MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The criminal trend of smash-and-grab break-ins in Memphis continues.
Thieves broke into the GameStop at 1680 Union Avenue early Thursday, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
The break-in was called at 2:30 a.m. Dec. 28, police said.
Officers found broken glass in front of the store and a metal gate had been smashed open, police said.
Merchandise was found scattered on the store's floor, and tire marks from an unknown car were seen, police said, which matched a car that crashed the store.
Officers searched the area for suspects, and dispatch indicated that the responsible car was traveling eastbound on Jackson Avenue.
Store management told police that a gaming device with a $500 value was stolen.
Store surveillance video could not be accessed, police said.
The break-in marks the second time that the video game store was targeted.
On Feb. 5, five thieves broke into it, police said, by plowing a car into the entry doors.
Store video surveillance captured images of the bandits.

GameStop businesses have been a popular target for criminals the past 12 months, at least.

On Dec. 6, two GameStop stores, one in Cordova and the other in Bartlett, were broken into after midnight.
As of Dec. 7, seven burglaries and six thefts had been reported at GameStop locations in Memphis during 2023, MPD said.
