A day after Cam Newton was instructed to stay away from the Patriots' facility for five days due to the team's "misunderstanding" of the league's protocol on COVID-19 tests conducted outside of team facilities, Bills receivers Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis will now be away from the Bills' facility for at least the next five days after being placed on Buffalo's COVID-19 list, as reported by Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
Beasley and Davis were close contacts of a member of the team's training staff who tested positive for COVID-19. Both players will undergo a five day re-entry process that is part of the NFL's health and safety guidelines. Vaccinated players do not have to be out for five days if they are in close contact with someone who tested position for the virus. However, a vaccinated player/staff member can still test positive for COVID-19, which can lead to outbreak or spread in the facility that could compromise a game.
After several games were rescheduled due to COVID-19 outbreaks in 2020, the NFL said in a statement last month that teams will forfeit games this season if a contest cannot be rescheduled due to an outbreak that stems from unvaccinated players. The offending team will also be held responsible for financial losses as a result of the canceled game.
"If a club cannot play due to a Covid spike in vaccinated individuals, we will attempt to minimize the competitive and economic burden on both participating teams," the NFL's front office said in the memo. "... Every club is obligated under the Constitution and Bylaws to have its team ready to play at the scheduled time and place. A failure to do so is deemed conduct detrimental. There is no right to postpone a game."
A 10-year veteran, Beasley has been vocal about his displeasure with the league's updated COVID-19 protocols. The league's policy includes more testing, masks and social distancing for unvaccinated players.

"I'm not anti- or pro-vax -- I'm pro-choice," Beasley said while reading from a written statement at the start of training camp, via ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques. "With that being said, the issue at hand is information being withheld from players in order for a player to be swayed in a direction he may not be comfortable with.
"When dealing with a player's health and safety, there should be complete transparency regarding information that is vital in the decision-making process. Without having all the proper information, a player can feel misguided and unsure about a very personal choice. It makes a player feel unprotected and gives concerns about future topics regarding health and our ability to make educated decisions."
Rod Woodson, a Hall of Fame defensive back who starred on defenses in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Baltimore and Oakland, recently spoke with CBS Sports about his role in the NFL Alumni's campaign to tackle COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy.
"In our modern time, nobody has seen a pandemic," Woodson said. "The people who have been affected, those are the people who need to reach out and say get educated, speak to your local doctors and healthcare providers, educate yourself and make a wise decision.
"Most of the people affected in some capacity have gotten vaccinated. Most of the individuals who have not gotten it, nobody in their family has been affected. I think that's kind of the norm across the U.S. … We've go to hope that [the message] does reach an audience and that they do educate themselves and continue to educate themselves on this subject matter."
