| Cobra fights intense battle with gang of meerkats. Viral video - India Today Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:47 PM PDT  A video of an intense battle between a gang of meerkats and a cobra has surfaced on social media and will intrigue you. A meerkat is a small mongoose found in southern Africa. The 59-second clip was shared on Twitter by Susanta Nanda of the Indian Forest Services and has collected almost 7,000 views so far. Shot in an area that appears to be a desert, the meerkats approached the cobra as it hissed at the gang. One of the meerkats also fought back as the cobra made every attempt to bite the meerkats. The battle continued for a while but it seems that the cobra ultimately conceded defeat as it slithered away from the spot. "Meerkat gang vs cobra. Dass die massiven Einschränkungen nun gerade im Jubiläumsjahr des traditionsreichen Festivals anstehen, müsse als "künstlerische Herausforderung" betrachtet werden, so sieht es Hinterhäuser. Festspielgründer Max Reinhardt sei vor 100 Jahren davon überzeugt gewesen, die Kunst müsse "nicht als Dekoration, sondern als Lebensmittel und Lebenssinn" verstanden werden. Dass die Festspiele trotz der Corona-Pandemie überhaupt stattfinden können, lasse diesen Gründungsgedanken aktueller denn je erscheinen. Salzburger Festspiele zeigen zwei Opern statt zehnNur zwei statt wie geplant zehn Opern stehen auf dem Programm, "Elektra" von Strauss und "Così fan tutte" von Mozart. Die Theatersparte präsentiert neben dem "Jedermann" die mit Spannung erwartete Uraufführung "Zdenek Adamek" von Literaturnobelpreisträger Peter Handke; und der Pianist Igor Levit wird einen Zyklus aller Beethoven-Klaviersonaten spielen. Als Regisseur Reinhardt und Dichter Hugo von Hofmannsthal während des Ersten Weltkriegs die Idee hatten, Festspiele in Salzburg zu gründen, folgten sie einer Vision: Sie wollten helfen, die Völker zu versöhnen und zur Einigung Europas beizutragen. Markenzeichen der Festspiele ist Hofmannsthals "Jedermann", inszeniert von Max Reinhardt in Salzburg, zum ersten Mal am 22. August 1920 aufgeführt. "Das Spiel vom Sterben des reichen Mannes" erzählt, wie der sehr wohlhabende, aber hartherzige Jedermann nach seinem Tod dank seiner Reue doch noch erlöst wird. Stadt Salzburg nutzt Treppen vor Salzburger DomHofmannsthal und Reinhardt wollten dem Theater "das Festliche und Feiertägliche" wiedergeben. "Jedermann" bei Salzburger FestspielenFür ein Konzert am Vormittag sollte die Dame ein Kleid "ohne viel Glitzer" tragen, am Abend heißt es dagegen: "Es darf glitzern". Allen Besuchern, denen diese Kleidervorschriften zu kompliziert sind, sei der "Jedermann" anempfohlen. "Damen und Herren: Tracht", heißt es dazu vergleichsweise übersichtlich in den einschlägigen Wegweisern durch den Dresscode-Dschungel. "Jedermann" ist bis heute das große Event der Salzburger Festspiele geblieben - "unsere Milchkuh", sagte einst Gerard Mortier, Festspiel-Direktor zwischen 1991 und 2001. Die Aufführung hilft, risikoreiche neue Projekte zu finanzieren. Nach dem sogenannten Anschluss Österreichs an Hitler-Deutschland 1938 wurde der "Jedermann" abgesetzt, denn Regisseur Reinhardt - inzwischen in die USA emigriert - war Jude. Erst 1946 wurde das Stück wieder gespielt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg war Herbert von Karajan der unangefochtene Übervater der Festspiele. Er sorgte für unvergessliche Aufführungen von Opern Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts, von Richard Strauss und Giuseppe Verdi. Nach Karajan gab es mit dem belgischen Theatermanager Gerard Mortier im Jahre 1991 einen zunächst umstrittenen Neuanfang. Er verjüngte das Publikum und stellte den allbekannten Repertoire-Hits auch weniger bekannte Werke und Modernes gegenüber. Seit 2016 hat Markus Hinterhäuser die Zügel in der Hand und versucht, einen Mittelweg zu gehen zwischen gesellschaftlichem Event, ökonomischem Erfolg und künstlerisch herausragenden Produktionen. Wirtschaftlich geht sein Konzept offensichtlich auf: In den vergangenen Jahre eilten die Festspiele ökonomisch von Rekord zu Rekord. 2019 wurden mehr als 270.000 Karten verkauft, bei einer Platzauslastung von 97 Prozent. | WhatsApp adds search feature to help users debunk viral messages - The Verge Posted: 04 Aug 2020 06:47 PM PDT  WhatsApp is piloting a new feature that lets users quickly search the contents of viral messages to fact-check misinformation, the company has announced. Starting today, a magnifying glass icon will start appearing next to messages that have been forwarded through a chain of five or more people. Tapping it searches for the message's contents online, with the idea being that this should reveal any common conspiracy theories or misinformation the message contains. In a screenshot of the feature released by WhatsApp, it uses the example of a viral message which claims that "drinking fresh boiled garlic water will cure COVID-19." A web search brings up three fact-checking websites, which flag this claim as false. Back in March, CNN reported that medical misinformation was becoming a problem on the Facebook-owned messaging service. Facebook's attempts to police misinformation on WhatsApp are complicated by the service's end-to-end encryption, which prevent it from being able to see the contents of any messages sent on the service. With the new search feature WhatsApp is giving users the ability to fact-check information themselves, rather than the company proactively scanning messages for common conspiracy theories. WhatsApp says that any message that a user chooses to search are sent directly to their browser "without WhatsApp ever seeing the message itself." This is just the latest measure that WhatsApp has introduced to try and stop the spread of misinformation on its platform. Back in April it placed new limits on the forwarding of viral messages. After the changes, viral messages can only be forwarded on to one more person, down from the previous limit of five. WhatsApp later said the measure had cut the spread of viral messages by 70 percent, though it's impossible to know how many of these messages contained misinformation. Bryan's long-range free kick caught Brentford by surprise in the 105th minute before he scored again in the 117th of a 2-1 triumph, which sends the Cottagers back to the top flight and denied Brentford what would have been its first place in the top division in 73 years. For the opener Bryan lined up for a free kick some 40 yards out, appearing to survey his options for what looked to be a ball he'd serve to a teammate. Instead, he put his chance on frame, and Brentford goalkeeper David Raya was slow to react, watching the ball bounce into the back of the net to break a deadlock. That's a costly mistake to make: according to the Associated Press, Brentford stood to make up to $345 million over five years if it were promoted and survived a season in the Premier League. Regardless, Brentford stood to make at least $208 million due to shared broadcast revenues and subsequent parachute payments. | Indonesia allows oil and gas investors to pick their own contract options - The Journal Pioneer Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:08 AM PDT  JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia announced over the weekend that it had made revisions to a 2017 law that will give oil and gas investors more flexibility when choosing their contract options for exploration. The revisions, which came into effect on July 16, allow contractors to choose between different sharing contracts including the "cost recovery" and "gross split" systems in an effort to boost investment. Indonesia adopted the "gross split" scheme for oil and gas production deals in 2017, in which contractors shoulder the cost of exploration and production in exchange for retaining a bigger portion of the oil and gas they recover. That represented a shift from the "cost recovery" scheme used previously, in which the government reimbursed the exploration and production costs borne by the contractors in exchange for a higher share of companies' oil and gas earnings. "The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, is officially allowing flexibility for investors to choose the form of oil and gas cooperation contracts," the energy ministry said in a statement on Saturday. "This change is to provide legal certainty and increase investment in upstream oil and gas business activities," it added, referring to the exploration and drilling of new wells. Under the revised law, expiring contracts no longer have to be converted to gross split production sharing contracts from cost recovery contracts. In the case where state oil company PT Pertamina or its affiliates are appointed, the ministry will determine the cooperation contract.
