Fall fairs are more than just opportunities to eat deep fried delicacies or ride thrilling rollercoasters. For Colleton County 4-H members, fairs are an opportunity to show off projects to which they have dedicated countless hours of time.

COVID-19 has brought many unforeseen challenges to youth and their families this year, but 4-H youth have responded diligently by continuing their project work.

Clemson Cooperative Extension is offering the Savannah Valley 4-H Festivities so that local youth may still exhibit their fair projects in a virtual format. Youth can compete in contests such as pumpkin decorating, healthier food presentation, presentation contests, seed art, showmanship or fine arts.

Registration is open to youth in the following counties: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, and Orangeburg.

Youth must register as 4-H members for the 2020-2021 club year to be eligible for awards. Registration opens on Oct. 30 and entries must be submitted by Nov. 7.

By enrolling in a 4-H project, youth are given the opportunity to explore a specific area of interest. Through local 4-H volunteer leaders and county Extension staff, youth are provided with the resources and support to develop skills and gain knowledge related to that topic. All projects provide opportunities to develop record keeping, community service, leadership and presentation skills.

For more information or to register, please contact local Clemson Extension 4-H Youth Development Agent Dawn Stuckey at dstucke@clemson.edu.
