FRESNO, Calif. -- A child has been killed after a car was hit by an Amtrak train in central Fresno.

The crash happened at Shields and Maroa at 5:30 pm.

Police say four people were inside the minivan, including the child's mother.

Investigators say it appears that the family was waiting in line to enter Christmas Tree Lane when the minivan got stuck on the tracks.

First responders arrived and provided aid, but the child died.

Three family members are at the hospital. They do not have any life-threatening injuries.

The Amtrak train had passengers inside, but none of them were injured.

Authorities are not releasing the age, gender or name of the child.

Several other people who were also waiting in line stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Investigators are trying to determine how the minivan became stuck on the tracks.
