The Buffalo Sabres signed Owen Power, their top draft pick from the 2021 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract Thursday. The move signals the end of the defenseman's time at the University of Michigan.
Power, 19, scored six goals and 48 points through two seasons with the Wolverines. The defenseman also suited up for Canada during last December's world juniors in Alberta, where he became the first Canadian defenseman to score a hat trick in a world junior game. The teenager also represented Canada's senior men's national team at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing in February.
Earlier today, Power's teammate, Kent Johnson, joined the Columbus Blue Jackets on a three-year entry-level contract. Both players were eliminated, along with the rest of their Wolverine teammates, from the 2022 NCAA men's ice hockey championship at the hands of the University of Denver on Thursday night.
