Jungkook of BTS Was Involved in a Car Accident - Teen Vogue Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:44 PM PST Last week, Jungkook of BTS was involved in a car accident, BBC News reported. No one was severely injured in the Saturday (November 2) crash, which involved Jungkook and a taxicab. In a statement released by his management company, Big Hit Entertainment, the company confirmed that Jungkook had been involved in the accident, which occurred in the Hannam district of Seoul, BBC News reported. "Both the victim and Jungkook did not sustain any major injuries," Big Hit told BBC News. "The scene of the accident was resolved and police questioning was completed according to the due process, and an amicable settlement was made with the victim afterwards. We once again apologize to the victim, and we also express apologies for causing concern to fans." According to Big Hit Entertainment's statement, Jungkook said that he was the one at fault in the accident, ABC News reported. The statement said the singer "admitted violating traffic laws." Police investigating the crash told ABC News that an internal probe into the crash is ongoing, and that charges, if any, would be filed when damage is confirmed or the cab driver brings a medical diagnosis following the accident to authorities." Police told ABC News that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. After news of the accident was released, fans on Twitter began sending their well wishes to the singer. Pinterest Launches a Refresh of Its Mobile App - Search Engine Journal Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:34 PM PST ADVERTISEMENT Pinterest has updated the look of its app for iOS and Android with a renewed focus on personalized recommendations and a more efficient use of space. The most obvious change when opening the app after the update is the reduced space around pins. Pinterest is cramming the home feed with as much content as it can while still keeping things aesthetically pleasing. Personal Recommendations The next-most obvious change is the carousel of personal recommendations at the top of the home feed. You can scroll through and tap on one of the topics of interest to open up a dedicated feed. Recommendations are based on the Pinterest activity of the individual user, so it can be an especially effective way to discover new content. Re-organized Navigation Menu Search is now included in the main navigation bar, where you can easily toggle back and forth between the home feed and search results. The 'following' tab can now be accessed in the carousel at the top of the home feed, which brings up a dedicated feed of content only from the users you follow. New Profile Design The classic pinboard design of user profiles has been streamlined into a feed of the user's latest pins from all boards. In one way this feels like taking the 'pin' out of Pinterest and turning it into a clone of Instagram Discover. Although it does make profiles feel less cluttered, and individual boards can still be accessed by tapping on 'more ideas.' Manan Vatsyayana | AFP | Getty Images India on Monday declined to join an Asia Pacific trade pact that would form a major trading bloc involving the region's top economies and cover nearly a third of the world's gross domestic product. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership was an agreement between the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations and six of its large trading partners: China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Negotiations for the trade pact began in 2013 and India's reluctance to open up its markets has been one of the major obstacles over time. Vijay Thakur Singh, a diplomat in charge of East Asian relations for India at the Ministry of External Affairs, said on Monday that India conveyed its decision to not join the RCEP agreement to other member states. Leaders from member states were in Thailand for a number of summits including the 35th ASEAN Summit. "This reflects both our assessment of the current global situation as well as of the fairness and balance of the agreement," Singh told reporters in Bangkok, during a press briefing. "India had significant issues of core interest that remained unresolved." "In the given circumstances, we believe that not joining the agreement is the right decision for India. We would continue to persevere and strengthening our trade, investment and people-to-people relations with this region," Singh said. With trade frictions still dominating the global narrative, Asia needs to look inwards and strengthen regional integration for sustaining and propelling growth. Priyanka Kishore Oxford Economics She declined to expand on what some of those core unresolved interests were at the briefing but added that participating countries were aware of them. Singh also did not say if India would consider joining the trade pact at a later date. "Despite significant concessions and offers of safeguard measures from China, India remains concerned about the potential surge of Chinese imports and what it argues is a lack of progress on its offensive interests, notably services market access," analysts at political consultancy Eurasia Group, wrote in a note Monday note. India is already facing a challenging economic environment: growth is slowing, many of its sectors including manufacturing are struggling, and there are difficulties in creating enough jobs to keep new entrants to the workforce employed. What this means The trade pact is due to be signed next year, according to Thailand. Text for the RCEP agreement is said to have been completed and is awaiting legal reviews before member countries sign the document. Analysts have said that worries over the ongoing U.S.-China trade war, rising American protectionism, and a global economic slowdown added impetus to the negotiations. "With trade frictions still dominating the global narrative, Asia needs to look inwards and strengthen regional integration for sustaining and propelling growth," Priyanka Kishore, head of India and South East Asia for macro and investor services at Oxford Economics, told CNBC before India announced its decision on Monday. She explained affirmation to the free movement of goods, services, and capital within the region would help maintain ASEAN's centrality in global trade. That would lead to renewed economic opportunities, support domestic job creation and help countries sustain strong growth in the long run. Kishore, as well as other experts, have previously said being part of RCEP would help India integrate better into global supply chains. Eurasia Group analysts added that under RCEP, market access, especially for services, and regulatory requirements will be lighter than under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership — the trade pact which replaced the Trans-Pacific Partnership after the United States withdrew from that agreement. "This limits the economic benefits of the deal, especially in the short term; India's absence from the pact would also weaken the gains," the analysts said, adding there will be "considerable impact over the medium term" as market access barriers are gradually reduced. India's relations in the region Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a number of bilateral meetings in Thailand with countries including Japan, Vietnam, and Australia. He also welcomed the decision to review the trade agreement between ASEAN and India. "India will now try to mitigate the damage done to its relations with ASEAN, Japan and others—as well as the negative message it sends to international businesses and investors about reform prospects in India—by its decision not to move ahead with RCEP at this moment, and perhaps not at all," Eurasia Group analysts said. They added the Indian government will "try to make positive noises about progressing trade talks with the US and EU and will expedite efforts to upgrade its free trade agreement with ASEAN." Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters on Monday that "the door will always be open to India and it has always been our view, and of many that sit around the table, that this is a bigger and better deal with India in it." Kishore said India would likely keep the possibility of joining the RCEP agreement at a later date if other member states went ahead and signed the deal without participation from New Delhi. As the UCLA gymnast tried to relax at a rink last January, her phone would not stop buzzing. One notification from Twitter turned into hundreds within minutes. A video of her floor routine the previous night in Anaheim — a perfect 10 — had gone viral; she was trending on Twitter. "I don't have my notifications on but I was getting all these notification from verified accounts," she recalled. "I didn't know what was happening. When I got home, I refreshed my Twitter page and I had 50,000 new followers. It was crazy. I got screenshots from friends of celebrities tweeting about me and retweeting the video. That's when it kicked in." Advertisement It was a surreal moment for Ohashi, who performed to Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation." She cried when Jackson tweeted the video of her routine. That video now has more than 44 million views. Ohashi was on top of the world, but couldn't capitalize financially from her newfound fame. "As soon as that happened my career was coming to an end," Ohashi said. "I was about to graduate and retire." Ohashi was at the "espn W: Women + Sports Summit" in Newport Beach last week when the NCAA announced it would allow college athletes to "benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness." (Though the details about how it would actually work is still being worked on.) She had already been championing the bill signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, which will permit college athletes in the state to get paid through endorsement and sponsorship deals, autograph signings and other similar opportunities. "Many gymnasts peak when they're 16 and they have to make a decision between going to the Olympics and taking money or going to the Olympics and refusing to take money or just going to college," she said. "You're literally 15 years old and making this life-changing decision. "To close someone off from the opportunity to compete in college or to get compensated for being an Olympian is wrong. "A lot of people were reaching out to me at the time and I didn't know what to do or even what I could do. Companies were reaching out to me and saying they want to jump on this opportunity now while I'm enjoying my 15 minutes of fame, and I had to ask them to reach back out in five months when I graduated. Those opportunities are gone by then." While high-profile college football and basketball players go on to the NFL, NBA and WNBA, Ohashi's gymnastics career is over. She's booking speaking engagements and writing poetry, but she can't help but wonder what might have been if she was able to capitalize on her viral video in the immediate aftermath. She hopes the next athlete in her position won't have to wonder. "Those 15 minutes of fame are for real and you want to take advantage of that because it may never come again," she said. "I wanted to put out my book of poetry when people were talking about me, but I couldn't. I had to go through this whole labor process and I wouldn't have been able to promote it or profit from it and I was able to graduate anyway so I waited, but it's frustrating. Flyers' goal: Win in regulation vs. Hurricanes - Yahoo Sports Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:20 PM PST The Philadelphia Flyers will continue a three-game homestand when they battle the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. The Flyers have played back-to-back shootouts -- a 4-3 road win on Friday against the New Jersey Devils followed by a 4-3 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday in 11 rounds. Carter Hart earned the win in goal Friday and Brian Elliott was the hard-luck loser on Saturday, which was the franchise's second-longest shootout. Only a 13-round loss to the New York Rangers in October 2006 was longer in franchise history. Despite the loss, Travis Sanheim scored one of the Flyers' three goals. Sanheim has struggled mightily on both ends of the ice as he fell during one of Toronto's goals. Sanheim's goal was his first since March 3, a span of 29 games. "We need him to be the player that he can be," Philadelphia head coach Alain Vigneault said of Sanheim. "He is fighting it right now. He is going through some growing pains. When he comes out of it, I am very confident that he is going to be a very useful player for this team." Sanheim's goal gave the Flyers a short-lived 3-2 lead early in the third period. "When you're down a little bit, things tend to not go your way and vice versa," Sanheim said. "When you have a ton of confidence, it seems like everything is going in for you. I know there's going to be a stretch coming up for me. Right now, I'm just trying to fight through and be better." LAFC’s Carlos Vela named MLS MVP after record 34-goal season - FOXSports.com Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:25 PM PST LOS ANGELES (AP) — Carlos Vela won Major League Soccer's most valuable player award by shredding scoring records and captaining Los Angeles FC to the best regular season in league history. Vela plans to stick around because he wants to do even more for LAFC next year. Vela accepted the Landon Donovan MVP Award on Monday at Banc of California Stadium after winning nearly 70% of the total vote over LA Galaxy superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Vela scored an MLS-record 34 goals and added 15 assists, setting a new league mark for combined scoring in his second season with the 2-year-old club. "For me, it's just a reward for all the effort and all the work," said Vela, the first Mexican player to win MLS' MVP award. "My teammates are an important part to get this trophy, because they make my work easy," Vela added. "I come every morning to training, and I'm happy because I see my friends. When you work in a place like that, it's just easy. It was easy for me to get all the goals and wins with this team, so for that I say thank you. Sometimes you make more work than me, but in the end I get the credit, so I appreciate that." The award was a somewhat bittersweet conclusion to the 2019 season for the prolific forward and his dominant team. LAFC went 21-4-9 and won the Supporters' Shield while reaching the MLS records for points, goals and goal differential, but lost to Seattle in the Western Conference playoff final last week. While rumors abound of clubs in Europe eager to add Vela to their attack, he is publicly committed to the long-term contract he entered with LAFC two years ago. "Carlos would make a difference in any team in the world," Thorrington said. "But here, he has such an outsized impact. He was here at the ground floor, and he is essentially the cornerstone of our on-field product. The band's verified Instagram account has since posted several other spring shows at the end of March in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, which you can see below, but the long and the short of it is this: Now that the Machine is back in working order, Prophets of Rage is headed to the recycling bin. The semi-supergroup, which formed in 2016, was comprised of RATM members Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk and Tom Morello, in addition to Chuck D of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill's B-Real. Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha has reportedly been working on his solo career since the last time RATM reunited for Coachella in 2007.
