Travellers from the United States will still be permitted to visit European Union countries restriction-free, as the latter will not change its safe travel list this week as it was foreseen.
Even though last week it was discussed that the United States would be removed from the EU safe list after a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections, such a thing will not happen, an EU official told Reuters; therefore, Americans will still be allowed to enter the EU countries even for non-essential purposes such as tourism, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports
At present, the following countries are included in the EU safe countries list, based on the EU Council’s recommendations presented on July 15: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Montenegro, New Zealand, Qatar, Republic of Moldova, Republic of North Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine, United States of America China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity.
According to the EU official, the list will be reviewed again in two weeks or even earlier if the Coronavirus situation changes.
Even though European countries started to welcome travellers from the United States, the latter continues to ban entry for European citizens for over 16 months now due to the Coronavirus pandemic situation.
Such a situation has often been criticized by European countries’ governments and organizations, who called for reciprocity.
Earlier this month, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on the United States authorities to lift the travel ban imposed on European Union citizens, emphasizing that such a situation must not drag on for weeks.
Previously, US President Joe Biden indicated that the ban could soon be lifted during a meeting with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House.
Besides, the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VCMA) also criticized the US entry ban through a letter addressed to the US Embassy in Berlin while calling on the country’s administration to abolish the ban and easily permit citizens of Germany to travel across the Atlantic again.
However, on August 6, sources within the White House told Reuters that the US administration intends to launch a plan in order to permit vaccinated travellers against the Coronavirus to enter the US again.
Such a decision would permit more travellers to enter the US country from other territories such as the EU, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.
