Saints GM Mickey Loomis says team won’t enter rebuild despite Drew Brees’ potential retirement, massive cap c - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Saints are heading into what looks like a very tricky offseason following their divisional round loss to the Buccaneers in the playoffs.

Drew Brees is not sure whether he will play in 2021 or if he’ll retire, as reported by Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer earlier this month.

Making matters worse for the Saints is that they are likely to be more than $100 million over the salary cap, which could also go down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In spite of those two major concerns, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told reporters including ESPN’s Mike Triplett on Wednesday that the team won’t go into a rebuild this offseason.

New Orleans has quite a few big-name free agents this offseason including defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, safety Marcus Williams and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.

Steelers reportedly interviewing former Browns offensive line coach James Campen

Pittsburgh’s search for a new offensive line coach looks like it will include a name familiar to Browns fans.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Wednesday morning that the Steelers are interviewing former Browns offensive line coach James Campen for that open spot on Mike Tomlin’s staff.

Campen had been the offensive line coach of the Packers from 2007 to 2018 before taking the same job for the Browns in 2019 and the Chargers in 2020.

The Steelers let offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett leave following the 2020 season along with offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner.

Seahawks reportedly hire Rams passing game coordinator Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator

The Rams have lost quite a few of their top assistant coaches and front office personnel this offseason. One of the latest to leave the organization looks like he will be heading to a division rival.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported late Tuesday night that the Seahawks are hiring Rams passing game coordinator Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator.

Waldron has been part of Sean McVay’s staff for the last four years, including being his passing game coordinator from 2018 to 2020. He will replace Brian Schottenheimer, who was fired after three seasons as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator.

Among the personnel the Rams have lost is defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who is now the Chargers head coach, Brad Holmes, who is the new GM of the Lions, and assistant GM Ray Agnew, who will follow Holmes to Detroit.

Scotty Miller claims he’s faster than Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill is no doubt among the fastest players in football if not the fastest. But someone who might have something to say about it, even in jest, will be a player Hill sees on the opposite sideline for Super Bowl LV.

Buccaneers receiver Scotty Miller went on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday morning and said that he could beat Hill in a race.

Hill was aware of Miller’s comments and offered this response on Twitter.

Miller, who is in his second year in the league out of Bowling Green, had 33 receptions in the regular season for 501 yards and three touchdowns. His biggest contribution may have been when he blew past Packers cornerback Kevin King for a 39-yard touchdown with one second to go in the first half of Sunday’s 31-26 NFC Championship Game win.
