Another storm poised to enter Gulf of Mexico after Gamma - Houston Chronicle

Another weather disturbance is poised to enter the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm with the entire Louisiana coast in its forecasted cone.

The Texas border is on the edge of where National Weather Service meteorologists believe “Potential Tropical Cyclone 26” could go. Should it develop further, it would approach the northern Gulf Coast later this week as a hurricane.

Although “no direct threat to SE Texas” is predicted as of Sunday, forecasters said, it could present a risk of storm surge, wind and rainfall from Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Gamma — offshore on Sunday near southeastern Mexico — is expected to drift slowly southwest and could bring showers and thunderstorms to the Upper Texas coast Wednesday and Thursday.

The northwestern Gulf may see elevated tide levels, minor beach flooding and strong rip currents later in the work week. From Wednesday to Friday, elevated tide levels could be from 5 to 9 feet.
