Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with Manchester United's response to crashing out of the Champions League as his players fought for a point against Manchester City in a forgettable derby draw. After dreadful defending played a key role in a costly defeat at RB Leipzig that saw them slip into the Europa League, United's players showed the kind of focus and organisation that had been lacking in Germany. They looked solid but lacked a prolonged attacking threat in a drab 0-0 draw against City at an empty Old Trafford, where the video assistant referee overturned a second-half penalty as Marcus Rashford had strayed offside before being fouled by Kyle Walker.  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed his Manchester United side in their 0-0 draw with Man City  The city rivals could not be separated in their goalless draw at Old Trafford on Saturday night Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne had chances for City but they too lacked a cutting edge in a match that Solskjaer took positives from. 'Well, of course it was a big blow during the week so the way they've recovered, the way they've worked, how ready they were for the game, I was very, very pleased with it,' the United boss said. 'Exceptional attitude. 'Of course we had some moments where we had to defend, especially second half, there were times they really pegged us back. 'But we stuck at it, defended really well, so attitude-wise, mental recovery they've done brilliant.  The draw with Pep Guardiola's City comes days after United exited the Champions League 'Of course I'm happy with the clean sheet, but in games like this when you have some margins to score the goal, you win. If you have it against you, you lose, so a fair result for me was the draw.' United won three of their four meetings with City last season, but Solskjaer said this was 'the best performance we have had' against Pep Guardiola's side during his time in charge. 'Possession on the ball, control (was better),' the Norwegian said comparing Saturday to previous meetings. 'Of course I think last year at the Etihad we could have blown them away from the 10th to the 25th minute. We could have scored four goals. 'Some unbelievable counter-attacking football, but we had about 30 per cent possession and that second half we were hanging on.  Solskjaer praised United's ability to control the ball against their arch-rivals at Old Trafford 'You felt there was less moments to hang on today and we had more of the ball. 'Maybe that's because they had more respect for us as well. I don't know, but I'd like to think we've developed that side of it. 'And then today we just didn't have enough to get those counter-attacks that we have.' Saturday marked City's sixth successive match in all competitions without conceding, but their lack of attacking impetus against porous United raised eyebrows in a derby that failed to catch light. When former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler was announced as the head coach of East Bengal, the expectations of football fans in the country rocketed. It was a piece of welcome news for the supporters of East Bengal following the late announcement that the club would be taking part in the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL). However, after four matches this season, things haven't gone according to plan for Fowler and co. East Bengal's pre-season training was delayed by a few weeks due to the time taken to complete paperwork at the club as they headed into their first ISL season. But after four rounds of the 2020-21 season, the biggest concern for the former Brisbane Roar coach will be the issues in front of goal. Fowler has two out-and-out Indian strikers he can use in the squad but neither of them has been able to make a mark so far. He stuck with Balwant Singh for the first three matches before giving Jeje Lalpekhlua a start for the fourth. Jeje started his first match in over one-and-a-half and he looked out of touch against the strong defence of Jamshedpur. Aaron-Amadi Holloway is part of the squad but hasn't been in the matchday squad so far with Fowler claiming that he is yet to get in shape.
 It is problematic that East Bengal are winless after four games. And they have not scored a single goal in those games, making their start look worse. By going four games without scoring a goal, Fowler's team has matched the record of Mumbai City FC from the inaugural edition of ISL in 2014. The Islanders had gone the same number of games without scoring from November 9-28th. There are only two teams who have done worse in this regard. Earlier this year, NorthEast United fired blanks in five matches, from January 8 to February 10, 2020. During what was a wretched 2018-19 season in which they finished at the bottom of the table, Chennaiyin registered multiple draws and defeats without scoring goals. They ended the season with three back-to-back goalless games and continued the run at the start of the following season to extend it seven matches without a goal. East Bengal have now matched the second-worst goalless run by a team in a single season and Robbie Fowler will be hoping that his team can get off the mark in their next match to avoid registering the joint-worst goalless run in ISL over the course of a single season. "They had to announce the three different goal scorers when there was a media timeout." Six different players accounted for the six goals, including seniors Brendan Harris and Ethan Somoza, juniors Alex Ierullo and Nick Cardelli, sophomore Elias Rosén and freshman Lukas Sillinger, who scored his first collegiate goal. Ierullo netted the eventual game-winner, a goal scored in the midst of the second-period offensive flurry. He, along with Aaron Miller and Owen Sillinger, finished with two points on the night. Five goals in one period is the most by BSU since scoring five in the first period of an 8-3 win over Merrimack on Nov. 9, 2018.  "Being on their (defensemen), and creating turnovers resulted in those goals," Cardelli said. "It was good to get a three- or four-goal lead there in the second and go from there." The offensive outburst was a far cry from the team's season opener, a 5-0 loss to Minnesota State. Following a 20-day layoff since that game, Bemidji State was as energized as ever to be back in action. "It still seems like it was six months ago that we played Mankato, and it seems about two years ago when we played Lake Superior State (in the WCHA playoffs last March)," Serratore said. "The guys are trying to figure a lot of different things out right now. … They're trying to figure out their line combinations. … I think from the guys' standpoint, it was nice to get that little cushion right there." Sinclair was pulled from net for Blake Pietala after the goal. Carson Bantle ended the Beavers' goal-scoring streak by tallying his first collegiate goal 15 seconds after the fifth BSU goal, making it 5-2. When all was said and done, four goals had been scored in 1 minute, 9 seconds. Cardelli capped the scoring effort for Bemidji State later in the second, converting on a 2-on-1 chance that brought the lead to 6-1. The Red Devils take on Manchester City in a blockbuster derby at Old Trafford on Saturday - only days after they were eliminated from the Champions League by RB Leipzig with a disappointing 3-2 defeat. Despite an inconsistent start to their domestic campaign - including a 6-1 loss to Tottenham and home defeats against Arsenal and Crystal Palace - United can go within two points of leaders Spurs if they manage to get the victory against their city rivals. United have won their last four Premier League games, with three of those victories coming on the road after going behind, and Solskjaer feels his team are showing signs they could be developing into title contenders. "At Manchester United, you should always aim to win trophies," Solskjaer said. "Of course, with the last three seasons, as they have been, there's been two teams far ahead of the rest of the pack. "I got belief during the season, or since the turn of the new year, that this team is improving and that we can put up a challenge.
