The Swedish authorities have announced that travellers from third countries are no longer subject to entry rules when reaching Sweden as the latter has decided to lift all of its restrictions.
According to a press release that has been issued by the Ministry of Justice of Sweden, travellers from non-European Union/European Economic Area countries can now enter Sweden even if they do not hold a valid vaccination, recovery, or test certificate, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“As of April 1, 2022, people travelling to Sweden from countries outside the EU/EEA are no longer required to present a negative COVID-19 test, a vaccination certificate, or any other type of certificate,” the statement of the Swedish Ministry of Justice reads.
This means that everyone, regardless of their vaccination or recovery status, can now enter Sweden for all kinds of purposes without being required to follow additional entry rules.
Sweden introduced a temporary entry ban for travellers from non-EU/EEA countries back in March 2020. However, after taking into account the current situation and concluding that the virus no longer causes serious health implications, the Swedish authorities decided to follow the example of some other EU countries and lift their measures.
“The Government has decided not to extend the entry ban from third countries. This will make it much easier for everyone who has been prevented from coming to Sweden in recent years due to the pandemic,” Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson said, commenting on the abolishment of entry rules for third-country travellers.
Sweden has already lifted all of its entry rules for EU/EEA travellers too. Travellers from the EU/EEA have been able to enter Sweden restriction-free since February 9. For almost two months now, they have been exempt from all the entry rules.
Apart from Sweden, several other countries have also abolished all of their COVID-19 restrictions. Latvia is the most recent country to announce that all travellers are now permitted restriction-free entry even if they have not been vaccinated or recovered from the virus and if they do not hold a negative COVID-19 test result taken recently.
Denmark, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania and Slovenia have also removed their entry rules. All travellers, including those from third countries, can now travel to these EU/EEA countries even if they do not hold valid COVID-19 proof. Other countries are expected to lift their entry rules too.
