Charlie Brewer’s storied Baylor career has come to an end.

The senior quarterback announced via Twitter on Sunday that he will not return to Baylor and will enter the portal as a graduate transfer.

“It is with much thought and prayer that I am announcing I will be entering the transfer portal and moving on a graduate transfer,” the statement read. “A heartfelt thank you to my teammates, coach [Matt] Rhule and coach [Dave] Aranda for an amazing ride the past four years here at Baylor. I will take with me a lifetime of great memories and a degree from Baylor University.”

Brewer leaves behind a legacy as one of the best quarterbacks in the program’s history. The four-year starter amassed 9,700 passing yards and 65 touchdowns, only second to all-time leader Robert Griffin III.

Brewer came into the program at the start of former head coach Matt Rhule’s tenure and led the Bears from a 1-11 finish in 2017 to an 11-3 turnaround and appearances in the Big 12 championship game and the Sugar Bowl in 2019.

The announcement comes one day after the Bears ended the first season of the Dave Aranda era with a 42-3 loss to Oklahoma State. Brewer threw for 1,958 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2020, as well as eight interceptions, as Baylor went on to finish the season with a 2-7 record.
