This weekend’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS round at Road America will feature a series-low six-car grid, with several GT3 entries not materializing for the fourth event of the SRO America season.

Rounds 7 and 8 of the season will see the absence of TR3 Racing’s Ferrari 488 GT3, which up until now, had contested every race although with different driver linueps.

While Winward Racing will return to competition with its Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Russel Ward and Indy Dontje, who makes his series debut, Racers Edge Motorsports will again only field a single Acura NSX GT3 Evo.

The team’s No. 80 Acura, due to be driven for the full season by defending Pro-Am class champions Kyle Marcelli and Martin Barkey, missed the last round at Sonoma due to travel-related issues for the pair of Canadian drivers.

Sportscar365 understands that an effort was made to find alternative drivers for the car for Road America.

DXDT Racing’s George Kurtz and Colin Braun hold a one-point lead over the Squadra Corse pairing of Rodrigo Baptista and Martin Fuentes entering the weekend.

Several entries have gone through category reclassifications, with the No. 20 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Fred Poordad and Max Root now in Pro-Am and the Winward entry moving to Silver due to Dontje’s driver rating.

It will result in the first direct class competitor the No. 93 Acura of Trent Hindman and Shelby Blackstock will face all year.

Nolasport Set for GT Sports Club Debut

Pirelli GT4 America entrant Nolasport is set to expand into GTSC America with a Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport entered for Jason Hall.

It is one of four cars entered in the series, which will again run alongside GTWC America competitors in the first 40 minutes of each 90-minute GTWC America race.

Unlike Sonoma which featured a GT3-spec Audi R8 LMS, the series will have all-Porsche GT2 machinery this weekend.

Track action kicks off on Thursday with a pair of test sessions.
