to live hidden, "like sand rats." When Mando is labeled a "coward," the gents come to blows, until the Armorer's words ease tensions. "You are both hunter and prey," she reminds them. She also prompts Mando to acknowledge that he has never removed his helmet, nor let it be removed. Because, "This is the way," she says, after which the others echo her back. Mando declines the Armorer's offer of a mudhorn signet, so she instead will use some leftover steel to arm him with "whistling birds." As she actually forms the cuirass, Mando again flashes back to the purge, and how his parents stowed him away safely in a root cellar (or the  galactic equivalent). Showing up at the cantina in his shiny new duds, Mando this time asks Greef just how many hunters were given fobs for this HVT — and the answer is no less than "all of them." Greef tries to celebrate Mando's success (as well as his own cut of the deal), but Mando simply wants to forge ahead with a new gig, one that will send him chasing a nobleman's bail-skipping son to the Ocean Dunes of Carnac. First, Mando picks Greef's brain about the client's plan for the Child (and his apparently affiliation with the Empire). Greef, though, shrugs it off and advises Mando to put it all behind him. Yet once back in the Razor Crest, where he notices the lever knob that the Child had twisted off to play with, Mando shuts the ship down and heads back to town. At first, he stakes out the Client's place, using tech to eavesdrop as Pershing insists they are to "bring it back alive," whereas the Client huffs, "…extract the necessary material and be done with it!" Mando then stealthy infiltrates the place, felling one trooper after another until he finds Pershing, who has the child sedated and strapped to some sort of scanner. "Please don't hurt him! It's just a child!" pleads the scientist, who states that he was in fact keeping it protected. Mando, with the Child cradled like a football, makes his way out of the hideaway, zapping and torching another wave of trooper types, until at one juncture he finds himself surrounded. This is where Chekhov's whistling birds come into play, as his new toy releases a swarm of tiny missiles that take out the threats. Just then, alllll of the fobs go off back at the cantina, and a John Wick-ian scenario plays out, where Mando attempts to saunter out of town as every passerby draws a pistol on him. Greef appears at the far end of the street, and urges Mando to "put the package down." Mando instead somersaults into the cargo area of a nearby speeder, and lays low there, with the Child tucked safely into a corner, as a massive  shootout commences. Mando does the best he can, vaporizing hunter after hunter, and even depleting his flamethrower. But just when it looks as if he has been bested… all of his Mandalorian pals swoop in via jet packs and lay waste to the rival shooters! "This is the way," the one he got into a scuffle with earlier says, after telling Mando to make a run for this ship. Greef shows up aboard the Razor Crest to confront Mando once more, explaining that he "broke the code." But Mando creates a diversion, zaps Greef so that he tumbles out the door, and then zooms off into the sky, as his jet-packed Mandalorian pal provides escort. Mando then screws off the lever knob, hands it to the Child to fidget with, before jumping into hyperdrive.
