More charges likely in Cork viral video attack - BreakingNews.ie Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:12 AM PST A man charged in connection with a 'pile-driver' attack in Cork city over Christmas is likely to face more serious charges. An onlooker's 15-second video clip of the incident went viral, after being posted on Twitter, on St Stephen's Day, by a woman who has had her account suspended for breaches of the social media company's policies. The clip shows two young men grappling and throwing punches close to Christy Ring Bridge, in the city centre, as they wrestle with each other across the road, from Camden Quay towards Carroll's Quay. The clip then shows one of the men picking the other up, upending him, and driving him head first onto the ground. The sound of his head hitting the tarmac can be heard, before the recording ends abruptly. The clip has been shared widely across various social media platforms and messaging apps. The clip has been viewed over 41,000 times. That Tweet triggered wild speculation, including mistaken links to a previous serious assault off St Patrick's St, several months ago, which led to the death of a man, in hospital, some weeks later, and incorrect suggestions that the injured party in the video clip had died. GardaĆ have now confirmed that the incident in the video clip occurred close to Carroll's Quay, at around 1am on Monday, December 23. The injured man, who has an address in Cork, was brought to Cork University Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. He is understood to be receiving follow-up treatment. A garda spokesman said they arrested, and charged, a man in his 20s, with an address in Dublin, in relation to a public order incident on Carroll's Quay, Cork, that occurred shortly after 1am on December 23. The man appeared before Cork City District Court later that morning and was remanded in custody until December 27. He appeared in court again last Friday and was released on bail. However, garda investigations are continuing and the man is likely to face more serious charges. Goal king of London: Nicolas Pepe’s notable record - Goal.com Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:10 AM PST Arsenal striker Nicolas Pepe is undoubtedly a player who enjoys scoring goals in London. The Cote d'Ivoire international netted his third Premier League goal of the season in the Gunners' 2-0 triumph over Manchester United on Wednesday evening. Pepe swept the ball into the net from 12 yards to put his team ahead after eight minutes after Sead Kolasinac's cross deflected into his path.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos doubled the lead for Mikel Arteta's side three minutes before half-time to seal their sixth league win and climb to 10th in the Premier League log.
With his strike against the Red Devils, he has now scored all five of his goals for Arsenal across all competitions in London. Four of them were recorded at the Emirates, and one at London Stadium – during the Gunners' 3-1 win at West Ham United. Also, the strike meant that he is joint second with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah as the player with more left-footed league goals in Europe's top leagues, behind Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
The 24-year-old joined the North London outfit from Lille in a club-record fee of £72 million, but has struggled in front of goal for the most part. Having scored against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, he would be hoping the goals keep flowing when Arsenal host Leeds United in Monday's FA Cup game. Flood Death Toll Rises in Jakarta, Tens of Thousands Evacuated - The New York Times Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:08 AM PST JAKARTA — Tens of thousands of people were evacuated in Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Thursday after flash floods and landslides in the area killed up to 21 people, with more heavy rain forecast, authorities said. The flooding, among the deadliest in years, caused chaos in parts of Southeast Asia's biggest city with train lines blocked and power outages in some areas. Swathes of Jakarta and nearby towns were inundated after heavy rain fell on Dec. 31 and into the early hours of New Year's Day. Social affairs ministry spokesman said in a message to Reuters that the death toll had now reached 21, while the disaster mitigation agency said it was 19. As of Thursday, over 62,000 people were evacuated in Jakarta alone, disaster mitigation agency spokesman Agus Wibowo said, twice as many as a day earlier. Thousands of livestock were reported missing and thousands of houses damaged in neighboring province of Banten, media reported. Indonesia's President Joko Widodo told reporters on Thursday that evacuation and safety procedures should be prioritized, and called for more coordination between city administrations and the central government. On his Twitter page, Widodo blamed delays in flood control infrastructure projects for the flooding. He said some projects have been delayed since 2017 due to land acquisition problems. Some of the victims had drowned, while others were killed in landslides. Four were electrocuted, while three died of hypothermia. Indonesia's Cabinet Secretary said in a statement, citing the geophysics agency, that extreme weather may continue across Indonesia until Jan. 7 and warned people to remain on alert for further flooding or landslides. Dwikorita Karnawati, head of the geophysics agency, told reporters separately that heavy rainfall may continue until mid February. Umar Dani, 52, and his family were evacuated overnight from his home in East Jakarta on a rubber boat after water levels rose up to his neck. "It has not flooded for so long here. We didn't have the chance to bring anything," he said. "I have to live on the streets now." Television footage on Thursday showed rescuers in the nearby city of Tangerang evacuating residents, guiding them across a strong current by holding on to a rope. Jakarta police on their Twitter account warned that a number of major streets across the capital were not yet passable, accompanied by a video showing a postal truck being stuck in the middle of a road. Jakarta and its surroundings are home to more than 30 million people. More than 50 people died in one of the capital's deadliest floods in 2007 and five years ago much of the center of the city was inundated after canals overflowed. The government announced last year that it is relocating the capital to East Kalimantan province on Borneo, though the planning ministry pledged that the government will invest $40 billion in modernizing Jakarta. Mass evacuation ordered in Australia's fire-ravaged towns - TRT World Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:08 AM PST Catastrophic blazes ripped through the country's south-east on New Year's Eve, killing at least eight people and stranding holidaymakers.Thousands of tourists have been given less than 48 hours to evacuate fire-ravaged coastal communities as Australia braces for a weekend heatwave expected to fan deadly bushfires. Catastrophic blazes ripped through the country's south-east on New Year's Eve, killing at least eight people and stranding holidaymakers. The New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fire Service on Thursday morning declared a "tourist leave zone" stretching about 200 kilometres from the popular holiday spot of Bateman's Bay along the picturesque coast to neighbouring Victoria state, where people are also being urged to flee. At least 18 people are now known to have died in one of Australia's most devastating bushfire seasons yet, and there are growing fears the toll could rise dramatically, with officials in Victoria saying 17 people were missing in the state. Visitors are being warned to leave affected areas before Saturday, when another heatwave is expected to sweep across the country, with gusting winds and temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. That weather will create conditions officials say will be as bad as, if not worse than, Tuesday, the deadliest day in a months-long bushfire crisis. Queue of cars Many tourists and residents spent two nights isolated with no electricity or telecommunications, before authorities on Thursday declared some roads safe to use. NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance called it the "largest evacuation of people out of the region ever", with a queue of cars stretching along the highway toward Sydney as thousands flee the area. One driver told AFP it had taken her three hours to travel just 50 kilometres. NSW Rural Fire Service deputy commissioner Rob Rogers said firefighters would be unable to extinguish or even control the raging blazes. "The message is we've got so much fire in that area, we have no capacity to contain these fires," he told ABC. "We just need to make sure that people are not in front of them." John Steele, 73, who lives outside the south coast town of Merimbula, told AFP some people were "panicking" amid the warnings to evacuate. "There's so much misinformation on Facebook and on the web," he said. Steele said the region had been "chaotic" in recent days as fresh produce and fuel supplies ran low, but he and his wife were staying put for now. "We're happy to see every man and his dog leave town," he said. "We are cautious, we have our bags packed." Authorities still have not been able to reach some rural communities, such as the town of Genoa in Victoria. 'Weeks' to evacuate The number of homes confirmed destroyed in recent days has topped 400, with that figure expected to rise as firefighters reach communities still isolated by flames. Navy ship HMAS Choules arrived early Thursday in Mallacoota -- where people huddled on the foreshore for hours on New Year's Eve as a fire bore down on the remote town -- to begin evacuating people, a defence force spokeswoman said. Emergency Management Victoria deputy commissioner Chris Stephenson said some vulnerable people had already been rescued and a further 500 people would be extracted at the beginning of a lengthy operation. "Today it's starting to move potentially the tourists in Mallacoota, and residents who may not want to be there," he said. "With the number of people in Mallacoota, this is going to take days, if not weeks, to be able to achieve." Military aircraft have also been working with emergency crews to drop relief supplies into isolated areas and assess the fire damage. This season's blazes have destroyed more than 1,300 homes and scorched over 5.5 million hectares across the country -- an area far greater than Denmark or the Netherlands. The unprecedented crisis has sparked street protests calling on the government to immediately act on climate change, which scientists say is creating a longer and more intense bushfire season. Conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison has come under increasing pressure for his actions, which included holidaying in Hawaii as the disaster unfolded and reiterating his support for Australia's lucrative -- but heavily polluting -- coal mining industry. In his first official press conference since the latest blazes flared, Morrison said Thursday said "every absolute effort" was being made to assist affected communities. "The best way to respond is the way that Australians have always responded to these events and that is to put our confidence in those who are fighting these fires," he said, while defending Australia's climate change policies as "sensible". Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:40 PM PST Blake Comeau had an eventful Wednesday afternoon. During the Stars' 4-2 win over Nashville in the Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl, Comeau was a key figure, with a goal, a penalty (that the Predators scored on) and a brief exit due to a crushing hit from Predators forward Austin Watson. "He's a tremendous competitor," Stars interim coach Rick Bowness said. "He's a tremendous teammate. He leads by example. He's vocal in the room when he needs to be. He's a great asset, and he's playing his heart out. Players feed off of that." With 8:33 left in the first period, Comeau was flattened by Watson in the Stars zone and remained on the ice before walking up the Cotton Bowl tunnel to the Dallas dressing room. The hit appeared to put Comeau's Winter Classic in jeopardy after his head hit the ice. But Comeau returned to the game at the start of the second period after going through the NHL's concussion protocol. The hit was part of a wild first period that also included Corey Perry's ejection for elbowing Ryan Ellis in the head, Radek Faksa's tussle with Colin Blackwell and Denis Gurianov's penalty shot miss. "Just caught off guard, not really sure who hit me," Comeau said. "Coming into it, we knew it was going to be a physical game playing these guys last year in the playoffs, close in the standings, big division game, great atmosphere. We knew it was going to be physical." Comeau's delay of game penalty 4:22 into the game gave the Predators a two-minute 5 on 3 power play, which Matt Duchene cashed in on. But Comeau was one of the most active Stars the rest of the game, with three shots on goal, four hits and three blocked shots. "Blake is an engine for us," Jason Dickinson said. "He brings a lot of passion. He brings a lot of energy for us. He goes out there and plays the game the hard way. He doesn't take any shortcuts, he's a guy that you respect. When you see him come back out and he's got a fire under him, it lights up everybody else." Benn + Seguin: While answering a question about Comeau, Stars captain Jamie Benn referenced Tyler Seguin, who was sitting beside him. This was the exchange: "He's not going to do the pretty things all the time like Mr. Seguin here, but he's a great player and he's a big part of our team," Benn said of Comeau. "I don't always do pretty things," Seguin told Benn. Perry fallout: Corey Perry played 38 seconds on Wednesday afternoon, ending his only shift of the game with an elbowing penalty that resulted in a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Perry elbowed Nashville defenseman Ryan Ellis at the Stars blue line, and Ellis did not return to the game. "Sometimes in hockey, when you go to make a hit, you get in some unfortunate situations and that's all I can see with that," Stars interim head coach Rick Bowness said. "Corey Perry would never try to hurt anyone. He would play hard, but intention? No, that's an unfortunate hit. That's all." The NHL announced Wednesday night that Perry would have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Friday for his hit on Ellis. Perry likely faces a suspension for the hit, potentially opening up a lineup spot for Justin Dowling to step into. Ice deterioration: One of the big talking points entering Wednesday was how well the ice would hold up in mid-50s temperatures. During Tuesday's practice, it got positive reviews. But warmup on Wednesday was a different story. "Yesterday, it was pretty good, but today when we came for warmups, it was awful," Radek Faksa said. "Before the game, it was actually pretty good. After 10 minutes, the ice was pretty bad, the puck was bouncing a lot. We tried to be on them, not give them too much time. Just put the puck deep and get on the forecheck. It's hard to break out when the ice is really bad." -- During the Winter Classic, Bowness became the third coach in NHL history to be a head coach in five different decades, joining Pat Quinn and Scotty Bowman. Bowness has coached more games (as an assistant and a head coach) than any coach in NHL history. Bushfires in Australia: No food, no fuel, no power - 7NEWS.com.au Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:38 PM PST On the back of the deadly New Year's Eve fires, Australia is facing a possible humanitarian crisis. A humanitarian crisis is defined by the Humanitarian Commission as 'an event that threatens the health, safety or wellbeing of a large group of people.' HMAS Choules will provide relief to 4,000 people who are stranded in the seaside town of Mallacoota after it experienced severe bushfires on December 31. Watch the video above Residents and tourists have been forced to sleep in their cars or public buildings, according to multiple reports. Many of them running low on food and water. Possible evacuationDuring a media conference on Wednesday, January 1, Victoria's emergency management commissioner, Andrew Crisp, said authorities were considering an evacuation via the sea and would work as quickly as possible. "It (the ship) doesn't have the current capacity for everyone at Mallacoota," he said. "My understanding it has a capacity of 1,000 people. If we were to do that, we would be prioritising those. "We are exploring all our options … and certainly to look at evacuating some people from Mallacoota by sea is an option we're seriously considering." Tourists evacuatedAuthorities have urged tourists in the area between NSW south coast Bateman's Bay and the Victorian border to evacuate ahead of Saturday's extreme weather forecast. "From a firefighters point of view, on Saturday, we're telling people that tourists should not be there," Rob Rogers from NSW Rural Fire Service told Sunrise. "If you're in these areas, don't be there on Saturday, because it's a real problem." More from 7NEWS.com.au on the bushfire crisis: No food and no power"About two weeks" worth of food, water and 30,000 litres of fuel is being transported to Melbourne to be forwarded to Mallacoota More than 7,000 homes across East Gippsland and 1,800 in the north-east of the state experienced the loss of power, and several were without phone coverage on Wednesday afternoon. As these power outages plague both parts of Victoria and NSW, Rogers of NSW Rural Fire Service confirms it is a priority to fix this issue. "There certainly has [been] power outages, telecommunications are down," he said. "They're working very hard had to get the telecommunications restored." "Our main focus is to preserve life, but power and roads are key, they're a big focus." Expressing concernPeople have taken to social media to express their concern about the current crisis. "Hard to remain calm or positive when you town is burning and only safe place is the ocean," one Tweeted. "No positives in breathing smoke instead of oxygen, having no food or water because all roads have cut you off." In the video below, the ADF's role in the bushfire crisis. Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:08 PM PST Issued on: Modified: Thousands of tourists have been given less than 48 hours to evacuate fire-ravaged coastal communities as Australia braces for a heatwave Saturday expected to fan deadly bushfires. Advertising Catastrophic blazes ripped through swathes of the continent's south-east on New Year's Eve, killing at least eight people and stranding holidaymakers as seaside towns were ringed by flames. The New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fire Service on Thursday morning declared a "tourist leave zone" stretching about 200 kilometres (124 miles) from the popular holiday spot of Bateman's Bay along the usually picturesque south-east coast to neighbouring Victoria state, where people are also being urged to evacuate fire-threatened areas. At least 18 people are now known to have died in one of Australia's most devastating bushfire seasons yet, and there are growing fears the toll could rise dramatically, with officials in Victoria saying 17 people were missing in the state. Visitors are being warned to leave before Saturday, which is forecast to bring gusting winds and temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). That weather will create conditions officials say will be as bad as -- if not worse than -- Tuesday, the deadliest day in a months-long bushfire crisis.

Military aircraft have also been working with emergency crews to drop relief supplies into isolated areas and assess the fire damage. This season's blazes have destroyed more than 1,300 homes and scorched over 5.5 million hectares (13.5 million acres) across the country -- an area far greater than Denmark or the Netherlands. Australia orders mass evacuation of fire-ravaged towns before heatwave - FRANCE 24 Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:08 PM PST Issued on: Modified: Advertising Sydney (AFP) Thousands of tourists have been given less than 48 hours to evacuate fire-ravaged coastal communities as Australia braces for a heatwave Saturday expected to fan deadly bushfires. Catastrophic blazes ripped through swathes of the continent's south-east on New Year's Eve, killing at least eight people and stranding holidaymakers as seaside towns were ringed by flames. Visitors are being warned to leave before Saturday, which is forecast to bring gusting winds and temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). That weather will create dangerous fire conditions that officials say will be as bad -- if not worse -- than Tuesday, Australia's deadliest day of fires in a months-long bushfire crisis. Many tourists and residents spent two nights isolated with no electricity or telecommunications, and dwindling food supplies, before authorities on Thursday deemed some roads out of the region temporarily safe to use. NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance told public broadcaster ABC it would be the "largest evacuation of people out of the region ever", with thousands preparing to leave ahead of another "terrible" day of fires. NSW Rural Fire Service deputy commissioner Rob Rogers said firefighters were unable to extinguish or even control the raging blazes. "The message is we've got so much fire in that area, we have no capacity to contain these fires," he told ABC. "We just need to make sure that people are not in front of them." But with food and fuel supplies reportedly running short in many centres, there were concerns some would remain trapped. Authorities still have not been able to reach some rural communities, such as the town of Genoa in Victoria. There are also mounting fears for five people still missing after the most recent blazes while the number of homes confirmed destroyed has topped 400, with that number expected to rise as firefighters reach devastated communities still isolated by flames. Navy ships and military aircraft have been deployed alongside emergency crews to provide humanitarian relief and assess the damage. This season's blazes have killed at least 18 people, destroyed more than 1,000 homes and scorched about 5.5 million hectares (13.5 million acres) -- an area bigger than Denmark or the Netherlands. The unprecedented crisis has sparked street protests calling on the government to immediately act on climate change, which scientists say is creating a longer and more intense bushfire season. Floods in Indonesia's capital kill 9, force thousands to evacuate - New Straits Times Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:38 PM PST JAKARTA: Flash floods inundated swathes of Indonesia's capital and nearby towns on the first day of the New Year after torrential rainfall overnight, killing at least nine people and forcing thousands of people to evacuate, authorities said on Wednesday. "As of 4 pm today, there are 19,079 displaced residents who have been evacuated at temporary shelters throughout Jakarta," city governor Anies Baswedan told a news conference. "The rain in Jakarta has stopped, now we are waiting for the water to recede." Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency (BNPB) said at least 9 people had died in flash floods and landslides triggered by the rain in Jakarta and nearby towns. Most of the deaths were due to hypothermia, though one was a teenager who was electrocuted by a power line, disaster mitigation agency spokesman Agus Wibobo said. Television footage showed cars almost completely submerged and people wading through meters murky brown water in some neighborhoods of the capital. Water levels in East and South Jakarta as well as in the satellite cities of Tangerang and Bekasi in West Java province started to quickly rise from 3 a.m. local time (2000 GMT), according to the disaster mitigation agency. Indonesia's state electricity utility said it had switched off the electricity in hundreds of districts in Jakarta, which is home to 30 million people. The floods also caused the temporary closure of the runway at Jakarta's domestic Halim airport, with flights redirected to the capital' bigger Soekarno airport. City authorities have in the last few years sought to improve low-lying Jakarta's vulnerability to flooding during the rainy season. More than 50 people died in one of the capital's deadliest floods in 2007 and five years ago much of the centre of the city was inundated after canals overflowed. Jakarta resident Daniel, whose neighborhood had been waterlogged, told reporters of his disappointment with the city government's efforts to mitigate the floods, which happen yearly during the rainy season. "I only have one hope, which is to ask the current governor to fix this because it impact all the people," he pleaded. "Take the right action please, look at what is happening now, bring the situation back to normal."-Reuters Top stories - Google News January 01, 2020 at 04:38AM https://ift.tt/2MLo1u3 Floods in Indonesia's capital kill 9, force thousands to evacuate - New Straits Times Top stories - Google News https://ift.tt/2FLTecc Shoes Man Tutorial Pos News Update Meme Update Korean Entertainment News Japan News Update |
New Year's: UK sees in 2020 with 'best fireworks London has ever seen' - Metro.co.uk Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:38 PM PST The capital has brought in 2020 with 'the best fireworks London has ever seen' as the UK enters one of its most important decades yet. More than 100,000 have gathered around Victoria Embankment and cheered as they watched the impressive display light up the sky above the River Thames, to the soundtrack of some of the country's biggest hits. Big Ben's chimes loudly rang out 12 times signifying the start of the display, before around 12,000 dramatic fireworks exploded in the air featuring music by Stormzy, Wiley and Bastille. The theme of this year's display is based on London hosting a number of key games in the Euro 2020 football tournament and the crowds could be heard proudly chanting 'it's coming home' towards the end of the show. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he hoped the display would show the world that it is still a confident 'global city', as the UK prepares to leave the EU in the new year. Advertisement Advertisement He said: 'Fairly or unfairly, people around the world saw the Brexit referendum vote as the UK somehow turning its back on the rest of the world, including Europe. 'The fear was, we would become insular, inward-looking, and what I'm keen to show is the opposite… 'And it's really important that we show the world who will be watching our fireworks that we are a confident, global, outward-looking European city.' London's event sold out and travel on Transport for London (TfL) services will be free between 11.45pm on New Year's Eve and 4.30am on New Year's Day. Meanwhile, Hogmanay celebrations began in Edinburgh, as crowds gathered for the city's annual street party, with around 100,000 visitors expected to attend the event. Large firework shows will also take place in cities including Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle, Inverness and Nottingham. As Brits celebrated across the country, the prime minister focused the next decade's attention on Brexit and told the public it could look forward to 10 years of 'prosperity and opportunity'. Boris Johnson will be watching London's display from television, as he is bringing in the next decade with girlfriend Carrie Symonds on the private Caribbean island of Mustique. In his New Year message, the PM said that with the UK set to leave the EU on January 31, the Government could focus on the 'people's priorities'. Advertisement Advertisement 'As we say goodbye to 2019 we can also turn the page on the division, rancour and uncertainty which has dominated public life and held us back for far too long,' he added. 'We can start a new chapter in the history of our country, in which we come together and move forward united, unleashing the enormous potential of the British people.' He said although the 'first item' on his agenda was to take Brexit out of the EU as soon as possible, he wants to be a 'prime minister for everyone', including the millions who backed Remain or did not vote Conservative in the general election. 'If you are one of them, I want to reassure you that I will be a prime minister for everyone, not just those who voted for me,' he said. 'I know that you love this country no less, simply because you voted for another party or wanted to Remain. 'More than that, I want to work with you, as friends and equals, as we build the future this United Kingdom deserves. 'So let's together make the 2020s a decade of prosperity and opportunity.' He reiterated that the main concern on people's lists of priorities was more investment in the NHS. 'The NHS is a wonderful British invention, there for us and our families when we are ill, whatever our background and regardless of ability to pay. So the NHS will always be my top priority.' Advertisement Mr Johnson said he was also determined to make the UK 'the best place on Earth' for 'quality education and cutting-edge science'. 'Our vision is clear: to unite and level up across the whole United Kingdom – spreading opportunity more fairly – with better infrastructure, superb education and high technology,' he said. NSW bushfires: Tourists urged to leave south coast as weather intensifies - 7NEWS.com.au Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:08 PM PST Bushfire-ravaged communities in southern NSW will continue to try to assess the damage after seven lives and at least 176 homes were lost. Tourists in the popular holiday region are now being urged to leave as locals and authorities brace for severe and extreme fire danger on Saturday. Watch the video above "Where roads can be accessed, we will be encouraging tourists, especially, to move out of those areas whilst it's safe to do so," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Wednesday. But she asked for patience as not all roads would be opened until trees and debris were cleared. "Just because you can't see flames doesn't mean the road is safe to use." 'The risk is very real'NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said conditions on Saturday would likely be worse than those on New Year's Eve, which left a trail of destroyed homes, businesses and utility lines up and down the south coast. "We've seen the enormity of damage, destruction and devastation that unfolded (on Tuesday)," he said. "This risk is very real." He said extreme fire danger was likely over more regions in southern NSW, which "unfortunately correlates with where we have some of the worst, most damaging and destructive bushfires". "We all need to prepare ourselves for more challenging conditions to once again impact a large geographic area of NSW, particularly the southeast quadrant," he said. More on 7NEWS.com.au: The RFS warned holidaymakers on the south coast to leave before Saturday and warned those planning to travel there on the weekend to cancel their trip. On Wednesday, police found three bodies in the fire-gutted communities of Sussex Inlet and Yatte Yattah. Death toll risesSeven people have died since Monday, including a person found outside a home in Coolagolite, near Cobargo. Coolagolite farmer Steve Shipton survived the same firefront but thought he "was gone" as, with burning eyes, he tried to save his family and his home. "It's just unbelievable. The ferocity and how quick... That's what shocked me and that's why I thought we were in a good situation to survive," the soot-covered farmer told AAP. A Belowra man, 72, remains missing. At least 176 homes have been lost across the state but the number is expected to rise on Thursday. Tens of thousands are also without power after transmission lines were damaged. Police asked for patience as utility providers attempted to restore power and telecom services. "We have to make sure that when we restart the power, we do that with safety and confidence, that it will remain on," NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said. "People need to understand this is not a simple or easy task." Very high fire danger is forecast on Thursday for eight fire districts on or west of the Great Dividing Range while high fire risk is due for some coastal regions. More than 100 fires are burning across the state. Since the start of July, at least 15 people have died and more than 1000 homes have been destroyed by bushfires in NSW. More than 3.6 million hectares - three times the size of Sydney's metro area - have been burnt. Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:02 AM PST A Quiet Place Part II trailer: See how Emily Blunt survived the first ever monster attack - The Independent Emily Blunt continues to silently roam through American farmland with her family in the terrifying first trailer for A Quiet Place Part II. The much anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror smash sees Blunt once again directed by her real-life husband John Krasinski, though he himself does not appear this time around… for reasons made obvious by the ending to the first film. Set in a post-apocalyptic USA, A Quiet Place revolves around a family on the run from aliens who are sensitive to noise, meaning all humans must communicate via sign language to avoid detection. The new trailer opens with a flashback sequence to what appears to be the day of the initial alien invasion, alongside scenes taking place after the tragic events of the first film's conclusion. Blunt's character Evelyn is still roaming the countryside looking for safety with her two teenage children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe), along with her newborn son Beau, who is kept in a suitcase to protect his life. Also glimpsed are two major new characters played by Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy and Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou. A Quiet Place Part II is released in cinemas on 20 March. 2020-01-01 14:50:00Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMinwFodHRwczovL3d3dy5pbmRlcGVuZGVudC5jby51ay9hcnRzLWVudGVydGFpbm1lbnQvZmlsbXMvbmV3cy9hLXF1aWV0LXBsYWNlLTItdHJhaWxlci1lbWlseS1ibHVudC1jaWxsaWFuLW11cnBoeS1zZXF1ZWwtam9obi1rcmFzaW5za2ktcmVsZWFzZS1kYXRlLWE5MjY2NTgxLmh0bWzSAaMBaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaW5kZXBlbmRlbnQuY28udWsvYXJ0cy1lbnRlcnRhaW5tZW50L2ZpbG1zL25ld3MvYS1xdWlldC1wbGFjZS0yLXRyYWlsZXItZW1pbHktYmx1bnQtY2lsbGlhbi1tdXJwaHktc2VxdWVsLWpvaG4ta3Jhc2luc2tpLXJlbGVhc2UtZGF0ZS1hOTI2NjU4MS5odG1sP2FtcA?oc=5 |
