This evening, the Bruins announced that they’ve signed forward Matt Filipe to a two-year, entry-level contract.
Filipe recently finished his senior season at Northeastern University, where he served as an alternate captain.
The 22-year-old is a Lynnfield, Massachusetts native who played his high school hockey at Malden Catholic.
In his four seasons of college hockey, Filipe skated in 136 games for the Huskies. Per EliteProspects, he recorded 31 goals and 44 assists during that span.
Filipe played the most productive hockey of his college career, recording 22 points in 30 games. His previous high was 21 as a freshman, but those 21 were recorded in 8 more games.
Interestingly, Filipe was drafted by the Hurricanes in the third round in 2016, but he never ended up signing.
RIVALRY!!! FUEL TO THE PLAYOFF FIRE!!!
Filipe is 6' 2", 198 pounds.
Presumably, the contract is a two-way deal, with Filipe likely to start the season in the AHL or ECHL.
Welcome aboard to another Bay Stater!
