China November exports fall, but import growth hints of recovering demand - Reuters

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:48 PM PST

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's exports in November shrank for the fourth consecutive month, underscoring persistent pressures on manufacturers from the Sino-U.S. war but growth in imports may be a sign that Beijing's stimulus steps are helping to stoke demand.

The 17-month long trade dispute has heightened the risks of a global recession and fueled speculation that China's policymakers could unleash more stimulus as growth in the world's second-largest economy cooled to nearly 30-year lows.

Overseas shipments fell 1.1% from a year earlier last month, customs data showed on Sunday, compared with a 1.0% expansion tipped by a Reuters poll of analysts and a 0.9% drop in October.

Imports unexpectedly rose 0.3% from a year earlier, marking the first year-on-year growth since April and compared with a 1.8% decline forecast by economists.

The better-than-expected import data may point to firming domestic demand after factory activity showed surprising signs of improvement recently, although analysts have noted the recovery could be difficult to sustain amid trade risks.

China's trade surplus for November stood at $38.73 billion, compared with an expected $46.30 billion surplus in the poll and a $42.81 billion surplus recorded in October.

TRADE TENSIONS

Beijing and Washington are negotiating a first phase trade deal aimed at de-escalating a trade dispute but they continue to wrangle over key details.

A U.S. House bill targeting China's camps for ethnic Muslim minorities in Xinjiang and other bills supporting anti-government protesters in Hong Kong have also angered Beijing, further clouding prospects for a deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday trade talks with China are "moving right along," striking an upbeat tone even as Chinese officials held fast to their line that existing tariffs must come off as part of an interim deal. Earlier in the week, though, Trump rattled global markets when he said a deal might have to wait until after the 2020 election.

Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on Friday that a Dec. 15 deadline is still in place to impose a new round of U.S. tariffs on some $156 billion of China's remaining exports to the United States, but the president likes where trade talks with China are going, he added.

One Chinese official told Reuters that China will implement its own tariffs as a countermeasure if the Dec. 15 tariffs go into place, which may dash any chance of a near-term trade deal.

Trump has demanded that China commit to specific minimum purchases of U.S. agricultural products, among other concessions on intellectual property rights, currency and access to China's financial services markets.

China's trade surplus with the United States for November stood at $24.60 billion, according to Reuters calculations based on customs data, easing from the previous month's surplus of $26.45 billion.

China confirmed on Friday that it will waive import tariffs for some soybeans and pork shipments from the United States.

DOMESTIC DEMAND

Imports of copper rose 12.1% on the previous month as an improvement in the manufacturing sector stoked higher demand for the red metal, customs data showed on Sunday.

China's official factory activity gauge returned to growth for the first time in seven months in November, with a private survey showing activity expanding at the quickest pace in almost three years.

But falling industrial profits and factory prices suggest persisting downward pressure on the sector.

Iron ore imports fell for a second straight month in November, pulled down by falling shipments from top miners in Australia and Brazil despite firm demand at mills.

Despite the growing strains on the economy, Beijing remains reluctant to implement major stimulus for fear of heightening financial risks given already high levels of debt.

Authorities have instead opted for more targeted measures such as incremental interest rate reductions and bringing forward 1 trillion yuan ($142.1 billion) of the 2020 local government special bonds quota to this year.

People's Bank of China Governor Yi Gang reiterated in a signed article published last week that China will not resort to quantitative easing and is committed to maintaining a prudent monetary policy.

Harry Maguire and sporting stars congratulate Anthony Joshua victory's over Andy Ruiz Jr - Daily Mail

'Class performance': Harry Maguire and stars across the world of football and sport hail Anthony Joshua after he won his rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr

  • Maguire watched the fight after celebrating victory in the Manchester derby
  • Premier League club Watford celebrated the world title success of local hero
  • Former world champion Andre Ward praised his comeback win on Saturday

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, former world champion Andre Ward and New Zealand rugby league star Sonny Bill Williams were among the sport stars to hail Anthony Joshua after he reclaimed the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Andy Ruiz Jr.

Joshua stuck to his back-foot game plan to pick off a clear 118-110 (twice), 119-109 verdict in a bout that boasted little of the five-knockdown drama which saw him lose to Ruiz in June.

In a bout which had been threatened with delay by a rare desert rain-storm moments before they took to the ring, the champion banked almost entirely on landing another big left money-shot.

Second time round, a more composed and disciplined Joshua for the most part resisted the urge to join Ruiz in battle, and there was no doubt as to the clear winner once the bell ended the final round.

Confirmation of Joshua's win was greeted with roars of approval from a capacity 16,000 crowd in the purpose-built venue in the ancient Saudi capital, which was hosting a major title fight for the first time.

Afterwards Maguire, who had earlier celebrated a 2-1 victory in the Manchester derby, tweeted: 'He's back - Class performance.'

Premier League club Watford celebrated another local hero, while former world champion Andre Ward praised his comeback win.

Who will Anthony Joshua fight next? - DAZN News US

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 10:18 PM PST

It would be nice to think that Anthony Joshua would simply wait to face the winner of the Feb. 22 rematch between WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder and lineal champion Tyson Fury for undisputed heavyweight glory. That would be too easy, though, and because politics is very much entrenched in the boxing business, it may never happen.

With Wilder fighting under the PBC banner on Showtime, Fury with Top Rank on ESPN and Joshua with Matchroom Boxing on DAZN, the contractual red tape would create an absolute mess. The history between the three, and especially between Joshua and Wilder leads many to believe that such negotiations would remain on ice.

So, who will Joshua fight next after putting on a boxing clinic against Andy Ruiz Jr. to become a two-time unified world heavyweight champion?

The WBO announced immediately after AJ's victory that Joshua must make a title defense against Oleksandr Usyk within 180 days.

Joshua's reaction?

"I'll whoop him," he said of the former undisputed cruiserweight champion at his postfight press conference early Sunday in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

The fact that Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) and Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) are 2012 Olympic gold medalists promoted by Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn and fight on DAZN would seemingly make booking a fight between the two a seamless transaction.

Joshua, however, is facing another mandatory title defense with the IBF against Kubrat Pulev (28-1, 14 KOs). Then again, if Joshua and Hearn believe a bout with the Bulgarian would lack sizzle, then they could opt to vacate that strap and forgo the matchup. Usyk would seem to be the more challenging opponent for Joshua, anyway, based on footwork and pure boxing skills alone.

Usyk is just getting his feet wet in the heavyweight division after moving up from cruiserweight earlier this year, but the combination of him being Joshua's mandatory WBO challenger and the money that would be attached to the fight would make a clash with AJ even more difficult for the Ukrainian to pass up, and he would give his absolute best in that fight.

In fact, Usyk told Sky Sports earlier this year that he wanted to fight Joshua in the British champion's backyard at London's Wembley Stadium.

Joshua and Ruiz spoke Sunday about having a trilogy fight at some point, but given how AJ dominated their rematch, there's no urgency to make that fight happen anytime soon.

If there is indeed no chance of Joshua lining up an undisputed megafight vs. Wilder or Fury without any headaches, then Usyk just might get his wish.

And not too many boxing fans would be complaining about Joshua-Usyk at Wembley as AJ's first fight of 2020, either.

Andy Ruiz Jr. on his performance vs. Anthony Joshua: 'I gained too much weight' - DAZN News US

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:48 PM PST

Andy Ruiz Jr. says he made a mistake in Saturday's rematch with Anthony Joshua.

Andy Ruiz Jr. told DAZN News on Friday that he weighed in at 283 pounds for his heavyweight championship rematch Saturday against Anthony Joshua because he was already at 268 pounds in the morning and then decided to eat the three basic meals of the day with the weigh-in scheduled for late afternoon.

Ruiz was criticized from every corner for his decision, but he felt comfortable in the choice he made.

The now-former champion was dominated by Joshua, who took back the IBF, WBA (Super) and WBO titles. Ruiz was gracious in defeat, but he admitted that he shouldn't have packed on so many pounds.

"It was his night," Ruiz said in his postfight interview. "I think I didn't prepare how I should have. I gained too much weight, but I don't want to give no excuses. He won, he boxed me around. But if we do the third fight, I'm going to get in the f—ing best shape of my life."

Ruiz weighed in at 268 in June when he shocked the boxing world and upset Joshua, who weighed in at a bulky 247. This time around, Joshua weighed 10 pounds lighter at 237. The weight discrepancy made a difference: Joshua was lighter on his feet, which allowed him to move well in the ring, enabled him to utilize the jab effectively, and allowed him to quickly slip out of the way anytime Ruiz tried to come at him.

Ruiz (33-2, 22 KOs) vows that his preparation will be different if the two meet in a trilogy fight.

"I thought I was going to feel stronger and be better, but next fight, I'm going to get more prepared," Ruiz said. "I tried to train myself, kind of. Anthony Joshua did a hell of a job. I was chasing him too much instead of cutting the ring off. I was hesitating too much. Next time, I'm going to do a lot better."

'Goal of the season' leaves football world in a frenzy - Yahoo Sport Australia

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:14 PM PST

Tottenham's Son Heung-Min has sent social media into a spin with a goal in the Premier League that's being touted as the best of the season.

The Korean superstar's stunning solo strike was the highlight in a 5-0 win for Spurs that was packed with amazing goals.

Captain Harry Kane scored two incredible strikes of his own in a commanding win for Jose Mourinho's men, that leaves them one point behind Manchester United in sixth on the table.

However, it was an audacious solo effort from Son that stole the headlines and left viewers in awe of the Korean's brilliance.

So often the heartbeat of Spurs this season and last, Son highlighted his importance to the London outfit with a moment of magic in the 32nd minute.

Picking the ball up from deep inside his own half, Son ran at the Burnley defence with defenders in front of him and on either side.

Opting against playing one of his teammates through on goal, Son spotted a hole right in the heart of the Clarets' defence and dribbled straight through it.

The Korean left half of Burnley's team in his wake as he snaked his way into the goal box, before cooly slotting the ball home.

The extraordinary moment left fans in a frenzy on social media, with many describing it as the "goal of the season".

Spurs boss Mourinho was also gushing in his praise after insisting the goal reminded him of one Brazilian icon Ronaldo scored for Barcelona during the coach's time at the Spanish side.

Goals to Lucas Moura, Moussa Sissoko and Kane's brace put the icing on the dominant win, which came off the back of a midweek defeat to Manchester United.

'He is unstoppable'

"Son's is a tremendous goal," Mourinho told BBC Sport. "Harry's two [goals from] outside the box and the pass for the Moussa goal.

"A couple of better passes or choices and we could have had more.

"I remember when I was at Barcelona with Mr [Bobby] Robson and Ronaldo Nazario scored a goal similar to Son's.

"And this was an amazing goal. I know that he is going to reach the face of the keeper and the control… he is unstoppable. The keeper is good, though, but he managed to put it in."

Son scored an incredible solo goal against Burnley. Pic: Optus Sport

Mourinho was likely referring to a goal Brazilian striker Ronaldo scored against Compostela early in the 1996-97 season, when the Brazilian beat a number of defenders to score an individual effort for Sir Bobby Robson's team. At the time, the Portuguese coach was working as Robson's translator at the Camp Nou outfit.

The comparison is high praise indeed – though Son had considerably more ground to cover with Ronaldo picking the ball up close to the half-way line for his famous strike.

Nevertheless, Son's superb goal added gloss to a welcome win for Spurs, with the three points taking them within six of fourth-place Chelsea following the Blues' 3-1 defeat at Everton earlier in the day.

"A perfect day," Mourinho reflected. "No injuries, a clean sheet, goals, perfect football, kids coming on for their first Premier League football.

"Sean Dyche is always honest and he told me after the game we were too good for them. I thank him for that. They are difficult to play against but we were too good. It wasn't them that were bad.

"Finally, the boys get a day off tomorrow that I've not been able to give them yet!"

Youngsters Troy Parrott and Oliver Skipp came off the bench in the second half, alongside summer signing Ryan Sessegnon.

Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua 2 results: AJ puts on boxing clinic to regain heavyweight titles - DAZN News US

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:48 PM PST

Anthony Joshua heard the calls heading into Saturday's rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr. He was told he quit in the first fight back in June. He couldn't change who he is at his core as a fighter.

Joshua quieted the naysayers, as he put on a boxing clinic from the opening bell to the conclusion of the fight, to defeat Ruiz by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110) to capture the IBF, WBA (super) and WBO heavyweight titles at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. DAZN News scored the fight 118-110 for Joshua.

"The first time was so nice, I had to do it twice," Joshua said in his post-fight interview. "This is about boxing. I'm used to knocking guys out, but last time I got caught coming in. I gave the man his credit. But I corrected myself and came again. I respect Andy and his family so much. I just wanted to put on a boxing master class, and show the sweet science of this sport. It's about hitting and not getting hit."

Not wanting to get into the firefight that caused him to lose his titles in June, Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) made it a point to stay disciplined, fighting on the outside and pumping the jab at will to keep Ruiz at bay. Anytime Ruiz tried to get to the inside to try and uncork his power, Joshua used good footwork to slip out of the way and avoid any significant damage.

The CompuBox stats had Joshua connecting on 107 out of 373 punches (29%) with 65 of those shots being jabs. Ruiz landed 60 out of 261 (23%) with 37 of those being power punches.

Joshua and Ruiz expressed interest in a trilogy bout taking place in the future, but it is unknown if that will take place considering the domination of Joshua on Saturday evening in the Middle East.

Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua 2 round-by-round results

Anthony Joshua beats Andy Ruiz Jr. to become two-time heavyweight champion

5:12 p.m.: Joshua def. Ruiz by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110) to win the IBF, WBA (super) and WBO heavyweight titles.

Round 12: More of what we saw for the first 11 rounds. Couldn't ask for a better performance from Joshua, and it looks like there will be a new unified heavyweight champion.  (10-9 Joshua, 118-110 Joshua)

Round 11: You could see the frustration coming from Ruiz's face when he rose from his stool to begin the 11th round. And there was nothing he did in the stanza to change the look as Joshua continued to pump the jab at will. Ruiz needs a knockout to win the fight. (10-9 Joshua, 108-101 Joshua)

Round 10: Jab, jab, jab. That's the name of the game here for Joshua. A little bit of trash talk to Ruiz at the end of the round. (10-9 Joshua, 98-92 Joshua)

Round 9: Joshua weathered the brief storm in the eighth round and came back to pump the jab and a nice three-punch combination to keep Ruiz back. Ruiz needs to start letting it go here. The belts are slipping from his grasp. (10-9 Joshua, 88-83 Joshua)

Round 8: Ruiz with a much-needed round. He let it loose and got on the inside and started to connect. He's frusrating Joshua with the pot shots in the clinch. Now, how does Joshua adapt? Can Ruiz continue the momentum to get back into the fight? (10-9 Ruiz, 78-74 Joshua)

Round 7: The confidence is brimming from Joshua one second after another. He's boxing and dictating everything at this point. Can Joshua stick to the plan for another five rounds? (Joshua 10-9, 69-64 Joshua)

Round 6: Ruiz needs more than a hard left hook he threw halfway through the round. He needs to let his hands go, but he needs Joshua to be there to be hit. (10-9 Joshua, 59-55 Joshua)

Round 5: Was hard to know how Joshua would come back after Ruiz gained some momentum. Joshua went to popping a hard jab that is getting through with ease. Ruiz's face is starting to become mincemeat. (10-9 Joshua, 49-46 Joshua)

Round 4: The best round of the fight so far for Ruiz. He finally started using the jab which allowed him to get on the inside. He connected on a hard overhand right and a left hand. Ruiz landed two more right hands to steal the round. The tide appears to be shifting a bit. (10-9 Ruiz, 39-37 Joshua)

Round 3: Ruiz needs to find a way to get on the inside. Joshua is making it look easy by utilizing the jab and even dug a nice left hook to the body. Ruiz needs to go after Joshua and not just follow him around the ring. (10-9 Joshua, 30-27 Joshua)

Round 2: An even round in which Joshua was cut over his left eye, like Ruiz. But Joshua continues to show good discipline by keeping Ruiz at the end of his jab and then punctuating it all with the straight right hand. Well, here comes the round where the complexion of the first fight changed. Do we get the same here? (10-9 Joshua, 20-18 Joshua)

Round 1: You couldn't have asked for a better start if you're Anthony Joshua. He feinted in the opening sequence and showed good boxing from there. He showed good footwork, a good jab and a hard straight right hand at the end of the round to give Ruiz a cut at the corner of his left eye. (10-9, Joshua)

4:09 p.m.:  Out comes the unified heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr.

4:06 p.m.:  In the unfamiliar role as the challenger, here comes Anthony Joshua.

4:03 p.m.: It is now time for the main event of the evening for the IBF, WBA (super) and WBO heavyweight championships, as Andy Ruiz Jr. defends against former champion Anthony Joshua.

The time for all the writing and talking is done. Who leaves Saudi Arabia the unified heavyweight champion? If it is anything like the first fight, we should be in for a classic.

3:47 p.m.: In a swing bout, Diego Pacheco def. Selemani Saidi by knockout at 1:38 of the first round. A big right hand was all Pachecho needed to send Saidi packing for the evening to remain undefeated in eight fights with seven KOs. Someone to definitely keep your eye on in the super middleweight division.

3:36 p.m.: Povetkin and Hunter went to a split draw (115-113 Hunter, 115-113 Povetkin, 114-114). Nothing wrong with the score as DAZN News had it 114-113 for Povetkin, with the Russian being given a 10-8 in the fifth round because of what should have been scored a knockdown for Povetkin.

A good fight and one I wouldn't mind seeing again.

Round 12: Close round with each guy having their moments. Early on, Hunter connected on a couple right hands. Down the stretch, Povetkin showed his championship mettle by being more active and connecting on a more consistent basis. (10-9 Povetkin, 114-113 Povetkin)

Round 11: In the second-to-last round, Hunter seized the moment. He rocked Povetkin and nearly finished him on more than one occasion with hard right hands. Can Hunter do that again and possibly win the fight? (10-9 Hunter, 104-104)

Round 10: Hunter regains control as he's now going on the inside and pounding the body. Who can make necessary adjustment in the championship rounds? (10-9 Hunter, 95-94 Povetkin)

Round 9: A bounceback round that Povetkin sorely needed. He's finding a home with the left hand on the inside. That's Povetkin's best path to success. (10-9 Povetkin, 86-84 Povetkin)

Round 8: Hunter flipped the script and started boxing which surprised Povetkin, who looks defeated right now. He needs to find a way to regain some momentum and seize control once again. (10-9 Hunter, 76-75 Povetkin)

Round 7: A ho-hum seventh round until the final minute when Hunter wobbled Povetkin with a right hand. Povetkin fired back with a hard right hand of his own. Hunter being aggressive looks to be his best recipe of success. Jab to the body and then the power shots is working for him. Let's see if he keeps doing it. (10-9 Hunter, 67-65 Povetkin)

Round 6: Hunter gains back a little momentum with a stiff power jab to the body followed by a combination. Hunter needs to continue throwing those shots, and he can get himself right back in the fight. (10-9 Hunter, 58-55 Povetkin)

Round 5: Great round for Povetkin. He blasted Hunter with a left hook that nearly sent Hunter through the ring. Don't know it wasn't ruled a knockdown because the ropes saved Hunter from getting sent to the canvas. (10-8 Povetkin, 49-45 Povetkin)

Round 4: Povetkin using his experience well here. He's making Hunter fight out of the ordinary and is making him pay with one power shot after another and then keeping honest by pumping the jab. Hunter needs to box and then everything else comes together. (10-9 Povetkin, 39-37 Povetkin)

Round 3: A pretty close round. Povetkin is gaining control with the jab and landing that sneaky left hand. Hunter needs to relax and not throw everything with reckless abandon. (10-9 Povetkin, 29-28 Povetkin)

Round 2: Good bounce back for Povetkin. He gathered his bearings and started to box which thwarted Hunter's onslaught from the first round. (10-9 Povetkin, 19-19)

Round 1: Hunter came looking for the knockout, connecting on a combination that stunned Povetkin. Hunter kept the pressure on Povetkin for the entire round. Coudn't ask for a better start if you're Hunter. (10-9, Hunter)

2:39 p.m.: It is time for the co-main event of Ruiz vs. Joshua 2 as Michael Hunter (18-1, 12 KOs) takes on former heavyweight champion and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Alexander Povetkin. Hunter's only loss came at cruiserweight to Oleksandr Usyk in April 2018. Can Hunter make the successful leap up in competition?

Dillian Whyte looks sluggish in decision win over Mariusz Wach

2:21 p.m.: Whyte def. Wacz by unanimous decision (98-93, 97-93, 97-93). Pretty wide decision in a fight that was closer than the judges scored it. After the fight, Whyte said he was out of shape. A high-caliber opponent, and the result would have been different.

It will be interesting to see what happens next with Whyte. Will the WBC reinstate the interim heavyweight title tag now that Whyte has been cleared from his drug test violation? The sanctioning body hasn't been kind to him in not making him the mandatory challenger for Deontay Wilder in the past. Let's hope they do the right thing and put Whyte in the spot he belongs in.

2:19 p.m.: We now head to the scorecards. Who did enough to earn the victory?

2:15 p.m.: Just when it looked like Wacz was out, he roars back with great activity and is connecting with good, hard shots. Whyte looks rough here, and that's being nice about it.

2:10 p.m.: Wacz slowing down a bit in the eighth round but still showing a ton of heart. Whyte's gained control with good shots to the body followed by going upstairs.

2:03 p.m.: Wacz making a good accounting of himself through six rounds. You can tell Whyte doesn't look in great shape and is laboring in a way, and Wacz is making him pay with good inside work. Let's see if Whyte can dig down and get a stoppage.

1:30 p.m.: Right now at Ruiz vs. Joshua 2, Dillian Whyte squares off with Mariusz Wach. Whyte (26-1, 18 KOs) comes in on a 10-fight winning streak after losing to Joshua in December 2015. Wach (35-5, 19 KOs) is a former world title challenger, losing a decision to then-unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in November 2012. Wach comes in winning back-to-back fights after going through a three-fight losing streak.

This is a stay busy fight for Whyte. But "The Body Snatcher" received good news on Friday when he was cleared of any wrongdoing from an adverse drug testing finding in July.

Other Ruiz vs. Joshua 2 undercard results

1:27 p.m.:  The former champion is in the arena.

1:21 p.m.: The DAZN announceAnthony Joshua hasn't arrived to the arena yet as it appears his driver has gotten lost.

1:20 p.m.: Hopey Price def. Swedi Mohamed at 2:22 of the third round.

1:12 p.m.: The reigining unified heavyweight champion has arrived.

1:00 p.m.:  The pouring rain continues on in Saudi Arabia. Due to the fact the first couple of fights have ended quickly, a swing bout will take place as as Hopey Price takes on Swedi Mohamed in a four round bantamweight affair.

12:52 p.m.: Filip Hrgovic def. Eric Molina by knockout at 2:03 of the third round. We weren't wrong in our assessment of how this was going to go from the second round. Hrgovic continued to pour it on in the third until he sent Molina down for good with another right hand to remain undefeated in 10 fights with eight of those coming by KO. Another guy to watch out for in a division that needs more contenders.

12:47 p.m.:  Give Molina credit here. Hrgovic dropped him in the second round with a thudding right hand but used his veteran instincts to survive. Would be surprised if it doesn't end in the third.

12:39 p.m.:  Up next at Ruiz vs. Joshua is Eric Molina facing Filip Hrgovic in heavyweight action.

12:22 p.m.: Magomedrasul Majidov def. Tom Little by TKO at 1:49 of the second round. Majidov continued the onslught from the knockdown from the opening round and continued his assault in the second, blasting Little with one hard shot after another. Finally, the referee decided to step in and save Little from a further beating.

Majidov runs his record to 2-0 with two stoppages. Definitely someone to keep your eye on.

12:18 p.m.:  Majidov sends Little packing in the opening round with a right hand. Didn't like how Little fell to the mat there. Something to watch out.

12:10 p.m.: Kicking off the action is Magomedrasul Majidov taking on Tom Little in heavyweight action. Watch out for Majidov as he's a three-time amateur champion.

12:00 p.m. ET:  Welcome to DAZN News' live coverage of the rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua. Stay locked in, grab some refreshment and enjoy an exciting day of action.

Anthony Joshua wins rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr. in Saudi Arabia 'Clash on the Dunes' - CNN International

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:48 PM PST

Joshua won a unanimous decision from the judges in Diriyah, near Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh. He avoided trading big blows with Ruiz the entire fight, instead dancing around the ring and landing jabs and hooks when he found the opportunity.
"This is about boxing, I'm used to knocking guys out," Joshua said, adding he was humbled by the previous loss to Ruiz. "I said to myself I'm gonna correct myself and come again ... It's about hitting and not getting hit."
Ruiz said he didn't prepare like he should have, but said he didn't want to give excuses.
"Anthony Joshua did a hell of a job," Ruiz said. "I think I was chasing him too much instead of cutting the ring ... I know next time I'm gonna do much better."
Saturday's bout was the first time the two heavyweights met since Ruiz won a technical knockout during the seventh round in New York in June. That fight was considered one of the biggest shocks in boxing history.
Before the knockout, Joshua had been one of three undefeated world heavyweight champion contenders. The New York defeat was the first of the Briton's career, meaning he surrendered all of the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.
Joshua improves his career record to 23-1 and hands Ruiz just the second loss of his 35-match career.

Mourinho, Kane, and social media react to Son’s marvelous goal - NBCSports.com

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:14 PM PST

Heung-Min Son went full (on-field) Maradona with a Goal of the Season contender on Saturday, one trumpeted far and wide as the classiest of throwback goals.

Son dribbled at least 80 yards in a truly solo goal, cutting through Burnley's defense like the proverbial hot knife through butter.

[ RECAP: Spurs 5-0 Burnley ]

The Internet, understandably, went wild for the goal, as did Son's teammates and manager.

Jose Mourinho interrupted Son's post-match interview to demand the player win Man of the Match, later adding:

"I remember when I was at Barcelona with Mr Robson and Ronaldo Nazario scored a goal that is similar to Son's. And this was an amazing goal. I know that he is going to reach the face of the keeper and the control he is unstoppable. The keeper is good, though, but he managed to put it in."

Two-goal man Harry Kane countered:

"Sonny [Son Heung-min] stole the show today. An unbelievable goal, a great counter attack. All he wants to do is work hard and play for the team. He has great quality and works hard for the team."

Routine wins from league favorites Barcelona and Real Madrid, highlight La Liga's Saturday action.

[ FOLLOW: PST's La Liga coverage ]

Barcelona 5-2 RCD Mallorca

It was a special night at Barcelona's Camp Nou.

Fresh from winning the Ballon d'Or for a record sixth time, Lionel Messi was greeted by his three children on the field, who handed him a shinny, golden ball – given yearly to the best player in the world – prior to the first whistle.

From that point on, it was evident that it would be all smiles for everyone tied to the defending champions at the stadium (and for those watching remotely) on Saturday.

That was the case.

Antoine Griezmann – a topic of conversation due to lack of productivity at Barcelona this season – kicked off the game with a solo run and subsequent goal in the seventh minute, opening the floodgates.

As a celebration of his latest, individual accomplishment, Messi showcased the power and precision of his left foot at the tune of a hat-trick. The Argentine ace scored twice in the first half and another in consolation time, putting his season total mark at a league-best 12 goals.

The moment and goal of the night (possibly of the season) didn't directly involve Messi, however. With a daring, emphatic and genius back-heel strike, not only did Luis Suarez put the home side up 4-1, but cemented himself in the ballot for best goal of the season.

With 34 and a better goal differential than Real Madrid, Barcelona remain atop of La Liga ahead of their clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday, while Mallorca hope Ante Budimir can score another brace; this time against a struggling Celta Vigo next weekend.

Real Madrid 2-0 Espanyol

With goals from Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane, Real Madrid comfortably cruised past a struggling Espanyol.

With the majority of Real Madrid in Espanyol's final third following a recovered free-kick attempt, Benzema charged his way into the box before laying off a ball to Varane, who not a proven goalscorer whatsoever, placed the ball into the back of the net with ease.

It was the 37th minute, and the home side were up 1-0 against a poor Espanyol.

With a notable superior style at hand, Los Blancos continued to surge forward. Opportunities at goal were generated but the ball wouldn't go past ex-Real Madrid 'keeper Diego Lopez.

Then, in the 79th minute, Benzema registered his 11th goal of the season, finishing an off-balance pass from Federico Valverde inside the box.

Winners in their last La Liga bouts, Real Madrid now prepare for their Champions League Group Stage finale against Club Brugge midweek. Espanyol, despite being in the drop zone, host CSKA Moscow in their Europa League Group Stage finale. The Catalonian club lead Group H with 11 points after five matches.

ROME (AP) Carlo Ancelotti's future as Napoli coach is uncertain after his team failed to beat Udinese on Saturday in Serie A.

The 1-1 draw extended Napoli's winless run to nine matches in all competitions. Piotr Zelinski saved Napoli with a late goal that salvaged a point for the visitors.

Amid reports that Ancelotti could soon be fired, Napoli, which had won its last six league matches against Udinese, went a goal down after a counterattack which was finished by Kevin Lasagna in the 32nd minute.

Napoli improved after Fernando Llorente replaced an uninspired Lorenzo Insigne in the second half. It equalized after a good combination between Dries Mertens and Zielinski, who wrongfooted the Udinese 'keeper with a shot into the bottom corner.

Also, Atalanta twice came from behind after Samuel Di Carmine's two goals to beat Hellas Verona 3-2 with a late winner from Berat Djimsiti, who volleyed home from close range.

After a crushing 2-1 loss to archrival Manchester United at home, 14 is the new magic number for Pep Guardiola and company.

14 is the number of points that Manchester City trail league leaders Liverpool by, an uphill battle that is influencing many people on the outside looking in to think that City's chances of lifting the league's silverware for a third straight season are officially done and dusted.

That's not the narrative that is occupying Kyle Walker's train of thought, however. Speaking on behalf of his City teammates and himself, the defender is keen on fighting until they're mathematically out of contention for the title, regardless if the standings show that Liverpool have yet to suffer a defeat this season after 16 matches.

"Can't fault the manager," Walker told Sky Sports following City's second Premier League loss in five games. "He has won numerous trophies. I can't put my finger on it. It is going to be difficult, Liverpool are on fire. They [Liverpool] are getting wins and we are not. It is a big gap but we will fight until the end."

A consolation goal from Nicolas Otamendi in the 85th minutes wasn't enough for the Cityzens, who endured a fourth league loss this season, matching last season's number of losses throughout 38 games.

After the dispiriting derby day performance from City, the defending champions stand at 32 points after 16 bouts, the lowest point haul for Guardiola in his 11-year top-flight management career.

No team in league history has overcome a 14-point deficit. Since late October, City are yet to record a clean sheet, an apparent issue that Walker believes he and the rest of the team's defenders need to address in order to return to old ways.

"Us as defenders need to hold our hands up," he said. "We need to keep clean sheets and strikers maybe need to put more away. They had a game plan and it worked. They have quick players in quick areas and they are going to hurt you on the counter. Credit where credit is due, they stepped up today. Fair play."

At 32 years of age and with a 15-year career behind him, Luis Suarez has scored some emphatic goals.

On Saturday, however, he painted a fine piece of art, a goal that became an instant classic the moment the ball came off of his backheel. With Barcelona already up 3-1 against RCD Mallorca, Ernesto Valverde's men continued to push forward, comfortably and strategically ping-ponging the ball around the defensive-oriented visitors.

And then Frenkie de Jong found the ball at the top of the box.

The Dutch international smoothly placed a through ball, finding Suarez, who with precision and expertise that only he has, belted the ball into the bottom-right corner of Manolo Reina's goal.

It's only December, but the Uruguayan's goal is an automatic La Liga goal of the season contender:

Tottenham's Son Heung-min pulls off unbelievable goal after going 90 yards before cool finish - CBS Sports

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:14 PM PST

These are the moments that put you in the history books of the sport. Tottenham's Son Heung-min pulled off one of the greatest goals you'll see on Saturday. The South Korean star, also the AFC Asian International Player of the Year, gave Tottenham a 3-0 lead in the first half against Burnley with a bit of magic you'll want to watch on replay for a long time.

Picking up the ball near his own box, Son went 90 yards with an unbelievable touch and pace before finishing into the net in with absolute class. It will likely be in contention for the Puskas award next year as the best goal of the season in the entire world, and you just have to see it to believe it.

Take a look:

He beat six defenders on the way before finishing past the goalkeeper, and what's even crazier is that he did it in only 10 seconds. It was kind of Diego Maradona-esque though far from the greatness of that 1986 World Cup goal the Argentine scored against England -- widely considered the greatest goal scored all time.

But that's not to take away from what Son just did, because it's a goal that will likely be remembered as his best while playing for the club.

The actress behind 'Peloton wife' has finally spoken - CNN

Posted: 07 Dec 2019 04:24 PM PST

Monica Ruiz is the actress behind the infamous Peloton holiday commercial, and she has finally emerged to let us know what she thinks about her explosive fame.
The commercial blew up on social media when critics accused it of being sexist and promoting outdated marital dynamics. Some pointed to the couple's enormous home as yet another sign that the company appeals mostly to privileged customers.
The company says people have misinterpreted the ad's message.
Ruiz doesn't have anything bad to say about Peloton. In fact, she's thankful for the opportunity to be in the ad.
"I was happy to accept a job opportunity earlier this year from Peloton and the team was lovely to work with," Ruiz said in a statement first given to Deadline. "Although I'm an actress, I am not quite comfortable being in spotlight and I'm terrible on social media. So to say I was shocked and overwhelmed by the attention this week (especially the negative) is an understatement."
Days after she became the internet's latest fixation, she appeared again as Peloton wife in an ad for Ryan Reynolds' spirits brand, Aviation Gin, which seemed to poke fun at its commercial predecessor. This time, though, she traded out the husband and stationary bike for a stiff drink and sympathetic friends.
Ruiz returned in an Aviation Gin ad that poked fun at the Peleton wife controversy.
Luckily for her, the cold bite of internet infamy was quickly followed by the warm embrace of Ryan Reynolds and a boozy ad. "When Ryan and his production team called about Aviation Gin, they helped me find some humor in the situation," she said.
The actress has refrained from commenting on people's criticisms of the Peloton ad, instead highlighting what these jobs have done for her career. "I am grateful to both Peloton and now Aviation Gin for the work and giving me the opportunity to do what I love to do."
Before being launched into the social media spotlight, Ruiz appeared in episodes of the shows "Baby Daddy," "About a Boy" and "The Game."
She gave no updates about what's next for her. Given her tendency to shy away from internet fame, though, she may just get on her Peloton bike and pretend to ride off into the sunset.
