Three men apparently acting as bounty hunters are accused of forcefully entering a Cypress home and engaging in a shootout with the homeowner, who they mistakenly believed to be a wanted fugitive, officials said.
On Saturday, Angel Galvan, Farukur Siddique and Frederick Randle pulled up outside a home on the 16500 block of Cypress Pelican Drive in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The men wore black tactical gear and were looking for a man listed on a fugitive bail warrant.
The homeowner was leaving his residence when the men pulled up and ordered him to the ground. The resident, fearing for his life, ran back inside, he told authorities. The bounty hunters followed him inside to a bedroom where the resident retrieved a handgun, the Sheriff's Office said. The agents repeatedly said they were police and ordered the resident's wife to the ground at gunpoint, officials said.
The homeowner fired at the bounty hunters, who returned gunfire. Galvan was struck in the upper arm, and he and his accomplices fled from the home.
The Sheriff's Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found the three assailants detaining the resident, who had surrendered himself in the belief that the men were police, in handcuffs on the ground. Officials disarmed the bounty hunters, sent Galvan to the hospital for the non-life-threatening gunshot wound and interviewed the remaining two men.
Six other family members inside the Cypress home were uninjured.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office charged Galvan, Siddique and Randle with burglary with the intent to commit another felony, according to court records.
The men were released on bond from custody under the condition that they have no weapons and refrain from any contact with the homeowner.
