If you’ve been entering—excuse us, applying for—all of the recent “dream job” travel contests lately but haven’t had any luck, we’re back with another one for you. This time, the “position” is “chief of discovery” and involves a photo contest, a van from 1978 and whiskey. Here’s what you need to know.
The photo contest
Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock and Rye is partnering with Monster Children to host the travel category of its 10th annual photo competition. Though unlike many of these contests, this one isn’t solely a game of chance: the photos submitted will be evaluated based on their originality, technical skill, subject, creativity, appropriateness for the entered category and relevance to Monster Children’s aesthetic.
What you’d win
Here’s where the whiskey part comes in. The winner of the Monster Children photo competition will win $5,000 AUD. From there, a U.S.-based photographer shortlisted in the travel entry category will be selected as the“Chief of Discovery” for Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock and Rye. The position involves flying to California (they pay for it) and meeting with the brand’s marketing team to plan their trip: a two-week tour of destinations in California, Arizona and New Mexico, Travel + Leisure reports.
The winner will be given the keys to the brand’s “Whiskey Van”—a 1978 Chevy G20 with a customized interior including a walnut bar, leather bench seating, orange tufted paneling and a sound system—and will document their travels via social media. The position comes with a stipend for gas, food, lodging and activities, and the winner can bring a friend, partner or pet of their choice.
How to enter
To apply, you must be over the age of 21 with a valid driver’s license, have an appreciation for Slow & Low whiskey, be interested in travel and have some understanding of social media.
