The Colleton Soil & Water Conservation District is sponsoring its annual Poster and Essay Contest for students in public, private, and home schools in Colleton County.

The topic for this year’s contest is “Healthy Forests = Healthy Communities.” Trees and forests are critical in providing clean air and water, healthy soil, abundant wildlife habitat and valuable resources. As people benefit from trees, they must also remember it is their responsibility to protect and conserve this important renewable natural resource for future generations to enjoy.

The poster contest is for students in Special Education and Grades K-5. The poster contest is a class project with winners at each grade level receiving a cash award for their class.

The essay contest is for students in grades 6-8 and is an individual project with winners at each grade level receiving first place, second place, and third place awards. Winners will be invited to district’s annual banquet in April to receive their award.

All contest entries must be turned in to the Colleton Conservation District Office at 531 Robertson Blvd., Suite B, Walterboro, on or before January 6, 2021 by 4 p.m.

For information or copy of contest guidelines, e-mail sharon.hrvol@sc.nacdnet.net or call at 843-549-1821, ext. 101.
